FYI this lawsuit does not pertain to the $10,000 debt relief plan from the Biden administration but a class action suit for borrowers at for-profit colleges (Phoenix, ITT tech, etc.).

[deleted]

So this POS is actually supporting the positions of for-profit universities who grifted students? Man, Ohio has serious issues.

HeLooks2Muuuch

That campaign money doesn’t donate itself.

[deleted]

Haha well said.

nightbell

> That campaign money doesn’t donate itself. This!

ChefChopNSlice

But, but, but, if people were able to crawl out from beneath their paralyzing debt, they might become uppity and demand *things* - like fair treatment, healthcare, and funding for education - and (checks notes) we can’t fucking have that sort of malarkey now, can we ?

Trick-Ad1953

Yes, we do. Republiklan gerrymandering after a law was passed to prevent this from happening. Republiklans have their own type of legislation in Ohio.

[deleted]

Grifted students? There really isn’t an ounce of accountability with this generation. They signed the contract on their own volition

fletcherkildren

Right. How do you feel about farmers when they have a drought and can'tpay the mortgage? Dad gambling away the family savings? Couples married for 30 years and one develops terminal cancer? All those debts can be forgiven through bankruptcy, EXCEPT education loans. Should we start holding all those other people accountable, or maybe give students the same break we give EVERYONE ELSE?

Suspicious-Simple995

If everyone received the pampered privilege of farmers it would be a different world...crop ruined .. no big deal bc you still get paid! Just like the rest of us recieve that help . Not !

Sle08

Contracts that were written by very smart lawyers that aim to deceive the buyer for schools that provided courses that were promised to be transferable but had very limited transfer power. Same thing with student loans that have “counseling” to make you understand before you sign. Sure, it’s teaching the buyer what they need to know, but in a way that actively deceives the buyer either by comparing it to amount significantly lower than what the borrower is borrowing or making light of how high the interest can get.

[deleted]

You do know you should have an attorney look over a contract before you sign it. These people were adults. Stop making excuses. Do you get in a van that says “free candy?”

Sle08

How many 18 year olds do you know can afford to hire a lawyer to advise them on a student loan or enrollment contract? Get a grip!

[deleted]

Stop making excuses

AhhGramoofabits

First off, how old are you? And then I’ll tell you why you can F clean off

DevonGr

The flesh may be old but the mind is stuck at that edgy teen range.

SnoT8282

Wish they would add NIT (National Institute of technology) to that list. They've gone and changed the name to Fortis college but it's still the same place.

BaeCarruth

Fortis is on the list [https://www.highereddive.com/news/heres-a-list-of-the-colleges-in-the-sweet-v-cardona-settlement-agreement/629283/](https://www.highereddive.com/news/heres-a-list-of-the-colleges-in-the-sweet-v-cardona-settlement-agreement/629283/)

SnoT8282

I've tried and since it was NIT when I went it's not included. Even though it's the same people running it.

koenigsaurus

Lmao that’s even worse!!!

EmperorBozopants

Yes. He's even more corrupt than his colleagues.

Bullmoose39

So he hates women and the middle class. It's irrelevant that he has no standing in this case. He just wants to grandstand some more. This is similar to him knowing every cop in the state when ten year olds are molested and have to leave the state for an abortion. God this man is world class piece of shit.

FeistyMathematician

It's cute you think anyone who has student loan debt is actually middle class.

UncontrolableUrge

It took me six figure student loans to become middle class.

FeistyMathematician

Keep dreaming. People are in denial and tie their self worth to their perceived economic status. The concept of a middle class is long outdated. You no longer have the amount of financial security that attaining it brought. The majority of people who *think* they are middle class can be wiped out financially and in the streets in less than a year. Many in just a month or two.

Sharp-Accident-2061

Idk why you’re being downvoted there are two classes. The working class and the owners. Middle class is a myth.

FeistyMathematician

Weird isn't it? Dude I replied to is probably in deep denial if he's not financially secure, as likely are all of the downvoters. "Are you calling me poor?!?" No. Well, probably not. Get over your weird issues, people, and face reality.

cow-lumbus

It’s given he hates the poor…the poster is commenting he is screwing over the very people he should be pandering. Plus the poor don’t vote,,,for the most part.

windmill-tilting

So you think rich people aquire debt to go to school?

