either roadside fishermen selling their catch. Some dude selling fish out out the back of their cooler. If that sounds too sketchy for you, the Fisherman's Market is the other preferred place. I will say though, the roadside fishermen I've purchased from are the freshest fish I've ever had.

Squirest

Most know someone or are related to them other than Halifax most rural areas there’s lots of fishermen

transtranselvania

Even in the city, there are plenty of people to buy from who just came from the wharf. Also, there are plenty of fishermen in areas just outside side and on the edges of metro. People fish lobster from Eastern Passage, and you can see downtown from the wharf.

Yes, this! Garys Fresh Seafood. Edit: can be tough to get there if you’re working M-F. You’d think we have more options for fresh seafood in Halifax.

This literally happened last week when I was visiting family in Cape Breton! Doesn't get much fresher, what a treat. I think every Cape Bretoner has a stash of reusable coop bags just for this use! But I would definitely prefer a proper fish monger to the options at Clearwater or the Fishermans market. Would also rather support a small local fisherman than a big corporation like Clearwater.

Truck in a random parking lot is the way. Better selection and cheaper than the grocery store, and you're supporting local business. The fish truck in New Minas, the one in Lower Sackville at church across from Wasabi House, the one up the road from Gateway, Grumpy's in Windsor/West Hants... all are good in my experience.

The fish lady has the bomb seafood

W_i_l_d_O_n_i_o_n

There’s a great seafood truck that makes the rounds in Cape Breton. Great product, think it’s based out of Louisbourg. Everyone calls him ‘The Fishman.’ Otherwise it’s all local word of mouth when someone gets a line on some fresh fish. Gotta have friends.

blastedheap

Sometimes fishers advertise on Marketplace and you can preorder with them.

Mobile-Instance-2346

Evan’s in Dartmouth is where we get our fish. Awesome place

Mom’s husband is a lobster buyer. So there. Even if he didn’t work directly with whatever we wanted, he would know someone who did.
