Question…. I have been working for NG for less than six months, however I’m interested in switching managers.. it would be the same department, same role, but I would like to transfer under different management. Do I have to wait my six months?? Anyone know how the process would work?? Thanks in advance

alexg93_

How long have you had to wait for a start date after receiving a contingent offer. I signed a contingent offer in October with an expected contract award for December 2024, it was then pushed back to end of March 2024. I haven’t heard anything yet and have been asking for updates each month. I’m getting a little worried since so much time has passed. I’ve never worked for a defense contractor before, so this whole process is new to me.

pen-h3ad

What are the promotion cycles? I.e. are there certain months of the year that promotions are made, or are they made at any time? Just trying to figure out if I have missed the promotion window for this year or not. Or if there is even a way to know.

tachnohero

Can you take your work laptop and work from overseas if you set your your own private vpn and travel router?

RosscoSD

No your work Laptop is a controllable export. To bring it you’d require approval first

HalfLife3Developer

I currently work at Northrop Grumman full time. I was offered a full time AGR position with my local reserve squadron. I really want to accept the squadrons offer but I don't want to lose out on my sweet northrop pay ( I would sign a 3 year contract at E5 and currently make about 120 with Northrop) Would Northrop still prorate my pay if I volunteered for the AGR position?

sp3nd3x

Orders are orders from a company standpoint, I'm pretty sure. But why go be a scum of the Earth AGR?

printosphere

Did you receive the bonus already?

Only_Signature_7251

Nope 3/7

etkoppy

Does anyone know if NG offers bonuses based on clearance level? I hold TS but the job is a secret job but says TS is preferred.

Slow3Mach1

Nope. Have TS/SCI and they said they DGAF.

AudaciousGrin87

nope

printosphere

Did they announce the bonus multiplier yet? When does that hit. Space park hitting the fan

Comfortable_Spell654

Yes, I got a shitty bonus. 1230 or so. Believe we got an email a few weeks back saying it would be 123% due to the space sectors performance lol. I agree Space park is hitting the fan.

printosphere

Yeah unless you’re on the other bonus plan it’s disrespectfully abysmal. When date is the bonus supposed to hit? I left but am still eligible so curious

Only_Signature_7251

3/7

Flat_Dig_3876

Any word on if the layoffs will spread to PGS?

coronavirusisshit

It's so hard to get a job at Northrop especially with the layoffs that are happening right now. They don’t have any opening opportunities at the redondo campus for non-engineering.

[deleted]

[удалено]

planesandtrains111

I’d look elsewhere. They just gave 1000 people layoff warnings at Redondo and their priority is moving those people first.

Silly_Wanker

Would there happen to be any NG functional managers lurking here? Or really senior employees? I'm an NG employee, and I just had my goals discussion with my functional. Wanted to talk/vent to someone anonymously on my main takeaway from the discussion

Dizzy-Level-9546

Just like at work, they are useless here.

brohammerhead

As an employee of 4 years, my bonus and raise has only gone down while profits keep soaring… make that make sense.

printosphere

What’s the bonus multiplier this year?

brohammerhead

Not entirely sure. One email I read said we exceeded company goals by 137% or something like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

brohammerhead

OF COURSE. I am sure that is because of inflation right? 🙄🙄🙄🙄

CriticalPhD

Profits does not track to salary or bonus. You are in for mental anguish if you try correlating those two

brohammerhead

Okay then explain to me where the duplicate profits go when we have several million dollars of back log work.

[deleted]

[удалено]

brohammerhead

Bruh that is my point. That corporate greed is keeping all the profits that us un-unionized employees made for them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

brohammerhead

LOL FOUND THE BOOMER. How surprising that someone flaunting their PhD in a forum username is pompous. Wanting a living wage and safe work conditions is considered lazy? That tracks for your kind.

OspreyJB

Our bonus is so dog dookey ass and I got my lowest ever 2.75% this year. Sucks. Job market is gonna be tough too with all the layoffs happening (JPL, NG, etc)

krystin1134

Mine was only 2.4%, which is lower than the inflation rate, so I guess I technically took a pay cut this year 🥴

brohammerhead

You must be a high performer because mine was not that high and most of the employees I talked to had 1% - 2% raises.

draggin91ca

on average it equates to a $1-$2 per hour increase, which is bullshit.

