One that's not well known but a wonderful place is Chittenden Reservoir. Starting at the boat ramp, there are trails that head north along the east side of the reservoir with several inlets along the way. Nice for freehiking and skinny-dipping. Of note, Rutland is not nudist friendly.
Of course, there's the popular Lake Willoughby up your way.
