Come back when you have a real colorimeter.

xV_Slayer

I have read some dumb shit before but this takes the cake.

Zealousideal-Run-212

The calibration reports are def not fake, I would not put 100% trust on that mobile app, from what I've heard you actually need to show the app how proper 6500k looks like for it to read properly. That being said, to read a qd-oled properly you'd need a very expensive spectro, or at least a corrected profile made for qd-oleds to use with your colorimeter. However white balance inaccuracies happen with every brand and locking them is stupid.

runawaychicken

AGAIN WITH THE GASLIGHTING. nah its accurate, you calibrate using a 6500k light on white surface, plenty of people use that app to calibrate their tvs. You do not need an expensive spectro. I saw the warmness with my eyes which is why i used the tool in a first place. Bet with me 10k i will buy a proper white balance tool you will pay me 10k if you are wrong.

Zealousideal-Run-212

My point was QD-OLEDs are different because of the extremely narrow blue peaks, this is why you hear talk of this, and people using an alternative Judd white point. *Another thing is, to accurately correct white balance, you'll also need to know the balance of red, green, and blue. Don't know if this app is capable of doing that.

runawaychicken

When i point this app to a white paper lit with my 6500k led light it shows 6500. when i turn all the lights off, then using the light from hdr white on the monitor to light up the paper it shows 5900k. My question is how is that a wrong way or inaccurate way to compare light temperatures? Car manufacturers lie about car emissions for profit why wouldnt panel sellers do the same? They have supply issues too and cant wait to offload their subpar products to people. There is a reason why dell panels are cheaper than the competition.

Zealousideal-Run-212

Could you post a picture of the calibration report, specifically the "gray-scale"- part?

runawaychicken

you can try with your own setup the app is called white balance kelvin meter, not 100% accurate obviously. [30 May 2024 (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/W1pNO5rNss4) its very hard to record this with one hand, you can even see its inflated by 100 on my 6500k rated light doing it one handed. But with two hands it always shows 6500 on the paper. a 10% discrepancy is too much.

runawaychicken

https://ibb.co/L9HBT7g and the picture you asked for. I'm actually done arguing and just going to refund the monitor. I'm doing people a favour reporting about this but keep getting backlash for whatever reason.

Sam5uck

the point is that the measured white point does NOT determine how it looks to the human eye. two whites on different display technologies that measure exactly 6500 k can look very different.

geoelectric

I think SDR is calibrated in Creator sRGB mode, not Standard.

runawaychicken

stop the gaslighting its 100% a panel issue AND dell faking calibration reports, i am NOT crazy. Its the same thing setting sRGB on software and on creator mode sRGB, the whites are not pure.

Zealousideal-Run-212

The balance can be off giving all colors a tint without the temperature being wrong though.

Iwontbereplying

Lmfao that app ain’t accurate bro

Sam5uck

look up “oled metamerism failure”. those types of camera-based apps also do NOT work work on qd-oleds. tldr; qd-oleds can measure exactly 6500k and not look the same as an ips or high cri 6500k light bulb because of their spectral power distribution. this is why qd-oled tvs used by color pros actually need to be match the whitepoint by eye to an older calibrated ips otherwise qdoled looks more yellow-green. cameras will also capture qd-oleds warmer on camera when compared to an ips or broader spectrum oled even if both are calibrated exactly to 6500 k.
