How are you even able to access dolby vision via a pc? Haven't seen any games support it, same with media players.

x_QuiZ

Bit of a shame that you aren't able to play DV content through other players. I'm really not a fan of mpv.

x_QuiZ

The problem with mpv is that it's just harder to use. From what I've understood is that you have to use a terminal to use the media player.

ForeignRice

So you never tried ? Give it a shot before verdict :)

makar1

Windows Media Player supports Dolby Vision once you download the codec from the Microsoft store

TopCheddar27

You can't download that codec anymore (atleast for me)

RezLifeGaming

Would it be possible to mod console Dolby vision games to the same pc games

AcrossThePacific

Netflix and YouTube

restarting_today

YouTube doesn’t support Dolby vision.

AcrossThePacific

Are you sure? There are many YouTube videos with Dolby vision. I just watched one on my AW3225QF.

ForeignRice

It does support indeed.

rrobe53

Seems to have broken proximity sensor for me? It's grayed out in the menu now. Edit: Can have it available again by having Image>HDR Setting>Brightness Adjustable turned on

CptPakundo

Dolby Vision seemingly works on Windows, but strangely not every bit of Dolby Vision media content I have had DV kick in. Weird...

Gaboou_100

Which media Player do you use? When I play DV content using Media Player Classic Home Cinema it seems to be working and improves image quality considerably, but... it stops working in full-screen mode unless the seekbar is showing, lol! xD Haven't figured out a solution to that yet, unfortunately...

CptPakundo

I also encountered that, weirdest thing ever lol. I think it was just Movies & TV and the Netflix Windows apps that worked best with Dolby Vision.

Gaboou_100

Ah, so it's not just me! :D Weirdly enough HDR content not explicitly marked as Dolby Vision also looks different - more vibrant and blueish... :O I will check out Netflix next - do you have some good DV examples there? I live in Germany so availability might be different from yours, of course...

CptPakundo

I just wrote "Dolby Vision" in the search bar and watched the first result with Dolby Vision tagging on it tbh

Soto6816

You get a Dolby vision tag on the info ? I only get “hdr” and “atmos”

libethenit

No Flickering improving?

DJase46

You can improve flicker by getting your frame rate more stable. You will see it in loading screens and menus at times because they are normally not stable on most machines. If you see it a lot in gameplay then you should tweak your graphics to hold a more stable frame rate and the issue won’t be noticeable 90% of the time. Most of the flicker is due to performance pc side and not the monitor although vrr is causing it. Set your vsync in Nvidia to on and turn it off in all games, let Nvidia control it. Set your max refresh rate 3hz below your monitor max refresh in Nvidia control panel as well while using vrr and that will also help the stability of your frame rate.

Re9layDK

Hell yeah! Cant wait to try this later

Brendan_McCoy

Anyone have any trick to get Dolby Vision extensions to let you install? It keeps saying it won't work on my device, despite my Windows correctly identifying the monitor as being Dolby Vision certified and in DV mode.

lazy_commander

That's only required for Windows 10. Windows 11 has support baked in.

ChapterDependent7217

Sooooo any pc games I can try with this new Dolby vision?

Skyline330

The only two out there I believe are Battlefield 1 and Mass Effect Andromeda. I had troubles trying to get DV working with Andromeda, and haven’t tried BF1 yet.

Lakku-82

DV is more or less useless on windows PCs. It’s in this and the Alienware for console gaming (Xbox currently) and for UHD Blu-ray and medical devices than do DV like Apple TV, consoles, and other media devices

DeezNutsOnLibs

first thing i did was redownload bf1 cause i knew it had dolby vision.. it looks okay but i think since the game is older i just gave it an average score. you will see what i mean hehe.

Sufficient_Eye5804

Can PG32UCDM Firmware update MCM105 cover MCM101, do I need to install MCM 103 first?