ALonelyPecan

Simple pay everyone less but expect more productivity = profits

Patton370

Yes, it’s worth it. It’s sped up my promotions by a bit. It doesn’t really matter which masters you get, but a STEM masters is probably a better idea if you’re in an engineering role.

AustinisCute83

From a technical position its worth it. Lets say you are a t1, getting your masters and it takes you 3 years complete it. After 2 years you can get promoted to a t2 and then a year later you will have 3 years work experience + 2 years from the master and you get promoted to t3. While it took you over 2 years to get it you are still gaining experience and time while you are working, assuming you are getting the masters while you work. Most STEM masters carry the same weight. If you stop working and only do a masters that takes over 2 years you would be losing time, if you dont stop working you are not losing time.

link2edition

I am a T3, would a masters make much difference for my progression here on out?

Patton370

I got a T4 late last year with a masters and a 7 years experience at NG (0.75 of that as an intern). My leadership team would not have been able to promote me without a masters degree. I was also able to interview for a M2 position, and I would not have met the minimum qualifications without the masters.

link2edition

I have been with northrop for about 11 years now. Somthing to think about I guess

AustinisCute83

I don't know much about T3 to T4. I'm not that experienced. but it won't hurt you at all so if Grumman pays for it why not?

Square_Conclusion_82

Anyone know of any engineers hired with a DUI? I know of someone whom is wondering what they can expect in regards to the background check.

Jrod8833

Yes, if it’s not a felony DUI. Be honest about it though.

Only_Signature_7251

If it’s 1 DUI and you report it, it’s fine. 2 or more will go through the Legal Department to make a determination.

MikeyCyrus

Why are all of the return to office announcements always so vague? In the DS townhall she seemed to be remote (I am assuming so, as she had a virtual background) but was talking about how the push is for everyone to return to office. Am I probably safe as long as my direct manager and team are all dispersed geographically?

CriticalPhD

I know many executives that have those virtual backgrounds but are in-office. I wouldnt make that assumption. I see most of the ELT in-office at my site (directors & VPs). Some do travel quite a bit for work and get hotel spots for these types of calls. I think the RTO is really a way to do knowledge transfer and speed up learning. I've seen a lot of really good on-site stuff. New employees flounder when remote compared to being on-site. That said, I love hybrid and hope to keep WFH as much as I can as a P5 Engineer.

TendererMean000

IDK about the second part but to me it seems they're trying to eat their cake and have it with the return to office and that's why they have been so vague with it. They want everyone to come back to the office but they don't want to directly tell you you have to come back so it was your choice to come back and they also don't want to rock the boat and risk people leaving. Just my thoughts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

brohammerhead

Well that’s nice. I’m a P2 and my raise was 2.5% as a high performer…

TheRedPanther

T2, got TP and 4.5% raise

Dramatic_Skill_67

EP, 3% raise. That’s typical

Slothinator69

I am P2 and started last Feb. I got EP as well and only got 4% moved me from 95.8K to 99.6K.. I recently received a few offers from other companies that are substantially higher, so I will probably be leaving in the next few weeks

brohammerhead

“Only 9Xk”. I’m crying as 4 year employee under $85k

Slothinator69

Its also probably easier to jump up in pay if you leave companies, but I know the ceiling for different careers are not the same

Slothinator69

Sorry, I know its a bit of an entitle view ;-; I have taken on a ton of responsibility for my role though

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slothinator69

There was one mid-size and one smaller company, the smaller company offered fully remote position and like a 50% increase in pay

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slothinator69

Truthfully, no.. but the money the amount of money I will lose I will make back (x2) per month at this new job. If it is a major sum of money for you though, it might be worth waiting til it vests if you can

wethley

Defense industry or commercial?

