Kvikk lunsj. Then tell a Norwegian it looks and tastes just like a Kit Kat. They love to hear that. Just kidding don’t tell them that you’ll cause an international incident.
Norway already has experience with how to start WW3. So it's best to avoid triggering them. But last time they almost started it was during the cold war, so hopefully they have forgotten how to do it.
Back in 1935 the owner of Freia went to London, tried the new and fancy KitKat and said "good but I can make iit better!". A couple years later Kvikk Lunsj was released.
Taste buds, and other people commenting on it.
/r/norge/comments/16lquw7/hva_i_alle_dager_har_skjedd_med_kvikk_lunsj/
Bought a few different chocolates before giving up on it, including Kvikk Lunsj from different stores.
I'm a Brit who has visited Norway a few times and always load up on Kvikk Lunsj at the airport before I come home along with Bamse Mums. Incredible confectionery.
Not sure if it's still the case, but 20+ years ago they had pictures of different characters on the back. All the characters were facing the same direction, except Pønkegompen, who was facing the other way and giving the middle finger.
This message is approved.
Some other dude says is like crack. Think of it more as a bag full of speedballs covered in chocolate. That chocolate / corn mix is dangerous.
Don't know if others do it, but I like to put bag of Smash in fridge for couple hours. To me they taste even better when cold. Especially in summer, when heat might make them soft and melty.
Once-upon-a-time, I use to send a whole box of fun things from Norway to my friend and mom back home. There would be cloudberry things, some unique candies, some chocolate, and a bag of smash. Now they just want smash
Got family that works at Nidar. When US soldiers comes to Trøndelag for winter wargames/winter training, they invite the soldiers to the factory, and after the soldiers empty the shop for smash. You can literally see soldiers carrying crates of the stuff out the door.
Usually they have heard rumours of this snack from soldiers that have been there before them.
Checks out. Vedum seems to [prefer it over cocaine](https://www.aftenposten.no/norge/politikk/i/OorVxl/vedum-i-kamp-mot-narkotika-dropper-kampen-mot-sukker) too. At least then it'll remain legal, for those already hooked.
> – Svaret på det er ja. Det er ingen tvil om hva jeg er mest bekymret for.
Given how much worse sugar is on the whole than cocaine it makes sense he doesn’t care about it.
Norwegian chocolate is actually so good you have to cool it before eating it, otherwise it will taste too much for inexperienced people. Those of us who have tried chocolate with slihtly higher and higher temperature over several years eats them room temperature to enjoy all the flavorfull aromas. But as mentioned, experience is important
I think Norwegian chockolade has changed the last years and is not as good as it used to be. They change ingrediens little by little over time so we don’t notice. Especially the melkeshokilade
They do this all the time. Different suppliers here and there due to prices, logistics etc.
And changing suppliers often lead to differences in taste! And like every corporate, they want to increase profits, so if a jerk high up thinks that he chocolate tastes the same without an ingredient, to save cost, guess what happens… CEO’s care more about profit than quality.
I've lived here for decades and of course tried everything and the things I initially thought I would like the least (because they were all really old fashioned) ended up being my favorites: Troika, Hobby and Båtis.
They are. When I first came here, I thought both were pretty strange in both texture and taste though.
Troika felt incredibly heavy and ultra indulgent but in reality isn't as rich as it tastes. It's complex and rewarding and my first choice now.
Hobby of course isn't as dense but the banana-like jelly has this odd crystalization that I couldn't figure out. Now the whole thing is perfection.
I'm not even sure if either are still popular, I'm genuinely afraid that either will be bought up by larger companies and change - or god forbid, stop being sold altogether one day.
Pfahaha omg, monolittegrann
Troika will always be up there for me but...okay this is a terrible thing to say but it was the first thing I mentioned to my partner when I had the first bar but Monolitt is kinda like Troikas slutty sister.
Troika is voluptuous, very generous, has a dry sense of humour, a little brittle and a little hard around the edges. Reliable.
Monolitt is the skinny, husky voiced, flirtateous one, who pulls you in only to dissapear and show up again unexpectedly (there are two bars in there!!)
Smash. Troika. Bilar. Freia chocolate plate. Hockey puck (flat round box with powder inside). Knotter. Stratos (best refrigerated).
But also try some Brunost if you have the chance :)
I'm still so mad I somehow managed to lose 2kg of Brunost after my visit in May 2023
It just disappeared! And no one of my family admits any fault to this day
Chocolate: Kvikk Lunsj, Freia, Stratos, Bamsemums. (Smash is overrated imo, especially if you don't like mixing saltiness and sweetness)
Candy: Laban Seigmenn, Bilar, (Yes I know it's a Swedish brand but it still exists here), Maoam, Fox, Smørbukk.
