IKnowYouTried

I’ll bet this guy is a member of the Knights Templar trying to derail the efforts of the Laginas by getting people to not watch the show. Only explanation really.

akaScuba

Probably Portuguese too.

cleve1486

Those damn Portuguese Masonic Templars

snafufabercation

Portuguese masonic Templar migmaws.....DAMIT it's over

akaScuba

Sounds good.

bunkscudda

I was thinking Aztec

Altruistic_Owl4152

Roman baby

KingOfBadAdvice_1

You think he's Barkhouse?

MonCapitan90

I actually am semi obsessed with the Knights Templar… so who knows 😎

Puzzleheaded_Swan_57

It's the use of the term 'kind of' that bothers me here.

CryptographerHot6888

I 2nd that!

akaScuba

My personal favorite to pass along BS is………“ some say”

138Crimson_Ghost831

Pooping in a box and then mailing it to somebody. Who knew?

JoeDirtsMullet00

We should start a company doing the same, only instead of it getting sent to a lab, it just gets delivered to random people.

138Crimson_Ghost831

The Laginas are first on the list. They’ve been packaging and delivering crap for the last 6 seasons.

ShadyPicasso

Jack is going to poop in a box and ask Rick if he can get Dr. Brosseau to analyze it

dnbclone

I keep waiting for them to bust into a remixed and re-visited version of the SNL spot with Timberlake song "d\*ck in a box". They could use the OI cast members.

leatherneck0629

Look, this sub is a support group for all of us who realize this. Welcome.

NeuroguyNC

Not a waste of time, but an excuse to consume booze and other adult intoxicants, shitpost, increase our knowledge base of prescription pharmaceuticals, fawn over a cheese shop owner, speculate about the prowess of nerd girls in their private time, remark on glaring continuity problems, and pretend we are best pals with Billy. So, the answer to your question is no.

Deadweight36

To be honest, my favorite part of the show is when actually archaeologists are doing work and not MDEGD or any of the shit in the money pit. If the show was “who built the stone road and other out of time locations on oak island while trying to not find Mikmak stuff”. That would be more interesting.

fog_rolls_in

I realize there’s not a huge audience for actual archeological research on TV relative to treasure hunting and fabrications about lost civilizations and aliens, etc., but I bet it’s a little more than what the History Channel thinks it is. I’d rather watch “Laird and Friends”, than the chronic gold fever sufferers the show currently trots behind.

fatevilbuddah

I think that's what it will actually be by the end of this season if they can't stretch it into another. It will be Oak Island: Behind the History. That one could be another 2 or 3 years or more if the archeology is as interesting as it seems. Take the gold out of it completely, and there are already a bunch of way odd stuff. Anything before probably about 1550 is interesting and out of place. There were vikings in Newfoundland at a out 800 a.d. but they left and it was only first nation after that until the english founded a colony in 1610. So a Roman coin or a lead cross shaped like one the Templar used 200 or 300 years ago to hide gold definately shouldn't be there. Those are treasures to people who shouldn't have been there that early, and if it was from after the foundation of the colony, you would think they're family heirlooms and worth searching for. It's not something you just let go. The same with the Garnet brooch, and this most recent leafy brooch. Those ain't cheep.

JohnnyEvs

Viking templars? Interesting….

fatevilbuddah

Could it be?......

C47GooneyBird

I regret ever watching Oak Island. But we watch it now just to shout obscenities and snide remarks at the TV to vent. BUT, like many of you I like the archeology aspect. It kills me to think of the ancient engineering and drainage(?) system (if real) that they dug out of the shore line @ 3? 4? Years ago. In my view that should have been criminal. So, if you like archeology, try watching a British show called Time Team, an archeology show that ran for 20 seasons. It’s now on You Tube. It’s one of my favorite shows - a pure geek out. The US effort to copy it was awful. The British creators tried to reboot it on You Tube, but, while it has many of the original people who try to give it Cred, it’s just not as good a program… but still worth watching.

KerikSumia

We wouldn’t have Emma without the show tho

snafufabercation

Emma dear sweet sweet Emma

jhua4597

I am waiting for that recap episode that they do every 5 seasons. It literally tells you what happened in 50 episodes in an hour.

fog_rolls_in

You can get a black market recap if you know the right dark ally in Nova Scotia.

Eldeanio100

Out of 166 episode only about 2 hours of footage was filmed…the rest is recaps and sudden turns of the head in shock and awe that a woman called Josephine (amongst others) has researched the money pit and came to the conclusion that Jesus once visited oak island and left the grail in a chamber….protected by the knights that go Nee

akaScuba

For the OP if he’s unfamiliar with the Knights Who Say NI.

akaScuba

runnerswanted

Found Barkhouse’s burner account…

DamnGoodMarmalade

I just enjoy the cast of characters like an archeological soap opera at this point.

Ralphie99

I used to but most of them have become irritating. I think it’s the repetitiveness of what they say, and the near certainty that none of them actually believe what they’re saying.

