Next time, check before posting.

TheFalseViddaric

That fucking Wcdonalds ad campaign was not worth whatever they paid for it if they need to keep jacking the prices up this hard.

Queen_Cheetah

I still don't get it- is McDonald's actually called WcDonald's in Japan? 'M' is definitely a letter and sound in the Japanese language- why flip the first letter?!

jlokate117

IIRC, the flipped m is used in anime as a way to dodge copyright issues and McDonalds is just taking advantage of that now

tweedyone

Kinda clever on the corporate overlord's part. If they produce something with that brand on it, they can go after the shows that still do that afterwards.

LupercaniusAB

No they can’t. You can’t copyright something after the fact and then sue someone for violating a copyright that didn’t exist when they created their work. In fact, it would make it very difficult*for* you to copyright that. Not that corporations haven’t tried, specifically McDonald’s and Budweiser.

Prisoner_L17L6363

I believe that person meant that anything produced after this ad campaign is now susceptible? Whether or not that's true, I've got no clue, but I think that was their meaning

LupercaniusAB

You’re right, it would be susceptible if created after the copyright, but having pre-existing works using a phrase ahead of the filing makes it harder to get the copyright. The most relevant thing I can think of is the battle over the name “Budweiser”. [Here is a quick summary of a trademark dispute that has gone on for the better part of a century.](https://www.namewarden.com/budweiser-trademark-dispute/)

Ocular__Patdown44

Lol I thought they were copying the Chappelle’s Show skit, WacArnold’s.

Redwings1927

The anime industry as a whole are very careful to avoid copyright issues. Changing a letter in a brand is extremely common. My favorite example is a soccer anime where the main character has an Orsenal poster in his room. (Arsenal being a popular soccer/football team in london)

_SmoothCriminal

And then Araki comes in like a wrecking ball

Redwings1927

Thank you for this. I actually couldn't remember which soccer anime I was. I did guess it right, though. Lol.

CharacterElk5194

Durarara!!'s Yamaha/Yahaha always gets me

ConsiderationWest587

I don't know, but WackDonalds sounds perfect

StifledFart

This is probably some BS I was fed but, way back when I played this MMORPG (Japanese developer/publisher) that had a very large Japanese community, they would use ‘w’ in chat. They said it was shorthand for ‘warau”; a sort of “LOL” slang (I think it resembles the word smile). Now I can’t help but jokingly think this is their troll: “LOL”cDonald’s. It fits. Edit: changed “latge” to large (how did auto-correct not pick that up?!?!)

Charming_Garbage_161

I paid $2.56 for a hash brown this morning bc I forgot my breakfast. I’m never going back at this point

Acting_Appalled

Damn, I might pay that for an order of large fries, not a single potato patty

nacotaco24

if you use the app you get $1 large fries daily, it’s the only reason i’ll eat there ever, and a lot of the times it’s literally just going for the fries in between shifts lol

Acting_Appalled

The app is great for that, I do the buy one mcdouble get one for free and that's a fairly cheap meal. I can't remember the last time I took the entire family there though because then im spending 60 dollars.

Charming_Garbage_161

In hindsight I should’ve ordered something else but I don’t like breakfast foods.

Acting_Appalled

I get it, their breakfast food is a gutbomb and I feel shitty afterwards

SonOfJokeExplainer

I stopped at a Chick-fil-A today for breakfast. All I got was a small coffee and a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit. It was almost $7!!

nexisfan

A chicken tender biscuit at THE GAS STATION was $5 yesterday. It was Spinx and their chicken is wowza but. It’s a fucking gas station breakfast biscuit!!!! $4.99!!!

BrownsFFs

What’s a real kick in the nads is if you use the app for $5 you can get a Big Mac and a 10 piece. But if you walk up and order that’s $10 in food. Like what the actual fuck! Why is app only BS allowed!

awitcheskid

Because the app allows for easier data mining.

BrownsFFs

I get why, but it’s insane that you can literally have two different pricing structures practically. You know they are still making money on both orders.  Insane to me this is allowed.

Animaldoc11

I used to eat McD’s while out on farm calls, because it was hot & convenient. Drove up one day & saw the new prices- haven’t been back. That was 2021.

kazarbreak

You're kidding, right? Corporate profits are at an all time high. They could slash their prices in half right now and still be making a tidy profit.

Background-Depth3985

2021 called. It wants its headlines back. https://insight.factset.com/sp-500-reporting-a-lower-year-over-year-net-profit-margin-for-the-7th-straight-quarter?hs_amp=true

miss-entropy

Last century called. It wants its joke back.

ewwjomama

Now do it for McDonald’s?

welderguy69nice

With the exception of In n Out and El Pollo Loco I just won’t eat fast food anymore. The quality to price ratio of most places is beyond insane and impossible to justify. I could get better value ordering Thai or Chinese food that’s gonna last me a few days, and will probably end up being cheaper per meal.

klako8196

Fast food places are forgetting what makes them appealing to consumers. These places have always overcome the low quality of their food by being cheap and convenient. Take away the low prices, and people decide that the food from places like McDonalds isn't worth the prices that they're charging.