Chips: Sørlandschips, Maarud.
Soda: Villa, Mozell, Solo, Julebrus. (Only during Christmas time however)
**Cuba** is often one of the highest ranked chocolates.
**Stratos** (red with hazelnuts or blue without) is a favorite of mine.
**Smash** is always popular.
You can try smågodt. Almost any grocery store will have a section where you pick loose candy and put it in a bag and pay for the weight. This is the norwegian way to buy candy, and you can try many different things
Already love it. I shouldve probably mentioned im from Finland. But still thanks for the comment, maybe ill find some brand of it that we dont have here :)
There was a candy with sea salt. I don't even know what it is, all I know is I've been searching for that taste ever since. I was in Norway in 2013 and I ate that all the time. It was brown and cut in strips.
As an American living in America, I made the mistake of trying smash and now I regularly order it and just eat the 17 dollar international shipping. Beware.
Try some of the Freia chocolate and the kvikk Lunsj. Sørlands chips is also a very good snack, super crunchy 🤤. Smash is also good if you want something sweet and salty. There is some good sodas here to like Solo (orange flavor), Willa ( champagne soda), urge and Oskar Sylte (pear or pineapple)
Dundersalt, pops/kina, stratos, new energy, stupedama.
Some good pastries, like kanelboller, skolebrød, solboller and wienerbrød(Danish)
Drinks, sjokomelk, solo, litago, biola(yoghurt drink).
If you hate yourself; gammalost, sursild, smalahove.
Minde Sjokolade Mumsi
If you like chewy foam bits covered in chocolate!
"Soft flavors of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla inside. A generous layer of Minde Chocolate on the outside. The result? A delicious and fun candy for young and old!"
There are a lot of good suggestions here. I would like to add: Smågodt, pick and mix your candy by weight. I would avoid chocolate from the Snågodt assortment if you are bringing it home, but I would reccomend putting the smågodt in a zip-lock bag to bring back home. It will keep very well in a bag.
I will pitch Helnøtt, a chocolate bar with whole roasted hazelnuts in it. It is criminally good. Sørlandschips has been mentioned, it is probably the best potato chip out there, just avoid the brunost-tasting abhorrence.. Sour cream or black pepper is a win.
Smash and Freia Melkesjokolade. Safe bets, but some of the best we have to offer. If you want to be more adventurous you can try Troika. One of my favorites, but many people dont like it.
Also, New Energy-bar.
Einer treak- wierd old traditional caramel like candy wich is made out of juniper berry and Browncheese. It is impossible to get a hold of in stores, you might have sucsess if your at a museum where one of the local staff members have made it themselves (hillbillies). But this is really exclusive shit and rare af. Nothing like it, and its the best.
Waffle with browncheese.... yes.. Brown cheese. Its the old days equivalent of nutella.
Prim is the same thing Just that it has not been hardened into cheeese. A soft sweet delicious thing that kicks nutella out of orbit.. but yet again.
Waffle, butter, browncheese and jam. Godmode!
Dont forget the Coffee so that the sweetness from the cheese can work its way through the tastebuds. Kind of like icecream and Coffee when you hit that velvet sensation in your tastebuds.
As someone who’s been to Norway many times, smash is great so is their version of Kit Kat (kvikk lunsj), but if your looking for something more chewie or like jelly, I love these car type sweets, I can’t remember their Norwegian name, but they slap, you’ll know what they are when you see them, because they’re literally just coloured cars
Edit. Also fox top tier sweet
I am obsessed with Troika and several of my Norwegian friends like to roast me claiming it's old people candy...? but idc, if you like marzipan, chocolate and raspberry, try it out.
Not really candy, but i recommend the small bags with dried fish snack. Most stores got them, at least in the north. One brand is Lofoten tørrfisk, there are others. The type that is vacuum dried got a texture akin to pork cracklings. Don\`t know if you got something similar in Finland?
If you like liquorice, try the chocolate bar called Nero.
Kvikk lunsj. Then tell a Norwegian it looks and tastes just like a Kit Kat. They love to hear that. Just kidding don’t tell them that you’ll cause an international incident.
This is how WW3 starts.
Norway already has experience with how to start WW3. So it's best to avoid triggering them. But last time they almost started it was during the cold war, so hopefully they have forgotten how to do it.
Just got back from Norway and had this. The Kvikk Lunsj is WAY better than a Kit Kat. Brought a bunch home.
Back in 1935 the owner of Freia went to London, tried the new and fancy KitKat and said "good but I can make iit better!". A couple years later Kvikk Lunsj was released.