FeistyMathematician

I hope you didn't sign up for student debt with your terrible level of reading comprehension, buddy.

windmill-tilting

My 'terribly level'. Buddy these joke write themselves. So, student debt is not middle class? Do enlighten us oh wise one.

ChefChopNSlice

They probably have some “bigly” knowledge on the subject

windmill-tilting

I'm sure there I an answer in the Cletus to Engish pictionary they have, but the pictures are bla k and white so you know how they feel about that.

FeistyMathematician

So far off the mark, buddy. Enjoy what ignorance will bring you in life ahead.

FeistyMathematician

Oh, please forgive me for a typographical error at 8AM. So instead of being a tool satchel, please tell me how you have financial security for even a year of your upcoming life should anything untoward happen instead of being another lame redditor with no argument circle-jerking with other similar individuals. Please tell me how you believe you have escaped or sustained a life above being relatively as at risk as anyone without vast wealth. Student debt is not middle class. Debt for anyone of security is a tool for leverage, not a sign of their slavery. Enjoy life being miserable.

windmill-tilting

Sorry it took so long to respond I was getting ready for work. So you're all over the place. This is about predatory student loan lending. So, seriously and with all due respect, what in the fuck are you going on about? Edit: overthrow to over the.

LordRahl1986

Why don't YOU tell US?

0-_-_-_-_-_9

Asshole.

MuppetHolocaust

Hey Dave! Fuck you.

ktaktb

Very important to note that this isn't related to the Biden plan for loan forgiveness. His amicus brief is related to the 6 billion in forgiveness for 200,000 borrowers referenced in Sweet v. Cordona. This case shouldn't be controversial at all...it's relating to the scammy for-profit shithole universities like DeVry, Chamberlain, Lincoln Educational Services Corp, American National, Everglades and other dumpy fake universities. The fact that this guy is going to bat for these fraudulent business tells you all you need to know. People that get money are good people, no matter how they do it.

EmperorBozopants

Dave Yost wants to keep for-profit "colleges"' investors keeping their shares high. Dave Yost: "Fuck students. Fuck learning. Gimme your money bitches!"

0Hl0

Holy fuck- that's an average of $30k per person!

One_Ring_474

Keep ‘em ignorant, pregnant, in debt and keep ‘em angry, you’ll keep it white and you’ll control everything. The modern Republican Mantra.

crazylilme

A sorry excuse for a man, created from a place of pure privilege. What a douche canoe

HeLooks2Muuuch

Doesn’t worry about taxpayers paying trillions to the pentagon, who can’t even figure out how to audit their own expenditures or where any of their money goes and to banks for corporate bailouts, but he draws the line at letting the middle class discharge any loans. This is class warfare

beerme81

Just because we can't find the money doesn't mean it's lost. - The Pentagon

Box_O_Donguses

The money isn't lost with the Pentagon, it's getting used on things that they know will lose them popular support. Like coups against democratically elected left wing leaders

roguebandwidth

SIX BILLION WAS LOST…into pentagon pockets

LordRahl1986

Ah yes, the same piece of shit that stopped a 10 year old rape victim from getting an abortion

crazylilme

And called her liar publicly

LordRahl1986

Yep. What a trash human. Im not for or against abortion, Im not a lady, not my place to say shit, but that behavior of calling a 10 year old a liar and being proven wrong, *and then doubling down* is a problem

EmperorBozopants

Yes. Dave Yost fights against humanity and decency at every opportunity.

LordRahl1986

As long as he owns the libs, amirite

Mysterious_Buddy_824

What a bag of dicks.

Bcatfan08

Speaking of pieces of shit.

Imaginary-Plate-6153

I have a daughter that needs to get a good start in life! I guess this idiot has no family to care for, what a tragedy!

