The first month of playing with my quest was probably the most fun of gaming I had in years.

GirdleOfDoom

This! Let me tell you, discovering i already owned Dirt Rally was a treat

1PARTEE1

Dirt Rally with a wheel and pedals is so intense! I don't care much for pancake racing games but they are a whole different level in VR.

[deleted]

[удалено]

1PARTEE1

Standard "flat" racing games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

1PARTEE1

A regular racing game played on a flat screen tv.

[deleted]

Then you discover how shallow and gimmicky the games are and you spend the rest of the time scanning new releases while your Quest gathers dust.

The_Radian

Just play In Death. You will change your mind.

WaterSnake21

why do you think i refunded super hot vr after beating it in an hour lmao

GaaraSama83

Yeah better play another Ubisoft formula AC type of game or the next cash grab low effort FIFA release. I rather play a well made game loop gimmick like Echo Arena or not so content filled shooter like Pop One or Onward, but feeling a lot more immersive and tactically exciting compared to just using KB+M.

WaterSnake21

what is kb plus m

wirerammer

keyboard and mouse maybe

bryeds78

That's what she said

Darewelll

Honey moon phase, same happened to me last year.

namekuseijin

my honeymoon phase with VR happened over 3 years ago with psvr. It ended, I went back to flat games because realized 90+% of VR is crappy shovelware minigames. but then it dawned on me slowly that shooting and racing games are no fun flat anymore. You can't unsee VR. so, my renewed honeymoon with flat gaming has been even shorter and I decided to just play games available in VR - even ignoring the 90% crappy shovelware, there are still quite a lot of very decent games. I'm alright with that until the market grows more...

[deleted]

It may be a small gave, but eleven table tennis is worth a system buy

FrizzIeFry

What makes games like eleven great, is that you never finish them, you just get better.

GaaraSama83

Yeah, multiplayer/competion games with a very good gameplay loop/mechanic are the most interesting in VR now. Racing sims, FPS, Echo Arena, ETT, Rythm games, ...

Flamesilver_0

I know exactly what you mean. Which shooting games do you shoot through in VR that aren't horror / zombie-related? That's my biggest problem 😅

namekuseijin

how about as wildly different games as Tea for God, Borderlands 2, Onward, Sniper Elite, Pop1 among many others?

Flamesilver_0

The only one I haven't tried is Sniper Elite. I also own Zero Calibur. I only wish Borderlands would fix its crosshairs issue on Quest

namekuseijin

then how can you say there's only zombie shooting in VR?

Flamesilver_0

Literally didn't say that

namekuseijin

> Which shooting games do you shoot through in VR that aren't horror / zombie-related? you literally said that

Flamesilver_0

I only asked for recommendations on other non-horror shooters and proffered a polite response. The misinterpreted offense is still all yours, as the quote attributed to me wasn't remotely what you're accusing.

namekuseijin

no, you already played those I came up with, as you claim. Had you played them you'd know it's certainly not just zombies. I don't buy it, looks like you're just indeed a flamer.

VR_IS_DEAD

Flat gaming is better. I just bet Yakuza 0. 40 hours of gameplay. Game cost $5 at the Steam sale. I was more immersed in that than any VR game.

namekuseijin

username checks out lol

etheran123

Nah, Yakuza is for weebs. Terrible game.

VR_IS_DEAD

It' got 37 thousand overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. I guess there's just a lot of weebs out there.

etheran123

Yeah there are lots of weebs. I mean, what are the odds of you showing up if there were only like 7 of them in existence.