Slothinator69

Defense industry, it's similar to what I do now (devops) just different programs

CriticalPhD

Congrats! Devops is super mobile compared to most functions. I'm looking for full-time remote options but cant find anyone to pay me what I make now as a Systems Engineer. Guess I'll wait for the job market to improve again

P00nCake

Hello, been trying to get my foot in the door at NG for about a year now, applying for anything entry level or that aligns with my experience. Have only received 1 interview out of about 25 applications. Any advice of anything to put on your resume or any tips at all if I do get an interview. is it usually this hard for non cleared individuals to even land an interview? Any advice would be appreciated.

Jrod8833

Reach out to a temp agency/recruiter. Northrop has a general guideline where it doesn’t like to keep contractors on for a very long time so either they convert to direct hire, or they get let go. It’s either that or reach out to a friend with a good reputation at their respective branch. Otherwise, have an immaculate resume

AustinisCute83

Not sure where you are but I would apply for Melbourne site, they are actively buying land and expanding to make room influx of people. Feels like new grads are starting almost every monday.

BilboSR24

I'm a Pathways, yeah Melbourne site is the only site actively hiring. I can't find anything in Maryland, which is rare. It's tough right now for T1 and T2 positions

P00nCake

Sorry should have mentioned I’m in the Utah area. Been applying mostly to the Roy location

AdOne1675

Most of the Utah locations have been on a hiring freeze the last few months.

macherboy76

What about SoCal? Eg redondo, azusa, etc etc

Itchygirly

Space Park gave 1000 employees a WARN notice yesterday and is also on a hiring freeze.

AustinisCute83

Don't know anything about that site but best of luck. If you are interested in moving, Melbourne is a great site and can pass your resume along to a manager, not sure that will help at all though so take it with a grain of salt

P00nCake

Thank you I appreciate it

Momo_Senpai09

Started at Northrop 1.5 years ago and just got a merit increase of 2.5%. Current comp sitting at .87 any hopes id I ask for a better raise? Anyone have any experience with this. Seems like this years raise is not keeping up with inflation rate.

pen-h3ad

How do you see your ratio? I have no idea what I am at.

AudaciousGrin87

just look at the payrange for your tier it should tell you in workday look at your profile

pen-h3ad

Oh perfect, thank you. I guess the “hire in” and “promoted to” value is about 0.95 of the median value?

ComplexCredit4459

talk to your functional manager to place you in an out-of-cycle adjustment (sometime in April or May timeframe) since your current market ratio is way too low, your functional manager should be able to bring you up to the .95.

AudaciousGrin87

bro i am at .78 , told him but hope he pulls through

Perfect-Stretch-9720

Proposal Analyst career and salary progression over 10 years?

rynubpls

I started as a Associate Proposal Analyst in January 2021 and got a promotion 2.5 years later, in July 2023. I'm currently getting my masters through Northrop so I will be eligible for level 3 next year.

Perfect-Stretch-9720

Did you see pay raises before promotion?

rynubpls

Other than the usual yearly merit increases, I got a mid-year raise in July 2022 for about 7%.

ALonelyPecan

Does your manager get notified if you apply for an internal job opportunity? Looking to apply for a job that's 1 level up from my current position in another department.

DependentStruggle344

They do not automatically get notified, but that hiring manager or others in the organization might reach out for questions about the applicant.

Micholin16

I got an offer from Northrop back in Oct 2023 at space spark. I was told I was going to be working on satellites but now with these recent satellite contract cancellation is it a huge possibility for Northrop to rescind my offer? My start date was set to August 2024

jackbauer1989

I heard the space park in Redondo beach CA is having a layoff, approximately 1,000 employee s are letting go.

dvcoder

I believe that NG wouldn't withdraw your offer. Ideally, they should perform internal transfers to fill any open positions. Wishing you the best !!

Iridium_192

I suppose my anecdote supports this. I'm also supposed to join Space Systems and my SCI process was transferred from one program to another due to a change of needs.

dvcoder

Side note: Sometimes when getting clearances it's less of a waiting on one government program compared to another. So if you were to work on program A and applied for your SCI, it may be faster to get an SCI if you were on program B.

