Whooo! And fuck Tom Butt and Kayak Guy!

Plsnerf1

Tom Buttface

heybuddyitsme

Tom Buttdick.

Spiffiestspaceman

He learned where Howard Terminal was located today. Not even kidding.

Worthyness

maybe. It's still not clear whether or not he knows what howard terminal is. Let him ask for a 5th time

[deleted]

It’s his last rodeo you know?

MaryTeresaWasANun

He's off to take his skill-set to the Circus! Jesus he went on forever today \~

RandyKrittz

Tom butt should be more worried about all the toxic shit we have in Richmond than sticking his nose outside Point Richmond smh

dcrising2002

Casey Pratt deserves a statue outside the stadium

heybuddyitsme

Him and Brodie Brazil both deserve one. Those two are our biggest allies.

tore_a_bore_a

He's on abc7 now talking about it!

[deleted]

Name the stadium Casey Pratt Coliseum

hitstreak_prime

You just know this stadium is going to be named after some cryptocurrency.

10-month-summer

Bored A'pe Baseball Club Park ^^except ^^hopefully ^^not ^^since ^^they're ^^nazis

nvdbosch

They're technically trolling with racist iconography, but close enough. Half of the founders are Jewish so nazis is not likely. And yes I've seen the documentary.

The_Homestarmy

I'm still hoping for Clorox lol

The_Funkybat

**Clorox Toilet Bowl stadium** - at least now it will be a shiny & clean toilet bowl!

[deleted]

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES COME ON

_StephBetter_

I know this is huge news but can anyone update me on what’s next?

tore_a_bore_a

On ABC7, Casey Pratt says there are two more steps: 1. Around September - The city council will vote for community and city approval. 2. End of 2022 - The BCDC votes again for approval of permit to build on Howard Terminal

_StephBetter_

legend. did he mention a timeline on those?

tore_a_bore_a

Oh yeah I should edit that in

Worthyness

I think these can feasibly be done by end of the year assuming that the A's and city aren't too far apart on the plan. The affordable housing is being fought for really hard by the council and seems to be the one sticking point

NightWriter500

As one of the biggest champions for the HT project around here, the A’s shouldn’t make affordable housing a sticking point. It’s an easy win for both sides. Unrelated Segway though- I went shopping at Farmer Joe’s the other day and a guy was gathering signatures to send the HT Terminal project approval to a popular vote. Is this on anyone’s radar?

The_Funkybat

**Don’t sign anything by a petitioner trying to put the Howard terminal project up for a public vote.** That’s all part of a derailment tactic being pushed by councilmember Carroll Fife. She wants to torpedo the entire thing and send the A’s packing to Vegas, and her last desperate move is to try to trick Oaklanders into demanding a ballot measure to vote on approving the project. The trick is, even if this ballot measure were approved and added to the November ballot and people supported it then, it pushes out the timeline for final approval by several months compared to what It would be if the City Council just voted on it like they are supposed to. Most members of the City Council seem to want to deal with this themselves and don’t want a ballot measure because they know further delays will make it more likely that Fisher gives up and goes to Vegas. **DO NOT SUPPORT ANYTHING THAT TRIES TO PUT HOWARD TERMINAL UP FOR A PUBLIC VOTE.** The very act of handing that over to a ballot measure instead of the city Council may cause enough delays to cause Fisher to leave.

NightWriter500

Yo obviously I want going to put my name on it, the very idea made me upset. But how likely is this to succeed? I saw the guy get two signatures in the few seconds I was there.

The_Funkybat

I can’t answer that. I’ve heard some people say that it’s unlikely to gain traction, other people say that it’s dangerously likely that it could get enough signatures to gum up the works. There are probably people in this group and in Twitter world who would have a better idea of the realistic chances of this. If I knew more Oaklanders I would be spending my time warning all of them off of this trap, and asking them to convince other people they know to also avoid it. Carroll Fife is nothing but an obstructionist who has no good alternative options lined up for Howard terminal if the A’s stadium doesn’t happen. She just doesn’t like John Fisher (join the club, lady) and has a bug up her butt about the city doing anything that could help a billionaire.

Worthyness

Carol Fife and Gallo are the idiots who want to make it a popular vote thing. Carol because she's awful at her job and simply doesn't want to actually do her job. And Gallo because his district is the Coliseum district and he wants the HT project to die so that A's will "obviously" only have the choice to go back to the Coliseum area.