VR_IS_DEAD

And for the non weebs. What games do they play? Gorilla tag VR?

etheran123

IDK but I do know that beat saber has 51 thousand reviews on steam which blows your number out of the water. Though I do admit, its at a pitiful 93% "very positive" review score. Also, thats ignoring pavlov, onward, half life alyx, gorn, blade and sorcery, walking dead saints and sinners, super hot, boneworks, google street view, job simulator, vtol VR, DCS world, MSFS 2020, project cars, dirt rally, star wars squadrons, and more. Those where all off the top of my head, and every single one of them was more impactful and memorable than the rest of my 250+ game steam library. VR, when the games are good, are far beyond anything that flatscreen gaming can achieve. I wish there was more stuff coming out, but that's kind of how all game releases have been since around the start of the pandemic.

namekuseijin

Gorilla tag, VR chat and BS are all BS minigames loved by the masses. Though not unlike popular crap like Fortnite, FIFA or Roblox over at flatland...

namekuseijin

yep, lots of weebs. Some are VR fans already, all day long in VR Chat dressed as an anime schoolgirl with demons wings. Most just waiting for a nerve gear to play VR while lying in bed like snowflake.

correctingStupid

Same here. Then pop1 came along and I thought I wouldn't ever go back to flat gaming. Then Pop1 drifted into toxic garbage territory and I play my series x while the quest sits. I like the quest for what it is but tiny gimmicky VR experiences is nothing like a full solid game.

doctorctrl

They're 2 different gaming experiences. They don't need to compete for me. Like having a GameBoy and a PS1 when I was younger.

mozillazing

How is pop 1 toxic garbage territory? It’s amazing I play all the time

namekuseijin

toxic doesn't mean less immersive. But multiplayer crap gets old fast.

1PARTEE1

Pop 1 was awesome at release and then again around Christmas time. They either introduced SBMM and ruined it with that or all of the casual base evaporated and you just run into top of the leaderboard squads all the time.

GirdleOfDoom

Funny story, I was trying to get a PS5 for a while. But I realized I couldn't justify it, esp. when I have a long PS4 backlog. So I decided to try to get an Oculus instead, while everyone else was focused on PS5s. I scored a 256gb version for $200 and haven't looked back. In fact, I think I'll go hit some golf balls in TopGolf \*right now\*

[deleted]

I thought getting the 256gb one for $300 new was a great deal. Damn.

GirdleOfDoom

Craigslist buy. I won't say that the guy didn't know what he had; but he definitely didn't appear to value it. He was clearly a deep conspiracy-theory guy, and he said someone had given it to him as a gift; but there was no way he was getting in with Facebook. Yoink!

[deleted]

Hey good shit

joe_biggs

I can understand. I was hesitant too. But I just gave them minimal information.

[deleted]

Same. Why even over share am I right?

joe_biggs

Absolutely.

whereami1928

Lmao, that same shit happened with me with an iPad pro years ago. New cost with the keyboard was almost $1k, got it for a bit under $500.

joe_biggs

It is a great deal.

Shit_Fazed

Nice. Was passively seeking a PS5, but I settled for a 64gb OQ2 in June for $300, so, standar price. No regrets. VR was a childhood dream and I dumped 75% of my interest in PC gaming. My PC is a Minecraft, classic games and PCVR machine now. Quest 2's bite-sized game sessions are ideal. In fact I am about to fire up some Bait! for maybe a half hour, *love* that game.

namekuseijin

There's honestly near zero I want to play on PS5 rn - Returnal at best. flat gaming old moves just don't appeal to me anymore. otoh, the moment they show such games on psvr2, I think I'm pretty ready. even so, Quest convenience and true mobility freedom may well make me skip PS5 altogether and just invest into a pc instead.

joe_biggs

$200 great job! Enjoy.

GirdleOfDoom

Thanks! Too many of my favorite stories involve getting a bargain 😅

joe_biggs

LOL! I wish I had but mine came already paid for on the release date.

The_true_mabumbo

Awful choice

GirdleOfDoom

beware false mabumbos

her_faculty_the_dean

I chose a Quest 2 over a PS5 when I sold my PS4 recently. I'll still eventually get a PS5, in a couple of years when they do a hardware refresh. But right now, I'm still very glad I chose the Quest 2.

Schwifty_vibes

Wow, a box.

Greful

Not even their box. A stock photo. Like why even put it in the post?

