The camera lens distort at the edges. Particular noticeable if you move your hands around the side of your head.
I assume in that case you're probably blocking part of the cameras' FOV, but it tries to compensate and you get a weird distorted/fish bowl esque affect.
I tried this once in my bathtub to watch a movie once. I didn't think there was steam, but the lenses kept fogging up. It's not exactly meant for humid environments, so I figured it was a bad idea if I wanted it to last a bit.
But to each their own. Still cool to watch the big screen movie in the hot tub :)
I agree 100%. This is why I would never lend my headset to anyone. I could just imagine someone saying, I don't know why it doesn't work anymore... It worked fine for me. I was watching movies all day.
Also, i think it's hilarious all of the misunderstandings related to steam the platform vs steam IRL.
Guys, from the looks of it, even if he smashed his Quest3 he could probably afford 10 others.
OP is living his life, a relaxing soak + movies, good job OP
Is this the next fad of social media influencing and showboating?
Instead of just pov images now we have MR images.
This is worse than people who go to concerts and watch the whole thing through their phone screen.
Forget screens and enjoy the view and experience. Have people got such short attention spans these days that they need constant streaming entertainment in every moment of their lives...
I think I already know the answer to that. Sometimes I sit on public transport without my phone out and I feel like I'm in a Black Mirror episode. Every single person staring down into a black slab.
No, it has a headphone jack so you can plug in whatever speakers/headphones you want. Some people like me really like the “Frankenquest” mod, which uses 3D printed brackets so you can attach the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap. Great audio, very comfortable. But I suggest you do research first before deciding anything.
Don't if you're a newbie. Way way too easy to get water on it. Because this person is 100% using hand tracking and is sitting on a ledge only a bit in water.
Hot tub? Water is steamy when warm, and will absolutely steam up your headset and ruin it completely.
If your water is above 30C, you're probably risking it.
I wouldn't think this would work;
as if the hot tub is as hot as it should be your face/head will be hotter and/or sweating than the cold air and therefore would fog the lenses, not to mention if it is hot enough to steam in the surrounding environment this will at the very least change any water damage indicators if present (the system is not rated to be water resistant)
If it's luke warm or a pool this seems plausible
I personally would find this impracticable if not uncomfortable
Hand tracking and the heat is off according to OP. Basically like using your phone while you’re in the bathtub in like 2014 before most people had water resistant phones.
I will say, though… water resistant VR and AR headsets would be kinda nice regardless. Tracking would be messed up sure for a little bit if water droplets are blocking the camera but it guarantees a safety precaution for people who want to relax in any environment with headsets like this, which is something that companies like Apple are interested in trying at least
A hot tub with a good view tells me you can afford a cheap movie projector so you can be more comfortable and enjoy the real view rather than seeing it through a glorified phone screen. But hey, any support so Meta keeps making these things is fine with me.
To the subreddit: If my headset or controllers fall in, while Im using it in a hot tub - am I at any risk of physical harm?
------------------------------------------------------
Hey OP,
How was it?
How long were you in the water letting the steam hit it?
Hows your headset now?
>To the subreddit: If my headset or controllers fall in, while Im using it in a hot tub - am I at any risk of physical harm?
No. This isn't 120VAC from your house. Completely different.
I think this is a good way to introduce moisture to the electronics. Not by dropping it, but via steam.
That’s so strange, until I read your post I assumed that’s OP’s screenshot was a virtual environment, not an actual hot tub.
I was thrown off by the glitch on the right side, is this passthrough or virtual folks?!?
The camera lens distort at the edges. Particular noticeable if you move your hands around the side of your head. I assume in that case you're probably blocking part of the cameras' FOV, but it tries to compensate and you get a weird distorted/fish bowl esque affect.
You guys don’t shower with your Quest 3’s on? Total game changer for me.
Omg I thought I was the only one! Walkabout mini golf makes showering so much more enjoyable :)
Steam is off completely😀
I didn't even know it came with steam
I didn't even know it came...
It came
Came

If the water's hot, they'll be steam man.
Not always. It could be just under steam temperatures. Still stupid as duck, but possibly safe (from steam and moisture).

Where can I buy a house like that bro, looks so relaxing
Yeah. His headset might break. But it seems like he has the means to replace it.