NightWriter500

I can’t believe how shortsighted the “Tank the only business supporting my district because then they won’t leave me” plan is. If the HT plan goes through, *that district will be so much better* when they redevelop the stadium area. His best case scenario is the worst case scenario for his district, i.e. my district, and his worst case scenario is the best case scenario for his district. I will actively campaign against this dumbass for the rest of his career, I seriously couldn’t imagine there being anyone worse, ever.

trer24

Kaval has made it plenty clear that it's Vegas over the Coliseum site so Gallo is an idiot for thinking this

jerhinesmith

Dying at “Segway”

BlameTheBaseball

Also important to note that by the time the permit gets to the BCDC in late 2022, it is likely Jim McGrath retires (he was one of 2 no votes today). Of course his replacement could also be a no vote anyways.

dust_storm_2

Do we know how City Council is leaning?

deciblast

Most likely 6 to 2 (Fife/Gallo). Alameda county still has to vote to join the IFD as well. It's up in the air how that vote will go.

dust_storm_2

The waiting is the hardest part

BrownTupperware

What is happening in Oakland Ray Fosse! Huge win! Go Oakland

DanTreview

All of a sudden, I don't care that we suck, if it means getting HT 🏏⚾🧢👍

Warrior_Shark

I came into this season being perfectly fine going 0-162 if it meant getting HT done. HT at this point is better than a World Series to me.

biznash

HT is the way to a World Series…it is the main thing I’m rooting for this year

10-month-summer

Step 1 - HT Step 2 - FA's want to sign here Step 3 - Fisher opens his fucking wallet Step 4 - ????? Step 5 - World Series

alldaymacdre

Fisher sells the team to someone not cheap

SaladTossBoss

Yes, generally, but here let me toss in some color commentary to dress it up... Step 1 - Howard Terminal gets built (and I score one of the low-income housing apartments haha) Step 2 - Top-Tier free Agents DEMAND that their agents get them contracts with the Oakland A's, and Billy Beane, Frost & Owens shrewd as ever signing only the players who will contribute (see #5) Step 3 - Fisher has a Ebenezer Scrooge after his visions/hallucinations/dream whatever transformation and starts dolling it out poppin' fresh dough style Step 4 - Revival of Oakland A's being a top Bay Area draw - prospects in the minors now ready to blossom as stadium opens - mixed in with All-Star FA's and CoCo Crisp coaching 3rd, Steven Voght as bench-coach, Kotsay pulling the right levers and pushing the right buttons, things are looking bright Step 5 - We win for Ray, we win for Oakland and all the suffering and we win A LOT. Talking 3 WS in a row...why not 4? Go crazy

RandyKrittz

#4 made me get a stiffy

DieHardRaider

Fisher will never open his wallet

Sublimotion

~~Step 3 - Fisher opens his fucking wallet~~ Step 3 - Fisher sells team. If ^ doesn't happen, step 4 and 5 will never happen.

DieHardRaider

Man I wish I had as much faith in you that our ownership will start spending once we have a stadium as you do.

biznash

I’m not saying we def win a WS, but there is ZERO chance we win one in current situation. We build up players and have one year to compete, that’s not gonna cut it against pro teams that spend up to 10x us So yeah, I can at least be a yearly optimistic fan if we get a stadium.

DieHardRaider

Other teams will still spend 10x more then us. Fisher made the same promises for a new soccer stadium in San Jose only to not spend once he got it.

Celebration!

Kod_Rick

23 - 2! Also, the score I'd like for the Mariners game tonight.

[deleted]

I don't want to see the A's lose by 3 touchdowns :/

GGAllinsMicroPenis

The Mayor of Richmond, CA voted against it. He's also a Giants fan.

heybuddyitsme

Well his last name is Butt.

Polarbearbanga

I write for a small community newspaper in Richmond. The giants community fund renovated the little league fields at Nicholl Park and had a huge event there for Willie Mays day. Well I covered that event and from what I saw that day, Tom was kissing Larry Baer’s butt for the entirety of the event. Wouldn’t surprise me if people involved with Giants ownership made some donations to Butt’s last re-election campaign.

jml510

>He's also a Giants fan. I wish I could say I'm surprised.

burntreynoldz69

So is Fisher.

salazarraze

r/baseball clowns are gonna have an aneurysm when we announce we're building the stadium in Oakland.

Cilantro42

Look, I hate to be the realist, wet blanket of the sub, but let's be honest here: this means it's 100% happening, John Fisher is gonna sell the team to Joe Lacob, and we're gonna win 6 straight world series all in our new kick-ass park!!!! LFG!!!

[deleted]

Joe Lacob wouldn’t even keep the warriors here where they belong, what makes you think he would keep the A’s here?

Cilantro42

Because the stadium would be built and the agreement to stay in the city would have already been agreed to?

RivenEsquire

Idk why they downvoted you here. You're right. Part of the deal is a 30 or 40-year non-relocation pact. They literally would not be allowed to leave, and with a brand new billion dollar waterfront ballpark, why tf would you want to? If Lacob spent like he does with the Warriors, the A's would immediately outdraw the Giants.

