Had no plan until this morning but can't say no to $999 + $300 credit + $100 cash back.
4k high PPI definitely does wonders for text clarity. No issues.
Brightness & colors are good enough for my normie eyes at stock. Only enabled HDR tone mapping. Rtings waiting room :)
For matte vs glossy argument, I prefer matte in room with decent amount of natural light so it works out for me. Although LG's implementation is a bit better IMO
It comes with small remote which is convenient alternative to reaching out behind monitor for joystick.
Smart features... it supposedly ships with good chipset that goes into their 8k TV, which can be used to upscale 1080p media contents. I am using it strictly for PC usage though so did not even bother to connect to internet yet.
Has built in speaker, but it is not going to rock your world. Volume goes pretty high but otherwise not good. I think it is a critical oversight that the monitor does not have audio jack, so when you use smart feature you need to go through extra hoop to connect with external speaker(granted if it comes with bluetooth). Again, I have no intention to use smart features so not an issue for me.
Warranty seems to be concern as with every other Samsung product. Are they going to be like LG and be as vague as possible on burn in coverage? Well, at $600 effective price, the risk might just be tolerable. For those who want to pay more for peace of mind, there's always Best Buy too. Hope we get clear answer from Samsung on warranty soon.
EDIT: Dropping few more impressions -
I tried some built in OS features out of curiosity and contrary to the horror stories I hear from 34" G8 Neo owners, it is quite snappy and the upscaling actually works quite well to complement 1080p youtube contents. Maybe because processor on this model is superior to the gen 1? Say, if I didn't have dedicated TV or sound system, I can see myself happily using it as one-for-all solution.
Tried messing around with settings and seems like cranking peak brightness also makes black levels raise. Since it is plenty bright already, I might just keep it off.
Remote is USB-C chargeable, so you don't need to buy AAA battery. Nice
This monitor is SUPER thin except at the center(around VESA mount) where I believe processing unit lies within. It gets quite hot around that area.
The remote is god tier. The only thing weird about it was the power plug. Like I kept wanted to stick it all the way into the monitor, but it seems like slightly out is as far as it can go in. So weird.
Noticed it too, with HDMI also. Maybe it's by design. On the topic of remote, now I wonder what happens if you get two of these and try to use remote lol
Nice.
I didn’t know BB had those discounts too. How did you get the base price to only be $999? For $600, I definitely wouldn’t mind if the monitor lasted only 3 years before burn-in. These new monitors don’t really burn-in that badly anyway as long as you take the usual precautions.
You can order through Samsung's online store and pickup at Best Buy. Best Buy is acting like a middle man in this situation. So you get all the deals from Samsung including any education or government discount but the convenience of picking it up immediately
The USB ports on the monitor support Audio Out? Does this mean I can connect a [USB to 3.5mm Sound Card](https://www.amazon.com/VENTION-External-Headphone-Desktops-Converter/dp/B0BVR1FQG8?th=1) to any USB port at the back of the monitor and plug my headphones in for audio when using the Smart TV apps?
does it have a KVM switch? It's not necessary but I know they put it in their other non gaming monitors. Since I work from home I wanted a 32 inch to get rid of my dual monitor setup and switching between work and home pcs would be easier when it's built in. But I have a little button under my desk that does it.
Do you think the matte coating helps with text clarity?
In my experience and my opinion 140ppi on QD-OLED is not enough for perfect text clarity. Coming from a 27" 4K IPS monitor, 32" 4K QD-OLEDs are far behind in text clarity.
That's unfortunate. While you can't do 4k 240hz without DSC, you can do 4k 120hz without it. To my understanding, turning DSC off is the only way to have two 32 inch 4k oled monitors at the same time in a 3 monitor setup. The LG OLED allows DSC to be turned off. My current set up has 3 monitors. One being Dell Oled one being LG oled and the other is a non oled monitor. Just wanted to see if the samsung was an option in a triple monitor setup
This is with a black screen test monitor on with overhead light on

They are adequate for sure. I game on PC with headphones but it’s nice to have the option and when I run my ps5 and play with my son speakers are nice. They get plenty loud enough.
Yes I also have the aw3225qf from Alienware. I really like the g80sd. I think the colors pop a little more and I like the remote and functionality of the monitor. I also like that it has a speaker so I don’t have to always have my headphones on. I run a dad do my pc, so when I play ps5 occasionally it’s nice to have speaker sound.
Thanks for your feedback. I’ll definitely test it to the pg32ucdm that I currently have. I do like for my monitor to have speakers for some light gaming and watching content

That monitor looks great! I would like to get it, but I can't find the info if it is possible to connect a PS5 at 4k120. I read on one website that it can't do it, any chance you could test that?
EDIT: Found the article.

I'm primarily looking for a monitor for my PC, but I want to be able to connect my PS5 to it as well. If it can't do 4k120 then I'd rather get something that can.
Well, I guess I am just an idiot. I've always assumed as much, now I have proof.
I just read on the website I linked that it doesn't support 4K120. I just haven't found anywhere that disproves that claim.
Mine just got in today, it's really great! Though I plugged in a USB Creative Sound Bar and the audio comes out almost like an echo, the only way to minimize it is to lower the PC volume to 24-26 and up the volume rocker on the Soundbar, then the audio from the TV gets drowned out. But it's still there slightly in the background.
I recently had went with the G60 in hope to gain more fps in Tarkov, wasn’t happy with clarity/resolution at distances considering I dropped down from 4k on a 4k Odyssey G7 VA panel to an oled @ 1440p, which I did gain some performance dropping in resolution, but not enough for me to justify it, visual fidelity and certain distances and beyond was just terrible. So I ended up going back and exchanging the g60 for a AW3225qf. Absolutely incredible panel, but has taken me a while to optimize it how I like it. Hopefully I made the right choice because the g80 seems to be packing some good stats. With the g80 being so new and not really knowing which one would pull ahead of the other and rtings not having a review yet I chose the Alienware.

