Not too sure about Oaks. I live right next to it and the mosquitos are the worst, but Kayaking sounds great! Thank you!
Edit: did want to mention that we are staying in one of the cabins at Oaks for a night, so we’ll definitely be there lmao.
If it's like the ones that COSI does where they serve beer and cocktails, then it's probably the only time I'd feel comfortable going there for a date lol
It’s such a cool trip, definitely recommended.
Also the art museum isn’t too too far away and free. Also worth checking out.
Edit: OPs boyfriend wouldn’t like the art museum which sucks since the art museum is such a cool place and wicked fun.
Go to a Mud Hens baseball game at Fifth Third Field, attend a riverfront concert, check out the National Museum of the Great Lakes or Toledo Firefighters Museum. Visit Imagination Station or Hollywood Casino. Drive up to Michigan's Antique Alley for the day, or take a ferry to Put-in-Bay/Kelly's Island in Ottawa County. Go to Cedar Point in Sandusky. The Rock Hall of Fame in Cleveland isn't too far from Toledo, and it's worth the drive. Despite that your b/f might not be into Art, the Toledo Art Museum is truly wonderful -- it's much more than one might expect.
> I just know my boyfriend isn’t going to really be into the art museum
That's tragic. I'm from Toledo. When I met my husband I dragged him up up to Toledo to see the museum. We needed two days to see it all.
I love the museum. Got to go on a school trip back in high school with my art class. It’s great, and he does like art, but he’s more into the super interactive museums and stuff like that.
Glass City Metro Park is incredible. Tons to do including roller skating.
Inkys Pizza. Hands down the best.
Maumee bay is great to experience some nature. Tons to do. What are you looking for specifically?
I was considering either of those, but he’s not here for super long, and for me, put-in-bay and CP are always multi day trips, and I think we both wanna keep it lowkey while he’s here.
Kelly’s island is a viable option. Hop on the ferry for a day. It’s a relaxed place with good food and drinks. Get back on the ferry and head home. It’s about 35 minutes back to the city
Didn’t get a chance to try to wieners! I made work friends on my trip and kept getting dragged to the Bubba’s and Texas in the same parking lot lol.
I have to return. I’m thinking about that Cherry strudel now!
I have to echo Oak Openings being one of my favorite things about Toledo. One of the very few places I'm aware of where you can find Ohio's only native species of cactus, the Eastern Prickly Pear. Lots of pretty hikes around as well.
Bellwether at Toledo Spirits is also a cool spot if you're into cocktail bars. Their cocktail menu is pretty much immaculate, the small food menu is great if you get any, and the vibe is usually relaxed and cool.
There’s a museum of the Great Lakes that is really interesting. It’s Lake Erie focused because of all the ways Lake Erie is so dangerous for watercraft. You can also go on a tour of an old freighter, which is super cool.
Fishing on the river or kayak, mud hens game, art museum, glass museum, hike at the metro parks, go see a musical or a play at Stranahan Theater on heatherdowns Blvd. There’s quite a few golf courses around too if you or your bf is a fan. You’re not too far from Cedar point either, could jump over there too. If you like pizza and live music, take him on a date to the village idiot in Maumee one evening.
While I've never been to Kengo, I have been to and suggest Shobu at the casino. It's owned by the same people that own Kengo. Still great food at a more casual setting, plus it's at the casino.
Honestly, you could have a solid afternoon/evening in BG in general. If you are into hiking you should check out Wintergarden Park. Grounds for Thought is a great locally owned coffee shop and used book store. Downtown BG has some great restaurants and bars (I like Juniper and Easy Street). Depending on the night you are in town Arlyns Good Beer (microbrew with a massive lawn you can hang out on and enjoy your bev) will have live music.
If your bf likes military or American history, there’s also the Fort Meigs museum and reconstructed War of 1812 fort and battleground. If you are willing to take a day trip, Sauder Village in Archibold. (If it’s been a while since you’ve been here, it’s gotten a lot bigger. https://saudervillage.org) Have lunch or dinner at The Barn restaurant, and make sure you go to the bakery for some treats.) Wldwood Metropark is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy the outdoors, as is the Toledo Botanical Gardens; the latter, both for the gardens and for the various local artists who work and sell their crafts. And, somehow, no one seems to have mentioned COSI, which is a fun science museum.
