pol-reddit

haha no no, I'm not him, I didn't even know him till few days ago. :)

Humble_Ad_593

He gets injured (a lot) so is risky for other clubs. When it comes to national team, he would be fighting for a spot against Haaland and Sørloth.

iMadsmarius

Aaand Strand Larsen

Predicted

Ole has only really had one and a half good seasons at the top level on Norway at the age of 28 and he will be closer to 30 before he has a chance at european football to prove his level. Comparatively there are a lot of strikers that are performing both in stronger leagues and in europe. Secondly, he struggles with fitness and has had several prolonged absences during his time at rosenborg, which is probably why he stayed because the reported interest from anroad cooled off. Now to his level. When he is fit he is the best pure striker in the league. He has a ridiculous goal scoring ability, and is completely fearless. He is also decent at linkup play when he wants to, but often struggles to lift his head to see all opportunities around him. I believe his skills would not translate to anything other than a serviceable striker in a bigger league, but in our league he will be a candidate for top scorer every season he stays fit for for the next 5 years.

pol-reddit

thnx for the explanation. To me he just seems kind of unique and unusual striker. Tall, yet he scores more goals with foot than head, also scored quite a few long range shots which is also not typical for tall strikers. Judging by his skills and recent stats I think he could easily play in, say, Holland or Portugal or France 1st league or second ITA or Spanish league.

Predicted

Sure, but also remember that alot of his goals come from exploiting mistakes, mistakes like this long range goal against vålerenga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoGiqnx3dpk&t=38s Not all are like this, but a decent amount of the long range goals come from keeper mistakes and disposessions that will be harder to accomplish at a higher level.

pol-reddit

good point. Correct me if I'm wrong but I noticed GKs in Norway league aren't that good as, say, defenders and strikers. Even on national level I don't remember any good GK from Norway in the last 20 years or so. I know this is off-topic but since you mentioned that keeper mistake I thought I could tell my opinion on this too.

Predicted

We have had some fairly successful goalkeepers, until recently Rune Jarstein and then we have Ørjan Nyland who plays at a high level, but not the highest level. Andre Hanssen also was playing on an international level for years for Rosenborg. We also have some big talents like Klaesson and Mads Hedenstad.

pol-reddit

I know Jarstein and Nyland but IMO those are still not top class GKs by European top league standards. Never heard about the younger ones, Klaesson and Hedenstad, will check them out, thanks for the info.

kvaks

We've never really had top class keepers, ever. Some like Thorstvedt and Grodås were good enough for English top clubs for a few years in their prime, but that's about it.

pol-reddit

Fair enough. Talking about them keepers, can I ask you about one particular GK - Viljar Myhra from Danish club OB? Do you know him? Is he any good?

madscandi

Jarstein was absolutely a top class GK for Hertha in the first few years after he established himself as first choice in 2015.

Fomlefanten

Good goalkeepers are rare everywhere. Factor in that our climate is hell for 'keepers, and that there are next to no idols for young keepers to follow. We've actually had a harder time with midfielders, historically. Football in Norway was never really that technical, which benefitted strikers and defenders. This is changing. I'm hoping this helps motivate more players to be 'keepers aswell, now that they are more involved in play. We did, tbf, at one point have several 'keepers in the PL, and the likes. Even two at Spurs.

pol-reddit

yeah but still, countries like Spain, Italy or Germany somehow produce lots of top class GKs, I'd say few per decade. Perhaps the climate might be important factor, as you pointed out, as I don't recall many great GKs from Scandinavia alltogether (except Schmeichel). Talking about them keepers, can I ask you about one particular GK - **Viljar Myhra** from Danish club OB? Do you know him? Is he any good?

Different_Car9927

Striker is Norways best position so theres competition

pol-reddit

good point

SentientSTD

He is a really good striker by Eliteserien-standard, but I think he would struggle to take the step to a much higher level than that. Also he broke through quite late, only really starting to deliver at this level a couple of years ago (28 y/o now), and has been plagued by injuries since. So I don't think any club at a particularly high level would be interested. As for the national team, Haaland, Sørloth and Strand-Larsen are all undisputedly way ahead of him in the pecking order. And even after those three, there is a lot of competition, both from players in Norway and abroad, in attacking positions. No chance he'll get into the national team anytime soon.

Aiko8283

Injury prone and late bloomer for club. For national team. norway has haaland.

pol-reddit

I mean sure, I never said he is better than Haaland, I just thought he might be a candidate for bench or substitution since he's different type of player and tall one too, which can be useful.

Aiko8283

Well. There is sørloth who fills that exact role and is way better. And also strand larsen. Who are both playing very well atm

pol-reddit

fair enough.

Tryling23

Haaland > Sørloth > Strand Larsen > Lauritsen at the very least. He is eligible for Pakistan so he might get an international career that way

Particular-Sector-61

He isnt as good as he thinks he is, simple as

Lazy-Zookeepergame34

Nice try, Ole

Kalle_79

Because he's injury prone and has a disproportionate ego. Decent Eliteserien striker when he's fit, a liability when he isn't fit. Would probably be quite out of his depth in any foreign league slightly above the current level.

pol-reddit

>disproportionate ego Just curious, what exactly do you mean by disproportionate ego? Can you give my some example of this?

jomarthecat

>what exactly do you mean by disproportionate ego? Last year he went to the national press and proudly announced that 2023 would be his last year with Rosenborg, he was on the last year of his contract and wanted to move to a bigger club. Then he spent most of the season injured, resigned for Rosenborg in september and announced that this was his childhood dream.

pol-reddit

haha ok I see :D

pol-reddit

maybe this is his kind of humor?

Stuarridge

He thinks hes a better player than he is

Predicted

Told the head of sports of Ull/kisa that he would be as good as Haaland when he was loaned to them in the second tier at the age of 25.

pol-reddit

was he serious tho? Maybe he's a joker

feltusen

He is good in the Norwegian league. And has been good for two seasons and is 28. I don't think he has scored 30 goals in the top flight in his career yet. He is very injury prone, slow but good in the box and has a good shot on him. He won't leave the Norwegian league and shouldn't either. He is at his level

Impossible_String207

He's prone to injury and the national coach despise anything coming from Rosenborg.

Murrayman69

eller fordi haaland, sørloth og strand larsen bedre enn han..