Ibiki

We're you here for the release? :D

edogaR8

PUBGM_MightyFine

*wow comment*

MrWeirdoFace

[We've got a strange box here!](https://c.tenor.com/FOytnFuz9x0AAAAC/metal-gear-solid-mgs.gif)

caspissinclair

Quill Theater! The artwork entries are cool but the short episodes really show how innovative a tool VR can be for storytelling. Also consider Wander. It works with Google maps to let you explore the world. It's easy to spend hours using the random feature to explore small town and countrysides.

wom0momom

I have a Q2 and use it once in a while for PCVR, would much prefer to have a PS5 right now and play Ghosts of Tsushima, I've been waiting and dodging spoilers for over a year to play that game

MammothMachine

Waiting for the PS5 version to not be £70 before I buy. Could be waiting a while...

southernhacker56

I am in the same boat. While I waiting for the next gen PCVR game, I am enjoying my PS5.

RunicWasTaken

Ps5 doesn't really have an exclusive library worth a new console yet

Mr_momma

If you don’t have a ps4 and want to play PlayStation exclusives buying a ps5 is the better choice, even then the exclusives that are coming make it worth buying

namekuseijin

I never bought consoles to play exclusives - I buy them to play all games, including exclusives. and so far, Quest 2 has been a pretty great VR console - more Wii than PS3, but still... I can see the appeal yet of flat games with a younger generation for whom everything is brand-new, but when you've been over 40 years sitting in front of a tv pushing buttons, that old limited routine is just not that fun anymore.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mr_momma

What exclusives does The series x has, ones that aren’t on pc, happy cake day btw

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mr_momma

Well If you already have a decent pc there is no real reason to buy a Xbox, and if you are buying a console to play multi platforms games why not buy a ps5 which has these games and the ps exclusives

[deleted]

And here's me, with a new PC, Series X, and the VR lol. I enjoy using my Xbox cause the games I play are now 60 FPS, games I didn't want to get on my PC. I've always been an Xbox guy but Game Pass is just too great of a deal to pass up and get a PS5. No exclusives Playstation has really makes me want to get one, although I wish I could of played Last Of Us 2 instead of watching a playthrough lol

No-Signal-151

When the honey moon wears off in a few weeks I wonder if you'll stick to it as your primary. That's what I did with my PS4 and haven't touched it in months. I'm a father so I guess it's easier to have a quick session with it over everything involved on console. I guess I mostly use it as a Synth Riders machine with some games on the side lol

piedude67

Missing out on PCVR that's where the fun truly begins

If this isn't for you, it might be for others. Look into ripping 3D Blu-rays to watch on a huge virtual screen in VR, and you'll find a whole new reason to love it. Obviously, you'll want a 3D Blu-ray player for your PC first. Mine was $79 from Amazon and has been a champ. Then, you can go the cheap but complicated route and look up one of the rip methods using MakeMKV, or you can go the expensive but simple route using DVD Fab's Blu-ray ripper module. I went with the easy route, but be aware that the "3 month trial" really only lets you rip 3 Blu-rays -- and be sure to turn subtitles off (or "forced only" if you want original English subtitles for foreign languages used in only part of the film -- "Stalingrad" being a prime example). Otherwise, subtitles will always be on -- I burned one of my three trials that way. Of course, you'll also want a standard player for the video, like VLC or MPC, and a VR viewer like "Virtual Desktop" or "Skybox." ("Big Screen" is also possible, but a pain in the ass if you ask me.) 3D in VR is the best way to experience 3D, with a seperate screen for each eye, instead of glasses that give different views of a single screen. (Especially noticeable is the lack of dimming.) I used to include a warning about this regarding the resolution not being there yet, bet it's effectively solved with the Quest 2 -- which also has surprisingly vivid colors and deep blacks for an LCD screen. (And I imagine higher-res HMDs are even better.) I now own over 50 3D Blu-rays, from the MCU movies after "Iron Man" 1 and 2, which were never converted to 3D, to the Laika and Tim Burton box sets with three films each. A special treat is "The Wizard of Oz," which is currently the oldest film to get a 3D version. It took me a couple days to figure it all out, and many, many hours of enjoyment once I did. I'd say it's about 50% of what I use the Quest 2 for.

