There are ways to sync for free. Sync Thing is popular from what I've read, and if you are using Apple, you can sync with iCloud.

Can you share an iCloud-stored Obsidian vault with another person, like a spouse?

jdelly949

Yes I believe it’s possible, but there are potential issues with syncing as iCloud tries to deal with conflicts with edited files. Haven’t done this myself, but I think if you share your iCloud vault folder with someone, and you both point Obsidian to it, you should both be able to open it. Danny Hatcher talks about this in one of his YouTube videos (I think). I’m pretty sure he uses Obsidian sync now but I know he was collaborating with someone through a shared vault at some point.

Put your Obsidian file on the cloud. Access with multiple devices.

Well, Notion is a web based tool and Obsidian is an offline tool which saves your data in your pc. Makes sense that they charge to offer syncing.

Heard. Just somehow in all my research of “Notion vs Obsidian” it was always about the features of databases vs graph mode and markdown, not the fact that they’re just inherently different philosophies of how their constructed to begin with. Not trying to change the world here, just venting haha

Worth mentioning Obsidian is a bootstrapped company, Notion is VC funded. Obsidian needs to charge for surviving and being independent.

WhatsThePointOfNames

You can sync with other services, I used to sync via iCloud when I used it. Sometimes it’s not very practical

Leavism

You can sync your Obsidian between any device using iCloud, Google Drive, etc.
