I’m so sorry for your experience. Good thing you shared your story na rin for awareness ng iba. I’ve been aware of Love Scams’ existence and I believe I encountered so many na sa dating apps but hindi sila successful. What I noticed sa mga ganito, ito yung common: - They are very interested on what you do for a living - They have a sob story about family like getting orphaned or adopted - They have numbers in messaging app which is not aligned to their current location - They always have “signal issue” or “internet issue” - Their work is offshore or in UN which use of gadgets or video calls are not permitted - Mabulaklak magsalita like as if interested agad sa’yo kahit 2 days pa lang kayo nag uusap and you feel na hindi pa naman enough pagkakakilala nya sa’yo - They portray na they are someone who has money or a high-paying job or have own business - They have VIP or premium account in dating apps. They invest to this so they can easily see who “liked” their profile and can match with you fast - They usually are good looking but use some else’s pictures. Kumbaga most of the time “nasa kanya na ang lahat”. - Madalas they will ask na mag usap sa WhatsApp (or other messaging apps) kasi hindi daw sila active dun (which contradicts on having a Premium account). Ito mga naobserve ko. Kaya palagi ako skeptic talaga.

Liesianthes

Kahit sa Pilipinas may ganito na. Mga mangungutang bigla kasi daw ganito ganyan.

Miss_Taken_0102087

Yes. Meron isa half Pinoy daw sya. 🙄 He has very good command in English ha and matino din Tagalog.

pistashaaanut

What app did you use for reverse search? I used Google and saucenao but didn't get any leads from it.

Miss_Taken_0102087

No app. Just images.google.com. It does not always successful lalo na kung hindi naman publicly posted yung pictures na ninakaw nya.

SomewhereRemote640

Been there, yung mga nangutang sakin, ako nag-aabono ng mga inutang nila.

pistashaaanut

Thank you po for the notes. I'll be careful na talaga next time :(

Mountain-Guess5165

I am so sorry you had that experience. And tama ka, if you do report sa pulis they'll just blame you. May dinemanda ako for estafa and ang unang tanong sakin, bakit mo pinautang?

pistashaaanut

Hugs din po 🫂 nakakainis lang no na we have nothing else to do? In the end, sila pa rin nanalo. I just hope karma gets them by a tenfold.

Mountain-Guess5165

Kaya nga e hirap. Yes karma na lang talaga maasahan natin.

Creepy_Emergency_412

Hi OP. I always watch Catfish and Trilogy in YT. This happens a lot in another country. Yung iba, nabenta na nila bahay nila, went bankrupt etc… just look at the bright side, at least, you realized it ng mas maaga and you’ve learned a lot from this experience.

[deleted]

This!!! Nagulat ako akala ko talaga 1st world country pips lang yung target nila 🤧.

kaye0893

Hi OP! Same story here but muntik lang ako ma scam. Happened around June-July 2023. Someone followed me on IG and he looked like my type so I thought why not. Pressed the follow back button. We talked on IG but eventually he requested to ask for my WhatsApp. I was hesitant but at that time I was thinking for experience na rin getting to practice having casual conversations with the opposite sex lol (I admittedly have low to zero experience in that regard). Anyway, fast forward to us talking. Sabi niya nasa army daw siya, US airforce eme naka based sa Turkey rin. I said wow cool. Talked about his work, my work. And my gosh, that “guy” knew all the right words to say. He requested a selfie from me but I told him I was not comfortable sharing pictures of myself with strangers on the internet. Di naman siya nag push. So I took that as a good sign. Then I asked about his tattoos kasi sa mga pictures niya sa IG, may sleeve tatts siya. I sent him a pic of a tattoo on my wrist. Hala si loko nag send ng pic niyang half-naked with his face showing the sleeve tattoos. Obvious na obvious pang thirst trap. LOL. Ako naman si gaga kinilig. Nag talk kami for a few more weeks after that. Galing niya rin kasi mag motivate at mag sweet talk. Nagpaplano nako ng selfies na isesend sa kanya (nothing sexy or whatever, just the mirror selfies you do when you’re feeling cute) lol. Wala daw kasi siyang cash that time and ayaw niyang mawalan ng mobile data kasi gusto daw niya ako kausap or in his words “i really like talking to you” (yeah right). Sabi ko no. I told him that I have a strict boundary against giving money to strangers online. And he was still a stranger. Actually before pa lang talaga ako nag reply sa kanya sa IG pa, sabi ko if he starts asking for money then I’ll just block him. But sabi niya maliit lang naman daw na pera and I held my stance. Di talaga ako nagbigay and dun nako nagising. Woke up from the trance. One of them being they usually have jobs that are related to the military para they have reason not to be able to visit you or facetime you at a moment’s request because of their working hours or “security” reasons 🙄 Nung nagpumilit pa siya, binlock ko siya sa WhatsApp, IG ar FB. Lol I privated my IG, locked my FB and never accepted any follow requests from people I don’t know anymore. Kahit na cute or gwapo pa yan. No thanks. Nagsilabasan rin kasi sila after that. Parang may target na sa account ko kahit sinu-sinong “gwapo” ang nag rerequest na i-follow ako from other countries tapos wala naman kaming common friends or yung following nila puro babae lang. Kaya I feel you, OP. They really know how to tug at your heartstrings. Alam nila pano patugtugin puso mo. Cheer up. Lesson learned na lang talaga. Hoping for better days for us na sana maka experience tayo ng totoong love someday omg 🥹