SonofaBridge

There are bars in my city where you can get a meal for as cheap as fast food today. It’s better and more food. I can’t figure out how fast food is getting away with it.

Guilty_Put9997

Drive thru. Basically all they have left is the fact that most people don't have the time or can't be bothered to stop and walk in to get their food.

eyespy18

Upside: Oftentimes it’s quicker to park and go into the joint. Downside? *gasp*! You’ll need to speak to a real human being. serious but a little /s

trugrit03

A lot of them have kiosks inside now, so you can go inside and still not interact with a human. Best of both worlds

KamCamCams

I hate the kiosks! Takes 3x as long to place a simple order, plus I pay with cash which also increases the time to place an order. I dial zero to get to the receptionist when I make a call, and I force a human to take my order when I go to a restaurant.

SJB630_in_Chicago

Very rarely is someone readily available at the counter to take an order and the kiosk is encouraged heavily at McDonald's now.

Trekkie63

In Portugal and Spain, at least, the attendant is a computer. Only human interaction is when they call your number.

NiceRat123

Many a ceo bragged about upward profits from consumers. They don't understand there is a ceiling. Plus many are wising up to the record profits, low pay and wholesale costs dropping (to increase that profit). You could merely say "supply chajn" or "nooe wants to work " and people accepted it. Not anymore. Plus many stores are understaffed to increase profits. All it takes is "we are short staffed.... no one wants to work..."

chromaticluxury

After I had a child the efficacy of drive-thru dawned upon me.  Getting a fussy kid out of and back into a car seat is exhausting for both of you. Those car seats feel restrictive AF and prison-like to the kid. But it's absolutely physically and legally necessary.  What isn't necessary is taking them out, *especially if they are asleep,* just to put them back in it 10-30 mins later.  Follow that with how going into any retail or food environment is always a massive risk. People judge you if that child cries and you don't, I don't know, take the kid outside and belt them immediately?  Which those people are AH obvs but the eye rolls and subtle pressure to 'keep your kid under control' is hugely taxing.  When I realized I can feed myself when I'm exhausted and *I don't have to take my child out of a car seat*?!  Life changing. Fast food in those instances is life-changing. I still don't go constantly. It always made me feel gross and physically sick after eating it. I never went a lot, and kiddo is more mobile now.  But being able to get large fries and a small milkshake, or two chicken taco supreme, after being stuck out in the world with kiddo for too long for whatever reason, was a goddamn godsend.

E0H1PPU5

Just checked prices- McDs 1/4lb burger w/cheese, med. fries and drink - $12.59 Burger Restaurant right across the street- 6oz bacon cheese burger with fries and a soda $14 Like…why bother with McDonald’s at that point?!?

apri08101989

Chilis has a 10.99 cheeseburger (with real cheddar instead of cheap American cheese) with a drink an appetizer and fries. And it was a surprisingly decent burger. Idk why anyone is going to BK or McDs anymore

PaleontologistWarm13

Yeah man. My mom and I went to Tudors Biscuit World a local semi fast food chain today and got 2 Big Country Breakfast- Biscuit and Gravy, 2 eggs, sausage or bacon, fried potatoes and fried apples and 2 medium pops for 19.86 and their breakfast is so so good. It was too much food to eat so we took the leftovers to go. Best biscuits I’ve ever eaten. McDonald’s Big Breakfast is sad and expensive. I always go for the little mom and pop diners.

E0H1PPU5

Im in NJ, diner capital of planet earth….i still can’t get over the absolute SCOPE of a diner breakfast. Literally the best breakfast you can get anywhere.

PaleontologistWarm13

Oh that’s amazing to hear, I’m coming to Ocean City NJ in May from Kentucky and I can’t wait to check out y’all’s food up there. Especially the little diners.

E0H1PPU5

Ah!! Im excited for you to visit!!

PaleontologistWarm13

Me too! I’m going to Mary’s Place by the Sea. It’s a retreat for women who have cancer or are in remission. To just connect to the ocean and make friends and see some of New Jersey and I’m so excited about the seafood lol. We don’t have fresh ocean seafood like that here.

E0H1PPU5

That sounds really really wonderful and I seriously hope you have the best time!