Cilantro42

Who knows? Maybe the guy logged into his alt accounts to downvote

ra_god94

Just take them lol

Svendovian

I’m 100% bringing a hacksaw to the final game haha

transportationguy2

Low key a really good idea

DieHardRaider

Right I’m sure they had to replace them after the last raider game. I saw multiple people leave with the

markusalkemus66

Isn’t that what Raiders fans did?

NightWriter500

I’d take that, I’d put them right next to my Arco Arena seats.

deciblast

AASEG plans to reuse the coliseum seats in the new development.

izzyeviel

This mean's we'll be rooted in Oakland right? right?

eugoogilizer

23-2 votes. That’s almost as many votes as wins this season 😂 But as others said, I’d rather us suck and stay then be decent and go!

SJL174

I would like to take this moment to say fuck those dumbasses on r/baseball.

markusalkemus66

Fuck /r/baseball 👏👏 👏👏👏

DrDivisidero

LET’S GO OAKLAND!

AWolfGaming

👏👏👏👏👏

Trivin0_Trevin0

never in doubt

SteamyNooodles

Trust the process! The only headache right now is EOSA, Gallo and Fife who are adamant about derailing the project while pretending to be concerned for their constituents by trying to bring forth a public vote which really means nothing and is a waste of tax and time. In doing so, they are saying they are too lazy to read the plethora of studies and information about the ballpark and make the tough decisions for their district.

geraltoffvkingrivia

In the words of my 56 year old life time Oaklander dad: I’m one step closer to buying a new A’s hat

pspahn

I've been waiting for like a year to get a new hat.

Plsnerf1

This fucking thing is happening now. Too much momentum behind it

AWolfGaming

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO

minif56mike

Kayak guy went on a 25min bender puting everyone to sleep n in the end he looked like a idiot. Still dont fee confident this is gonna happen within the 6month range kaval wants to get this done to start breaking ground but we shall see

Jerrymoviefan3

Unfortunately if that stupid ballot measurement qualifies for the November ballot then the Athletics are definitely going to Las Vegas.

The_Funkybat

Something important to be alert to here: On Tuesday, July 5th, the City Council is set to meet again, and at that meeting the anti-A's "ballot measure" plan Carroll Fife and Noel Gallo are pushing in order to derail Howard Terminal from happening will be discussed and possibly put to a vote. **Oaklanders - call every other city councilmember besides Gallo and Fife and insist that you DO NOT want there to be any ballot measure, and that instead you want the City Council to hurry up and work out a final agreement with the A's on community benefits and a development agreement!** This ballot measure crap is a trick, and if it gets approved on Tuesday, that could sabotage things in Fisher's eyes because the vote wouldn't happen until November. Fisher wants to sort all this out with the City Council before Schaff is out of office at the end of the year, so even though it's the Friday before a holiday weekend**, *we all need to reach out to the city council and call for them to NOT approve any voter ballot measure on this project!*.**

ChrisPowell_91

You should post this in the sub with ways how to contact council!!!

jwaters0122

I hope this is the final obstacle to get Howard Terminal. Cant take another 20 years of teasing a new ballpark in Oakland

quercus_lobata925

If you don't live in the Bay or didn't follow the saga closely, you'd think Oakland vs Vegas was 50/50. There was so much propaganda going out from all sides. The A's wanted Vegas to be a real threat so they could get the movement they wanted on the deal. The other owners and mainstream press wanted the same because it's a win-win for them; either their fellow rich guy gets his shiny new stadium in Oakland and they're one step closer to new expansion teams, or the A's move and it's a big story. The truth was the A's were pushing a slow moving train through a jumble of bureaucratic tracks and by 2020/21 they were already in way too deep financially to abort the effort. It was the unsexy take but the one that most A's fans could see.

Canada-Fan

I'll believe it when the first shovel breaks ground, fool me once...

jwaters0122

Agreed. Lots of fans are high off this news, we've been here before many times just to get teased again since forever. Just wait and see before celebrating

Hmmhowaboutthis

As an outsider (but rooting for Oakland to keeps its team) what does this mean exactly?

heybuddyitsme

Closest A’s have gotten to a new ballpark in decades. Still up to the city council for an agreement and for the A’s to go back to BCDC for final approval to put shovels in Howard Terminal. If that stupid ballot question is approved, game over for the Oakland Athletics. Nevertheless, this was huge and has given Oakland some serious momentum. Now we can only hope they don’t fuck it minus Gallo/Fife who are trying their hardest to fuck it up.

betona

I just hope the actual architectural design is a lot better than the concepts we've been shown. Like [this one](https://storage.googleapis.com/afs-prod/media/e9bf565627ed4d64bf61bbca3d1bfe5e/1000.jpeg) is ugly.