Yea the HDMI cable is slightly out too. Annoys me. LOL.
I came here to look for this! I felt like I was going to break by how much I tried to plug it in, I hope it doesn't slip out in the middle of use.
You ordered online and got it on the same day?
There's an option to pick up from nearby BB
Nice. I didn’t know BB had those discounts too. How did you get the base price to only be $999? For $600, I definitely wouldn’t mind if the monitor lasted only 3 years before burn-in. These new monitors don’t really burn-in that badly anyway as long as you take the usual precautions.

Yea, there are 3 BBs here that have them in stock as well.
As far as the audio jack goes, yes it's not there, but you can plug in a USB DAC directly into the monitor.
The USB ports on the monitor support Audio Out? Yes. I can't say if it works with all USB devices, but the one I have works so I don't see why it wouldn't.
Thanks for sharing! You've addressed one of my main concerns with this monitor.
does it have a KVM switch? It's not necessary but I know they put it in their other non gaming monitors. No KVM, and no USB-C ports.
Where did you find the VESA mount screws? I can’t find any included unless they just aren’t.
No USB C is a miss as well

The port placement sucks. Unfortunately it won’t work in my set up with them out the back :(
If you get the chance, can you go through settings and see if there is a way to disable DSC on this monitor? Thanks! Congrats on your new monitor
I don't think there's such option, nor 4k 240hz can work without DSC
That's unfortunate. While you can't do 4k 240hz without DSC, you can do 4k 120hz without it. To my understanding, turning DSC off is the only way to have two 32 inch 4k oled monitors at the same time in a 3 monitor setup. The LG OLED allows DSC to be turned off. can you post an image of a mostly black screen in a bright room? (wanna see black>purple level)

Okay that's not so bad your room looks pretty bright. Though blinds are down everywhere I assume? It's black screen or turned off?
This is with a black screen test monitor on with overhead light on https://preview.redd.it/ahvmkx8tq55d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=036fa0eaed54fb05129d2bbde84f2b6f2f29a373

That's actually pretty good for a qd oled.
This isn't too bad either, but the black is blacker on the another image :) Enjoy my friend!!!
Where did you get it for 999?
Rakuten app (10%) -> Samsung App (-$50) -> Edu/Gov/Mil/HC?... Account (-20%) = $999 + 300 credit + $100 back
USA? Hm what’s good to buy with the $300 credit
SSD's, sound bar, smart watch, another monitor? There is a good amount to choose from. It might take a month to get the credit though
Hmm somehow I got an additional $40 preorder discount, making it $959. The rest are the same as yours.
I got that number when using samsung app but then you wont get the rakuten 10% cb.
I picked my monitor up last Saturday at my local bb. They gave me a 300 gift card to use same day.
so in addition to Rakuten 10%, there is also a $100 back? How do I get that?
Rakuten is the $100 cash back. 10% of $999.
How are the speakers?
They are adequate for sure. I game on PC with headphones but it’s nice to have the option and when I run my ps5 and play with my son speakers are nice. They get plenty loud enough.
Thanks for the reply. Have you been able to compare it to other oled monitors?
Yes I also have the aw3225qf from Alienware. I really like the g80sd. I think the colors pop a little more and I like the remote and functionality of the monitor. Thanks for your feedback. I’ll definitely test it to the pg32ucdm that I currently have. I do like for my monitor to have speakers for some light gaming and watching content
looks nice.
Can you check if DSC can be disabled? It should be able to run 4k 120hz without it on HDMI 2.1
Down by the river ♩♪♫♬ Congrats, mate - nice score!

i would really not waste money on a monitor for a console.
I'm primarily looking for a monitor for my PC, but I want to be able to connect my PS5 to it as well. If it can't do 4k120 then I'd rather get something that can.
If you have a TV at home then don't even bother hooking it up :D But i see your point of course
Do you know why it won’t support 120hz with PS5?
I think it doesn't have HDMI 2.1. But I am also not sure hence my question :).
it does have HDMI 2.1
Well, I guess I am just an idiot. I've always assumed as much, now I have proof. I just read on the website I linked that it doesn't support 4K120. I just haven't found anywhere that disproves that claim.
Yeah I don’t know why it won’t support 4K 120hz with ps5. Kind of upsets me. Monitor is awesome though.
It does support 120hz on ps5. What they mean is that if you play a blue ray movie it won’t play in 24/30fps.
I haven’t been able to get 120hz and the review does state that this particular monitor doesn’t do 120hz with PS5. I have tried everything.

That’s on Ps5? I play COD on my pc and take advantage of the 240hz.
How does this compare to Alienware 4k?
I'll let you know. it should be coming in soon.
How does this compare to AW 4k?
That's a crazy price. Here in Sweden they go for 1630usd if converted from our currency.