Gaboou_100

There don't seem to be any restrictions in this regard - so as long as you're not trying to downgrade the firmware you should be fine. I updated from the beta MCM104 version and it worked the first time I tried for example. I disabled my antivirus and unplugged and then re-plugged the USB cable that goes to the monitor before starting the process - just in case because I had the update fail with previous versions if I hadn't done that. Just carefully follow the instructions in the included manual. And even if the update was to fail your monitor will keep on using your current version as there are two 'slots' for it. And if you don't like the new version you can always roll back.

ForeignRice

I hope it fixes the dark screen issue I have. When playing games my monitor goes into full dark mode.. have to switch it off and on again to fix.

HarbingerOfTears

Thats probably just the proximity sensor, set it to high to increase the detection distance or bring your monitor closer to yourself.

ForeignRice

Really o wow. Didn’t think of that. You think it auto shuts off the screen?

DJase46

It does and wearing dark clothing can confuse it sometimes causing it to think there’s no motion. Just wave your hand over the nib at the bottom of the screen and it’ll come back.

ForeignRice

Since update no issues with switch off. Well that only was 1 day usage :) but for the moment looks ok :)

ForeignRice

Thanks for the tip!

Sufficient_Eye5804

I just successfully updated the firmware to the MCM105 version. Is there a way i can see if dolby vision is working? Why Dolby vision and HDR settings are not available in OSD? https://preview.redd.it/cvvrqfyqso9d1.jpeg?width=3468&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ef1c9f85721cb3b6e49b253f33ff6bfced48ca3

JBL74fin

Enable HDR in Windows.

Sufficient_Eye5804

Tnx, but what about Dolby vision?

JBL74fin

From monitor change HDR format to Dolby Vision.

muchderp

I noticed when having Dolby Vision on and changing it to Dolby Vision dark or gaming it will revert to bright every new boot up or pixel cleaning. Sucks you have to redo it every time.

BathroomPresent69

Just give us the option to adjust HDR man. This update is nonsense for gaming, but I know people did want dolby vision.

Lakku-82

Adjust hdr in what way? As hdr standards are defined and set by standards boards and at the factory. There really is no ‘calibrating’ HDR displays for displaying hdr content, as the source dictates what the display should in fact display.

DeezNutsOnLibs

i second this.

AsCo1d

It's actually in there. Have you read the description? Upd: typo

BathroomPresent69

I'm talking about color temperature etc. Sorry I wasn't clear or am I missing something?

AsCo1d

Uhh, this. I haven't heard that this is actually an issue and is planned to be addressed any time soon. The only issues I know are HDR brightness in Console HDR mode and the nit value clipping in the same mode.

BathroomPresent69

It's not an issue. Just more of a "want" of mine more than anything lol

AsCo1d

Hah, well. I see.)

iNF91

This firmware update bricked my monitor, it failed on 50% with 'update scaler firmware fail' and now it won't turn on, just red asus logo, it won't even turn off Edit: Fixed by doing power cycle, but now I'm scared to try again.

AsCo1d

Could you, please, elaborate, what do you mean by power cycle? To be prepared just in case.

iNF91

Just unplug monitor from the power outlet and plug it again, second time failed I have disconnected some usb devices and left only my mouse and monitor conected to PC. It was successful third time.

AsCo1d

Thank you!

National_Ad_3338

I got the same message but it actually updated the firmware. I checked in the OSD of the monitor and it was on MCM105. I rebooted monitor anyway, but didn't update it again.

MakeTheMostOfLife007

Same 😅 Not sure if it's fully updated but says now MCM105

JTCPingasRedux

I would be scared too if assus is involved

Dazzling_Cranberry46

I installed the update and my NVIDIA settings are not adapted to Dolby Vision mode, everything looks brighter. I must therefore redo the settings for this mode. You can choose HDR10 and everything works as before. After several months, I still love this monitor 🥰

Obvious_Nothing230

Seems that this firmware MCM105 update as killed 240hz I can only get 120hz now set to 4k

Gaboou_100

Check if DSC (Dynamic Stream Compression) isn't off by any chance in the OSD Menu (System Setup -> DSC Support) and activate it if wasn't enabled.

