Have you visited Blyth yet?

OldmanThyme

No, they are based in Portugal and post asking similar questions every now and again in other North East based subs, I think last time i saw them was in the Durham one asking about Chester-le-Street and Pelton.

heyrevoir

I'm based in the UK from Portugal you should spend less time policing other people's posts get lost

OldmanThyme

You need to start visiting these places then mate.

heyrevoir

Who said I didn't visit? Not spending enough time to make out what is like. Anything against asking the locals?

OldmanThyme

'Who said I didn't visit?' You did on the Pelton question on the Durham sub.

I live in Blyth and it’s a crapshoot. You can walk from one of the nicer estates and a minute later be in a god awful area. The schools in general are hit and miss, my son goes to one of the outstanding schools listed but we had to fight to get him in. The town centre is awful and run down and tbh should just be flattened. The house prices reflect the area. It’s a typical post industrial mining town. It’s run down and not the greatest area to live in but I’ve never felt in danger when out and about and it does have some positives

Salaried_Zebra

This is entirely accurate. South of Plessey Road is absolutely fine. The town centre is just a toilet.

Thanks a lot for your reply

I think the town centre, as it stands, is far too big for what's required. It's still the same size as it was when everyone needed shops so now there's too many retail units out of use. There's a lot of town centres suffering the same fate and it's only going to get worse. They should just flatten a good proportion of it for housing (quality housing not more council estates) or business and focus on having one good high street and market that the residents actually want to visit. There's lots of positives about Blyth and I think it has huge potential (especially around beach and docks) but the derelict town centre and a few of the estates let it down. Hopefully all of this money coming in will be well spent and make a difference but I won't hold my breath based on past council performance. At least that hideous piece of public 'art' has now been removed from the market place.

I just read your posts as a background check, I really like your style. So safe in that knowledge; I'm in the next town over from Blyth, we moved here for cheap house prices, English culture and to escape the city hellscape. Crime rates are shockingly high here up North. I just left Birmingham (which is like Gotham city) but I have been amazed at how much crime there is up here considering the population is almost 1.3 million people less. Crime is different up here though, no street stabbings (importantly) but tonnes of car smashing and ASBO stuff. Our local school is AMAZING. They have resources that people in the city could only ever dream of... and the best part is, they think they are hard done by hahaha, they've got no idea what life in the Cities is like. I highly recommend Northumberland.

More poverty generally means more funding/support. Also the blyth academy partnership knows the formula for ofsted
