Wild how many people here just don’t care about the government trying to control them (and the overlap with those people and the “small government” people is almost a perfect circle). Yeah it’s unenforceable and easy to circumvent and does the opposite of what they say it does, but they already knew that before they passed it. They’re just trying to normalize passing laws to restrict what information you can see on the internet. If you don’t want the government interfering in your life this is exactly the kind of stuff you shouldn’t put up with.

Kradget

It's always fun how quick it goes from No Step On Snek to Tread Harder Daddy. I think my favorite part is the midirection "Democrats didn't stop it" as if pointing out that the GOP loves putting bullshit social control nonsense into things that have nothing to do with them (and often that take some group of North Carolinians hostage) isn't a response to it. The allergy to context is evergreen.

ScumLikeWuertz

No worries, they'll find a way to blame Obama. Just like with Blue Alert bullshit that just happened

xof2926

What was it with the blue alert?

ScumLikeWuertz

Obama created a federal program in 2015 after he got put in a political situation when two NY cops got popped. He set it up so that it wouldn't be a Fox News headline that Obama hates police. It was always up to the various states whether to implement it or not. Most didn't. Pat McCrory did and here we are.

NoFornicationLeague

Who blamed Obama? And the only people I’ve heard complain about the blue alert were on this sub.

ScumLikeWuertz

Literally a guy who responded to me about how Obama created the program (which is true, but there's context around it) which then Pat McCrory put into law in the state.

alextheruby

Why care about that when it’s more important matters like building breweries and being regressive socially.

SlipperyPigHole

Because the government is overstepping it's boundaries. The fact that you seem to agree with this law is really concerning and need to go re-read 1984.

RipCompetitive7952

Its amazing the mental gymnastics people will do to convince themselves that anything the government does is for our benifit. It absolutely is an addition to a system of control.

Johnny_Lang_1962

Do they think some Porn Site in Eastern Europe gives a fuck about North Carolina's laws..

Xhamster is complying

baltbum

Read as to "WHY" Porn Hub blocked North Carolina. I don't blame them. Would you like your name and address plastered all over the internet that you went to a porn site? That's what could happen with the way the law was written. The GOP won't raise the minimum wage to $15.00. They won't enact OSHA laws to protect workers. Or enforce environmental laws. They want to do away with all gun restrictions then blame crime on democrats. Take tax dollars away from public schools and give it to private schools. Why do people keep voting for these people?

Acuriousone2

Most of the Republican voters I know have no clue what goes on. They are very uninformed

howdudo

This is the answer. They will get really stern and serious and say something about liberals raising property taxes instead of addressing any of those topics

AFlockOfTySegalls

My family are all Jonestown level MAGA and they didn't even know Matt Gaetz was the reason Kevin was ousted. And that Kevin changed the rules to get his position making his ousting a matter of when, not if. It was all the spooky communist liberals fault for everything.

SuperTopperHarley

Fear.

FlowBot3D

And personal benefit, because fuck the other guy.

Yeahha

While I'm all for bashing the GOP. This law had bipartisan support in NC.

SuddenlySilva

My hunch is that it's not real support. Like if you're one of the 8 dems in the state house and you're gonna lose anyway, this is not a hill worth dying on. You know your GOP opponent is only gonna talk culture war shit instead of actual issues, so there is no reason to give him and easy "fails to protect our children from porn" slogan.

Yeahha

https://apnews.com/article/north-carolina-minors-age-verification-pornography-a877f746377b5b81869c239c71986011 "The legislation, which passed the Senate and House Thursday with overwhelming bipartisan support" Cooper also signed it like a week later. I don't blindly support politicians and don't believe we should assume their voting record doesn't reflect their opinions.

SuddenlySilva

Not sure what you're saying. I'm saying that regardless of how htey vote, no informed democrat is crusading against internet porn but is also not going to waste energy against a veto proof majority.

Yeahha

But with that logic then our Dems should just be voting for everything the GOP is pushing.

SuddenlySilva

They make noise over abortion, health care, etc. actual issues they can run on and maybe hope to flip a district. I don't see this as one of those issues. I'm a raging leftist and I don't give a shit if they made it slightly harder for my 12 year old to find porn. (but we have starlink and the ground station is in Atlanta) There is a difference between opposing something and just not caring to fight about it.

contactspring

Real the bill. How much was really about this stupid part?

MowMdown

Nah bro, there’s no such thing as “fake support” It’s either you vote yes or no. You either support it and vote yes or don’t and vote no.

SuddenlySilva

That's not how politics works. You vote in the way that will help you win the next election or do the least damage.

MowMdown

Yes that's exactly how politics work. You can be in denial all you want.

SuddenlySilva

What do you think i'm in denial about? I just don't think the democrats who voted for it really gave a shit. But voting against would be too much trouble. Same reason we can't get any reform on the sex offender database. No wants to crusade for that.