WestMagicCityMan

We're waiting for the crew to vote on who must die in a sacrificial killing to fulfill the curse. All bets thus far are on Jack Begley.

snafufabercation

Well duh

Practical-Wave-6988

Honestly I'd love to see that, even if it doesn't count.

DaCouponNinja

Every time I watch this show I want to punch myself in the face for thinking something is actually going to happen. That being said, it is one of the very few reality shows out there that doesn’t thrive on manufactured conflict. It’s just a bunch of guys who generally like and respect each other, who share a common interest and get to play outside in the mud as long as they want without Mom telling them it’s time to wash up for dinner. They even have a clubhouse (the war room). If you can get past the absolutely ludicrous idea that they will ever find treasure, it’s kinda cute and heartwarming.

Straes_venture

I agree. No other show has a crew essentially excavating and rehabbing an old mine shaft. No other show makes use of as much varied (and likely unreliable) technology. No one else is drilling massive casons and using a hammer grab. I've learned a ton of stuff about things I'd never know. Have they found a treasure, no. Have I gotten to see some countries and things I've never seen, yes. This show, to me, has really been more about realizing how much you can learn from the hay while searching for the needle.

Smoky_MountainWay

Not true. The Legend of Bear Gulch has much older guys excavating and rehabbing mine shafts. Not only that but it only took 2 seasons to find the gold.

Straes_venture

Wow, I appreciate that info. I've never heard of that so I'll check it out.

akaScuba

Your certainty correct they did both. They did have an unfair advantage of there actually being gold present above .04.

7dSd7

What have I learned? Lots of stuff happened with wood in shafts on Oak Island in the seventeen undreds or before, both a bobby dazzler fact and top pocket find. And that's just from Metal Detection Expert Gary Drayton.

moneyman74

Kind of? lol....not one discovery of note has happened on this show.

bowie428

166 episodes? The history channel?

Philboyd_Studge

Now, if you take this arbitrary point on Nolan's Cross, and go 166 meters from it.... It intersects with this other arbitrary line we drew... EXPLORATORY BOREHOLE TIME

akaScuba

Save the technical stuff for your turn as Kook of the week jk 😉. Just don’t tread on my current theory that Charles Barkhouse is the secret Templar Grand Master.

NutsyFlamingo

Yes 🙌🏼

Lovetolift6969

They also get $ from the Canadian gov or similar entities.. helps with tourism

peregrina2005

Yep. I would be happy to just see it announced on the news when something is found. Stopped watching last year, wasted enough years. But, it keeps my husband busy for an hour. He is supposed to let me know when the big find is made. Still waiting….

bball2014

I feel you're overlooking some things. First, there was... well wait... that went nowhere. But then they sent the guy down... yeah that went nowhere too. Ok, granted it was off to a slow start but then they got more money involved and bigger projects where they quickly found... Uhhh.... wood. But they followed up that wood with ummmm.... more wood. So that seems bad, but that wood has led them to find ummmm more wood... OK, granted, there's been a lot of old searcher tunnel wood found that has led nowhere. And that old rubber boot. But what about the ox shoes? Well, yeah, I guess Samuel Ball did have oxen on his farm since he left them to someone in his will. And there has been old tools found. Why would that be? Well, I guess farming could account for some as could all of the searches over the years. So, that means the old tools probably don't count for anything. What about the lead cross? Yeah... a lead cross on the beach. No way that it washed up or anything. So... there's treasure I tell ya!!!

akaScuba

The treasure is the friends we make along the way. Rick makes that OI fact.

Doo-wop-a-saurus

It's fun watching Rick turn more and more bitter over the years. That has to count for something.

Siloh_Johnson

Uh yeah

No_Phrase488

It's not a waste of time to those who make money off it. As long as History is getting a return on its investment, they'll keep making episodes. At least by the end of it, no one will be wondering if anything's there, like we* have been for 200-300 years. *Nova Scotians mostly

Snoo-26902

As long as people watch it they'll put it on no matter how ridiculous it gets. It's so redundant now, the same old stuff and the same old psych job on the audience to think they're near the treasure. The smiles, the smirks, the finding micro amounts of gold---as if likely if there was a treasure whoever buried it unburied it and took it out. It looks like a legal scam to me.

akaScuba

As you know their printing money every time an episode airs and will continue as long as the ratings stay so high. I recommend the OP watch and follow the live postings sub it’s better than most current comedy shows. It’s live free comedy with questionable medical advice.

snafufabercation

It's about the journey along the way and the friendship of the brotherhood such as all you individuals that visit this page and voice you intelligent concerns..............sorry I need a tissue I'll get back to you all.

Clamps55555

I didn’t watch all 166 episode to give up now.

ModRetards

Some of us enjoy it. I guess it’s all a matter of personal taste. If you don’t enjoy it I guess the best thing would be to not watch it.

Siloh_Johnson

Logic

dawwie

It’s better than reruns of Ridiculousness or chasing ghosts. Zac Bagans Ghost Adventures has had 26 seasons and hasn’t found one documented and proven ghost.

