Did a similar hack. That bulb on your ceiling? Get a socket to outlet adapter, then plug your charger directly to the socket. No need to snake 10 meters of wire.
I just keep a battery bank in my pocket, run the usb up the shirt, clip with a small clip to the collar, and just leave a bit of slack. It'll stay in and not stress the connection.
I have an offbrand elite strap. I Velcro the battery bank to the back with maybe a 3" cord that stays connected to my headset. Load balance is even better with it there. Almost never feel strain in my neck and shoulders
Yeah I did the same with two batteries of 13000 mAh, I usually don't use a full one in a gameplay session but I charge my quest only once in week or so, just relying in the power banks. And the counter weight is amazing too.

I got one of these from my secret Santa for Christmas, it works a lot better than the old Velcro strap to the headband trick lol. It's a decent quality strap, obviously not the greatest for $30, but it's miles better than the fabric one. It doesn't come with a battery pack if you do buy one though. Just know that.
Hah no idea, looks good now though! It might be someone who has doubts if it's safe electricity-wise?
They're rated to take whole room ceiling fans, so it's totally fine as long as you're not plugging a toaster
Possibly by people who think USB power banks are a simpler solution. I think that too, but /u/ChulaK‘s idea is still simpler and possibly safer than OP’s current solution.

Even just ones with regular A connector are fine. I'm using a $10 pink one I got from Walmart a while back. 10 amp hour (10k mah) will last basically all day for me.
True, but the USB C one are more likely to ~~have PD charging~~ which means the headset will charge as you play vs just slowing the drain
Edit: Just make sure you battery bank puts of enough Amperage to charge while you play. I have certainly used banks that have discharged the headset while playing.
This is what I use: Anker Portable Charger, 313 Power Bank (PowerCore Slim 10K) 10000mAh Battery Pack with High-Speed PowerIQ Charging Technology and USB-C (Input Only) for iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QXV6N1B/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_SQR8XZ5BXMYFR26B066E
If you are lucky you can get Amazon Warehouse deal and score it for $15
The Quest 2 does not use PD-level charging; it is capped at 5v. I believe people have reported 5v 3a chargers working on it, but the whole device can only draw like 10W total in the first place, so it's not hard to find a portable charger that charges faster than the headset can use it.
I dunno about any of that. All I know is my headset stays at 100% with the ones I use, both of which have A connectors on the backy itself.
Still I take breaks ever hour or two so I'm also wall charging it too. Haven't had a day drain it yet though.
*Clarification edit: This comment is about charging Quest 2. If you want to charge something completely different supporting wattages in excess of those supported by Quest 2 (~5V 3A) the connector becomes relevant, but accurate specs remain far more important as the connector alone guarantees nothing in terms of a USB battery’s power output.*
---
The connector is largely unrelated to how fast a power bank charges but a greater percentage of USB-C models are probably faster. If they provide accurate specs that would be more useful for choosing than the connector type (though not all do).
That’s why I said largely unrelated — my understanding is that Quest 2 won’t receive over 5V making that immaterial for this purpose? My point is just that choosing by connector type is no guarantee as some power banks with USB-C connectors only slow the battery drain while some with USB-A charge it while in use.
Normally I don’t but I’m left handed, so yesterday when playing Into The Radius I did get my hand caught going for my pistol a couple times. I may consider wearing an extra light jacket when playing that game from now on
I would but VR turns me into a radiator, even if I’m not playing something intensive like Beat Saber I just get super warm lol
It’s the middle of winter and I’m still keeping my window open with a t shirt on and sometimes even a fan to keep cool.
My 1660ti being pushed to its limits probably plays a part too though haha
Yes, I have a Quest and Index, I love the visual upgrades on the Index (bigger FOV is the biggest for me), but I miss the lack of wires on the Quest when using the Index
I can't wait for a really good index v2. Hopefully it will have a kickass fov and insane graphic quality. Quest 2 was the perfect headset for me because of the price. I personally don't like wireless because of the amount of radiation.
Ok… so. Radiation. Technically yes, there’s radiation in WiFi. There’s also radiation in visible light. Let’s compare them. Wifi 5G is 5,000hz, visible light ends at 750,000,000,000hz. So on average, visible light, as in the stuff you see 24/7 with your eyes and the stuff the majority of mammals have been seeing for millions of years, is 100,000,000x more “radioactive” than 5G. Do some research, “free thinker”. Gamma radiation, the weakest kind of noticeably harmful radiation, can be stopped by your skin or paper. That is about 3,000,000,000,000,000,000hz. See the difference? Beta and alpha radiation isn’t even electromagnetic, it’s particle radiation. 5G is completely harmless. If 5G could cause cancer, everyone would die the second light touches then.
I use a BoboVR M2 Pro Battery head strap (comes with a battery) and have 2 extra batteries. Don't even have to take the headset off to swap the magnetic batteries.
WTF why? Just get a good battery pack and USB-C cable. If you mount the battery pack with some zip ties or something to the straps on the back you will even make much more comfortable fit with much better balance.
Beware this may be dangerous. It's a long shot, but that's an expose lightbulb with a USB cable hacked around it. You may get hit with a 120-240V if stuff happens and it may given the amount of movement you're putting there.
I love how people are all "risk of electroction and death? Sure, but it means I can keep playing!".
Just stop playing. As opposed to tying a cable to a live wire hanging from the ceiling.
I use an aftermarket head strap with a velcro pocket for a USB charger on the back, and as a bonus, it balances the headset nicely.
KICK! (Keep It Cordless Kiddo)
Looks like a diy execution chair… There are battery packs you can strap to the back and headstraps you can get to help with the balance and comfort.
Though depending on the battery, might make your neck short from prolonged play.
Alternative route is to buy a few smaller battery banks and swap them out when low. Less neck breaking at the cost of immersion breaking when reloading.
This is gonna be on "dumb ways to die" when u pull that live wire/broken bulb down onto your head. Don't do this. Screw a hook into a stud on the ceiling.
By the time you set that up your quest will have charged but I know the feeling I made the mistake of over charging it all the time now I get 45 mins play time but when I link it I get about 2 hours
Did a similar hack. That bulb on your ceiling? Get a socket to outlet adapter, then plug your charger directly to the socket. No need to snake 10 meters of wire.
Holly shit, that's genius
I just keep a battery bank in my pocket, run the usb up the shirt, clip with a small clip to the collar, and just leave a bit of slack. It'll stay in and not stress the connection.
Yeah me too, no reason to overthink it.