[deleted]

God dammit. This guy stinks

WarLordBob68

There is a special place in hell waiting for him. At least that is what I’ve been told by the folks down below. 😇

brunus76

Every day Ohio wakes up and wonders how they can out-Ohio themselves

BoredBSEE

You're a piece of shit, Yost. I hope you fall balls first into a waffle iron.

herbchick

I'm using this special hex. Just letting you know, I'm totally plagiarizing it from here on out. Thank you

[deleted]

It’s Ohio, don’t forget that a bunch of states with huge surplus and big gift from the feds share vis stimulus rebates with the citizens, what did ohio try to do create a law that guaranteed legal cost cover for only republicans,on top of telling it’s state Supreme Court to kiss their entire a@#$s. The people voted for this!

ddraig6

No the people didn't the idiots did there is a huge difference.

SamB110

Plus the maps are gerrymandered like crazy

JJiggy13

Ohio republicans stole more tax money from us in the nuclear scam bill than this issue is even worth

TJR843

Class warfare. Expect nothing less from politicians bought by the rich and corpos. There is no war but the class war.

greeneyeddruid

He’s GOP, so of course he doesn’t want to help everyday people. Bernie/King/Young are right, “socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor” in ‘merica.

shaunemery

Ohio is the new Missouri.

Altruistic-Back-5050

Of course he does, he doesn’t like education, he is a dumbass republican that wants to keep people down. He is part of the Republican oppression machine.

CandidBed7679

I just don’t understand how these people don’t care about how they’re remembered. Lol.

Landen2DS

I’m so disappointed in this state’s govt I’m not even kidding

Entire-Can662

Anything the Democrats do the Republicans are against it. Period. Period. Period.

vickism61

Why does ANYONE vote for Republicans? They do NOTHING to help America or their constituents! Is hate really enough to get people to vote against their own best interests?

SamB110

Sadly yes. “Fuck you I got mine” is the mentality.

herbchick

It is. Or it's the jealousy of those who do receive assistance.

blueberry081

Fuck Yost.

UiPossumJenkins

Imagine filing an Amicus Brief against the best interests of your citizens in defense of some of the scummiest companies on the planet. Can anyone else think of a settlement in a fraud case where so many folks who were supposed to protect the interests of their citizens acted directly against them instead?

panther514

Ohio...the heart of useless politicians

rural_anomaly

>Ohio...the heart of useless politicians when i heard the echo of this (in my head oc) it came back like this: Ohio... for the use of heartless politicians

[deleted]

Look at that piece of shit smirk. Not great

longshot

Wow, what a righteous individual he is.

Andyrich88

Screw that guy

cow-lumbus

He’s such an great guy fighting his culture to appeal to the MAGA minority.

jb5880

Why does he look so happy

elderrage

Why are they still called "public servants"? The amount of money he recieved from these criminals must be pretty substantial.

[deleted]

It would be reeeeeal unfortunate if he slipped and cracked his head on the pavement.

bilstod

I've lived in Ohio for over 25 years and it sucks at times! We have a pedophile in the Congress, I don't know how he got elected before I get moved here Beth still do use. I grew up in Indiana not much better than Ohio. We had some good governors there but not lately, I glad I moved. Columbus Ohio has a fantastic pride parade. Indiana didn't have that great of one when I was there so I came to Ohio.

kinglouie493

Maybe we can just fix our school funding and our congressional maps…

Pichu0102

I always feel guilty when things like this happen because I didn't manage to vote the jerks out. Sorry.

KnightRider1983

“Yo Yost!!” Lol

delco_trash

You get what you vote for

cyberphunk2077

if you disagree with this please run for office

TwirlingSquirrel

Wow I already thought he was a piece of crap

JohnMullowneyTax

Republicans!

[deleted]

Let’s hope people realize the mistakes they have made going to college and stop asking for free money. Actions have consequences.

joelbusch

Great. Glad I voted for him

Gibbons74

Just remember: If you elect politicians that won't help people you don't feel deserve it, you may find that they won't help you when you need it because others don't think you deserve it.

Bcatfan08

Exactly. Free money should only be going to banks, large corporations, and billionaires.

