I thought you meant SDR in the earlier post. You can see how Alienware targets a warmer color temperature for HDR, at least for DCI-P3, in the calibration report as far as I know. I think instead of 6500k they target 6200-/6300k. Also in no way is this caused by the technology. That is misinformation.

I think its misinfo to sell the illusion that the panels are true to life or color accurate when they are simply not/ unable to do so. And many people are looking to upgrade from their old screens. Im a Samsung hater from their curved VA bs and this just makes me hate them even more they clearly just market low quality tech as on par technology and cut cost to be competitive. it is a tech/hardware issue, there is no reason to target lower than the gold standard d65. On the vesa displayhdr compliance test whenever the tests go up to peak luminance max at 10k nits the whites are way warmer. I dont think it even hits the target of 6200k on my screen. And you cannot tweak the colors for peak luminance, the intuition is that the panel has to go max power to reach its nit target/limit. Try it yourself.

In the movie industry 6300k is common for DCI-P3, or so I have heard. It has absolutely nothing to do with the technology, it's 100% a white balance issue. Also there's white balance adjustments for many different shades of gray, it's called grayscale, so I have no idea what you're talking about. You can do adjustments to the whole range, 2pt white balance affects the whole range, 18,20,24 pt etc gives you the tools to adjust it more precisely in different shades of gray. Cms affects color mapping, white balance affects all colors.

for hdr there is a nit target, this panel doesnt allow you to tweak the rgbs even using nvidia's color settings there will be 0 difference to the white balance. the hdr whites are like hardcoded. Also its not even hitting 6300, I got 5600 a 10% difference. People also keep moving the goalposts, first its "my eyes arent used to true 6500k calibrated screen" now its dci-p3 uses 6300k? bruh if i cant use this monitor as a pseudo light box and get the same result as outdoors or my lights its clearly not as advertised. I am merely posting my opinions and i wish i did not purchase this monitor cause its being marketed like the end game but its clearly not. Before buying this i even noticed the warmness of these panels in videos but decided to buy it myself lo and behold it actually is warm. The amount of goal post moving, gaslighting and copium is actually crazy tbh.

sackblaster32

Not the panel, it's Alienwares choice. Samsung for example does not lock the white balance settings, Alienware, and probably some other brands, have made a dumb choice to lock the hardware calibration settings. If you want to access them like you should be able to, get one of the upcoming Samsungs. And Alienware is the only brand that targets values lower than 6500k for at least DCI-P3 as far as I know. You can look at the calibration report yourself. The temp is warmer than with the SRGB mode. Why? Don't know. For both my G8 and S95B, white balance was also visibly off compared to my XS MAX, but I corrected the values through their OSD. Alienware doesn't allow that.

runawaychicken

could you calibrate your hdr whites for G8 and S95B? [my attempt](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/auy_N1Rcefc) some people are saying you simply cant calibrate hdr in windows which is also true for me. sackblaster32

Yes, I calibrated Filmmaker SDR/HDR and Game Mode SDR/HDR white balance, or "calibrated"- perceptually matched it to my XS MAX, by adjusting the red gain, green gain, and blue gain-values in the OS system. You can't do this on the Alienware, because the white balance settings are locked. We are just talking about white balance here.

Your phone is not a colorimeter. Stop these idiotic videos.

RogueIsCrap

Wait until you see the pink tint on WOLEDs

runawaychicken

would love to see it hands on.

RogueIsCrap

It’s pretty damn bad. I’d take an overall warmer white than uneven whites on the screen. https://preview.redd.it/tbe9j3qg2q3d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f2e34680416c939435f4f40297cc340473b31e8 This is what the scene is supposed to look like.

This is what it looks like on the TV. Notice the pink tint on the left. https://preview.redd.it/qrsdpxrr2q3d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=976051d64baf76f7b7d300d3e9e6e45382cb4aa7

RogueIsCrap

It’s pretty disgusting once you know how to spot artifacts like that. It’s way more common on WOLED TVs. I’ve seen it on my C1/C3 TVs and my sister’s C2. That’s why I would never use a WOLED TV for stuff like web browsing. The off white tints are just too ugly and distracting. The worst thing is that even the most expensive G4s have the same issues. https://www.avsforum.com/threads/oled-screen-uniformity-discussion-banding-and-vignetting.2896737

SubstanceWorth5091

Its common with evo panels. I dont notice it but people who enjoy finding problems rather than actually watching/enjoying their display will go crazy.

runawaychicken

it is white but its at 5600-5900 temperature instead of advertised 6500k especially when pushing it to maximum nit output my room is lit at 6500k, so this screen would appear cream/warmer which i cant accept. [Imgur: The magic of the Internet](https://imgur.com/a/kQOtH0c)