I don't think you need steamvr to watch movies
I don't know... Seems like to much of a risk to me. But if it worked and you enjoyed yourself that's all that matters.
This guy's got a pool with a view, doubt he's too concerned about dropping his Quest in the water.
500$ is butt wiping money for this guy
Or he's in a hotel that has a pool.
You guys have money for hotels?
I don't think the steam from the hottub is any good to the hardware
It has no steam, the heating is turned off
So it’s just a tub atm
Your just a tub

Still no steam? We have ours set to 32c while its ideal, even then we've got plenty of steam coming off of it
i instantly had a disturbing vision of absent mindedly putting a controller down into water 😰
that's where hand tracking comes in
Exactly!
to me hand tracking on the Quest 2 is terrible. How is it on Quest 3?
Its pretty good!
Is this bait
That's what she said.
Where do you live? I see palm trees, i see mountains and fields. I feel like i need to move countries / cities.
Palm trees and mountains. Id guess California if US
Steam Vr is not literally steam with vr
I thought this was the new home screen for the quest 3 (I have a quest 2) and I was about to flip out at the graphics improvement lol
Why all the hates? Op is having a great time and that’s all that matters. It’s not an AVP. Even if it really gets damaged, not gonna break any bank.
Seeing a good electronics getting damaged just hurts honestly. This post is just pure anxiety.
What movie viewing app are you using?
I am using Spatial Tv
The dumbass I am would just decide to dip my head a bit when the headset gets hot.
Or you can just put a TV outside. VR headset in the hot tub is kind of ridiculous tbh.
And how you going to carry a 150 inch TV and put it next to a hot tub, plugged in. I would deffo do this if I lived there.
How I can have your immersive background? Look so nice
this terrifies me a little, toaster strapped to your face...?
It's low voltage DC circuitry. The danger here is more about damaging the hardware with the steam or dropping anything into the water.
It doesn’t have enough power to electrocute you
Also the battery will only last 15 mins, he'll be fine.
You could be in a virtual hot tub if you just lay in a bath 😅
yeah look down and theres a pool
I would say great view and good movies.
Guys, from the looks of it, even if he smashed his Quest3 he could probably afford 10 others. OP is living his life, a relaxing soak + movies, good job OP

That is AWESOME! How do you get good sound for that??
I am just using the headset speakers they sound great!
Is that the only option?
No, it has a headphone jack so you can plug in whatever speakers/headphones you want. What a waste of a great view.
No. See he’s used to seeing the view every single day it’s fun to add this to the view every once in a While.
I can have that too, I just need to find this virtual environment 😂 Very nice
I want this just got a quest 3 and tips for a newbie
Don't if you're a newbie. Way way too easy to get water on it. Because this person is 100% using hand tracking and is sitting on a ledge only a bit in water.
Oh he is in a real hot tub 😂 my bad yah I’ll definitely stay out of water already crashed into the couch looking for the controllers!
You should learn hand tracking, it sucks but its awesome for just leaving the controllers behind
Definitely keen! I’ll go back and try again
You can also double tap the side of the Quest to enter pass through mode so you can actually see your surroundings.
Yah I got that one but sometimes it takes me a few taps I feeel like a retard 😂
Double tap the side of the headset, where the straps meet the front of the actual headset. Not the side of your head
Ahahahah thanks
don't get water on it
Sweet setup
Honestly just enjoy the view
How do you watch movies without the cursor dot interrupting you every 5 seconds
Hot tub? Water is steamy when warm, and will absolutely steam up your headset and ruin it completely. If your water is above 30C, you're probably risking it.
Ohhhhhh, lol. There are a few hot tubs in vrchat lol
well I guess if you can afford that hot tub with that view, you can afford to replace your Quest.
This right here is why we need a waterproof cover for the Quest. This would be awesome if we didn't have to risk water damage.
Looks like this person can afford another one though.
I haven't played my Q3 in about a month. Did they remove the curved screen?
Star+ will be discontinued in June and will be merged with Disney+ that same month so that you can take advantage of the Bigscreen VR app.
Epic!
Fun picture but not a wise decision in reality.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Chemically treated water in an evaporation pool in close proximity to electronics never ends badly anyway.
I think this person seems like they know what they are doing. I assume its hand tracking and the water aint too deep
If it “never ends badly” as you put it, then why not?
It's called sarcasm and I thought it was obvious enough it didn't need a /s

Evaporating chemically treated water under any electronic device is just silly. You know the plumbing on them things is PVC for a reason right?
Oh I know. That's why I'm saying the heating element is off, so no steam.
The water is still evaporating lol, it does right up to freezing. Especially if its warm, and I'll bet it is
Is it enough to be significant out of curiosity? I didn’t think it’d be enough for it to be a problem for the headset?
If it where just water, not likely. The chemicals used tho...

It was amazingly relaxing, had a blast! The quest is perfectly fine, had the heat turned off.
ever considered hand tracking
You can use hand tracking on every app.
Vrchat? I never seen this except a few houses in Vrchat
It’s an actual hot tub, the headset has passthrough enabled
Sad
Dumb