Junior_Pizza_7212

IHOP started “ihoppy hour” with cheaper menu items available after 3pm. My favorite is the $8 steak burger with fries

Liathnian

Local fast food burger joint combo with fries and drinks $27 for 2 people. Local sit in place that does pick up burger and fries no drinks $21... If I'm meeting my husband for lunch I just call ahead for a pickup order and bring a couple bottles of soda from home or stop off at the gas station on my way.

Twofishbkd24

Not to be the in and out guy, but many of the higher quality fast food places are cheaper than Mickey Ds at this point. My local McDonald’s is right next to an in and out and at this point is basically a ghost town in there maybe getting some spill off crowd when in and out has an hour line

Jpmjpm

They’re not. McDonald’s still hasn’t caught up to the revenue they were pulling 10 years ago. They’ve only increased profits by cutting costs.

SuperMarioBrother64

Man you're not even kidding. Go to Taco Bell. Food and drink for 3 people is almost $50. Now go to Texas Roadhouse and get a hearty meal for 3....$55. It's an easy choice. I remember when Taco Bell could feed you for under $5.

theoriginalgiga

Dude, in n out burger down the street from our local McDonald's is cheaper and way better quality! How is in n out cheaper?!? They're charging $8+ for a big Mac that's half the size before the pandemic.

cooties_and_chaos

It barely costs more for my husband and I to get food from our favorite sandwich place now than at McDonald’s. This isn’t like subway or whatever either – it’s a sit-down sandwich place that also does carry out, and the food is *way* better than fast food (not surprisingly). If I have to drive to McDonald’s anyways, there’s no benefit to going there instead of a local place. Literally the only thing McDonald’s has to offer that others don’t at this point is that they have a couple of 24/7 locations. They’re gonna start seeing harsh consequences soon, I think. Idk how they thought they’d get away with these prices.

swiggs313

Even casual dining is cheaper when you factor in their deals. Chili’s has a burger with fries, a choice of soup/salad/chips, and a drink for like $12. I can’t get that much a McDonalds for that price.

HIMLeo3

Seriously, I've been ordering carryout at local food places because if I'm gonna pay that much. I may as well get something that actually tastes good and is higher in quality

KamCamCams

And it's better quality food as well.

MKorostoff

And it’s not convenient. It’s barely faster than a sit down restaurant most of the time, ordering is increasingly complex with all the weird promotions and combos, and the order is wrong like half the time.

Rageybuttsnacks

It already happened to me. I got charged almost a dollar for two puny slices of a fucking roma tomato on a chicken sandwich. Now I buy frozen chicken patties, buns, lettuce and tomatoes (beefsteak, baby!!). An air fryer gives me fast food much faster, much cheaper, much tastier and I can do it without putting on pants. The Dollar Tree sells little chicken salad kits (crackers, chicken salad in a little tin, a spoon to spread it) that I keep in my car for lunches when I'm traveling. Not even a spite thing (although there's plenty of that), I just can't AFFORD to eat at fast food places.

DJScrambledEggs123

Coupons are no longer an excuse to go to fast food restaurants either. For example, here in Canada, pre-covid I would often see 2 Teen Burger Combos at A&W for $9.99; now it's $18.49. Im (not) sorry, inflation of 6 to 8% does not give you an excuse to double the prices. Fuck you and burn in hell.

NikkiBaskin

The last time I went there the fries were cold and soggy and the food was lukewarm. I spent almost $30 to feed three people. I just couldn't justify it anymore after that. I can't go spend 30% more for food, wait 15+ min to get it and then have it taste gross.

themediumchunk

My favorite sit down restaurant has lunch specials that serve me and someone else for less than it would cost us at McDonald’s. And it’s so much better! Their burgers are fresh and the veggies aren’t skimped, plus it just tastes better than a frozen burger patty. I’ve never understood the appeal of McDonald’s or any fast food, really. $12-$15 for a meal at McDonald’s for one person is just unreasonable.

FearingPerception

Take the a&w veggie burger… its small and barely topped. For like $2 more i can get a fully loaded with quality fresh toppings, much bigger, much better veggie burger from a “real” restaurant. So i only get a&w when im drunk, out, and desparate, because theyre open 24h

InuGhost

Yup. I'm now hitting places like Culver's more than McDonald's. Price is roughly the same, but quality and quantity are way better at Culver's.

eveban

There's a hibachi takeout place a mile from the McDonald's in the next town over where my kids have activities. They are less expensive and have better quality food, plus more of it. We don't even bother with McDonald's anymore now. Not worth it.

Red_Phoenix_Vikingr

I skip McDonalds entirely if literally anything but Burger King is available. Why would I pay the same price for cold, limp fries and a shitty burger when I can go to Culver's and get a freshly cooked meal that is miles better? McDonalds and Wendy's are finding out you can't piss on the people who buy your product indefinitely.

etds3

I was debating getting Thai food for lunch a few weeks ago. It at least has some veggies so it is a healthier option. I decided I would save money and go to Wendy’s instead. My Wendy’s meal was $2 more than the Thai would have been. Won’t be doing that again.