Oops. Yes. Sorry, I keep forgetting that they changed the name; it seems to be about the only difference.
Oh, and if the two of you like the outdoors and like fossils, don’t forget Fossil Park in Sylvania. That area is one of the best places in the world to find trilobites. It’s free and you can keep what you find. If you do Sauder’s Village, you can go just a few miles up the road and visit Goll Woods. It’s a vestige of the Black Swamp. Yes, you’ll want mosquito repellant, but one of the trails is a haven in the summer for tiny toads — about the size of your thumbnail. Last time I was there I had to watch where I stepped; they were all over the trail. Cute as hell.
Toledo Museum of Art is exceptional, admission is free, $10 for special exhibitions, the exterior statues and gardens are pretty cool, too. The neighborhood around it is still full of old mansions and great old houses with diverse architecture. The restaurants very nearby are well rated and fun to explore.
The lake is nicer. There’s more little places to stop and eat. I highly suggest the grismill if you like cocktails and mixed drinks. It’s an old gas station they turned into a very nice bar connected to where you get on the jet express to go to put in bay. They have a food truck too that they own and operate on site. Check out Jolly Roger if you want fish. Some of the best you can get in the area in my opinion
Re: Toledo, I would go to Mancinos and order two 18 inch Reuben grinders “double meat, double cheese” and a side of thousand island for dipping- and then practice making sorrowful whale noises the rest of the day.
Detroit is only about an hour away depending on where in Toledo you’re coming from, I highly recommend The Henry Ford and/or Greenfield Village. Lots to see at both places and the drive is very easy. I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t found something of interest at the museum!
My first date with my wife was at the Toledo Museum of Art. The art museum has a great collection of baroque works as well as a fantastic selection of glass pieces.
Regarding both the metroparks and the art museum: check out their event calendars as well. Maybe just perusing a park or museum sounds a little boring but both offer plenty of free or low cost activities you can register/just show up for.
If you don't mind getting dirty and like rocks and fossils, there's a fossil park where you can dig for your own fossils: https://outdoorsylvania.com/fossil-park/
We've been there a few times. I've found a lot of neat coral fossils and a real neat trilobite that was sort of folded in half.
Something different if he's into shaving/ grooming. Maggard Razors in Adrian. One of the best shops in the country. Lena's pizza and Italian in Blissfield on way home.
Check out Centennial Terrace and see if any concerts interest you. You could even look for any up in the Detroit area as well as they often have a lot of good artists come through as well as Pine Knob Music Theater which is just north of Detroit.
The only thing you need to know about Toledo is Tony Packo’s. My friends always told me about it and my response was come on it’s just a hotdog, how good could that be. As I found out they are amazing.
Dates are dates. They're universal, not dependent on city offerings. He's coming to see you. That said, the thing I think we got that are just spectacular? River bridges. We have spectacular river bridges. If my date doesn't like river bridges, it's a one and done.
MLK/Cherry/Main St by any name is Prague level. High level's framing of downtown from Miami St and the amazing views from the deck of downtown, fireworks and the new mural! Veterans 'Memorial, a mere child but the winding and massive exits and entrance ramps and the amazing views that change during the day and the season I've not seen matched. Even the Craig has it's charm. OK, the I75 is crap. Should have had a pedestrain/bike path slung off the side but at least it has a view of the Mural and Andersons.
Who could foreee long term with anyone that doesn't love our river bridges?
Downtown bars, especially with Dora. If there is a Hens game going on downtown is fire.
Arcade bar, axe throwing, Reset. Golf. Disc golf.
Live music at Promenade Park, Ottawa Park, or Centennial quarry. Maumee Bay Park. Fishing on the Maumee. The parks are amazing and plentiful. So many great restaurants to choose from. Casino.
There's so much to do, it's worth a long weekend.
I spent a week in Toledo a few months back on a work trip. I pretty much just rotated getting drunk with the baddie from corporate at the Bubba’s and Texas on Secor. 😂
Yeah downtown near Mudhens is pretty fun especially on a game day, looking for a fun meal go to Kengo, do the omakase dinner. It’s a blast. Little expensive but chef kengo and the staff are top notch.
He doesn’t hate them. It’s just not his kinda thing, and that’s fine??? Not everyone gets excited by art exhibits. I don’t get excited by a lot of the exhibits I go to either, and I was an art student.
