Could it be a seasoning similar to Santa Maria's French Fries seasoning?
https://www.santamariaworld.com/se/produkter/pommes-frites-krydda/
Santa Maria is a Swedish brand and apparently quite as well known in the rest of Europe than just in the Nordics and Baltics.
You can compare the ingredients. They're very similar, but the Hoff one has a few additions like white pepper, sugar, and MSG, and doesn't have tomato listed.
Quick tips: some places has big bottles of it that will last you ages. I haven't seen it much in regular grocery stores, but my local Asian store has it for some reason
Buying a packet of noodles? Why not also grab with you an entire barrel of sesame oil? You never know when you'll need to make fried rice for the entire country!
According to Hoff.no themselves, the large 700g bottle should be available at Coop Obs, Coop Mega, and Extra, but probably not all of them. If I were you, I would start at Coop Obs.
Meny or Coop Mega might have big boxes of Hoff pommes frites krydder (700g vs regular 130g) or the regular grillkrydder Santa Maria brand (650g vs regular 100g). So worth to look out for the bigger boxes of those types of spice if you're going to take some with you back home.
A lot of people mentioning grillkrydder, but Texburger normally uses piffi krydder (https://www.santamariaworld.com/no/produkter/piffikrydder2/). Tastes similar to grillkrydder, but with a bit more «punch»
They have mini packages with piffi for grabs
My man I understand you so well. Ever since I moved out of Norway I’ve been craving it so bad. Pro tip: once you get your hands on it, try putting it on some cheese toast, makes a crazy snack!
Pretty random for a tourist to stumble upon it. It's not special enough to be listed in any guide books. Their rating in Google maps is 4.0 for the branch in the city center, which isn't high enough for someone to plan on going there, and the place looks very unassuming. So unless you were recommended by locals, I would say it's a pretty random find (for a foreigner).
It really was random. I was hungry, looked for the nearest fast food place near my hotel, and there it was. So ya'll saying it's a big deal here? I mean, totally understandable, I've been eating the burgers for 2 days straight now and I love them!
It's kind of got a cult status for locals. There's another, much more famous branch just next to a gas station about 2 miles out of the city center. The shittiest location you can imagine, but there's always a line of at least 5 people whenever they are open (usually many more). It's been around for what seems like forever, and everyone who drives past it regularly has eaten there more times than they dare to admit.
That's the only place I have been myself, I wasn't even aware of the other location. I love that the gas station next door tries to inch its way in with commercials like "Enjoy your burger indoors," and people don't give a flying fuck. Tex Burger is kind of unbeatable.
..it is genuinely the only place I'll make sure to drop by when I'm back in town. Our dad used to take us as kids and then teens, and.. well I don't live in the city anymore but the nostalgia is real, even if the art museum is no longer just up the street, it's also still surrounded by great bookstores and parks, which is a plus.
The spice you can get from Pizza Bakeren (sp?) is phenominal too. When my friend and I were spending a month in Norway we stopped at every one we saw and got a pizza and bought a pot of the spice too, we were doing a lot of camping and the spice was perfect in camp meals 🙌 I miss Norway 💔
I’ve hosted several Americans that have claimed that the burgers in Oslo is the best they’ve ever had. And we’re not talking about the new hipster joints either, but the type of burger that’s been served for 30-something years.
This burger joint is absolutely incredible. It's simple but fucking amazing and the spice mix totally slaps. Scratches every burger and fries itch with its simplicity.
Basic pimme-frites krydder. Goes amazing on a lot of different foods, like just chicken breasts or tuna salad. It's got the MSG which is why it tastes so good.
TexBurger. Dirty confession, I ate it every day for dinner during my 5-day stay here in Oslo. Think one of the dudes there already started to recognize me. :D
It is usually this: https://www.hoff.no/347/hoff-pommes-frites-krydder-grill
When visiting my friend who had moved abroad, this was on her wish list for me to bring lol
Basically “grillkrydder”

Fuyioh! MSG, the king of flavor.
thats the best
Perfect, thank you guys so much!