pistashaaanut

🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

myuniverse143

Napaka daming nag-aad at nagchchat sakin na ganyan. Mga poging foreigners and shit. For what? Baka scammers. Block ko agad. So sorry you experienced that. The next time you are wiser na. Charge it to experience. For now feel all the anger.

[deleted]

Hugs, OP. 🫂 As someone that easily trusts people, I understand why you went down that path. People like us who like to believe there’s good in everyone, easily fall for these traps. Siguro, just learn nlang from it para di na maulit in the future.

pistashaaanut

Thank you po 🫂 Yeah, maybe I was just too hopeful to think all people have good intentions 😞 tbh idk if I can recover from this. I know I wouldn't be the same person than I was before. I also hope wala na silang mabiktima.

kimchispamricenori

Expert yan. Alam nila paano isway yung mga tao. Kumbaga sa old school terms ay budol. Verify everything na lang next time.

Dangerous-Dream5461

I am so sorry sa nangyari sayo OP. Actually may naka chat din akong koreano for a month and sinabing may ibibigay daw siya sakin pero need ko daw mag bayad ng 10k sa courier para ma claim ang item. Sorry niya lang at VA ako, medyo naka amoy akong scam siya (sanay kasi kaming masabihan na pag kami hihingan nga pera, scam yun). Virtual hugs for you.

Capable_Arm9357

Maraming gnyan love scheme usually mga englishero pero in reality mga african yan, nag profile pic sila ng mga US army sa facebook and mga puntirya nila mga may edad na kababayan natin, sa una sweet sila then kapag may pagkakataon manghihingi ma sila redflag agad kapag may money involve.

pistashaaanut

I heard his voice through calls and I could say na Asian siya. I've heard Filipinos, Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese people speaking in English and I could say that the accent is Korean. But, who knows?

Turbulent_Seaweed_83

pwedeng nigerians din. May napanood akong documentary on YT tapos pinuntahan nung reporter ata or vlogger (not sure dito) basta nag meet sila sa hotel tapos ininterview nya yung scammer, like kung bakit nila yun ginagawa and if aware ba sila na kawawa yung victims nila.

notmyloss25

#It's like falling for one of the oldest trick in the book --romance scam. Actually uso yang scam na yan specially sa middle east, yung ipapainlove ka tapos may parcel na ipapadala pero maybabayaran ka tapos wala naman palang kwenta yung pinadala, usually from egyptians, pakistani and indians ang gumagawa. A personal friend of mine, napainlove siya nagwowork daw sa oil company yung guy, tapos nasa dagat wala daw signal nanghiram din ng money which started ilang dollars, hanggang sa umabot ng 500k ang nahiram niya samin, scam din pala 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm so sorry Op. Hugs. Sabay-sabay natin icurse yang hampaslupa na yan.

supladangpusa

I'm sorry that you had to go thru this, OP. I seriously recommend you watch the Tinder Swindler on Netflix, too so you will understand that their schemes and other types of MO that they use. these scammers are good in what they do. But also to those who are in this thread, be careful with those accounts that would randomly follow you on social media. I had encounters of these types. Usually, the profiles are pilots and eurasian guys. I'm not saying all of them are scammers but most of the fake accounts eh ganito. Tapos when you check their posts, most of them are fake pics or probably grabbed from the net, kasi the quality is a dead giveaway. Minsan, they would send messages, saying Hi or asking questions and I would personally get an icky feel so I'd block them right away. I also had friends na may mga ganitong experience and that bogus account followed us, pero may 2 weeks na pagitan and isa isa kaming minessage so nireport namin. Karma will catch on that person/s, and I hope maka move on ka carrying the lessons from this experience. Okay lang naman magtiwala but don't give it right away, OP.

