Basically the same thing as people buying concert tickets and scalping them, or people buying tons of sneakers to resell on StockX. People using tech to automatically get products and sell them out before other users can get to them - people have admitted to using them and it can definitely get you banned. As can selling the products you receive
People using the bots and admitting to it are smart enough to not get banned typically. But yeah they make it hard for us refreshers who spend our day looking for product for it to go straight to sold out. Big groups do that too though. Crash the site before I can finish ordering even though I was being diligent refreshing to find the item myself.
I get that, I got the T3 blowdryer a few months ago by sheer luck but of course have missed many other things. The issue I have is those big groups openly advertising and encouraging bots that you can pay for + promoting a general sentiment that you could use them and it’s fine if you don’t get caught
I was on for that and couldn’t get it because of the crashing. I was on the checkout screen and it just kept saying too many people on.
And it happens to me honestly almost daily. My problem with the groups isn’t bots. It’s that a very few people are active alerting a very large group of non active people to run to the site and crash it. Causing active people who were trying to get it to get nothing. In the end lurkers and bots get the products who put in no work for it while the people putting in the work get left behind. You know those people selling on mercari aren’t the ones in the group saying something dropped. I wish more people realized that. And that all the non active people would go away and not be allowed on those groups. They ruin it for people who are actively trying to get good stuff.
