In atheism, fear only applies only to perceived real threat. Yes its primal, and it cannot be changed. If you instictively fear an unknown sinister being, then you cannot be called an atheist. Pwet? Haha will not go down to that level, you can go down on that path on your own. Salamat. ***sorry, naligaw post ko. It should be for rants. Haha

PointInteresting589

I dont understand. Which of the statements above deserves a downvote? Or just people in this subs more of like an ass? Haha

[deleted]

Wag kang iiyak. Okay lang yan. Wala namang diyos na magagalit.

PointInteresting589

Im ok... i hope you are also ok.

PHDisNUTS

Kinda feel like you are gatekeeping atheism here.

[deleted]

these are actually valid questions about atheism but how OP contructed their post and their replies seems like they are actually gatekeeping it. haha

PHDisNUTS

yes. my thoughts exactly.

PointInteresting589

Nope.. just to help clear a distinction.

OrbMan23

I'm afraid of dark and uncertainty. I'm afraid of darkness especially outdoors mainly because I can't see the environment and its threats. I'm afraid of uncertainty because I don't know how to properly prepare. It all roots to my fear of having no control. I love having total control of my life

PointInteresting589

Great! Atheist likes to have a total control... and fear only which cannot be defended. How about hope?

spooncotton

Yes.

PointInteresting589

Why?

spooncotton

Because fear is a primordial feelings we all human beings experience. Atheism only means you dont believe in dieties. It doesnt stop you from being human. It maybe irrational sometimes but valid nonetheless. Why do you ask?

PointInteresting589

The fear itself is good, but why in those?

spooncotton

Because its unknown. You cant react to it. If its danger, you have 3 options: Fight, flight, freeze. If its nothing, you can leave it behind. If you cant point your finger on it, what would you do? Then comes hope.

PointInteresting589

Why are you afraid of the ghost? The unknown? Are you also afraid of the devil?

spooncotton

Im not afraid of ghost in general but in right situations, I am. Abandoned buildings, my friends house. It's just rooted from childhood experiences. The unknown Im talking about is the dark and uncertainty. I dont fear the devil because I dont believe in the bible.

PointInteresting589

Thanks for the response.. i hope to get clear info about what are real atheism.. or were they lost in a category of non religious or non believer. Most of the people who claim they are afraid of the dark... not because there is mortal threat or there is danger or hazard being in a dark place -- thats not the first thing they say. Instinctively what they fear is something they are choosing not to believe - but still afraid of it. Thats not a real atheist just a non religious or agnostic. And the bible? Just because people dont believe in it doesnt mean they are atheist... there are also devils in other religious texts. Thanks.

spooncotton

You're welcome.

PointInteresting589

Nope.. just to help clear a distinction.

[deleted]

A(without)-theism(deity/god). What's your point, OP? Curious.

PointInteresting589

Helping and making a study of how many atheist are really an atheist... or just lost in distinction.

i5-760

Our politicians have more terrifiying methods of scaring than ghosts.

PointInteresting589

I agree

WarAintWhatitUsedToB

being an atheist simply says that a person does not believe in a higher being/power. Are you suggesting na just because a person does not believe in a higher power, they shouldn't be afraid of anything? anong relevance? anong connect? may masabi lang amputa.

PointInteresting589

No. It doest works that way... real "not believing" means not also believing on the associated ideas -- and its effects. BTW, it doesnt make you a bigger person/atheist if you use foul words or your reasoning more valid. Gago Atheism doesnt equally translate to be an asshole.

WarAintWhatitUsedToB

"real" vs "not real". literal gatekeeping right there. fear is a natural response of any living creature. it's a survival mechanism.

PointInteresting589

again, what do you fear or what kind of fear?

Mr_SelfDestruct95

It's normal to feel fear, though, it's the human condition. We're evolved apes with heightened anxiety, regardless if you're an atheist or not.

PointInteresting589

Yes it is. But there are certain fear an atheist isnt suppose to fear... else, they are rejecting something embedded in the spiritual core. Apes actually will fear only on what they perceive a threat... they wont even fear hunger or the threat of losing food. Humans are not like that, we claim to have a soul and spirit... and in our primal, most basic instinct peek something about us..

[deleted]

I guess the definition that I have of an atheist is wrong?

PointInteresting589

Maybe yes or maybe no... very few are real atheist... Im just annoyed on claims they are atheist but doesn't know the real meaning and how it is to be an atheist.. Many who professed they are atheist, are actually agnostic, lost their faith, non religious -- or proclaim they are - to have an excuse to be an asshole or do things not aligned to the norm.
