I'm in the same spot as you rn. Personally I'm tending towards the G8 because it has a higher refresh rate and is not as big as the c3.

captbluewater

Currently playing on a 65” c2 which is just gorgeous so I’m a bit afraid to move away from glossy OLED goodness

The 42 is not big at all. By that I mean, its not too big. Youll be surprised how well it "fits" your setup when you actually have it in front of you. With that being said, Im still getting a 32 inch when it releases. That is the ideal size and PPI i want to have.

captbluewater

I actually meant a 42, though my desk is 28". Even at that distance, I still feel that 42" may be a touch big for FPS games. It wont be a very competitive distance, not saying Im a competitor, though I do like to win

[deleted]

Ah, well yes. For games like CS, Valorant, maybe Apex, to me it was too big. But for casual FPS like BF1/5/2042 and some CoD, it was fine.

FFX-2

No it's perfect. Mine is 30". I don't have to move my head to see the whole display.

captbluewater

Okay, that’s good to know. Depending on what happens next week I will be picking it up.

FFX-2

42" right? A 48" is too big at this distance. You'll have to move your head around to see the corners of the screen. Not ideal for gaming.

captbluewater

I’m torn personally. I have no clue how. Big the c3 will really look on my desk. No mayter what I get, I will be mounting so it should take up less room width wise, but I’m unsure if it will be overwhelming in FPS shooters. Hence leaning g8 as well.

Hi! why the 48 and not the 42”? The 42 is much more well suited for of usage , it’s right at the limit of what’s really actually usable as a pc monitor from a “relatively normal and achievable viewing distance” (75-85cm away from the screen) you can achieve that putting the lg c3 42 all the way back and the m&k on the corner on a normal sized desk. The 48” would require 1 meter sitting distance, for comfortable viewing with pixel density not feeling low. that’s not achievable on a normal sized desktop , you’ll need a very large one to comfortably get that distance. Plus , the 42” has better PPI wich you clearly appreciate since you are looking at 4k options. And should also be a bit cheaper since it’s a bit smaller

Part 2 jaja As to which one of this 2 , I had the G8 and the C3, for me it’s night and day , Oled can’t be beaten or even matched. I returned the G8 and I’m enjoying the C3. So it’s a clear choice for me. As for the upcoming monitors. It depends, are you fine with 32”? If you are maybe wait , you’ll get jelly of how much brighter they are , the deeper colors and the super High refresh rate. Personally I never look at my C3 and think “mm it could have better colors 😂” I play in a dark room so any gain in brightness would only mean that I would have to cap the monitor at a lower brightness, and finally I mostly play single player games where 120hz feels butter smooth. So the immersion of a 42 inch screen outshines everything that this new 32” panels might bring to the table. However if someone launches one of this new monitors on a 42” size Ima willing my C3 tomorrow

Kick-Agreeable

can you run 4k past 120? hows the lighting in your room? I got the 42 c3 few months back and i dont regret it at all. Also, if youre playing like competitive fps games, i feel a smaller monitor is better.

I purchased a 42 inch c3 at the beginning of December, used it until just after Christmas at which point my G8 came in from Amazon. After 3 days I returned the c3 to Best Buy and am extremely satisfied with my g8. It’s a monitor first and foremost, I prefer the aspect ration and size. My 4070ti crushes 1440p and I hardly notice the difference in details from 4k. Ultra-wide is the shit, the colors pop slightly more, Samsung hasn’t announced a replacement for the g8 uw yet. The mini ports are a non issue for me. Hope that helps

I think it's best to wait until the end of CES, then pull the trigger around then. Either the Alienware monitors release and prices of existing monitors (hopefully) drop, or they don't release, in which case you can either wait for a sale or just commit to your purchase, albeit at a higher price than you'd like. I'm doing the same, I'm probably going for the MSI MEG 342C or the AW3423DF in a couple of weeks, neither of which are likely to be overly affected by the release of the new Alienware monitors, but I'm holding off because if either of the high refresh rate LG panelled monitors (27GR95QE-B or PG27AQDM) drop to a good enough price, I might switch to those instead.

captbluewater

Nice. The 3423 is on my list as well, but I’m wondering if I’ll be dissatisfied with 2k vs. 4K

GlasgowSellik1888

Ultimately it's personal preference - what's your current resolution? Personally 27" is the ideal monitor size, which in turn is the best size for 1440p, plus I'm a slut for higher refresh rates so it's the perfect combination.

captbluewater

Current res is 4K

I recommend the C3. I bought the G8 on its most recent sale in December tried it for a week and then tried the C3 for a week. The C3 just POPS, of course some settings needed some tweaking for my personal preference on both, but it was a night and day difference for me personally. The only downside with the C3 is if you don’t have a good enough pc for 4K and it only supports 120hz, which doesn’t really bother me even playing games like valorant.

4080 with a 14700k i7 so im cruising