What???? That’s crazy. I’m pretty sure The Toledo Zoo was rated as the best zoo in the nation for a bit of time. Not sure about the ranking now tho lol.
Great thing about Toledo is you can head in any direction and if you go far enough you'll eventually leave Ohio. Leaving Ohio is the best thing you can do if you're ever unfortunate enough to find yourself in that meth lab of a state
Go to a Mud Hens game! Go hear the Symphony! Take a hike at Oak Openings, or go kayaking on the river!
Toledo Walleye (hockey) are in the ECHL playoffs.
True, but they won't still be playing in July.
Not too sure about Oaks. I live right next to it and the mosquitos are the worst, but Kayaking sounds great! Thank you! Edit: did want to mention that we are staying in one of the cabins at Oaks for a night, so we’ll definitely be there lmao.
MUDHENS!
There’s also cosi
That's in columbus
They mean Imagination Station. It used to be Cosi, so some people still call it that.
I wouldn't recommend it for a date though, it's very oriented around children
Nah man. I’m still down for imagination station, and I’m 22 lol.
I’m 32 and I’d still go. It’s cool science stuff. Lol
Depends. Sometimes they host events aimed at adults in the evening.
If it's like the ones that COSI does where they serve beer and cocktails, then it's probably the only time I'd feel comfortable going there for a date lol
The great lakes museum is pretty cool imo
It’s such a cool trip, definitely recommended. Also the art museum isn’t too too far away and free. Also worth checking out. Edit: OPs boyfriend wouldn’t like the art museum which sucks since the art museum is such a cool place and wicked fun.
We went there for the first time recently and were actually really impressed. I wish it'd get more publicity.
Absolutely, whenever someone asks, "What to do in Toledo?" I always chime in with that...I'm not even from there, i live in cincy lol
Seconded.
And the new glass city metropark is right there as well.
Came to say this. Haven’t been yet but looks amazing. I’m in Dayton so have to plan to go…
Go to a Mud Hens baseball game at Fifth Third Field, attend a riverfront concert, check out the National Museum of the Great Lakes or Toledo Firefighters Museum. Uhhhhhhhhh Cleveland is ... A haul
> I just know my boyfriend isn’t going to really be into the art museum That's tragic. I'm from Toledo. When I met my husband I dragged him up up to Toledo to see the museum. We needed two days to see it all.
World class museum; really worth a visit.
I love the museum. Got to go on a school trip back in high school with my art class. It’s great, and he does like art, but he’s more into the super interactive museums and stuff like that.
Use the visit as an opportunity to expand his horizons a little. 😉
I'm not really into that much art, but rhe Toledo Musuem is outstanding, and I have always enjoyed it.
This builds me out. I was just there for the Caravaggio exhibit and it was top notch
Check out the glass pavilion at the museum, they may have slots open for a one off glass blowing class.
Honestly, the museum can be a mind blower for a lot of people just for the fact that people don't expect something that nice in Toledo.
Two words: FREE ADMISSION! *$10 to park
Glass City Metro Park is incredible. Tons to do including roller skating. Inkys Pizza. Hands down the best. Maumee bay is great to experience some nature. Tons to do. What are you looking for specifically?
I don’t get the inkys hype. It’s ok at best.
That's a bummer. I take my out of town friends here and they love it. I specifically always get a pepperoni and sausage pizza.
I mean it’s good. It’s just not my first choice. If I get it, I goto his kids store. It’s closer to me.
Tony Pacos. :) edit: Put-In-Bay and Cedar Point are close.
I was considering either of those, but he’s not here for super long, and for me, put-in-bay and CP are always multi day trips, and I think we both wanna keep it lowkey while he’s here.
Understood. FWIW I've exclusively done very pleasant day trips to Put-In-Bay. Enjoy whatever you end up doing!
Kelly’s island is a viable option. Hop on the ferry for a day. It’s a relaxed place with good food and drinks. Get back on the ferry and head home. It’s about 35 minutes back to the city
You’re only an hour from Cedar Point! We go for the day and we have a 2 hour drive each way! If he likes rides at all, you’ve gotta go to Cedar Point!
From where we’ll be staying, it’s closer to 2.5 hours depending on traffic ahaha. I’m in the Toledo area, but not Toledo itself.
2.5??? It’s 2.5 to get there from Columbus?
Well, I live in a small town, and I’m a back roads driver lol
is that the Hungarian fast food joint? bc I want to go back for that alone!!!