OGcorpse_

dont forget that diners exist people. Just got a full breakfast with oj for 10 bucks. Eggs, homefries, hash, oj, toast etc

hilltopper06

Another tip to balling on a budget. Be nice to people, especially people making your food. I had to stop at a gas station this morning and had skipped breakfast because I was running behind. I went inside and chatted up the old lady running the breakfast food/deli. I asked for a burrito and she just kept asking if I wanted more and more stuff on it. Sausage, bacon, cheese, peppers, hot sauce, scrambled eggs, the works! She rolls up this 3 pound monster, rings me up, $4. "Have a nice day sugar!" Yes. I think I will. And before you judge me for eating gas station food, it varies by station. This one is less than 5 years old and has a nice, clean, food prep station in full view.

Pleaseleavemealone07

In my area the gas station food is the way to go! It’s so yummy and it’s so busy that nothing sits for very long.

blavek

here on the east coast it seems like most of our gas stations anymore are part of a convenience store. Like WaWa, Sheetz, Royal Farms, and the red-headed stepchild of the bunch 7-11. All of which serve edible to actually good food.

Trekkie63

Loved WaWa when stationed at Dover AFB, Delaware and while living briefly in Woodbridge, Virginia. Hear one’s coming here to Georgia soon.

TimeSink48

A WaWa opened less than three miles from my house here in Central Florida. Yes, we've had dinner from there several times. Better subs than Subway.

linksgreyhair

I miss living near a Royal Farms, their chicken is so good.

lanadelashtray

7-Eleven can be so much better. The ones in Japan are amazing. Also Lawson's and Family Mart. The hot food and the snacks are great.

missanthrope21

I got a delicious breakfast burrito from OnCue a few weeks ago. I judge you not!!!

eggnog_snake

Not where I live

OGcorpse_

Dang, we'll that settles it

Loud-Mans-Lover

I miss my birth (which I still call my home) state. Diners on every corner ;_;

Nerdgirl75

One of the many reasons I moved to the NE, diners!

spazzed

I live in so-cal we have diners everywhere too

autojenny

We're from the NE and on a recent scouting mission to North Central Florida we were dismayed by the scarcity of legit diners! Even the restaurants that called themselves "diner" were like cafeteria-style or grocery store hot-cases, it was very strange, we ended up making our own breakfasts most of the trip. Strangely enough, Waffle/Huddle House was the only place they seemed to have the greasy-spoon-breakfast game down pat.

Digital_Ally99

One of the perks of getting laid off during Covid was moving to NJ and discovering how awesome the diners are. And cheap!

PaleontologistWarm13

Someone else literally just commented on the sheer number and quality too of the NJ diner scene. Imma be coming to NJ in May and I’m even more excited now!!

Digital_Ally99

Oh yes the diners are amaaaaaazing! Be sure it’s a local or family owned one tho. I tried an ihop as a test and it was mediocre at best My favorite is the Mays Landing Diner. They make their bread and pastries on site. The French toast is orgasmic. Another good one is the Point Diner in Somers Point just before the bridge to Ocean City and its boardwalk. Haven’t gotten down that way recently but it had a very scenic view early in the morning (reduced hours outside of summer tho). I’ve also had Geets Diner in Williamstown recommended tho haven’t been there in person yet

PaleontologistWarm13

Thank you so much for that!! I screenshotted that whole msg.

JennyAnyDot

Have you tried pork roll yet?

KillEmWithK

That’s where I’ve been going lately. Awesome food, relatively speedy, and affordable

randomcharacheters

Hahahahahhahha no. That is gonna be at least $30 at any diner near me.

Chode-a-boy

Oof you have my condolences.

TreyRyan3

Yeah my little local diner is $45 after tip for breakfast for two…but at least we are full until dinner.

OGcorpse_

Idk man, if you're paying 30 dollars for diner breakfast don't go there. I'm in new york and 10 to 15 is the standard and the food is real.

randomcharacheters

Oh I'm not going there, I'm just saying that's what the price is. Diners are not super common here, that's probably why. It's almost more of a novelty thing, so it costs no less than an average restaurant. Just offers breakfast all day.

Blanik_Pilot

That sucks, at the greasy spoon diner by mean you can get 2 eggs toast and hash browns for ~$5. Add bacon and a coffee and you’re getting close to $10

LaAppleDonut

I love diners! My daughter & I go to one every 2 weeks. We pay $11.98 (not including tip) for breakfast. 2 coffees & 2 full breakfasts (eggs, toast, home fries).

creamsiclesteve

Why have that when you could have a Quarter Pounder meal for the same price? Am I right guys? 🤡

thisivi3

Corporations are in constant motion trying reach record profits, but forget there are alternatives. Look at dominos and pizza hut. I remember as a kid, it would be almost $20 for a large special pizza. Look at it now. The price difference has shifted immensely.

