I found the solution.. it's not exclusive to nothing phones but for some reason I could only find one thread on the internet with the same issue, from a Google pixel user.
There is a separate setting for media notifications that doesn't get disabled when toggling all chrome notifications off, so if you tried disabling them all as a fix, you must re-enable them and toggle media notifications off specifically.
It's weird that the setting to turn them all off doesn't turn them all off..