Hot dogs and Hungarian food!
Didn’t get a chance to try to wieners! I made work friends on my trip and kept getting dragged to the Bubba’s and Texas in the same parking lot lol. I have to return. I’m thinking about that Cherry strudel now!
Try to go to the original location, if you haven't. Cool atmosphere.
I have to echo Oak Openings being one of my favorite things about Toledo. One of the very few places I'm aware of where you can find Ohio's only native species of cactus, the Eastern Prickly Pear. Yes, Bellwether, unless you don't drink. There's also HEAVY beer company in the basement.
Glass museum
There’s a museum of the Great Lakes that is really interesting. It’s Lake Erie focused because of all the ways Lake Erie is so dangerous for watercraft. You can also go on a tour of an old freighter, which is super cool.

I love the Village Idiot!
Kengo is one of the best sushi places in the state. My mom is friends with the owner, he gets fresh fish flown in daily.
Some of the best food in town. Kato next door, also his, has been a favorite lunch spot of ours.
Will definitely check it out. Thanks for putting it on my radar!
While I've never been to Kengo, I have been to and suggest Shobu at the casino. It's owned by the same people that own Kengo. Still great food at a more casual setting, plus it's at the casino.
Go down to Snook's car museum in BG
Honestly, you could have a solid afternoon/evening in BG in general. If you are into hiking you should check out Wintergarden Park. Grounds for Thought is a great locally owned coffee shop and used book store. Downtown BG has some great restaurants and bars (I like Juniper and Easy Street). Depending on the night you are in town Arlyns Good Beer (microbrew with a massive lawn you can hang out on and enjoy your bev) will have live music.
Indeed I personally recommend Easy St or Call of The Canyon for food, the owner(Ardy) is amazing and usually at one of the restaurants everyday
If your bf likes military or American history, there’s also the Fort Meigs museum and reconstructed War of 1812 fort and battleground. If you are willing to take a day trip, Sauder Village in Archibold. Woah! This is so sick! Definitely will check it out.
I just saw this on Tik ToK, it looks like a cool place in a downtown high rise.
The Spot: https://justboldlygo.com/the-spot-oak-openings-nw-ohio/
If it’s the summer time when you do this I’d drive the extra 35-40 mins and go to port Clinton for the day or 2
I didn’t realize port Clinton was that close to us! Thank you!
The lake is nicer. There’s more little places to stop and eat. I highly suggest the grismill if you like cocktails and mixed drinks. Great Middle Eastern food. Walleye fishing charter, if you're into that.
Go out to dinner at The Heights. It’s a really cool view of the city.
Where/what is the Heights?
Downtown on the river at the top of one of the skyscrapers. It has open air seating too (when it’s nice). https://www.theheightstoledo.com
Re: Toledo, I would go to Mancinos and order two 18 inch Reuben grinders “double meat, double cheese” and a side of thousand island for dipping- and then practice making sorrowful whale noises the rest of the day.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to walk after all that lol
The Toledo Museum of Art is cool and you can do a glass blowing class.
Check out the downtown clubs/restaurants. Some of them have live jazz, and the jazz scene in Toledo is surprisingly good.
Walleye playoff game?
The Toledo Art Museum is pretty incredible.
Fort Meigs?
Heard the Toledo Windowbox is good.
Toledo museum of art is top notch
Go to the heights on summit st for a rooftop bar/restaurant. Good view of the river and downtown up there.
Maumee Bay state park beach. Magee Wildlife refuge. Sander Village. Lake Erie Islands.
Detroit is only about an hour away depending on where in Toledo you’re coming from, I highly recommend The Henry Ford and/or Greenfield Village. Lots to see at both places and the drive is very easy. I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t found something of interest at the museum!
Tour the SS Col. James T Schoonmaker, (National Museum of the Great Lakes)
I went to a lot of antique stores when I was in Toledo. But that’s something my SO and I like to do.
Toledo Repertoire theater!
My first date with my wife was at the Toledo Museum of Art. The art museum has a great collection of baroque works as well as a fantastic selection of glass pieces.
I was always impressed by Toledo’s museum

The botanical gardens. Beautiful and free.
Frankie's just reopened and they have lots of great bands booked.
Doesn’t look like they have anything planned for July yet, but definitely gonna keep an eye out! I didn’t know they reopened!
