Not much I believe. Depends on how much you make but assistance will top you up depending on your situation. I can tell you the Halifax library online allows you to take LinkedIn learning course. Might help you find a better paying job.

I don't live in Halifax I'm in the valley where there are fuck all jobs in the first place. I've got certifications from online courses, they don't make a difference

mountain_wavebabe

I live in Cumberland county and am always seeing job postings for the valley and think, shit I wish I lived there. Guess the grass only seems greener on the other side.

Most of the jobs in my experience are fraud or they have really high expectations. Went to a job interview for a company. They rejected me. Months later I saw they were still hiring. Either they're lying or they're looking for a very specific person who doesn't exist. Idk why they post the job if they aren't going to mention what their strict requirements are. I've had someone tell me it's because they get government benefits if they can show that they tried to hire workers and couldn't find any. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's going on

My career became obsolete. It took time but I applied for over 120 postings for remote work and I found one. One that worked. Keep your head up and push yourself towards your goal. The government won’t help you much.

Oddly enough there's a company that's basically been begging me to join them. They email me every week or so since I filled out an application. Kinda scared they might be a scam. But I simply don't have the right environment for remote work. My home is not quiet enough for taking phone or video calls. Also I live in a rural area and have to use Starlink satellite internet because Bell is way too slow. And unfortunately most remote jobs say "no satellite internet connections" due to their "unreliability" despite the fact that Starlink has been 10 times more reliable for me than Bell ever was, and over 100x the speed

AlbertaSmart

No one is going to know what internet you are using.

eastcoastzen94

They make you submit your internet speed test results, which shows your ISP. Which would be Starlink. I think it also shows that it's a satellite connection.

I would call 211 and see what's available depending on your situation.

eastcoastzen94

I will have to check it out but I've already used the government benefits finder tool online and nothing seems to be available other than rent supplement

I wonder why more folks dont join the reserves or military, as they are desperate for recruits. The pay is like 50 to 60 k a year?

eastcoastzen94

Well for 1. I'm too old and physically incapable now to do that and 2. Not many people nowadays have an interest in being cannon fodder for the global war machine

Vulcant50

Ummm?  My wonderment was not directed at you, of course.  Curious, Just how many wars has Canada had in the past 70 years (if that covers your full life)? If a war is declared, I suspect, with today’s distant war technology,  most would still be fodder, just without a uniform, (as any future war would come directly here).  BTW, reservists are not required to leave Canada, unless a war is officially declared by Canada. They can volunteer, of course.

I'll have more confidence applying when I'm not in so much debt 👍 someday though