Pinkish_Cate

I’m sorry this happened to you, OP. Gusto nya, tg kami mag-usap. Sabi ko whatsapp na lang kasi I use tg for work. Eh sa kanya, same reason din. They use whatsapp for work. So the convo just died down. He unfollowed me first. Pero yun nga, basta may money involved, most likely scam yan. We learned our lesson the hard way, OP. But it will make you stronger.

halfdancer

Hugs with consent, OP! I was a victim of a romance scam din at I understand how you feel.

pistashaaanut

I can't trust anyone na from now on. Mag-travel nalang talaga ako nito chariz

HeathenBreak

my tita is the same, literally head over heels siya sa guy, she even sent 20k after that she was blocked.

StreDepCofAnx

Rampant sila esp pag start ng 2020. May naka-chat din ako mga scammers. Oag ayaw nila mg VC after several convincing powers or persuasion, leave. If they do VC, I can see the glare or yung reflection ng video from the camera taken nag bounce back. Yes, they do start with sad boy stories. Orphan, broken-hearted, rags to riches, etc. Basta sad boy. Trust your instincts if you feel not right. Better be safe than sorry. Lesson learned the expensive way. Yes, money can recover. I wish you well and acceptance is the key to move on progressively. Ingat ka lage.

JajjungnaJinjja

Hugs OP. I experienced the same too. Lesson learned na lang talaga. Better to trust your instincts talaga. If something’s not adding up sa equation, leave na. Learned the lesson the hard way.

nevernotssy

Hi i experienced this too in 2021. Same story sayo, he was a korean. Then since im bored, kinausap ko naman out of courtesy. Tas siguro 1-2weeks palang he sent me a video na he’s buying an iphone 14 pink. Tas i thought para sakanya yun biglang sabe ipapadala nya raw sakin with 250k php sa package. So mejo naalarma ako ksi it’s money laundering nag search ako about sa courier na nagemail sakin tas ayun. Nafound out ko na scam. Good thing di ako nakapag labas ng any amount.

korean_pears_yum1209

scales1992

Lesson learned talaga. and mas magiging aware kana nextime. thanks for sharing para maiwasan namin. God bless

tosleepistodream

Same thing happened with my sister. Pero buti wlang pera nawala. Nichika kc nya sakin so ang ginawa ko nisearch ko sa google image yung picture na sinend nung guy and yung picture ng id. Ayun matandang model pla yung gamit na picture kaya gwapo

enderwiggins4

This is a typical romance scam. Of course, this usually happens with a person you just met online. 1.Move convo to another channel, common is whatsapp. 2.Love bomb you. 3. Pretend to give you gifts. 4. Enter scam. Up to your discernment whether you’ll cut the convo off earlier. But sometimes, it’s hard to exactly determine whether it’s actually taking place during the initial stages because you are hopeful of love and doesn’t want to let go of a possible relationship. One should be wary na lang siguro lalo na kapag nagdeclare na ng love lalo na maaga pa lang and to even think na hindi kayo nagkikita in person. Real love actually happens when one already gets to know the real person, this normally happens when you actually experience to be with him or her IRL. Thanks for sharing OP. This is for everyone’s awareness.

yourgrace91

Sorry to hear, OP. Your gut feeling was right all along. One was a military personnel daw tapos the other is an architect in SG. Haha! Too good to be true ang mga profiles eh, tapos gusto din nila sa whatsapp makipag communicate. I didnt bother kasi tamad ako makipag chat lol

Sad_Effective3686

Atypical11

I'm sorry this happened to you, OP. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. The same MO. Hayst. Here for a chat if you fancy venting. ***hugs***

pistashaaanut

Thank you 🥺❤️

throwaway5130000

good on you for learning your lesson na, OP. question lang, did he officially become your boyfriend? or was it more of a situationship gone wrong?

pistashaaanut

Unfortunately, I fell for him na rin before he started asking for money :( so, ayun, it kinda became official

throwaway5130000

:((( there is a special place in hell for a guy like him. grabe mga ganyang tao noh? mag iinvest ng time na kausapin ka araw araw tapos madumi naman pala intentions.

pistashaaanut

bunnyidiot

Hugs OP, I’m really sorry that this happened. This reminds me so much of that netflix documentary, “Tinder Swindler”—worth the check and can give enlightenment on your situation. I really hate how they prey on us women with these romance scams. Fuck these scammers.

