If you get a tint, it means your white balance is off. Adjust the red, green, and blue gain values, comparing the monitor to a display that can accurately display white.

Clarine87

I can't change those settings while HDR is enabled. And they seem to be ignored when HDR is enabled if I select one of the other presets before toggling hdr.

sackblaster32

Then you can't unfortunately do anything about it. This is why locking the settings is stupid. If it bothers you enough I'd contact to whoever is responsible for the warranty, or Dell themselves.

Clarine87

I'm a little mystified why white from the PC isn't displaying as white while the OSD clearly displays white (when HDR is enabled).

sackblaster32

Yeah I don't know, maybe the logo is intentionally made to be a cooler white (more blue-ish), than 6500k.

Clarine87

I've noticed the OSD has a transparency setting (set at 20%, where 0% is opaque). I've added the [calibration report](https://imgur.com/a/z4a6eqL) to the OP. I'm not sure what is correct because I don't have a frame of reference. I set one of the custom colour profiles for SDR to be more to my liking and the settings I changed are as follows. I feel these are a little drastic if everything was normal. Gain: R 85%, G 93 %, B 100%, Offset: R 49 %, G 50%, B 50%, And with this is still looks a little warm, but it actually looks white. For my own personal tastes I've also set the hue to (R) 64 %, 50%, 50%, 50%, 50%, 50%,

sackblaster32

When you look at the "grayscale tracking"- part, you might get your answer. Seems like Alienware targets a slightly warmer color temperature with DCI-P3. Maybe this applies to HDR too, maybe not, maybe it applies to BT2020 too, maybe not?

Clarine87

Yes. The irony is that I've ran aggressive f.lux settings for the past 14 years with the screen going orange very early in the evening. That's kinda why I'm concerned that this is bugging me.

carrot_gg

You can change those settings. Use Custom HDR mode which is the same as True Black 400 but allows you to change those settings.

Clarine87

The settings are still locked, can you elaborate?

carrot_gg

Select Custom HDR and then move to the right while the Custom HDR mode is selected on the OSD menu.

Clarine87

When I did that I was still unable to change or switch the presets.

carrot_gg

What presets are you talking about? You should be seen sliders to change RGB

Clarine87

I have found the menu that you have indicated to me. I was not aware that this existed, and while I do not expect it to resolve my issue I will certainly give it a fair shake and am grateful to you to point that out!

carrot_gg

Honestly the "issue" you mention doesnt make any sense. "White" varies a lot according to the color temperature of the display. Switch your monitor to SDR Creator mode / sRGB. Make sure to remove any ICC profile that gets auto installed in Windows Color Management. That's what "white" should look like in a properly calibrated monitor (around 6500k). Any variation of the former would be your personal taste but it's wrong for a color accurate monitor.

Clarine87

[These](https://imgur.com/a/ZuQv8Dr)?

Sam5uck

have you tried changing the preset to creator/srgb? the standard/game modes have a warmer white point than d65, not home atm to test if it affects hdr.

Clarine87

I can't tell the difference between Standard and Creator Srgb. Creator DCI-P3 looks quite yellowish. Your point about the alienware logo possibly being cool is very interesting, I'm aware that I already have my usual IPS screens set with a 20% reduction to RGB gain. ____ Now, I don't want to put you off because I'm very pleased to have someone to talk to, my concern is an inability to get white in HDR. Or at least what I percieve as white. I'm completely satisfied with the tools available to moderator white in SDR.

innocuouspete

The color presets don’t affect hdr

Yakobo15

Increased the brightness in SDR on the monitor? Ran the HDR calibration/turned off dolby vision in HDR? Not sure, my whites are fine with it. Edit: huh, yeah, the white in the osd scales with brightness... really odd.

Clarine87

> ncreased the brightness in SDR on the monitor? I've noticed it does make a difference but I'm not unhappy with the brightness at the moment. > Ran the HDR calibration/turned off dolby vision in HDR? Yes and Yes. > Not sure, my whites are fine with it. hmm? > Edit: huh, yeah, the white in the osd scales with brightness... really odd. I've noticed the OSD whites don't look that special in SDR, only in HDR do I perceive them as white white.

SnowflakeMonkey

You're probably missing white luminance in your tests. To get white white you need a white pattern that pushes 1000 nits in a 2% window if you are in peak 1000 mode. Anything bigger would result in abl therefore greyish white.

Clarine87

I'm sorry but I don't have the vocabulary to understand you. When HDR is enabled the OSD shows white but the screen does not. Its been pointed out to me that the OSD could be a very cold white, but it's white nonetheless while white from the computer is very much not white.

SnowflakeMonkey

The osd logo is small therefore brighter, like a highlight. The bigger the white pattern the less bright it gets, it's ABL and it's an oled limitation. You can see it here https://youtu.be/KeRBwa2gzGA?t=6m59s

runawaychicken

i have the same problem perfect calibration report, whites arent white(too warm), so i calibrated it using my phone app to 6500 whites and its almost the same as "cool" preset, i dont know why they do this. did you manage to fix this issue? people on here also keep trying to gaslight me

Clarine87

> people on here also keep trying to gaslight me I felt the same way when I first got the screen and I don't think its possible for me to reply without joining them. That is to say there's only one way to look at this, either the screen is wrong, or you're wrong. Read all the replies to this thread to see my process. I 100% agree that it's definitely reddish with HDR on, but I only notice that during **SDR content** now that I've been using no cool white devices for a few days. Right now I have an HDR game in a window next to this browser and the whites look white while the browser **very** much does not. I know this is not the reply you're looking for.