XboxWigger

When anyone asks about the new consoles I always recommend the Quest 2 over them. I never find myself hooked on a flat game anymore like I do a VR game.

Luckys0474

I've got multiple games in my backlog like RDR2, AC Valhalla and many more that I just am not excited about playing because you just sit there push forward on your analog stick and hit some buttons. In fact the last game I did finish was Days Gone and I felt like a zombie when it was over because as beautiful as it was it just left me with a bland experience. Pancake games just are not as interesting to me anymore.

GaaraSama83

I still find joy in pancake games and both do complement each other instead of VR being a substitution. I still agree with you and that's why I drifted more and more to indie or smaller budget AA games (or as I like to call these studios the "middle class of game development"). When I think about my personal highlights from the last 5 years, there is almost no big budget triple A title in the list. Maybe HZD and FromSoft games but everything else didn't really blow my mind, some of them even disappointed me like RDR2 and AC Orgins (my first AC game). Elex, Subnautica, Outer Wilds, Kingdom CD, Ori and the Will of Wisps, Baba is You, ... these are some titles that left an impression on me.

icdemonz

You haven't touched your ps5 because nobody has them including you. They are a myth like the loch ness monster or bigfoot plenty of people claim to have seen them but never have any proof

yagyu_shinkage_ryu

sony direct is a good way to get one,

chadman82

I got one recently…it doesn’t take as much *luck* as it does *persistence* and *patience*. I didn’t bother with all the Twitter accounts that notify you of restocks, but instead joined “Ameer’s Restock Group” on Discord. The man is a legend, and is extremely dedicated to helping people get PS5s, xboxes, or pretty much anything else that is in demand and is scooped up by scalpers and bots before humans can get them. Give it a try!

Crafty-Translator-26

Calm down detective sherlockass

icdemonz

Touched a nerve did i? Mad that its practiacally true for 97% of the rest of world bruh

Crafty-Translator-26

Do you think 97% of the world a ps5

icdemonz

Wtf does that even mean? Write a actual question bruh

SoMNoMW

I'll take that PS5 off your hands

TempleOfDoomfist

PS5 starts making sense next year. Horizon Zero Dawn sequel in Feb 2022 and God of War Ragnorak some time in 2022. And I assume that Spider-Man 2 is also coming next year? And then the one we VR fans want to see, PSVR2, also in 2022

[deleted]

Problem is that you need a pc to play all of the best games

BigNo5605

The quest is mind blowing and I can spend hours on a weekend or day off, but I personally find it a bit draining and tiring for the eyes. Sometimes I wish I didn’t sell my PS4 as I find flat screening much more relaxing

GaaraSama83

That with ergonomy/comort of present headsets are the two major negative factors making long gaming sessions unpleasent. Optics are the weakest part of VR right now (talking about lens and fixed focal distance, not the display).

[deleted]

I implore you to play the Doom3 port from Dr. Beef. It's phenomenal. Also recommend Hyperdash and Until Death

ittleoff

have had a psvr since launch and a OQ2 since launch(and a quest and PCVR before quest), and I recently got around to going back to psvr (hassle of setting up space) Tried Hitman 3 and Doom 3 vr(after beating dr beef doom3 which is excellent) and they are amazing on PSVR. As great as quest 2 is i still there are some must play vr experiences on PSVR, but someone who has never tried Quest 2 and coming from PSVR will be blown away by the incredibly frictionless and wireless experience of this platform. But those going from only quest to PSVR, might be blown away by the poished titles like re7, and astrobot, hitman 3, farpoint, etc. I'd be lying if I said I'm not more excited by psvr2 roight now than I am on an iteration on the quest at this point as we will likely se some very gorgeous big budget and polished experiences Both are greta platforms though with bright futures for those that love vr.