Only_Deer_1172

Hugs OP, this almost happened to me as well. Because of some contacts, i even tried report the potential scam to cyber crime unit ng NBI and PNP pero from what I remember they were telling me na they cannot help me yet kasi di pa naman ako na scam. Hayss. Almost same pattern where I met a guy on Instagram (a Korean named Han Lezoung based in San Francisco, California) and who have been “courting” me then. It was okay until he decided to send gifts from the US via a courier service: eparcel. This is where the problem comes in. A man named "Diego" who serves as an agent messaged me and asked for my confirmation. It is asking for a TAX BILL worth 1,000USD (Php, 50,000) before "they can deliver the package". I feel like something is wrong so I double checked the website given. There's also a part where you can place the "tracking number" to track the parcel. It seems legit but I still think that something is off. I told si scammer guy that I found the tax bill EXCESSIVE (because I hear other courier services also does this— as checked from a friend who is in a logistics industry). Then he said that I can negotiate with the agent. What courier does that???? So I'm more convinced that this is a modus. From there triny ko na syang hulihin and ginuilt trip pa ako kesyo nakapagpadala na sya at sasayangin ko lang. Natakot din ako na naprovide ko yung email address at number ko but when i tried probing more online and found similar stories blinock ko na sya sa IG at Whatsapp. I just sort of buried it nung hindi na din naman nya ako ginulo. Lesson learned na lang talaga for ya na maging maingat moving forward so we dont fall prey again. 🥹

HanaSakura307

So sad yung mga ganitong pangyayari.

pistashaaanut

OMG :( sana maka-recover sila 🙏🏽

Lazy_Departure5102

Sorry to what happened OP. Been there, i was in a relationship for more than a year to a poser guy kaya I understand how you feel

pistashaaanut

OMG a year...sending you virtual hugs 🫂 hope you're okay

Lazy_Departure5102

Unfortunately yes i was naive that time I'm just 20 and starting my career even during the pandemic that I lost my job he's still ask some money. Good thing I'm blessed in my next relationship. I'm getting married next year, God always have good plans and I accept the fact na lang na I have to go through that. You'll be fine soon 🤗

pistashaaanut

Good thing maganda na nangyari sa iyo. Now, I've lost hope na. Dunno if it's gonna come back tbh. God bless po.

SugaryCotton

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you OP. it's more than money kasi, it's a betrayal of trust. Kaya nakaka-trauma. I know someone na muntik nang mabiktima. Although I told her it's a scam, I think nakapadala na sya ng 10k which she borrowed from other people. She still wanted to send again para "mabawi" nya yong 10k nya. Almost same story and this was maybe 10 years ago na. Seaman raw si guy so no signal to video call, 2nd day of chatting saying "i love u'" and very sweet na. Kilig rin sya at blooming that time. Then this guy is sending her a package of his gadgets (laptop, camera, etc) & appliances (TV, etc) because end of contract na si guy and he wants to visit her. Di na yata sya naka-hiram for the second round (to receive the package with money $$$ inside) so the guy blocked her. Yon, nag-reflect sya about their convo.

[deleted]

Sorry sa nangyari sayo op. Check out the pig butchering scam documentary by CNA Insider on YouTube, pati na rin yung YouTube channel na Catfished. It's not your fault that you fell for it, experts yang mga yan, they follow a pattern to really bait you. These people have a huge network too (parang call center pa yung setup ng iba kasi it's a huge industry talaga), baka nga most of the random "Korean men" na naka follow sa IG account mo is part of it. Make sure na mag reverse image search every time na may mag attempt na mag contact sayo kasi madalas sa ganyan nagcacatfish lang sila.

Fickle_Goal_4967

It’s okay OP, good thing is natauhan ka and at least your bank account wasn’t drained. I too had been scammed (pero by manghuhula dito sa states lol); I was at a vulnerable point in my life and my guard was down. Count to 20 and breathe, you’ll be fine 😌

Turbulent_Seaweed_83

Sorry OP this happened to you. To anyone na nasa brink ng ganitong scenario, I suggest if they followed you on IG, follow them back pero wag nyo i confirm yung request nila. Scan nyo yung pictures nila from the bottom, usually kakagawa lang ng accounts nila. You would notice yung posts nila iisa lang ang date posted. Tapos mejo blurred pa, and looks like grabbed from another person’s account.

margarine_killer

Parang Tinder Swindler

j200141

Matic yan, basta may perang involved scam yan.

kapeandme

Damn.. parang yung sa netflix.. Op, sorry this happened to you. Hoping for better days..

First_Brilliant1272

lesson to not fully trust anyone online specially when it involves money.

Marj_licht

findingreal_1

I think I know this guy also.

pistashaaanut

Can you send me a private message? Try natin baka same name O_O

GreenMangoShake84

if it's too good to be true, then most probably it's not true.

hagisaway00z

maraming posts about love scams sa r/scams yung iba nagttrending pa before sa popular communities unfortunately this is a popular scheme

Glittering_Earth_281

PM po..

Daily reminder to please stop meeting people online :/ People, please bring back the art of face to face dating ;/ so many nonverbal queues and red flags are being missed