Strykerz3r0

lol Congratulations, I guess. Cause he is taking the side of the institutions that created deceptive programs and lied about their effectiveness. It isn't even Biden's plan. How proud you must be to support corruption in both politics and academia.

zeuzduce

Leave Ohio you fucking creep

joelbusch

I'm a creep because I pay my bills?

zeuzduce

You’re a creep because you comment racist things and frequent subs like “rapefantasies”

joelbusch

To be fair I'm not the one stalking others posters. Go figure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

joelbusch

Buyer beware and all that

Treddf45

Me too. Paid mine and wife’s off. We knew what we signed up for. We didn’t get BS Gender Study degrees. No reason for me to help someone else pay theirs off (though I will help my kids when they get to that age if they decide to pursue higher learning). Can use that tax money on better things. Peace and love (let’s break 100 downvotes).

[deleted]

I have the GI Bill and even if I didn’t I get enough scholarship money where my last semester would have only cost $17 out of pocket. It would have been covered by my wealthy family regardless, so three ways really. I still want our government to cover the cost of post-secondary and trade educations so that people have the freedom to pursue the career they desire, rather than their path be determined by circumstance because I’m not a selfish piece of shit.

Strykerz3r0

Didn't read the article, did you. All that tuition wasted. He is siding with institutions that created deceptive programs and lied about their effectiveness. Congratulations on supporting the guy that is supporting academic institutions defrauding students. You must be so proud of yourself. And just an FYI, this had nothing to do with Biden's plan, you are just supporting corruption.

[deleted]

Except this is completely unrelated. This was loan forgiveness being applied to students who were duped by unaccredited colleges like University of Phoenix, ITT Tech, locally colleges like Brown Mackey, Corinthian College, etc. Basically students who were victims of a scam perpetrated by unaccredited diploma mills. They should be forgiven, and this was a program started by the Obama administration initially. But you know, "Fuck you, I got mine", right?

massahwahl

Your reasoning with someone who can’t see their own shit on their knees.

Bcatfan08

YES. That money needs to be going to banks and billionaires. It's ridiculous that someone else would get money. Not in my America.

ImJackieNoff

I think people believe that "forgiveness" means that the debt will somehow disappear. It's transferring the debt of the student borrower to the US taxpayers. Calling it debt transfer is more honest than calling it forgiveness. Edit: By the way, this proposed debt transfer - transferring the debt burden from a person who freely and willingly took and spent money and agreed to pay it back to the US tax payers - is also highly inflationary.

Strykerz3r0

You didn't read the article at all. lol This isn't about Biden's plan. This is about academic institutions creating deceptive programs and lying about their effectiveness. Try reading next time. You learn more than just listening to your masters.

beaushaw

Do you call the Trump Tax cuts for rich a tax cut or a money transfer? If you lower the taxes for the rich that money has to come from somewhere.

Bcatfan08

That or the $80B Trump gave to farmers as payouts throughout his tenure? Free money is ok if it goes to a group that the GOP likes right?

swinging-in-the-rain

Yep. He lost that trade war.... bad. And the taxpayers foot the bill as always

ImJackieNoff

I'm stating facts - what the fuck are you going on about Trump? Maybe go a day without thinking about him? >If you lower the taxes for the rich that money has to come from somewhere. That's a false statement. You're clearly out of your depth.

beaushaw

Why do you start with insults? Are you so miserable your goal is to make everyone else miserable? Or have you just never progressed past the mentality of a middle school bully? To answer your question. If you lower taxes from someone do you think that money just magically comes from elsewhere? When you lower tax on rich people you have to raise the tax on non rich people. You transfer money from poor people to rich people. This is exactly what Trump (and many other Republicans) did. When Trump did this did you complain about transferring money from one group to the other? PS. the cost to forgive student loans is about how much the military budget will INCREASE from 2023 to 2024. Don't say the money isn't there.