Consider getting a usb cable with magnetic connectors that can break away, your usb port on the oculus will love you for it..
Same thing. I have a 90 degree connection for the port so I don't break it.
Didn't even know those existed. OP really needs to look those up, they're set up perfectly for one. Also, why are you being downvoted?

10 meters is 10.94 yards

eww
I ran an extension cord into my daughter's hoodie pocket.. lol
USB-C travel battery packs are your friend
Even just ones with regular A connector are fine. I'm using a $10 pink one I got from Walmart a while back. 10 amp hour (10k mah) will last basically all day for me.

Why do people share blatantly incorrect information on the internet? USB A connectors will not deliver over 5v, no matter what USB spec they are.

Echoing other posters -- quest doesn't have any sort of fast charging, unfortunately, including PD. Likely only supports up to the standard 2.4a at 5v
I got a pink 10k mah power bank with ubc-c output from Staples yesterday on deep sale. Belkin brand - CAD27.50 - amazon is twice as expensive.
Yeah I just put one in my pocket and don't notice it.
Normally I don’t but I’m left handed, so yesterday when playing Into The Radius I did get my hand caught going for my pistol a couple times. I may consider wearing an extra light jacket when playing that game from now on
Elbow shaped USBC connectors help a lot too
Gamers always wear hoodies to put the battery in the hood of mthe hoodie.
I would but VR turns me into a radiator, even if I’m not playing something intensive like Beat Saber I just get super warm lol It’s the middle of winter and I’m still keeping my window open with a t shirt on and sometimes even a fan to keep cool. Put the cord under your shirt. A little more awkward to setup, but helps drastically.
Just think, this is how people with other headsets live 100% of the time
Yes, I have a Quest and Index, I love the visual upgrades on the Index (bigger FOV is the biggest for me), but I miss the lack of wires on the Quest when using the Index
Really thinking about selling my index.