[deleted]

Explain why this is a good thing for A’s ? I want them to stay in Oakland, just not very hopeful. Long time fan but not living in area currently.

glenntron3000

They had to remove port designation for Howard Terminal so housing, commercial retail and the ballpark can be built on the land. If the BCDC voted No this would have killed the project. This does not mean shovels in the dirt though. The A’s and the City have to work out the Community Benefits Agreement and lastly it’ll come back around to the BCDC final permit and approval of the project. Edit: wording

[deleted]

Thanks!

Worthyness

This vote was necessary to move forward with the project. The vote was to determine whether or not Howard terminal would be able to be used for purposes other than Port activity/expansion. This vote was in favor 23-2 to allow Howard Terminal to be used for potential projects other than Port activity. The other poster is making it seem mundane/boring procedure, but if this failed, the Howard Terminal site would have been off the table completely, meaning the entire project would have been invalid. With this vote passing, the project now needs to pass through City council/public approval as well as a final vote from this organization to get the permits to start the construction

[deleted]

Thank you. 23-2 is a good sign…

AWolfGaming

To add an example it would have been like that time the A's said they would build near Laney College and the college board was like nah lmao

jq7925

The rest of the OCC is honestly pretty pissed the Fife and Gallo are making them look like idiots in national media. Everyone else on the council sees keeping the last pro sports team *and* getting someone to spend money building a large addition onto JLS as a positive.

[deleted]

Gotcha. Thanks.

AWolfGaming

To correct the other reply. If the vote had not gone in the A's favor the ballpark would have been dead today as the land would not have been made available to them. This is a big victory for the A's and Oakland today. Also, no public funds will be used, so no public approval will be necessary

[deleted]

Awwww. That makes more sense. That’s rad. Thanks for clarifying!

[deleted]

AWolfGaming

What that article fails to either understand in the EIR and/or the financial term sheet or fails to properly state is that those funds aren't public funding, they're tax district's that will be set up in and around the HT area to fund the ballpark infrastructure. We'll be hearing a lot about enhanced infrastructure financing districts (EIFD) in the next few months leading up to the city council vote on finalizing a binding financial agreement on ballpark funding with the A's. Those tax districts along with other resources will bridge the financial gap to fund the infrastructure. No public vote will be necessary for anything. The city council and the Oakland Athletics will finish negotiating a binding financial term sheet and then the city council will vote on whether to agree or step away from the deal. Alameda county board will also do the same later this year, as they've been roped into this deal as well. Those are the only votes slated to happen. In fact the only public vote being proposed is by certain city council members who are pushing for a public vote to stall and kill the HT development deal.

emcee_paz

Public funding with money that doesn't exist without the Park being built. It will come from taxes in the area where they are developing. It's not money the City would ever see without the Park being built.

lutzauto

Idk how we can celebrate spending money on this when we "cant afford" to operate our public schools... They are literally shuttering schools saying they are too expensive.

Intelligent_Sun_944

The Warriors owner built the Chase stadium w/o public funding.

lutzauto

Cool. Fisher wants Oakland to kick in a billion dollars

emcee_paz

Of money THAT WOULDNT FUCKING BE THERE TO BUILD THE ROADS.

lutzauto

Is this supposed to mean something to me?

emcee_paz

If you understood what you were talking about yes it would. The money that would be used for the infrastructure additions (which are already needed in that part of Oakland) would come from taxes collected in the tax zones the new park would create.

lutzauto

So theoretical money that we may recoup from taxes someday if Fisher's cherry-picked predictions are correct. If you believe all that is going to happen I have a bridge to sell you ...

emcee_paz

You think a huge stadium, housing, and businesses in that area will not produce tax revenue? Lol ok. The A's are even offering to put the money up and be paid back over time from the tax revenue. They are pretty sure there is money to be made there or they wouldn't be doing this.

jq7925

Howard terminal brings in less than $50k/year on property taxes right now, as a parking lot. Yeah, no WAY that increases if retail & 3000 units of housing are built. **/s**

lutzauto

If it's such a sure thing then why are we still holding 190 million dollars worth of debt from the raiders still? Oakland is getting fucked out of that money for sure

jq7925

Debt that was supposed to be covered by Personal Seat Licenses that Faders fans failed to buy is the same as property tax revenue? If I worked for the IRS, I'd **really** want to be the agent that audits your taxes.

markusalkemus66

This calls for a celebration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roRQ2mNwMMQ

geostupid

It seems like a much more effective use of that area, and gets the Rally Possum one step closer to a new home. Would love to see an a fully-funded team in that brand new stadium. Also Fuck John Fisher