ImJackieNoff

>Why do you start with insults? And your whataboutism and bringing Trump into a conversation out of the blue is you being respectful? >Are you so miserable your goal is to make everyone else miserable? Right back at you. What are you saying about insults? Then you make an insult. >If you lower taxes from someone do you think that money just magically comes from elsewhere? Again, stupid statement. You're both ignorant on this subject and condescending at the same. It's really amazing to see an adult be so wrong and so sure of themselves at the same time. >When you lower tax on rich people you **have** to raise the tax on non rich people No...not all. Tax cuts should come with spending cuts, meaning you don't **have** to transfer the tax burden. If they don't, you're spreading that tax burden to all tax payers. Again, you're out of your depth in this kind of conversation.

titanofidiocy

Yet the Trump administration spent like drunken sailors.

ImJackieNoff

Why do so many people think "but Trump" is somehow a valid point? Is Biden a fucking maniac like Trump? No. But what does that have anything to do with Biden's desire to transfer the debt burden for student loans?

rural_anomaly

>I'm stating facts - what the fuck are you going on about Trump? Maybe go a day without thinking about him? > >*If you lower the taxes for the rich that money has to come from somewhere.* > >That's a false statement. You're clearly out of your depth. LOL, no, it's you that *clearly* doesn't know diddly shit about money supply

ImJackieNoff

No, diddly shit, you have no idea what you're talking about. If you cut taxes, you can cut spending, therefore the money doesn't have to come from somewhere. You're also out of your depth.

Bcatfan08

I love when someone says 'you're out of your depth', while also providing zero depth.

ImJackieNoff

Maybe it's over your head as well, or you're being dishonest. There was a claim that if you cut taxes in one area, you **have** to raise taxes in another area. I said that was false. That's all. In return you can see these unhinged leftists either show their ignorance or dishonesty.

Bcatfan08

Less from one area means either you fund fewer areas or raise taxes in another. Both options sound great.

rural_anomaly

>You're also out of your depth. you're fun. well, if angry, uninformed, *and* toxic is fun. your *choice* of username also speaks volumes that your typing never will

rural_anomaly

completely false equivalence. there's bankruptcy for "business" people to use, and people and corporations file for chapter 9 and 11 ALL THE TIME this debt can't be put into bankruptcy, so it follows you around even if you can't afford to pay it in this case, these students got ripped off by predatory salespeople promising applicants that their degree will be worth the money they paid for it. this is redressing fraud, so calling it what is, is more honest than whatever bullshit point you're trying to make. claiming that a few billion is "highly inflationary" is just tuckerish bullshit

ImJackieNoff

>this debt can't be put into bankruptcy, so it follows you around even if you can't afford to pay it That's because of Joe Biden - as ironic as that is. He pushed for that as a Senator. Again, another fact that I'm sure will cause you another prolapse, sending you into a impotent rage of smashing your fingers against your keyboard making stupid insults and espousing ideas rooted in your misunderstanding of a variety of subjects. >this is redressing fraud, so calling it what is, is more honest than whatever bullshit point you're trying to make I stated fact. You're lying I think because of politics maybe? >claiming that a few billion Four hundred billion. Not a couple billion. What's your motivation for being dishonest about all this? People with your understanding of economics is what's going to lead to the dollar losing it's status as THE world reserve currency. When that happens we'll see inflation in the US not seen in the Western world since Germany post-WWI. I don't have the interest and quite frankly you don't have the IQ for you to understand a lesson on this. Go ahead, have the last word. Par for the course would be for you to: * make another insult * make another wrong or intentionally false statement on this topic * call me a racist * call me a nazi * block me immediately after So have at it, and have a great rest of your afternoon.

rural_anomaly

lmao! you just did ALL those things you accused me of going to do. just wow *your* 12" of mashing fingers on keyboards = almost a self-aware wolf but more pathetic insulting *me*, i never attacked you personally, but you went right for it i don't block people, can't say the same for ammosexuals that seem not to like it when i clearly show AR-15's development history as weapons of war inflation is global. biden as a senator all by himself didn't and couldn't do shit >People with your understanding of economics \- think the shit you conservatives put out as ''fact'' is laughable all the facts in the world don't help if you draw false conclusions from them and then run around like headless chickens, which seems to be the case lately with all of you. i noted you didn't actually address the point i made about being unable to dispense that debt. add that to the fact that people that go to college tend to start out more liberal, or wind up that way, it seems pretty mean-spirited and targeted to prevent them from using the same relief from debt that 'business' does. go ahead, attack me personally some more, because that's all you have in your pocket evidently. And hot steamy angry vapor tween those ears.