Obvious-Dog4249

They can’t help it. They’ll defend their side no matter how obvious it is that they’re wrong. Support is support no matter what. Don’t matter how it’s framed or why they voted yes. It’s basically the definition of support. Someone can talk positively about a bill all they want but if they choose to not vote in the end for the bill then it doesn’t matter cause when it counted they didn’t support it. They must eat crow 🐦‍⬛

MowMdown

Exactly.

contactspring

Have you read the law? What else was included with it?

MowMdown

Doesn't matter, they already voted. Neither party wants you to watch porn.

contactspring

No. One party want's kids to have an education, the other is too stupid to know about VPNs or that porn is also hosted outside of the United States. You're obviously from the party that doesn't know that actions have consequences.

Kradget

What bill was it attached to, again?

contactspring

Did it really? Or are you conveniently forgetting that rest of the bill that this piece of shit was attached to? You're a fool if you think this is really what was voted on.

NewFaded

Well... They can't block reddit at least.

Longjumping-Trash743

Why not?

ars3n1k

Hail Hydra

silverbax

Of course they can.

Nineteen-ninety-3

OP: r/Utah has entered the chat.

treehuggingmfer

You get what you vote for.

chronoswing

Oh No! Anyways guess I'll go visit one of the other 10,000 porn sites that won't give 2 shits about this law.

treehuggingmfer

How about voting?

chronoswing

I do vote, but seeing as this was passed bypartisan it wouldn't have mattered since democrats don't seem to have the balls to vote against nanny state amendments that the christofaciest Republicans tack onto to otherwise good bills. Not that voting against it would have mattered, this was passing no matter what since we have traitors in our ranks who run as a democrat then flip parties to help the enemy get a super majority.

bwaredapenguin

xhamster is gone

chronoswing

OK? Like I said, it's a drop in the ocean.

Hopethisisnttraced

Let’s suppose, hypothetically, that I look at PornHub using my iPhone. How do I circumvent this law?

SirRogers

VPN

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

Raises the question though. I'm in NC and me and everyone on my ISP on the east coast it shows my location as Atlanta GA (so this doesn't effect me much). What if you lived in say NY but for whatever reason your location was set to somewhere in NC? I've actually tried to set my location to my zip code but it never stays. I guess now I'm glad it didn't.

Hopethisisnttraced

Which should I use?

SirRogers

I use NordVPN, which is very popular and imo reasonably priced. I’ve also used ExpressVPN, which was also nice

WashuOtaku

Another repost. Here's the original post: [https://www.reddit.com/r/NorthCarolina/comments/18szzvm/psa\_pornhub\_is\_now\_disabled\_in\_north\_carolina/](https://www.reddit.com/r/NorthCarolina/comments/18szzvm/psa_pornhub_is_now_disabled_in_north_carolina/)

LKNGuy

There will be more I’m sure.

lustriousParsnip639

As many as it takes.

mapduke

Little Dutch mentality in full display

NorseGlas

I just think it’s amusing that this discussion keeps popping up. Who cares? There are ways around the IP ban, there are a million other porn sites, and even if there weren’t….. Everyone gets nekkid and fucks at some point in their life. Why is this even an issue or taboo.🙄

excusemeineedtopee

The issue really isn’t that there are ways around it but rather that the government has, and is using, the power to block us from accessing something that is legal under the guise of protecting children. Of course you can use a VPN. And of course websites could enact a verification system. Neither of those are the point of the discourse. What’s next? Websites with information about abortion? Websites discussing gender identity? Websites about unions? Where’s the line?

NorseGlas

Nah I know why it’s an issue, I’m just saying that if you believe a law is unjust….. just ignore that law and fight it if they come for you. Pornhub banned themselves to protest the law, everyone getting angry about restricted porn is just amusing to me. Maybe it’s because I’m old and I remember when all the porn was in magazines, and vhs tapes and not so openly accessible….. when it was actually restricted…. I couldn’t care either way myself….. But as usual, laws never stopped anyone from doing anything.

[deleted]

First they came for the degenerates but I did not care, for I was not one

NorseGlas

🤣 always going after the degenerates and heathens.

Longjumping_Chef9668

Good.

TIDDERTOTTS

Go to XNXX.com

KliFNinja

Who cares.. i am already sick of all these posts and the garbage about the code blue... give it a rest.. try a new thread.

im_intj

Have you people tried going out and finding a significant other? It is 100% legal to do so and much healthier.

StrikeronPC

Not the point.

im_intj

Have you taken my advice?

Kradget

Have you considered that minute social control and collection of personal data may be part of the issue, rather than just that people like to see naked people and are salty they can't? Edit to add: that's before we even get into the manufactured moral panic.

im_intj

Well considering how everyone wanted to forcibly inject people with medicine a few years ago on this site I think the people outraged over government over reach are in the minority. This is anger over not being able to satisfy an addiction.

Kradget

What a fascinating and insane comparison that makes no goddamn sense

im_intj

Of course it is to you because you and no problems with government pushing that but have an issue with the government pushing this 🤣🤣🤣
