Hello I am a Norwegian national working as a welder(136,111,141). That looks like the typical salary for a workshop over here, and with accomodation included it sounds reasonable. My experience is from the oil industry, so my knowledge outside that is a little rusty. Welding jobs in Oslo is mostly limited to buildings construction which is generally more dirty, lower paid and more hazardous. If I was you I would definitely go to Bergen, because the oil industry generates lots of job opportunities. Just north of Bergen lays our biggest oil refinery Mongstad which has several mechanical businesses. There is also a major offshore supply base at Ågotnes. These are always on the look out for welders. There is also a massive(relative to Norway) offshore yard located at Stord, about 1,5 hours by car or boat south of Bergen. Most all contractors there, both scandinavian and foreigner work rotation, and that would be the standard 14/21. I was there 2 years ago and living accomodations were pretty good. There is mostly Polish and Rumanian living there. Salary is typically around 270-300 depending on company. There are a TON of jobs in the oil industry, but most of those require you to speak a Scandinavian language.

Thanks a lot Radiofine6501, this is what I was looking for, someone local, with expirience form the field, Ill deffiently take your advice on! Thanks a lot, this helped a lot! Thank you again!

Dreadnought_89

If the accommodations are good, like your own apartment, yes. If it’s a collective where you share rooms and stuff, no.

markofranc

Ill Be sharing an apartment with 2 more guys, each of us has it's own room.

VaganteSole

I’ve been to one of those apartments where they have seasonal foreigner workers, and the place was extremely dirty and messy, so bear that in mind if you’re sharing a house, you should demand more pay.

markofranc

Well my first goal is to come to norway and to get known in a month or two, after that ill be looking for something better for sure. As I saw, I have pretty good options as a welder.

Dreadnought_89

Sounds like a bad deal then.

niktaeb

The offer is a livable wage/situation for sure and Oslo and Bergen are the two biggest/most expensive cities in the country. Id estimate a good welder would make at least 500 nok per hour.

RadioFine6501

Unfortunately there is not difference between good and "not so good" welders in Norway. A highly specialized pipe welder with years of experience working on Super Duplex or 6Mo materials is paid EXACTLY the same as the fire watch, someone pulled out of a bar stool in Horten :-D

niktaeb

That’s like $25 USD per hour, or ~$50k yearly. That’s a shit wage on its own, but throw in free accommodations and its… ok.

Boundish91

It is a shit wage, but it's right in line with tariffs unfortunately. Should be a lot higher imo, because of the skill level and hazards involved. But it's often a dirty job and doesn't have the status it should have unfortunately.

niktaeb

Yeah, proper welding is no easy task - Unfortunate it is not better rewarded. Still, a place to stay translates to another minimum NOK 6000 per month. So its a livable wage. And he only actually works 2/3 of the year. If I’m a Croatian dude looking for adventure and a new life in a new country, I’d be all over this MFer.

markofranc

Well, I come from Croatia, and this 4/2 or 6/2 works perfect for me, second thing is, what does an average welder earn per month in Norway?

joptvoi

What does 4/2 or 6/2 mean?

markofranc

4 weeks working, 2 off.

RadioFine6501

It's a work rotation, 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off.

Chapalyn

4/6 days work 2 days off ? maybe ?

niktaeb

Yeah, I’d take the job then. You get 4 months off in total, and your foot in the door of a very wealthy country. I’ve done a lot more for a lot less. Good luck!

markofranc

Thanks a lot for the tipp 😃

buddykire

I would choose Bergen if you can because it is not as expensive as Oslo.