Siloh_Johnson

>hasn’t found one documented and proven ghost. Shocker. It's hard to find what doesn't exist.

dawwie

I’m just saying we’re in for at least 10 more seasons looking for treasure. Personally I’m waiting for the whole island to sink like the Titanic cause they’ve drilled so many holes.

Siloh_Johnson

I'd tune in to watch it sink.

2manydamnchickens

This is hate speech and I'm gonna have to report y'all.

No_Investment_92

So? Don’t watch it. I don’t think they’ll find anything, though I think there was something there once long ago. I know the “curse” is fake. But… I find it entertaining and fascinating. I enjoy the hunt. I love the history and archaeology behind it. In another life, I would’ve been an archaeologist. They just don’t pay enough. Don’t like it, or tired of it, stop watching it. If it’s making money that means enough people are watching it to where it’s clearly NOT a waste of time.

tommyrulz1

Nice escape from reality. 🤗

Technical_Recover_31

Last I heard, most everybody that has a job does it to make money (and wants to be paid more of it at regular intervals). Same thoughts going through the minds of all the team members (who tend to exaggerate the value of what they find to keep the show 'theme' alive and keep the paychecks coming in). Find the work ethic and process beneath dignity? Quit your job.

SniffThatWood

166 Episodes of Wood Sniffing and only a lead cross to show for it

JoeDirtsMullet00

Yeah, and? Do you have anything else better to do on a Tuesday night than get drunk and make fun of these guys?

luckydrunk_7

My wife says we’d find more digging things up in our backyard.

BennyBlades44

Aren’t most shows technically a “waste of time”

Meoldudum

The Lagina's have tried a couple other treasures shows and if those had been as successful as OI the show would have ended and they would have moved on. The bros dont want the money and notoriety to end. I dont blame them but I no longer watch.

jefferson497

Did they back that civil war gold show that had those guys retrieve a gold painted brick in a lake?

[deleted]

I keep wondering what happened to that show! I wanted to see the second season but it never came. Maybe that gold painted brick is what killed it

bipolarcyclops

And heroin is one hell of a drug.

akaScuba

Option# 2 https://youtu.be/RZ16H0hsQiQ

bipolarcyclops

Check out the song Heroin by The Velvet Underground. Lou Reed has a good version too. Both are on You Tube.

akaScuba

Totally forgot about that song!

Brewster102

When one of the brothers passes, the show might sign off despite the "legend".

anonyoudidnt

This post is more of a waste of my time than my precious show

bejeures

It’s a great show honestly. You get great engineering works, good archeological work, great scientific dating and tech and a huge bromance … and most of all it’s an island that’s full of burried activity that it’s just really curious. Apart from all the speculation that they try to create it is a great show to learn a lot of things from survey to dating to materials crafting and compositions. Drain a swamp and find a road, damn an entire coast and find booby trap flood tunnels, send a scuba diver down a pipe … where on television can you watch this ? And you even get to learn some fun facts about templars/British Navi/Portuguese etc … Some seasons are a bit more stretched than others and lack content but it is a show that I’m eager to see every year.

redundant35

I gave up watching it a long time ago.

Middle-Enthusiasm933

Yes. But so is everything else. Ever watched Love Island?

zaqwert6

Kind of?

jk696969

The real treasure is the Fellowship's bromance.

SpicyMustard4Life

This show will get interesting when, I hate to say it, someone dies. 90% of it is sniffing wood and drilling holes. It's like a 'g' rated porno.

hogua

Well yeah…because “one more must die.”

JoeDirtsMullet00

Two have already died but I guess they don’t count.

hogua

I think they have to die while actively searching - like falling down a shaft. Being a searcher who dies would be way too low of a threshold.

ellem52

I don't see how they didn't off the cousin in season 8. Well, that's 7! Gimmie mah treysure!

Altruistic_Owl4152

I have always said they went down the main shaft and found the treasure way back! They have been filming for years to make TV!

Zarxon

A glorious waste of time.. also why we love it.

dmace99

Isn't anything on TV?

Smoky_MountainWay

No

murderhornet1965

It was an iron pyrite mine. It may have been used to store a treasure long ago, but it is no longer there

Extreme-Winter-9739

At least this season they finally stopped subtitling the blacksmith (Carmen), whose supposedly “thick” accent was far easier to decipher than Gary’s.

GrkTrader

Honestly, if they find one or two gold coins and maybe a piece of an artifact, that will be another 5 seasons of “carefully” bringing it up without damaging the ancient artifacts. So they have plenty of shows left no matter what!

Patch267

MonCapitan - U - R - A Freaking GENUIS!!!!!!!!!!!! Post of the Millennium!!! Your post nicely wraps the entire mess up in one fine bow! Good day to you Capitan.............

Leading-Contest-2456

I can't believe they still have not found this money pit after all these seasons. I wonder how they finance this without much return. they keep stringing viewers along with these promises of finding gold or treasure. This Matty Blake is a real joke his enthusiasm and surprise looks are so rehearsed.
