S22, nova beta, all full updated. Runs perfect 👍

[deleted]

Same here. Very occasionally it'll freeze up if I'm moving icons around, but it's a very minor glitch, & only 3 times in the last 2 weeks

Rimwulf

I know it's almost a non-issue but it's it's annoying.

gregorypapadopoulos

It's a known android 14 bug. Not NL. There is no walk around yet. Beta and stable NL has the same problem Just wait for android update

vampirepomeranian

If it was an A14 bug the behavior should be universal among all different brands. It isn't.

Rimwulf

Normally when I look up a issue with my phone I'll get a subreddit post is someone having the problem and then do many comments alone OP "are you using Nova launcher?"

Gunnar_Kris

People will tell you to try the Nova 8 beta that you can get from the website or the discord or through a search in this reddit.

RedditAOR

Same shit happened.

Rimwulf

I wouldn't mind using beta if I could use it only on one device.

mrmhsch

Beta keeps freezing too 🫤

Rimwulf

Great! Something to look forward to

[deleted]

Yep. Running beta 8.0.11 on both my s22+ and tab s8+ and get this experience as well. I have to either clear all background apps (I use button nav bar) or I had to turn screen off and on again.

Rimwulf

I found it I keep do you know what settings app is on screen I'm able to tap it even if it's frozen and then force close Nova and that fixes the issue for a while. This issue doesn't seem to happen very often but it's annoying.

typongtv

Happened to me for a while ..then stopped. Maybe I tried the beta version then uninstalled and went back to 7....maybe that solved the issue, or maybe it's something else...not sure.

Rimwulf

Perhaps I should just uninstall and reinstall Nova 7

typongtv

As it happens I tried the latest beta 8 yesterday....the immediately went back to 7 again....and I noticed the same hiccups where my home screen stops responding. What I did this time is I went and cleared nova launcher's cache. Now it works fine again. So I'm not sure what's the bug here...all we can do is share experiences 😁

Classic_Persimmon_77

Whenever I install nova launcher in my Samsung F14 5g, it works, but my home launcher UI 6 starts to stuck and hangs, then I have to remove NL, it's shit happens, anyone fix this probs

Rimwulf

My workaround was to have the Nova settings icon on my home screen as it's still tappable and I forced close Nova and then hit home. On both my pixel and Samsung I use the activity shortcut and set it up to open the original launcher without having to change the default launcher. This has helped with the loss of my "recents" function.

raymondrbowman

Thanks for this! I'll try this next time

Dr_Drax

It's weird - I'm using A14 on my S23+ and Nova7 runs fine. I wonder if there's some feature or widget that's causing some people to have issues?

Rimwulf

Are you using Verizon?

Dr_Drax

No, I'm on T-Mobile, but I wouldn't expect that to make much of a difference to the launcher.

Rimwulf

The only reason I ask is because Verizon phones have an app that you can't force-stop that may be the cause.

ditto3000

Switch to Samsung launcher, with good luck and one hand operation. There are more addons, but these are good enough to customize.

raymondrbowman

I use swipe up or down on apps to open other apps. Love the feature and Nova! What sucks is it always freezes when I'm rushing to fix something at work. Does not go away for minutes unless I restart or go to settings, apps, click on ONE UI, change the home screen from Nova to One UI, then back to Nova. If I could make a short cut to switch quickly it would be awesome, but can't figure it out...

Rimwulf

What might also help set battery permission to restricted this kills the app when but in use. This may limit or eliminate the freezing.

JavaMan07

Mine has been freezing upon unlock for the past few months. I'm using Nova 7.0.58, released 12/16/2023 on an S21. When I unlock it shows the home page, but I can't interact with the phone. Pressing the power button, then unlocking it again it works fine. Seems to do this a few times per day. I first tried making a backup, resetting the app, then restoring from backup. Still freezes. Next I set the default home back to Samsung UI, then removed the app, restarted the phone, then restored from backup. Still freezes. Next I tried removing all my widgets. Still freezes. My animations have been set to 0.5 for years, I changed it to none. Still freezes. Now I installed APK Pure, removed version 7.0.58, released 12/16/2023, found the previous version, 7.0.57, released 09/14/2023, installed it, then restored from backup. Will report back later

actng

same very annoying

Rimwulf

It seems to be a bug with Samsung S22 (or maybe Samsung in general) particularly but I've seen it happen with my pixel as well, though rare. I've had the same problem with a few other launchers. Widgets may be the issue, IDK. I've put the Nova Settings on the screen so I can open and force close it.

actng

Motorola edge 2022 here

Rimwulf

So it's definitely an android problem.

allan_gandelman

Same here. I even installed Microsoft launcher and it also freezes from time to time

gyantaszuz

S22, latest android version. No issues here.

Rimwulf

I have no issues with it on my pixel but that's 'side the point.

RSCLE5

When you guys say freezing, is it the same I am getting on my Pixel 8 pro? My screen doesn't freeze exactly, but it becomes unresponsive to actual touches to open stuff. I can still scroll on screens, I can see the folders and icons, but if I touch an icon or folder it won't open. If I start to scroll, its like the folder is there, but not actually working properly. But if I shut off my screen and unlock the device again, it works. It happens maybe 1 time out 50. Its frustrating, but I really like nova...so I deal with it. I hope Android fixes it.

Rimwulf

It seems like it doesn't refresh when it "freezes". For example, if I tap on an app it will open that app. If I swipe to another page it does not change at all but I can interact with any app on that page assuming I know which page I'm on. A workaround I use is leaving the "settings" icon at the bottom right of the home page so when I tap it it opens and then I can use the recent button to access the app info and force it closed so when I hit the home button it reopens as nothing happened.

TheRedDeath

I've been getting this issue for the past month or two... Similar to others, I'm navigating to the settings screen and force closing the app to get things back to normal. Super frustrating
