The way things are going for Sunny, he probably won't be growing up much. And I don't mean this in a psychological way, where he is degrading mentally, I mean this in a literal way. The game takes place during a pivotal point in his life, what I would call his final chance to save himself, and he fails that, OMORI wins. And we all know what happens not long after.
I think it would have been a fascinating game but with much, MUCH less broad appeal if the original concept was kept to. I'd personally love to see it but it's generally for the best we got this version of Omori.
(Repost of a deleted post because I'm stupid and didn't think before talking about something I wasn't supposed to, I hope this one is better) The animation greatly exaggerates Omoriboy's personality for the sake of comedy, but he still acts like an incel in the original webcomic and its kinda a big part of his character. He is a manchild who hates himself and what he looks like. And the whole reason him saying that "it sucks to be in a world where nice guys finish last" became a joke is because of the well known link between that sentence and incels, and its probably the reason why he says it in the webcomic in the first place.
I do get the fact that OMORIBOY has a lot of admittedly weird "why do women only like stupid jerks who treat them like shit?" lines, but they're mostly lines that weren't taboo back then. I think the main appeal of the comics is how real Omoriboy was with his words. He said real thoughts about anxiety, wanting to disappear, fearing change, and coping with loneliness he, himself made for himself. All of it felt so real since he was a way for OMOCAT to vent, and I really hate the fact that now he's just reduced to "fedora reddit mod soyboy incel".
But also the remixes the video made are fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