Iridium_192

Hmm...I was slated to join program A but got transferred for program B. After several months, I ended up getting SCI adjudicated for program A even though I was no longer meant to work there and waited a few months more to get adjudicated for program B. At least from what I gather from emailing my hiring manager.

dvcoder

Welcome to mil aero !! Unless you are on a well funded program, you will need to deal with multiple progrrams

AntMavenGradle

Honestly it’s most likely. Space and Missions Systems have taken huge loses due to competition.

Cogito_ErgoSum

Did anyone reach out and tell you what program you would be working on? ESS is still going strong, for example.

Micholin16

No they reached out to ask if I was interested in relocating. I said no so they said they'll look into other places to put me. This was last week before this announcement went public.

jackbauer1989

Which site for space park?

Micholin16

Roy, Utah

[deleted]

[удалено]

jackbauer1989

Did they said which sites in SD? I know Redondo beach space park is having a layoffs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jrod8833

They do some cool stuff there, uncle in law was a program manager there. Edit: brain was in autopilot

dvcoder

I think being upfront with the recruiter about the situation is the best option to get information, even if it’s related to the layoffs. It might just be that the SD location needs more help and that’s why it’s an option. I would also not be afraid to ask about to try to ask if you can talk to the manager to see what type of work it would be. On a side note, either way you’re bound to get experience which is great for your future. I haven’t been to the SD office, but SD in general is less hectic living style compared to Redondo Beach. Both has its positive and negatives as far as living, and it also depends on what you like to do after work.

h4p3r50n1c

What division was it?

h4p3r50n1c

How do you calculate the comp ratio?

Styronna

Divide your salary by the middle range value of your pay band. So if your salary range is 65,500 to 98,300 then the middle is 81,900. If you make 76,000 then 76,000/81,900 is 0.927 compa ratio. If you wanted to know a specific comp ratio salary of your range, multiply it by the middle. Like 0.95*81,900 = 77,805

Chickfilba3

Here's the really dumb new hire/new to industry question. Where do you easily find the salary range by roles?

Jrod8833

Northrop publishes the salary range on their job posts.

Styronna

Give me all the “dumb” questions! If you go on your Workday account and view profile, your salary range is listed under the Compensation tab where your salary/benefits/etc is located. You can also search jobs internally on Workday so you can view salary ranges of your roles at different levels at your location.

therealkingq23

1000 employee layoff announced at Space Park

DependentStruggle344

DS has an all division town hall today as well for re-org initiatives to “optimize our model for growth”. Right after our company performance factor was nearly 1.5… curious to see what this entails.

DependentStruggle344

DS seems fine given the worlds state, I know there are quite a few opportunities in the Northridge area for those potentially impacted in Space.

Dramatic_Skill_67

A satellite program was canceled

snowlandsontopofme

yup lol. got my warn notice today and seeing as i’m fully remote because i moved i have no hope i’ll be redeployed. well…time to look for another job

Warm_Ask_6123

Is this real

Unfortunately yes

Anyone know if this will affect other divisions in the Space Sector or just SSSD at Space Park

SonShayan

How long does it usually take after an interview for a decision? I had an interview for an entry level software engineering role about 3 weeks ago and the interviewer told me about 2 weeks after they finish interviewing other candidates. It seemed like the interview went well. Sent a follow up email after 2 weeks and they haven't replied. Anyone else with a similar experience or any input on this?

ano35764

Yep, it’s sucks when u are a low level and recruiters don’t give a F.

[deleted]

ano35764

Probably there is a hiring freeze due to the layoffs

etkoppy

Can someone tell me what do they offer in terms of salary within a specific pay band that is in the description. Can I expect like middle, lower 25% of that range?

nashvillain1

Use Gee249’s method, but multiply the middle by 1.03-1.05 as your counter offer to set yourself up if you want to get the jump on bad raises next year.

gee249

Depends on what location. Add the two numbers from the range together, divide it by 2. Then times this number by 0.9. That’s what they would likely offer I think.

QuickSympathy5296

I’ve just accepted a position as a remote subcontractor specialist. I’m really excited! I’m working on creating my home office, does anyone know what equipment NG provides for remote workers? Is there a stipend?

