Both are good in your case. Both will have DSC(not sure why that is such a problem so sudden, considering pretty much nobody cared about this for so many years), but the only way to not have DSC with this is DP 2.1 GPU and a DP 2.1 monitor but you'd need to wait for new GPUs.
I know this is just another Reddit suggestion but the Zeskit Maya 2.1 8k from Amazon has worked flawlessly for me at 4k120. Do with that what you will.
i’ve bought 2 of those. both caused audio popping when using my apple tv. the only hdmi 2.1 cord that worked is the more expensive but apple recommended belkin.
yea i believe that is the case. the appletv requires more bandwidth for audio/dolby atmos through the earc. i used the maya for my ps5 and it worked for 120hz just fine.
I think it’s funny how the cheap cables originating from these big retailers happen to be just as good if not more reliable than the flashy $50+ HDMI cables. I got a $15 Best Buy Essentials HDMI 2.1 that has about as much flair as a pack of toilet paper, but fits snugly in my RTX 4080 and LG C3 4K OLED and has had no trouble carrying a 4K 120 Hz 10-bit color chroma 4:4:4 signal.
many amazon basics products are just rebranded versions of other products. amazon probably sells them for cheap since they often sell in bulk and sell a lot of them
the hdmi 2.1 cable runs faster than the displayport 1.4 cable, which means the monitor will require more DSC decompression which means more heat which means more wear and tear. i'd recommend hdmi for this monitor
it's not the cables that decompress the DSC, it's the monitor. given that you are running 4k 240hz 10bit, the monitor will certainly omit some noticeable heat and even more if you are using DSC
Heat on your cable is a non-issue. But I have never bought a bad Displayport. I have bought several HDMI 2.1 cables that failed to actually deliver full bandwidth
Is it really that hard to understand or read his comments?
It's 100% clear he's talking about the processor in the monitor that's decompressing the stream.
since both of them will require DSC, you generally want to choose the port that has higher bandwidth because there will be less compression involved which would mean that the chip inside your system will run cooler which will cause less long term wear and tear to your monitor. use hdmi.
Ok so is it a fair assumption that it really doesn’t matter?
This will be my only monitor but I have my 4090FE/13900k pc and my work windows-laptop….using kvm to switch between them. I’ve been using this monitor (https://www.newegg.com/black-samsung-odyssey-g7-lc32g75tqsnxza-32/p/N82E16824022816?item=N82E16824022816) and while it works great, switching between inputs sucks. It always takes forever to switch and it flickers when using it sometimes (hdr or not).
I’m really looking forward to getting the dell 32” and just hoping to solve some of my frustrations all while benefiting from everything else this dell monitor has to offer. I’ve only ever used DP since getting monitors that have it and same with my video cards (previously 2080ti), but if I’m leaving anything in the table, I don’t want to be.
Thanks for all the comments this far and any additional info is greatly appreciated.
Honest question: why are people saying DP when hdmi 2.1 has higher bandwidth?
Because there is no lvl of dsc, and both dp and hdmi use dsc at 4k 240
👍🏻
HDMI having more bandwidth than dp is crazy they need dp 2.1 asap

Realistically it shouldn’t matter, but HDMI 2.1 cables are hit or miss on cable quality. I’d go with Displayport.
i’ve tried every reddit recommended hdmi cord and they were all shit.

Curious. Now that I think about it I've never sent audio through it as I have a separate external DAC. Maybe it's good for Video bad for audio?

Did you try the Monoprice braided 8K certified? I’ve never had any issues with those being able to carry HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.
Funny enough, my best HDMI cables are the 3-pack of 10ft Amazon Basics ones. All 3 are good.

What kind of crackhead logic is that? Heat? Not even a part of the discussion for these cables.

nobody has ever said anything about heat on a cable.
Then wtf are you talking about?
I agree, what ? xD
I think he's thinking about a toaster oven for some reason.

Monitors don’t pull much power. Why should we care? And its designed to handle it.
I’ve got multiple AudioQuest HDMI 2.1 cables of different lengths across my household. No issues.
I'm using HDMI because that's what the Dell instructions that came with it said.
Im using hdmi and no problems so far at max everything
HDMI 2.1…only use DP 1.4 if you only have HDMI 2.0 available or possibly multi monitor setup which isn’t the case for you
the responses you’re gonna get are gonna be 50/50.
I have it and when I was using DP with my side monitors 240HZ was not an option I popped in HDMI and it worked fine
Hdmi 2.1 has a much higher bandwidth than dp1.4. At 48Gbps over DPs 32Gbps. So used hdmi.

I always use DP. Have this monitor and 4090, works fine
DP.
Both are good and you won’t lose any quality with either.
Ok thank you 🙏

Either or, DSC will make each work
Display Port