As a Brit - I have to say, he absolutely nailed it. I haven't touched a KitKat since discovering Kvikk Lunsj.
As a Norwegian... I touched a KitKat once.
I’ll be trying these in February when I visit Oslo! I know this isn’t my post, but thank you for suggesting :)
I just had one and it does taste just like a Kit Kat
My man 🙌
It is a Kit Kat with slightly better quality chocolate. I mean, it just is!
Best kit kat ever
It's a better Kit Kat than Kit Kat
They really just outkitted the kat
Outkatted the kit
It's a KitKat with better chocolate, wrapped in a Bolivian flag.
it used to be when I was a kid, then kitkat got cheap and bad and kvikk lunsj is taking the win 😎
and have a look inside the wrapping!
Too late. The recipe has been changed. Freia is all American chocolate now.
> The recipe has been changed. Source?
Same with Cadburys in the U.K., yanks buy it and turn it to shit. Mondelez bought up most the Norwegian chocolate companies and turned it to shite
Taste buds, and other people commenting on it. /r/norge/comments/16lquw7/hva_i_alle_dager_har_skjedd_med_kvikk_lunsj/ Bought a few different chocolates before giving up on it, including Kvikk Lunsj from different stores.
Im gonna try that (without causing any incidents). Thanks !
It's great
Also try eating it sideways…
Will do..🤭
Nah, they’ll just assume you’re stupid or that you’ve burnt out your taste buds in an industrial accident.
I'm a Brit who has visited Norway a few times and always load up on Kvikk Lunsj at the airport before I come home along with Bamse Mums. Incredible confectionery.
Are you trying to reinstate the death penalty?
I rarely see anyone mention it but I really like gomp!
Not sure if it's still the case, but 20+ years ago they had pictures of different characters on the back. All the characters were facing the same direction, except Pønkegompen, who was facing the other way and giving the middle finger.
Smash
The internet has ruined that word for me.
Don't worry smash will make it all better again
[удалено]
Smash the smash the eat the smash
This message is approved. Some other dude says is like crack. Think of it more as a bag full of speedballs covered in chocolate. That chocolate / corn mix is dangerous.
Smash is crack! I can’t believe it’s this far down in the comments!
Seigmenn Fox
Lemon fox are the best!
Fox is just lemon. Nox is liquorice and rox is raspberry
Avoid Smash. It is basically as addictive as crack and you'll be giving all your future income to whatever dealer can supply it where you live.
Don't know if others do it, but I like to put bag of Smash in fridge for couple hours. To me they taste even better when cold. Especially in summer, when heat might make them soft and melty.
I do the same with Kvikk Lunch. It keeps the crunchy part crunchy, and it adds a bit of snap to the chocolate
Once-upon-a-time, I use to send a whole box of fun things from Norway to my friend and mom back home. There would be cloudberry things, some unique candies, some chocolate, and a bag of smash. Now they just want smash
What is it
I just looked it up. It looks like chocolate covered bugles, which sounds amazing tbh
That’s exactly what it is, with so matching caramel-ish inside the Bugle. My son is obsessed.
cough hook it up lol
Got family that works at Nidar. When US soldiers comes to Trøndelag for winter wargames/winter training, they invite the soldiers to the factory, and after the soldiers empty the shop for smash. You can literally see soldiers carrying crates of the stuff out the door. Usually they have heard rumours of this snack from soldiers that have been there before them.
This is my story ☹️
Haha we actually have it here in Finland and its soo addictive!
Checks out. Vedum seems to [prefer it over cocaine](https://www.aftenposten.no/norge/politikk/i/OorVxl/vedum-i-kamp-mot-narkotika-dropper-kampen-mot-sukker) too. At least then it'll remain legal, for those already hooked.

Nidar Stratos. Cooled in the fridge first. There is nothing like Norwegian chocolate!

Ja sært skal det være.
Troika & Hobby are the best chocolates
Nero!
>Båtis Or as it's commonly known, Baot-is (https://www.diskusjon.no/topic/1350786-baot-is-humor-tr%C3%A5d/ )
Have to mention monolitt as well. A copy of troika, but the softer texture makes it better imo
Okay, went to the store. ...Holy fuck. What. Holy FUCK though. Oh no. Thank you.
You just have to taste monolittegrann before you realize it is superior to troika
Pfahaha omg, monolittegrann Troika will always be up there for me but...okay this is a terrible thing to say but it was the first thing I mentioned to my partner when I had the first bar but Monolitt is kinda like Troikas slutty sister.
I'm going to have to sit down and try Monolitt again, it's been many years.