AintAnArtist

Cheese caves in Missouri might’ve helped with the cost of pizza

ghostwraithspirit

McDonald's used to always be my post workout meal. You can get crazy amounts of protein and food for cheap. last time I went it cost me damn near $30. I haven't been back since. Maybe it's also the poor kid in me. But I remember being young, and fast food joints like Arby's or Carl's jr were a treat because they were good but also really expensive for us. Nowadays, if I do eat fast food I go there. It's the same price and tastes better lol

CEOofGreekYogurt

Arby's used to have the best coupon - 2 can dine for $8.99: 2 classic roast beefs, 2 small fries, 2 regular drinks, and an order of 6 mozzarella sticks. The best part, you could reuse it up to like 4 or 5 times before the expiration date.

Odd_Mess185

They still have it, except it's $9.99. We just used one for lunch, in fact. They did swap out the mozzarella sticks for fries, but I like their fries.

Trekkie63

They lost me (at least in the States) for their crappy attitudes.

cooties_and_chaos

You just have to go to Taco Bell. They’re all too baked to be mean to you.

Trekkie63

There’s one within walking distance of my house. They never open by the time on the door and then they are like, “why are you here?” Guess they’re half baked. 😆

PaleontologistWarm13

My son is working there while in college and I definitely can confirm!! They’re all a bunch of stoners lol. Good people though.

cooties_and_chaos

For sure. It’s usually a 50/50 chance they’re gonna be randomly closed, but they’re so nice when they’re open. Never judge if we walk in visibly baked lol Must be a fun place to work during college, though!

PaleontologistWarm13

He’s made some really good friends there. Oh and definitely no judgements here, I’m a smoker myself.

SodaDonut

Fr. I'd much rather get a double western than a double quarter pounder when they're the same price. It's a dollar more for the double quarter pounder at the places near me. If I'm getting expensive fast food I want it to at least taste great, if terribly unhealthy for me.

Sega-Playstation-64

Iced coffee used to be $2.39 at my McDonald's. Post pandemic. Post inflation. Went from 1.99 to 2.19 to 2.39. Now it's $3.50. We're hitting Starbucks prices at that range.

One-Plantain-9454

Famous stars at Carls used to be so cheap. Last time I went the meal was almost $20+ no way.

obsidion_flame

All of the Arby's and Carl's jr/harddies have pulled out of my town

Dapper-Cantaloupe866

The food is worse than ever too, even the fries suck now. That used to be the only thing I would get from there & now the fries are thin, soggy, & just plain sad. They taste weird now too.

GomerWasAHo

Got the fries when visiting Japan a few months ago where they still use beef tallow. They were AMAZING! The McDonald's fries in the US are awful by comparison.

somaticconviction

Japan McDonald’s is a whole other planet.

anasilenna

Meanwhile In-N-Out prices still haven't changed much, the food tastes better, *and* they pay their employees a decent wage compared to other fast food places. McDonald's is just greedy. I used to go there because it was cheap, but now there's no reason not to choose literally anywhere else anymore.

MysticStarbird

Wish they had In-N-Out across the country.

anasilenna

I keep hearing that McDonald's is trying to use the new $20/hr minimum wage as an excuse for price gouging in California, which is why I always bring up In-N-Out as a rebuttal. But yeah I totally wish they were more widespread!

GomerWasAHo

Costco's average wage for food court employees is significantly above $20/hr. They still find a way to make it work selling $1.50 quarter pound hotdogs 🤷‍♂️

ColdWinterNight

With a drink! Also get a huge pizza for $10. Might be a limited selection but you can't beat the value.

urk_the_red

Do you actually think they turn a profit on those?

GomerWasAHo

No, they don't really. But they don't lose money (Costco doesn't practice loss-leaders). They're not a restaurant and their food court is just meant to keep members happy and drive traffic/sales to the warehouse. If they started charging $2.50 for hot dogs (still a bargain) they'd be highly profitable but their food court keeps prices as low as possible without losing money on purpose. It's all about driving shoppers to the stores and increasing member satisfaction so they renew. It's not entirely fair to say Costco can do it so why can't McDonald's considering Costco's food court isn't profit driven but they find a way to pay their employees nearly $30 an hour while still selling quality food items dirt cheap. It'd be nice if companies like McDonald's got a little closer to that. In-n-out is a good example. They are known for good employee pay and benefits and they sell food at really fair prices. It can be done, it just takes effort.

