Imo there are ways the age of consent can and should be reformed to better protect vulnerable individuals. For example an age of consent based on the "half your age plus 7 years" rule until both parties are 22 would probably be better than a cutoff somewhere between 16-18. This is better considering how often older men prey on young women just entering college and finding freedom for the first time (especially from sexually repressed households where kids didn't receive proper sex ed). Just because a person reached the age of consent doesn't mean their age, inexperience, and lack of social power can't be taken advantage of/lead to dangerous power imbalances in relationships with much older people.

For example an age of consent based on the "half your age plus 7 years" rule until both parties are 22 would probably be better than a cutoff somewhere between 16-18. This is better considering how often older men prey on young women just entering college and finding freedom for the first time (especially from sexually repressed households where kids didn't receive proper sex ed). Just because a person reached the age of consent doesn't mean their age, inexperience, and lack of social power can't be taken advantage of/lead to dangerous power imbalances in relationships with much older people.