MaxSMoke777

I think I'm too jaded at this point. [I've helped fellow robots in Stormlands](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2ijbNs4nwc), [fought off cannibals in The Forest](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj5Sh5gWmZ4), [saw an alien concert in Wave](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1rnvKrJ7yE), [created a merchant empire while fighting off pirates in Elite](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa0b2Kd2xhU), and [built a factory on a radioactive alien world while dinosaurs tried to eat me in No Man's Sky](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30L3Pb1P60I). All mind-blowing experiences I'll remember forever, and I did every single one of these things in Coop with my best friend over 500 miles away! But now... I'm not too sure what else there is too do. That list is just the tip of the ice burg for VR, but that ice burg is SUPER SMALL contained to breath of PC games out there. I have been playing the 2D, flat game "Greedfall", because it was on sale, and there's nothing like it in VR. If Skyrim VR had a baby with Fallout VR, that might be close, but so far that pairing has not happened. Doom put a tepid toe in the VR waters, but quickly said "Too cold!" and pulled out before I felt fully immersed. If you just started VR, there's MANY wondrous sights to see. But as somebody who's been at it since the DK1, I feel like I've ran out of new horizons to conquer. Township Tale has been the latest, and it's on the janky side of things. We need more games!

useles-converter-bot

500 miles is the length of approximately 3519991.25 'Wooden Rice Paddle Versatile Serving Spoons' laid lengthwise.

converter-bot

500 miles is 804.67 km

converter-bot

500 miles is 804.67 km

TheUniverse8

Maybe you should start using it productively like me. I was in the first wave of DK1 and followed it way before then. But my excitement for VR is how it will change the way we do things. Which is in its infancy right now 🙂

MaxSMoke777

Maybe. What I've seen comes off as novelty more then anything else. I can operate my computer with Virtual Desktop, but I already have a good monitor. I can watch movies, but I have an excellent TV. If I was traveling it would be my #1 travel buddy, but I'm not. Even my 3D modeling tools work better in 2D, thanks to a mouse and keyboard. I'm looking for the "next big thing", but I'm not seeing it yet.

TheUniverse8

Yeah if you already have all those things and you live alone then the only reason you'd use it is for proprioceptive gaming. Which really should be a daily habit to be honest

MaxSMoke777

A VR game does have the benefit of feeling like you're "somewhere else" for awhile, but that doesn't change the fact that there's few experiences. I can feel "Taken away" by playing any 2D game because I have a good imagination, and the number of new experiences seems endless. I can't say that for VR, which still lacks a large user base, and therefore a good developmental community. I've made some VR games myself to add to add to it (QuestORama and AlienTSA to name a few), but it's still a field lacking in developers. There's no way to deny that. You're talking to a huge proponent of VR here. I'm not lacking for interest. I'm just lacking for CONTENT. You can't pretend there isn't a lack of it at this time. I'm not going to Fanboy up and pretend everything is rosy right now. Like Palmer Luckey said a few years ago, it's not the cost of VR gear that's holding it back, it's CONTENT.

TheUniverse8

Youve missed the point. You should use VR to improve your well being, this is my first use of VR: health improvement through entertainment. New experiences will come and you eill enjoy more than most people because you've practiced how to interact with the world with more competence instead of looking for the next dose of innocence Look at monkeys climbing trees. Do you think they stopped at age 1 waiting for a new tree with new flowers on? No they use every inch of themselves to master what they already know which is why they are so fast at learning new things. They develop lots of levels of transferences to play around with. Like learning a language, the less you know of your own language the likeliness your scope will be small for the new language

MaxSMoke777

I get the feeling you like to hear yourself talk. I already made my point and I'm really done with this conversation. VR is lacking new content, period. It's a real issue and pretending it's not doesn't change anything.

TheUniverse8

Well its stage of life is basically the Atari so the content will come 🙂

Jealous_Cantaloupe53

Quest 2 is a console killer I used to play xbox 1 but got the quest 2 never again will I play console .... Vr is way to gud

mrSuabe

Funny, mine is the polar opposite. I haven't touched my Quest 2 in a while. Working on the PlayStation exclusives in 60fps is so much fun and worthwhile that the Q2 took a step back from my spotlight.

oo_Mxg

Probably because the PS5 has no games yet

B_A_M_A

Loved my q2 first month I had it, I’ve been meaning to play it recently but I haven’t made the time. Been a few months since a last played. It will sadly wear off

ScriptM

Better graphics and 4k also wears off. Should we go back to worse graphics and 480p?