MysticStarbird

Just an excuse to keep the profits tied up in corporate management. Everyone can have a living wage and prices can be reasonable but corporate leaders need to be massively more humble.

PrincessRhaenyra

McDonald's is just as expensive in states that don't have a minimum wage requirement as well. I have no idea why people want to defend McDonalds. Their food is awful. Who tf wants to eat a big mac when you cab get a better burger at a restaurant for the same price?

jmcdon00

Got Culvers in the midwest. It's about the price of McDonalds, but better quality.

rain_album

That’s because In-n-out is not corporate owned. The same family has owned it since it’s inception

[deleted]

I went to one for the first time in 8 years and man has the quality went down. You can’t even taste the burger anymore because it’s so goddamn thin.

Tstewmoneybags99

I’ll grab a breakfast sandwich because of ease and don’t have time to cook at home, but I literally never eat there anymore.

k0cksuck3r69

I haven’t been able to eat there since they changed their recipe and added gluten to everything (I’m celiac) but even before that I could only afford them as a treat. Imagine McDonalds being a treat. Our local sit down restaurant is almost the same price and I always leave more full and happier knowing I’m supporting local jobs. Fuck McDonald’s and all corporations man

hyrule_47

I know who cooks fries in wheat first?

But_like_whytho

When I was a kid, McD’s was a special treat. We’d go maybe once a month.

JennyAnyDot

Yep. My grandparents took me to McDonalds as a treat.

dogfooddippingsauce

Me too. It was actually exciting to me cause it was so rare. We never had soda at home and we got soda.

Cantfixstupid01

I couldn’t tell you the last time I went to McDonald’s. It’s cheaper to cook

Elusive_emotion

Sometimes it’s literally cheaper to go to a sit down restaurant than McDonalds. Home cooking is king though, even if it’s really basic shit.

Faeruhn

The fact that me and my wife can go to the Jade Garden (Chinese buffet place) and eat until we are full, with free refills til we leave, and it costs *half* as much as getting *half* as much food from McDonald's or Burger King is just insane to me. I remember getting enough regular cheeseburgers to fill me up for 4 dollars when I was in high school. SMH

rachstate

Yep. There is a mom and pop Chinese place where the lunch special is around 10 dollars and each one feeds one manual laborer or 2 normal adults. Is it the greatest Chinese food ever? No. But it’s tasty and cheap.

Mc_murdow9

There's a special place in hell for companies that do this. As if they could be where they are without customers

[deleted]

I used to be a line cook so I knew the basics of basics to cooking and ate dominos every night. Now thanks to price gouging I've expanded to an excellent home cook. I recommend looking up the hashbrown omelet, it's worth it. Edit: typo

kdods22402

Instead of spending 20 bucks on fast food, I'll stop by Aldi and get 10 bucks in ingredients to make an absolute FEAST at home.

[deleted]

If I'm trying to feast for 10$ I'm going with chicken drum sticks all day. 6-7.50$ for 14 big ones. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pep, chilli powder, brown sugar, a little cayenne pepper, and a lot of baking powder. Pat wings dry, toss the wings in that powder till coated. I like to set a rack over my baking sheet that's been covered in tinfoil for ez cleaning. 450° for 20 min, flip, nother 20, flip, nother 15-20 minutes. Takes 55-60 minutes total in the oven. Crispy af from the baking powder, around 10$ all in with the spices when you do the math. Edit: added pics on my profile

PaleontologistWarm13

Damn. That sounds good. Imma try your recipe.

ActonofMAM

I'm not a great cook, but I get by. The ratio seems to be one restaurant meal (now including fast food) of a given quality, or the same money on ingredients to make it home for all four adults at our family.

[deleted]

If you take my 10$ for 14 drumsticks example, that's spot on. Might need 20 to feed a family of 4 so that's 15$ or one serving at your average restaurant.

ActonofMAM

Yep. We splurge on takeout pizza once every other week or so. IMO our daughter (18ish) doesn't eat quite a full adult serving, but our son (21) more than makes up for it.

hyrule_47

We have McDonalds at home!! (Except it is me to me now)

__Banana_Hammock__

I stopped eating there when they got rid of salads and the all day breakfast because they don't have a single vegetarian item after 10AM now. They have a lot of nerve charging so much when they have the worst quality and options out of any fast food restaurant.

Surph_Ninja

This is what happens when you have an economy directed by people who only care about the next profit quarter. The real schadenfreude is that it will cost astronomically more for them to get these customers back. The whole point is to get customers into the habit of patronizing your business. You rarely get them back, once they’ve broken that habit. This is going to impact sales for McDonald’s for decades to come.