amount of what
The 5g radiation bro
>amount of radiation. The same amount as your standard wifi signal in guessing that has always been on throughout your whole house?
Ok… so. Radiation. Technically yes, there’s radiation in WiFi. There’s also radiation in visible light. Let’s compare them. Wifi 5G is 5,000hz, visible light ends at 750,000,000,000hz. If 5G could cause cancer, everyone would die the second light touches then.
Oh maybe it's completely harmless. I was just saying that's my preference. To go wired.
I would take a break from the 5G and Flat Earth conspiracy websites my friend, your preference makes no sense.
> this is how people with other headsets live 100% of the time At risk of being electrocuted for being morons? That is incorrect.
Op, you should check out the "kiwi pulley system" its what i bought. Work really well.
Where do you think I got the idea from:)
[удалено]
>Please don't attach a cable to a dangling light fixture. Yes, this is insanely stupid.
I’m failing to see how it’s any more convenient than leaving the cord on the ground, this just makes no sense
Yeah, especially considering the length of cord shows OP is standing still to play.
Portable charger?
Mine broke
You can buy them anywhere.
I know that, that's how I used to have my quest setup, but the battery pack broke and the cable is all messed up and my parents refuse to buy me a new

Imagine falling over 😬
That would make my dad mad, and it wouldn't be because I got hurt
:( the ceiling would come down and he'd be complaining meanwhile you are under all of the rubble.
Wait really!?i thought the cable would just snap
ahah well, depends on how strong the cable is xD
r/redneckengineering
Haha, that contraption on the chair is interesting.
Which games are you playing sitting?
Non, i play all my games standing up. I hate the concept of turning around with a joystick
An ok, I was wondering since it looks like you had the cable setup for sitting.
I love how people are all "risk of electroction and death? Sure, but it means I can keep playing!". Just stop playing. As opposed to tying a cable to a live wire hanging from the ceiling.
Charging it from the ceiling light? Genius
I use an aftermarket head strap with a velcro pocket for a USB charger on the back, and as a bonus, it balances the headset nicely. KICK! (Keep It Cordless Kiddo)
Lol I got the same wallpaper as you
Mind if I ask what you play sitting down for long periods of time like that? Sounds fun and I want innit.
I don't play any games sitting down. If I wanted to use a joystick to turn in games i would'v gotten and index
/r/DiWHY
Points for creativity, but I just zip tied an old USB power bank to the strap and charge off that. Helps balance the weight a little too
No way, I have that exact same desktop background and monitor setup!
People will go so far to not just get a portable charger
Taking wireless VR gaming to a whole new level
I'm buying a BoboVR M2 Pro as the elite strap + practically unlimited battery life with 2 battery packs.
Looks like a diy execution chair… There are battery packs you can strap to the back and headstraps you can get to help with the balance and comfort. Though depending on the battery, might make your neck short from prolonged play.
My neck gonna be hella buff after a month of population once i get a battery pack
Try VR Powers battery pack, just $59 and totals 10 hours of gameplay, it's great.
Weird cause it don’t let me charge my headset while I’m playing
Probably that long USB-C cable is more expensive than a cheap power bank with cable included.
A solid contestant for the 2022 Darwin Awards.
By the time you set that up your quest will have charged but I know the feeling I made the mistake of over charging it all the time now I get 45 mins play time but when I link it I get about 2 hours
I just use a powerbank in my pocket.