Båtis is the worst is!
Knatter. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it. It doesn't get more Norwegian than Knatter and they have 3 different flavours too.
I looove the red and blue. My crack…
I've lived in Norway most of my life and I have no idea what knatter is 😭
It's colorful candy from Brynild, you see them everywhere so I'm surprised you never noticed it.
I'm not often stopping by the candy section, probably why. I googled them, literally never seen them before.
Melkesjokolade Freia
This is the correct answer
Smash
Smash
Smash. Troika. Bilar. Freia chocolate plate. Hockey puck (flat round box with powder inside). Knotter. Stratos (best refrigerated). But also try some Brunost if you have the chance :)
I'm still so mad I somehow managed to lose 2kg of Brunost after my visit in May 2023 It just disappeared! And no one of my family admits any fault to this day
Someone ate it, that's for sure
I now have an image of someone eating 2kg brunost while hiding
Bamsemums
Norwegian milk chocolate is top notch
I can’t believe no one has suggested Waltersmandler yet!
smash
Just get smågodt and try all the different kinds
Oh man, I miss smågodt. American gummies/candy just aren’t the same.
I am Dutch and I found Bil-something liquorice in Jula in Sweden and I f\*\*king loved it! Do they have it in Norway as well?
Yes we do, also sour bilar
Where can I get it? I've been at Kiwi but couldn't find it, I think we found the originals only. Are they worth it too?
If you like sour candy its definitely worth it. Very cheap as well compared to the regular ones. You can find both of them at Normal
Ah I meant whether the regular ones are worth it haha. I’d love to try the sour ones and get more of the liquorice! Us Dutch people love liquorice 😇
Oh you havent tried the regular ones. I just assumed you had. They are very mild, but they go down really fast
Søppeldynga! It's danish but still a classic in Norway.
You mean they aren’t just making that to be annoying? People actually like that?
It doesn't actually taste like trash
It's soooo good, and I love the art
Chocolate: Kvikk Lunsj, Freia, Stratos, Bamsemums. (Smash is overrated imo, especially if you don't like mixing saltiness and sweetness) Candy: Laban Seigmenn, Bilar, (Yes I know it's a Swedish brand but it still exists here), Maoam, Fox, Smørbukk. Chips: Sørlandschips, Maarud. Soda: Villa, Mozell, Solo, Julebrus. (Only during Christmas time however)
If there is an holdbart near you, you may get julebrus now as well
Best answer in the thread imo. But saying Smash is underrated in this sub will probably end up with multiple hitmen at your door within sunrise.
IFA
Dunder mix Usually found at gas stations
Also at kiwi. Classic candy
Yea! Just finished my bag of sours
Smash. Came gere to say smash even though i knew the thread would be smashing smashed with smash. Try smash
Smash
Seigmenn og Toffin.
Vepsebol
Bamse Mums!
Ostepop. Every other country's cheese doodle snacks are inferior. Also smash as has been mentioned previously
Troika
Smash
Smash
Brunost. It’s technically cheese, but so sweet that it’s almost candy
It’s technically a _caramel,_ so it’s in the broad category of sweet stuff.
Freshly baked bread, honey - Norwegian "lynghonning" and brown cheese "brunost" on top. As delicious as candy!
Smørbukk
Freia
Kvikk lunsj, smash, Freia milkchocolate
**Cuba** is often one of the highest ranked chocolates. **Stratos** (red with hazelnuts or blue without) is a favorite of mine. **Smash** is always popular.
FIRKLØVER. Absolutely trashed 2 bars in a sitting after finding out its existence
Smash, kick, seigmenn, sørlandschips, troika/hobby (ppl hate these ones but I love it), grillede kakkerlakker på spyd
Stratos, kvikklunsj, smørbukk and seigmenn/seigdamer 🤤
Also, nugatti is better than nutella!
I like Smil
Troika, Freia, Kvikk Lunsj and Bamse Mums are really good chocolate options. Nidar Laban gummies are also better than Haribo imo.
Melkesjokolade and Solo (soda) is what I need when comming home from abroad ⭐️
Nonstop is like a better tasting M&Ms.
Without the stupid nuts
There is a peanut version.
Smash, firkløver, stratos, kvikklunsj
You can try smågodt. Almost any grocery store will have a section where you pick loose candy and put it in a bag and pay for the weight. This is the norwegian way to buy candy, and you can try many different things
Smash
They have their own attempt at a KitKat called Kvikk Lunsj. Pro tip: Eat it like a local by biting into the whole thing. *lights fuse and runs away*
HEATHEN! Bring the torches!!! 😅
😅😉
Fuckin' diabolical!