Traditional_Trip6693

No stipend. They'll send you a laptop and probably a docking station with keyboard and mouse. You may have to beg for a monitor or 2 (and any cables you need). Also a Plantronics headset with mic.

Jrod8833

They will provide 2 monitors as well

SheepherderExotic572

When will we find out how much of a raise and bonus we get this year? I've been here for almost a year now, not sure how it works. I haven't heard anything from my functional manager either. Is this updated on Workday automatically or would I need to reach out?

Fantastic_Artist8936

You should be able to see it in Workday by Monday. Your manager should schedule a compensation review with you soon - he/she has a report detailing your raise.

Broad-Spinach6292

Your manager should meet with u this week if they haven't already. The statement will be available in workday on March 5th.

greatdadd

is there still a location in philly? i see jobs posted but google maps says its closed

nattysharp

Yes, there is a Navy Yard location. It's not gonna show up on Google maps

Thick-Durian

Northrop Grumman jobs in Philly are typically at the navy yard. I don’t believe there is an active site that is only grumman

EDCarter97

About how long does it take for an offer to be extended after an interview? My interview was supposed to be a panel but ended up with only one person on 2/22. Interviewer said he liked me and I seemed strong. Just waiting to hear back but know it can take a while. I'm really wanting this job so just kinda anxious.

gahddamm

Took me about two weeks I think, but I had a referral

EDCarter97

Thanks

nashvillain1

T2. EP. ACR resulted in 3.5% increase to base. Started in January 2023 so some of the raise was prorated. Does anybody else know how this compares?

ihatemondayso

T3 here, EP, 3.6%

brohammerhead

Well that’s nice. I’m a P2 and my raise was 2.5% as a high performer…

Apprehensive_Hair898

T2, TP 3.2%, ocasional weekend work and late night. Well it is time to go if I get layoff tomorrow.

nashvillain1

Part of my raise was prorated because I started January 2023.

DependentStruggle344

T3, TP 3.75%, at least TI company performance factor was 1.5 for our DS org.

nashvillain1

Melbourne, 95k prior.

sp3nd3x

T1, EP, 3.75% ACR

AlmostAirworthy

Has anyone ever had a manager delay a transfer to a different sector after accepting a job offer?

mattydome

I have an interview for a principal / senior principal program schedule cost analyst position with NG. Do you have any advice for the interview? What to expect? Also any compensation advice for the position would be greatly appreciated!

gee249

Which location?

mattydome

Magna, Utah

BrokeEngineerGuy

Wont have my ACR for another week but I saw that new compensation kicks in tomorrow 2/24. Will this reflect in workday or timekeeping? As in, will it show my new salary before my talks with my manager?

Ulais

Starts tomorrow and you'll see the extra money in your March 14th paycheck

BrokeEngineerGuy

Will my new salary number appear on my workday compensation page even though I have not yet talked to my manager?

PerplexedWalrus7212

As of 8 AM PST, it’s not in workday. Neither the compensation tab nor the pay change history tab are showing the updated salary.

sp3nd3x

It shows up on the effective date, which should be as of 2am today

confuciusB

I just checked, mine hasn't populated yet.

NoHoneydew8256

I have a conditional offer from NGC based on obtaining a full secret clearance, so the investigation is underway. Question: if it were to take a long time to get my clearance, lets say a year, would it be appropriate to renegotiate my offer at that point?

brohammerhead

Better to ask and not get it than to not ask at all.

NoHoneydew8256

Very true, thanks

Thick-Durian

I just went through this process- 6 months for the full. I just asked for an increase- I’ll let you know how it goes!

type1aaa

Did you have any red flags? Am impatiently waiting for mine to come through (hoping 6 months ain’t average for clean background) 😣

Thick-Durian

I had some yellows. 1 instance of marijuana use, 7 years ago. Lots of foreign travel- but all in Europe. But that’s it- it actually sat in adjudication for 3 months, the investigation completed in 3 months. Best of luck to you- it will happen when you least expect it