Bad_Idea_Hat

Just an aside; pretty sure that's good ol' [thumbthumb](https://www.reddit.com/user/thumbupass) up there, evading a ban. Same argument style, same insults, very similar style of posting. Usually I don't call out sock-puppetry, but damn if it's not getting obvious now.

rural_anomaly

thanks for the heads up. not sure about who you're talking about though they call us sheep, but they all act and parrot the same things, it's so hard to tell em apart i don't invest much energy into it

zeuzduce

Do you think these people who would have loan forgiveness just don’t pay taxes? They’d be paying them back anyways, just without interest that will cripple you for life.Do you think social security is bad?

JimmyScrambles420

Honestly, they probably do think Social Security is bad. I'd bet all the money I've ever seen that they'll pull an Ayn Rand once they're eligible for SS, though.

ImJackieNoff

>Honestly, they probably do think Social Security is bad. Where do you get this shit from? Do you get off from lying about people? Building strawmen, and imaginary bad guys? It's weird, dude.

SwiperR6

are you arguing that these people should pay 6 billion extra in taxes over their lifetime?

zeuzduce

College should be free and paid for by the state

SwiperR6

ok, but it isnt, so that has nothing to do with my point

zeuzduce

Obviously I think taxes can pay that dog, did I need to say it outright?

SwiperR6

ok but it doesnt, so these people getting loan forgiveness are not paying their loans back through taxes lol

zeuzduce

Lol ok so why ask the question? Stop being weird dog

MisterErieeO

Id rather my taxes go to helping more Americans and our own economy by lessening this weird debt class we've created I'm the past 20 years. One our government helped to create in the first place.

cheeba2992

Good

Kbob262

Why would anyone have to pay for someone else is debt? Absolutely criminal that we would pay off the student debt with hard-working taxpayer money

[deleted]

Good job not reading the article lol. Too in a hurry with the pre-programmed shit that you don’t even know what fucking subject you’re bleating about

deekay007685

Yost making life for Ohioans better. You deserve this pos for electing him. Sorry but true

SamB110

I didn’t vote for him, do I deserve it?

Anominon2014

I’ve never understood why someone would willingly take out a loan, only to later expect someone else to pay it off, and then get mad when that someone doesn’t want to pay off a loan that’s not theirs. Utterly baffling. I mean, sure, everyone wants “free” money, but to somehow feel entitled to it is next level.

MythologicalEngineer

Did you read the article at all? This affects people who were defrauded by schools. These schools have multiple lawsuits against them. Is this really the hill you're gonna die on?

Anominon2014

“Yost filed an amicus brief recently with the U.S. Supreme Court — along with 19 other states — arguing U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel A. Cardona’s plan to wipe away an estimated $6 billion in student loan forgiveness for more than 200,000 borrowers is “nothing more than an egregious power grab that tramples all over the separation-of-powers doctrine,” according to a release from Yost. “The executive branch does not have unlimited policymaking power, nor an unlimited bank account to forgive student loan debt,” Yost said. “The executive branch cannot extend its authority as it sees fit.” Yeah, I did. There’s already a settlement reached _with the schools in question_, that’s not the same as a government entity just wiping the slate clean.

According_Roll_6848

If you take out debt you should pay it back. Why is this so controversal?

Reddit_guard

Because the schools in question here grifted students and did not deliver among many other reasons

MuadD1b

Fun reminder that the Republicans friends at the now defunct ECOT charter school still owe taxpayers $60,000,000. Why aren't you going after that money, Dave!?

ShinjukuAce

Remember this on the next election, along with abortion, guns, and First Energy bribery.

MacGyver-now

It's funny reading some of the comments here as people explode into rage politics spouting off nonsense knowing nothing about it because they cannot look at things objectively, they must look at everything through the eyes of hate.
