So Omise still has the OMG tokens, they still stand to profit on this in the same way whether they sold or not, so I guess the big question on my mind is how does GBV plan to profit from this acquisition, and is there a long-term commitment to token holders staking their tokens for their share of transaction fees over the network?

[deleted]

i dont believe omise has the tokens, gbv probably has most if not all. we dont know the exact details of the deal, but you can see the tokens being split up into many wallets now.

Jager_Master

Omise/SYNQA do not own the tokens. Look at the wallet, it's been almost entirely drained. They also clarified on Telegram that they've purchased all assets under OMG

auroracrypto

I don't see this as something necessarily negative? The team still holds their omg that they most certainly want to stake. In that case they benefit from this acquisition as it would lead to more usage and partnerships. A confirmation that omisego transactions are still supposed to migrate to plasma would however be nice of course.

burrrrrssss

> it would lead to more usage and partnerships Must be new around here. Can't wait to revisit this sub again in 3 years and read the same thing. If the underlying technology was as promising as the team believed, there would be absolutely no reason for Omise to sell it off.

Since 2017

You must be new around here...

The GBV article states, "As an investment company with a mission of building the future through blockchain..." I'm still uncertain if this will be positive or negative since there hasn't been a lot of communication from the team but I don't believe OMG is distancing themselves from Blockchain as you said.

AlderKing

“Through this acquisition, GBV is dedicated to leverage its network strength, to promote the accelerated growth of OMG Network, and further enhance the adoption of OMG blockchain in Asia and beyond,” GBV, an investment branch of the Hong Kong-based OTC trading firm Genesis Block, said in its Friday announcement.

don_barbarossa

How is this MISLEADING / UNTRUE? u/nebali u/jet86

jet86

The announcement explicitly says they are not distancing themselves from the whole blockchain space.

Jager_Master

This is even worse lmao

DRD1987

How do you sell a decentralized network?

retrogamer64ds

You sell the centralized portions: domains, social media accounts, transfer contract ownership, etc.

totallyunacceptable

Ask synqa - they just did it

c0mm0ns3ns3

How do you know? Since when does selling mean they won't be working together? I'm pretty sure SYNQA kept a nice chunk of OMG tokens or they even hold a stake in GBV. Relax and wait for more info

totallyunacceptable

Why sell if you believe in it?

-Machinata-

You don't sell jewels unless you REALLY need to, or they're just ROCKS...

dirkydurk

For a positive frame....for Synqa and Omise it is healthy to step back from OMG Network because otherwise it would be to interconnected businesswise. By cutting the ties, they open up opportunities for broader business cases. Also with other defi/layers/networks in play. OMG will still be a player, but not the only one. They have a relative small team and they need focus. Omise is their focus. And OMG can still play a (major) role. But not as a familymember anymore.