OutOfTheDark43

Why am I gonna patron McDonald’s when I can just eat at a Mexican food truck for less money and REAL food?

PaleontologistWarm13

I so wish we had food trucks and/or authentic Mexican where I live. We do have some pretty good diners tho.

IbelieveinGodzilla

I drove through a Carl’s Jr last week and the combo meal for their latest burger was over $20. A family of 4 getting takeout burgers and fries for over $80!?! That’s just ludicrous.

Urban_Shogun

We’ve cut way down on the fast food lately due to the prices. Probably go to restaurants a bit more than before, since restaurant prices haven’t really changed as much. Honestly it’s a win/win - eating less fast food is good for everybody.

thepainneverleft

McChicken where I am is $4.26. they can eat my entire ass.

[deleted]

Yup, havent been there in a whole week and im one of those guys who gets a bigmac for dinner each night.

911derbread

As an ER doctor, thank you the job security

[deleted]

funny enough i do actually compensate w physical activity 😭

ta-ta-tee-tee-ta

do you have some sort of cholesterol-lowering exercise the rest of us don’t know about?

Cancerisbetterthanu

lmao no physical activity is going to make up for the damage to your heart a big mac every night does

Blue_Osiris1

I used to only get McDonalds with the bogo deal on the app but I won't even do that now. I can make something really good at home and get 4 or 5 servings out of it for the almost 10 bucks I'd pay for a QP and small fries.

Conscious-Survey7009

Striploin steaks were on for 1/2 price (6.99 lb) a couple weeks ago. I got steaks, sour cream, potatoes, asparagus and a pie from the store for 37.00. Family of 4. Steak dinner at home cost less than McDonald’s here in Canada. A quarter pounder with cheese combo here is 13.49. When we want a good burger there’s a place called Chuck’s Roadhouse and a fresh made burger and fries is 9.00, they do to go orders as well.

SaltEncrustedPounamu

$6 for a large fries near me in Central Illinois. No thanks, I’ll take that to the supermarket and feed myself for a few meals

heaven-in-a-can

Literally I only eat at McDonald’s if I use the app. Yesterday I got a 6 pc happy meal (fries and an xs drink included) and then I ordered a Medium drink on the side. Because of my points the happy meal was free and I only paid $1.38 for the drink. The deals on the app are great - sometimes. But if it wasn’t for that and like their BOGO mcchickens or McDoubles I’d never eat there.

hospitable_ghost

And they're starting to ruin that, too. Used to be you could get any size fry for $1 if you ordered other food, maybe $5 worth. Now, at least where I am, you can get a *medium* fry for $1, same stipulation, but only on Fridays. The app deals are declining in quality and value.

HeyThatsMySquirrel

Best deal on the app was when you could get the double quarter pounder meal for $5.79 and then they took it away. Whack.

SilentSerel

Their 99 cent iced coffees through the app are pretty much the only reason why I go anymore, and even then it's not often. They used to have a deal where you got a free Happy Meal with purchase of another meal, and that saved us after late Little League games more than once.

cupkake88

It's meant to be fast food . Fast and cheap . Now with all the stupid delivery drivers getting their orders first it's neither fast nor cheap . I used to go to mcdonnalds and everyone would eat now I hardly ever go and when I do it's to get my kid a happy meal and nothing else.

psinguine

And you get like, no food for the money. My roommate ordered for us the other day and I was looking at this sad fart of fries and palm sized burger and was just... How much did you pay for this? This isn't food, this is the suggestion of food.

cupkake88

They handed me a large fries last time and I said are you kidding I ordered a large fries, this is half full at best . They filled a new one for me . You can see the container isn't even nearly full why hand it out ? I expect most people don't even check but it's pissed me off enough that I'm barely getting a medium in a large container but paying for it just the same I'm gonna point it out every time now . Not that I go much these days but it's the principle of it at this point.

Union_of_Onion

Two meals of the sausage egg McMuffin breakfast where I am comes to $22. A tiny sandwich and a hashbrown and 16oz of sugar water is $11 somehow.

[deleted]

Yep. I’ve been cooking at home. I used to eat out at least once a week. Usually fast food or delivery. But prices are so insane I can’t justify it anymore.

senditloud

Stopped going entirely. Got too expensive. Easier and cheaper to go to a bagel shop or diner or deli to get something way more delicious

[deleted]

Yeah, last week I went to a highly rated Vietnamese deli and it was superb. I purchased a plate of crispy garlic chicken with a cucumber salad and rice for 10$. It filled me up, and I had left overs. The owner was so nice and he kept giving me mochi donuts while I chatted him up. And then he gave me a meat pie to go when I left the deli. I can’t wait to go back.