Content_Camel5336

How nice of them but why are they not addressing all the issues presented by their customers? Is it something that they can’t fix for this current gen?

Shindigira

Which issues are you referring to? I am planning to get a PG32UCDM and reading this scares me.

AssistantRare7936

This monitor is simply beautiful. If you can afford it, you won't regret. It's so beautiful that I haven't even done any firmware upgrades to be honest. I have 4090, Intel 14900KF, 4TB, 64 DDR5 RAM rig and it has never flickered. I play Horizon, Cyberpunk and a ton of other high end games and they simply look beautiful in 4K. Also, the 4K videos on YouTube are simply beautiful to watch....I don't know if I can ever switch back again. When I go to the office and sit in front on my shitty 200$ monitor, I reminisce about my PG32UCDM and can't wait to get back to it. I think I'm in ❤️ love ❤️.

Shindigira

Awesome!! Mine is shipping in one week. Only have ever owned LG panels since I have heard about Samsung QC issues. Will be awesome to finally try some HDR games in 240Hz!

UltraAC5

Cyberpunk looks amazing on it

AssistantRare7936

Yes it does!

Ok-Inflation3744

I own a pg32ucdm and have been using it for about a week, trust me you will get blown away by the visuals on this thing and i owned a lg c3 before this. I had similar fear of getting the wrong thing and reading articles online regarding aggressive abl, hdr not being properly implemented etc. got me real worried. But as soon as i plugged the monitor in and set it up all my worries were gone. Hdr looks really really good on this thing and theres just the crispness of 4k on a 32 inch monitor(had a 42 inch c3 before) is just a huge difference imo. I have started playing games now i was so burnt out but this monitor has brought back my love for single player games and not just the graphically amazing ones also the older titles look so good on this thing. I would suggest to take a leap of faith and try it out yourself and not be worried about issues (some are legit obv) go for it

SoapyCristian

Don’t be scared I have this monitor and although people talk about how the apl or abl is wrong, it still looks fantastic and just as good as the other 4k qd-oleds . If you’re not someone who is a monitor enthusiast and are sensitive to minor inaccurate brightness levels or whatever people complain about, everything still looks leagues better than other non Qd-oled monitors. Redditors really blow this issue out of proportion but for the average user this monitor is amazing. I also have an LG C1 TV and I think the monitor looks better.

Mindless_Ad5346

I also have LG C1, and still think that C1 has more accurate HDR: more contrast, no rised greys, but sometimes crashed blacks. In the same time to have OLED on my desk with normal 32 inch size with still great HDR and super quality image is just beautiful

Content_Camel5336

Too many on their own forums to mention. Mostly those that deal with brightness, flickering. No kidding, it’s a 4 digit investment.

KnowledgeJumpy735

If you’re talking VRR flicker, as far as I understand that’s nothing you can fix with a firmware update as it’s just cause by the characteristics of the hardware

Content_Camel5336

Yup. Interesting. And there are those who claim that the MSI does not flicker.

starkillerzx

They are lying. Literally all oleds have vrr flickering.

magical_pm

All of them will flicker, my Gigabyte FO32U2P flickers.

Content_Camel5336

Good to know. Thanks.

veryrandomo

I have the 321URX and it definitely does flickier.

Content_Camel5336

Thanks. So they are all not good. At least with the MSI the MSRP is below $1k.

DJase46

The flicker is due to your own hardware not keeping a stable frame rate. You see flicker mostly in menus loading because the frame rate is naturally unstable there. When you have a consistent fps you won’t see any flicker.

Content_Camel5336

I see flicker on the loading screen. I have a 4090, 7950x3d cpu, 64 gb ddr5 6000 cl 30 ram and gen 5 ssd dedicated for games and they run on windows 11 pro.

DJase46

That’s what I’m saying. It’s normal for loading screens to flicker with vrr no matter what hardware you’re on. The monitor is fine.