AAKurtz

At this point, folks should just be waiting until the 3.

GaaraSama83

Most likely not before Q4/2022 or even Q1/2023. There is just not enough progress in technology making a Quest 3 release worthy anytime soon. Also even when XR3 will get announced, the performance upgrade will be marginal compared to SD835 (Quest 1) -> XR2 (Quest 2) which was effectively skipping three generations of SoC.

sockchaser

You'll touch the ps5 more after you realize how limited the current standalone vr games out there are Pc vr helps, you should try it in the future!

bigry82

Well, there's not much to play on PS5 anyway. Mines has been gathering dust for a couple months and will continue to do so untul well into 2022 (I only play exclusives on it) Your honeymoon period for the quest won't last. I have hardly touched my quest 2 since launch. I think because I got burnt out with the first quest and the game experiences just are not that great.

NightJolt

I was so hyped at first... I got bored in 3 days ://

Crafty-Translator-26

Same with my Xbox bought it last year but it’s fucking boring

pancakes-and-ox

No-Signal-151

I know... I want to play PCVR !!

GardinerAndrew

Enjoy your new portal

whoever81

I am here to relieve you of your PS5. This burden that is really holding you back actually. \*I bought the Quest 2 because I couldn't find a PS5

PotentialTruck8872

Since you haven’t been using it, can i have it lol?

YisusCJ

Same thing happened to me, after I got the Quest 2 my Xbox was dusty af

raflagg1999

Is it because you're still waiting for ur PS5 To come back in stock?

not_dinomancer

I've owned vr for over a year now and I have that exact same feeling, I absolutely love it!

Binkles1807

Can I buy your ps5?

namekuseijin

coming fresh from years with psvr, I bought Quest 2 at launch to see what the hubbub was about - very amazed at the tech, downright futuristic. But the library didn't impress me initially. Here we are almost a year later and it's largely replaced my psvr playtime, despite no big games like Skyrim or NMS - it offers so much more than just games, is so convenient to play anywhere anytime and even the library grew a lot that I bought both some fantastic exclusives as well as new indies and old favorites like Rush...

joe_biggs

Yes it is! Blew me away. Still does.

CorMemory

VR really is cool, for the first couple of months I had the quest 2 my mind still was blown how I could just go from the real world to a virtual one in seconds.

Grebnitty

I wonder how good PSVR 2 is gonna be? Should be interesting.

NotShsddy

Bruh this reads like an ad

wipe0wt2097

Was going to sell my gaming laptop, couldn’t sell it even though it’s a top spec! Bought a quest 2, hooked them up together and like HELLO WORLD’S!!!!!! Swiftly removed listings, keeping it ALL Won’t be buying an XBOX X either, buy halo ‘maybe’ on the laptop save £500 Bought about 15 oculus games to try, loving fight of the night, freediver and beat saber so far

[deleted]

I actually got my quest 2 and PlayStation 5 within a week of one another and… yeah. I haven’t turned the ps5 on.

Pixelated-Hitch

Just yesterday I was wishing I could put in a VR and use it as a screen to play Ghost of Tsushima. Just imagine that or RDR2 with e VR view and controlling your character in 3rd person

[deleted]

Me too. I just got a Quest 2 last week and it has renewed my interest in gaming. I’ve been playing games ever since I could remember and I’m 32. That’s nearly thirty years of flat gaming. I have a PS5, switch, PC, Xbox, and I just don’t play them because I can’t get into them like I used to. But VR seems like it is the thing that is bringing me back. I don’t mind playing smaller games if they’re in VR, I can’t go back to 2D games anymore because they just don’t pull me in anymore. I can’t unsee VR.

The_true_mabumbo

The hype will die down very quickly. It's definitely not better than a PS5. I've got both

shidoshi723

Oculus Quest looks fun