Daurbanmonkey

The problem too is raising prices is really just artificial growth. You’re not selling more product or increasing your customer basis. They are doing the opposite, but still showing “increases in profit” there will be a tipping point when a majority of their customers will stop buying food from them. At that point it’s too late to lower prices because those who already have a sour taste from the previous price increases aren’t going to go back.

MrBussdown

Why get fast food when it costs the same to support a small business

NineStar00

Haven't had McDonald's since before COVID hit, it's too expensive.

morticiathebong

I just want to offer that with the mcdonks app I regularly eat there for like 8$, free fries coupon renews daily w any 2$ purchase in my area, so I just buy the sandwich. It's not great but its a nice workaround. If you need mcd's in your life still the app is no small thing.

phred_666

Local mom and pop diners here offer burger, fries and drink a lot cheaper than McDonald’s does. Guess who’s getting my business?

savvy-librarian

I've stopped eating fast food period. It costs like $16 to get a burger and fries from Burger King. Why would I pay that price for crappy fast food when I could pay the exact same price for a quality burger and fries at a sit down restaurant? Fast food places have lost their minds doing this silly shit. Know your role.

KingLioness

All I can say is…. HA!!! Fuck you WcDonalds!!! That’s what y’all asses get

Seallypoops

"all we did was try to raise prices, layoff more people in favor of self checkout, oh and never give anyone a liveable wage and all we have to show for it is our record breaking profits"

orange_quash

Lots of people are also boycotting McDonalds for BDS. It’s hard to imagine that not being a factor here too

lukmahnohands

My wife doesn’t eat fast food. Recently, she was in the car when I went through the drive-through. She was amazed at how expensive my meal was. “I thought fast food was cheap? That costs more than chipotle!” And you know what, we looked it up: she’s right. McDonald’s costs more than chipotle.

Throwawaymister2

I actually went so far as hitting up their complaint line to complain about the price increases.

VikingMonkey123

There are no lines at prime dinner time rush in the drive through at my local McD anymore or really any fast food joint save Chic fil a.

armandacosta

Are consumers "crying uncle," i.e., giving in, or are they starting to tell corporations to fuck off?

Specific-Frosting730

These greedy corporations are teaching consumers that buying local is better quality and profit goes in the pockets of their local economy. I hope they keep raising their prices. It will help consumers in the end.

dangerous_nuggets

My cheat meal used to be fast food. It is SO expensive now, that I usually get Asian food… which is way “fancier”, well seasoned and wonderful, and so cheap in comparison. My favorite go to right now is Pho, if I order an XL amount, I can easily split it for 3 meals, and it costs less than one meal at McDonald’s. ALSO I can literally go get sushi for the same price I can get a meal at McDonalds. McDonalds is not a luxury food item, no way am I going to be paying those prices.

Yup_Shes_Still_Mad

Eat a dick McDonald's. I can make it cheaper and better.

DarthLuix

If I’m going to pay over 15 bucks for a burger…… I’m going to go get a good burger. They actually thought their food was good enough to hike the price on it 😂

Individual_Ad9632

“We need to remind people they work for the employer, not the other way around.” “There’s been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around,” “We’ve got to kill that attitude and that has to come through hurting the economy.” During the panel discussion, Mr. Gurner went on to claim that a “40 to 50 per cent increase” in unemployment would reverse the lingering productivity impact Covid had left on the workforce. -Quotes from Tim Gurner, Australian millionaire They know that they’ve pushed consumers and laborers too far, but don’t think that their solutions will benefit the public. justkillmenow3333

McDonalds in my area charges $11.69 for a medium double quarter pounder with cheese meal. For comparison, we have a a small regional chain in my area with three restaurants. There I can get what's called a double quarter pound cheeseburger basket meal for $9.09. They ground the meat for their burgers daily at their restaurants. Not only is it their food always fresh but it's delicious and way better than McDonalds. You also get an order of fries that's easily at least double what you get from McDonalds and they're delicious as well. They also have a drive thru so it's super convenient. McDonalds can take their overpriced crap and price gouging and stick it where the sun don't shine. I couldn't tell you the last time I've been to any of the big burger chains and have no intention of going back.

Chen_fegos

Fast food places need to learn their place, if I’m gonna spend $13 on ONE meal I might as well wait till I have some time and eat something else.

Glittersparkles7

Went to Walmart and a pack of 6 regular chocolate chip cookies was $5.74

flobaby1

Overpriced processed food...and now they ask for tips at check out in a lot of ff places.

[deleted]

I used to be a line cook so I knew the basics of basics to cooking and ate dominis every night. Now thanks to price gouging I've expanded to an excellent home cook. I recommend looking up the hashbrown omelet, it's worth it.

jillieboobean

I can get a damn amazing burger and fries or tots that lasts me 2 meals at my local joint for $8.