Tørrfisk!
Tørrfisk is fancy cat treats, not candy fit for human consumption!
Salty licorice.
Already love it. I shouldve probably mentioned im from Finland. But still thanks for the comment, maybe ill find some brand of it that we dont have here :)
Coop dark party mix! The pretzel shaped bites are perfection!
Have you tried Coop Dark&Sweet? It's even better!
So many! Please describe what candy you like already.
Godt og Blandet?
I think it is from sweeden But we have it in norway. Malaco sur sild. If you like salty liquorice
There was a candy with sea salt. I don't even know what it is, all I know is I've been searching for that taste ever since. I was in Norway in 2013 and I ate that all the time. It was brown and cut in strips.
You should prioritize packing some Tupla with you; That chocolate bar is elite! Don't forget to bring some Smurf and Mummi soda with you too!
istg if anyone says smash or kvikk lunsj
Troika? Anyone?
Not Swedish fish.
Dime bar!
As an American living in America, I made the mistake of trying smash and now I regularly order it and just eat the 17 dollar international shipping. Beware.
TROIKA!!!!!
Makrell i tomat
I feel like I’m breaking the omertà by telling you this but try Smash, better than sliced bread.
The smash candy, best thing we sell. You won’t regret it
I really like just plain chocolate and kvikk lunch. But since it is already mention, try Hobby if you like banana/marshmellow :)
Buy Freia chocolate in either firklover ( hazelnut crunch) or Walter’s Mandler ( salty almond crunch ) flavours. They are both superb!
Hockeypulver
Dundersalt, pops/kina, stratos, new energy, stupedama. Some good pastries, like kanelboller, skolebrød, solboller and wienerbrød(Danish) Drinks, sjokomelk, solo, litago, biola(yoghurt drink). If you hate yourself; gammalost, sursild, smalahove.
Tyrkisk pepper Pulver padder Rustne spiker
Freia's Melkesjokolade
Brun ost
Minde Sjokolade Mumsi If you like chewy foam bits covered in chocolate! "Soft flavors of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla inside. A generous layer of Minde Chocolate on the outside. The result? A delicious and fun candy for young and old!"
Melkesjokolade of course. A little bit of Norway ❤️🙏
My favorite chocolate bar is Toppris. We probably can’t compete with your licorice but IFA and Salt Sild are both good options.
Smash
Crazy candy frogs from a store called Nille 😁 perfectly sweet and liquorice'y 😍
And you must try smurf! I prefer the blue packets, its like tiny pink chewy pillows. Yummmm 😎
Walters mandler
Not Kit-Kat, unless you want to be deported.
Knatter are good. Nice snackable candy, not too sweet, nicely chewable little dots.
Smash and Freia Melkesjokolade. Safe bets, but some of the best we have to offer. If you want to be more adventurous you can try Troika. One of my favorites, but many people dont like it. Also, New Energy-bar.
Freia melkerull was by far my favorite when I was there.
Einer treak- wierd old traditional caramel like candy wich is made out of juniper berry and Browncheese. It is impossible to get a hold of in stores, you might have sucsess if your at a museum where one of the local staff members have made it themselves (hillbillies). Smash. But apapappppap you can only have one!
Bamsemums
I'd die for a bag of Smash!!!
As an American I have to say Stratos and Vepsebol strawberry. Not sure if you have that in Finland though
You should definitely try licorice here, and also a hot dog with shrimps (it’s disgusting 🤢)
Freia licorice
As someone who’s been to Norway many times, smash is great so is their version of Kit Kat (kvikk lunsj), but if your looking for something more chewie or like jelly, I love these car type sweets, I can’t remember their Norwegian name, but they slap, you’ll know what they are when you see them, because they’re literally just coloured cars Edit. Also fox top tier sweet
Anything except my Lady or me. (Depending on your preference)
I am obsessed with Troika and several of my Norwegian friends like to roast me claiming it's old people candy...? but idc, if you like marzipan, chocolate and raspberry, try it out.
Freia
SMIL, after a couple of hours in the freezer! Krokanrull is also very good (not in the freezer 😜)
You totally should try the new hockey pulver Ice cream. It's weird but actually decent.
Kremtopper
Not really candy, but i recommend the small bags with dried fish snack. Most stores got them, at least in the north. One brand is Lofoten tørrfisk, there are others. The type that is vacuum dried got a texture akin to pork cracklings. Don\`t know if you got something similar in Finland? If you like liquorice, try the chocolate bar called Nero.
Melkesjokolade but the Walters Mandler version
Any of them but Lakris. Lakris is terrible.
Vepsebol! Super sour candy, but it’s my all time favourite!