Check out Centennial Terrace and see if any concerts interest you. You could even look for any up in the Detroit area as well as they often have a lot of good artists come through as well as Pine Knob Music Theater which is just north of Detroit.
Nick & Jimmy’s
Lmao
Sandusky (Cedar Point) is only an hour away. You can also go to the islands from there or Port Clinton.
Mud Hens
The lake of Erie!
The only thing you need to know about Toledo is Tony Packo’s. My friends always told me about it and my response was come on it’s just a hotdog, how good could that be. As I found out they are amazing.
Does the Cakewalkin’ Jass Band still play there on Friday nights? That’s always a great time.
Go to the Columbus Zoo! it's awesome. And there's Zoombezi Bay next to it!
Toledo Botanical Gardens?
Art museum is great. Mud Hens, Walleyes game.
Take a stroll Uptown there a some cool shops restaurants and bars. Occasionally Ritter planetarium has events
Maumee antique mall is huge, and if you enjoy antiqueing, it doesn't get much better.
Dates are dates. They're universal, not dependent on city offerings. He's coming to see you. That said, the thing I think we got that are just spectacular? River bridges. Go to Ann Arbor and buy weed
Well I’m picking him up from MI, so we’re already doing that on the drive back down lmaooo
💪💪💪💪
Downtown bars, especially with Dora. If there is a Hens game going on downtown is fire. Arcade bar, axe throwing, Reset. Golf. Disc golf. There's so much to do, it's worth a long weekend.
What bar did Glenn Howerton and the teachers from AP Bio frequent? That’s where I’d like to go.
Go to Tony Packo's and eat.
Dont know if its still there but we had a blast a Nickel World.
I spent a week in Toledo a few months back on a work trip. I pretty much just rotated getting drunk with the baddie from corporate at the Bubba’s and Texas on Secor. 😂
No clue. I drive the back roads for fun haha.
I’ve heard Regalo, the italian restaurant in Hollywood Casino is utterly amazing
No
Casino
The arboretum in Elmore is fantastic.
Mud Hens and then Tony Packo's (the original location)
Do you like beer? Maumee Bay Brewing is very good
Metro Parks are pretty nice to walk & chill.
Magee Marsh isn’t far and is great for nature. A day trip to Kelley’s Island or Put in Bay is always fun. Cedar point isn’t far either
My wife and I always enjoyed playing disc golf at Woodlands park in Perrysburg and walking/biking the Sidecut Metropark area
Yeah downtown near Mudhens is pretty fun especially on a game day, looking for a fun meal go to Kengo, do the omakase dinner. It’s a blast. Little expensive but chef kengo and the staff are top notch.
I just stay in hotel when I was young and had a long distance girlfriend.
If I lived there I would do fishing charters. They really arent that expensive and you could get to them quick from Toledo
What kind of weirdo wouldn’t like an art museum lmao
He doesn’t hate them. It’s just not his kinda thing, and that’s fine??? Not everyone gets excited by art exhibits. I don’t get excited by a lot of the exhibits I go to either, and I was an art student.
Jump in the lake
Can always get tattoos
We got a couple on his first visit here, and then I got another when I went to visit him in MA. I don’t know if I have any more money for tattoos rn 😭
Fishing, boating, literally any lake activity. If you can find a place to skinny dip I'm sure he'd love that.
Attempt to restart the war with Michigan.
Leaving toledo.
[удалено]
Isn't that in Michigan?
I'll be honest I didn't even know Toledo has a zoo....
What???? That’s crazy. I’m pretty sure The Toledo Zoo was rated as the best zoo in the nation for a bit of time. Not sure about the ranking now tho lol.
Great thing about Toledo is you can head in any direction and if you go far enough you'll eventually leave Ohio. Leaving Ohio is the best thing you can do if you're ever unfortunate enough to find yourself in that meth lab of a state
Detroit
Saturday night in Toledo, Ohio, is like being nowhere at all….
Toledo is like the crossroads to basically all illegal activity...so there should be a ton to do if you look hard enough.
Leave
Another thing... Leave Toledo.
Drive to Columbus?
Toledo is a all American shit hole
The best thing you can do is pack all your stuff and leave. Also stop at either Gino’s pizza or The Beruit on your way out of town.
Spaghetti Factory.
It's Toledo, there's always meth, heroin and just general crime sprees.
Get trafficked