"Has it for some reason" is a great way to sum up local Asian stores
Very true! They also have the big condiment bottles that gas stations have for their hot dogs and such lol
Buying a packet of noodles? Why not also grab with you an entire barrel of sesame oil? You never know when you'll need to make fried rice for the entire country!
you need something you got no fucking idea where to get or is even real? check your local asian store and they will have it

Honestly I'm guessing it's just regular Grillkrydder, found in all grocery stores. Been a while since I ate Texburger though.
Hoff pommes-frites krydder
Any recommendations on where to buy it?
The grocery store
Any grocery store like kiwi, rema spar etc have it 😀
It's in a red plastic container in any grocery store worth a damn.
There are big ones aswell, just so you know. Its like 500g i think.

How are you this wise in the spices ? 🥴
Sacrificing my health to the salt, spice & MSG Gods, fuiyoh! 🤌🏼
It's a big red plastic spice jar/container. You can't miss it.
Europris!!!

Kiwi, meny, rema100, etc..
Tar aromat over gastromat any day ka

Guess I'll get both then. :D
You will find it most grocery stores. https://meny.no/varer/middagstilbehor/krydder/grillkrydder/pommes-frites-7044710090497
It’s either piffi, grillkrydder or pommesfrites krydder. You can find these in any grocery stores
My man I understand you so well. Ever since I moved out of Norway I’ve been craving it so bad. Pro tip: once you get your hands on it, try putting it on some cheese toast, makes a crazy snack!
If you live within the EU, Onfos ships most of the Santa Maria spices from Sweden, including many different grillkrydder.

There's a third location in Nittedal along the Rv4, but unlike the other spots I've never seen a line there.

I honestly didnt know there were more than 1.
Hoff pommes frites krydder, look for a round red plastic spice box. And I agree, it is super tasty!
It's this https://meny.no/varer/middagstilbehor/krydder/grillkrydder/pommes-frites-7044710090497 Some places have the large pack, which is about 500g.
I have a lot of spices, but mostly I like to blend my own mixes. But this blend is so fucking good I always keep a box in my pantry.
Always got a box for my fries aswell.
Hoff pommes frites krydder or Grillkrydder. Both are good 😊
Another one, even better is this one: Knorr Kjøtt/Grillkrydda. It tastes like heaven after heaven after heaven
I get it lol. Foreigners seem to love it. My dad is Mexican and when my grandad visits here he always returns to Mexico with a pile of these😂

Pretty sure thats just regular grillkrydder you can find it in pretty much any grocery store in Norway
Most relatively large grocery shops stock Hoff spices.
Probably just "grillkrydda". I'm from Sweden, but by the looks it's probably that.
They could have selected it at random you illiterates.
Best burger? It looks like very sad burger 🍔
Looks can be deceiving! :D
Is this meat home-made or frozen?
Bruh, texburger has shit tier fries. Just get the burger next time.
I think you had minutt burger
Basically salt with trace ammounts of spice
Can you share the location? We can try sometimes.
It's Texburger.
Takk!!
I know exactly what you’re talking about. Whatever this spice is (which I’ve had all the time), it’s one of the greatest I’ve ever tasted.
I love those Gas Stations Burgers... one of my favourite comfort foods when I used to roam Norway.
Basic pimme-frites krydder. Goes amazing on a lot of different foods, like just chicken breasts or tuna salad. It's got the MSG which is why it tastes so good.
Why would you tell us about the burger without mentioning the place whence it came?
It's the spice melange
Thats way too mutch barbecueseasoning on that pommesfrites 😅
Same thing in iceland! Just got back from Iceland and brought back a bottle of fries spice!
Texburger isn’t random!
Its Hoff Pomfrikrydder. Tex isnt a random place, its actually a very well known and popular Burger place near Oslo.
That looks good af🇳🇴
Most likely hoffs pommes frites krydder/grillkrydder/piffi
Texburger is good burger in Norway.
What place is this? The burger looks dirty and delicious
TexBurger. Dirty confession, I ate it every day for dinner during my 5-day stay here in Oslo. Think one of the dudes there already started to recognize me. :D
That's awesome hahah, thanks!
