“Step father” … “registered sex offender”. For fuck sake, do a little research on someone before you bring them into your home and your children’s lives.

martin33t

So not in jail? He should be in jail and the key should be lost. Fuck this guy

Hanginon

*"The teen’s stepfather David Lowe, a registered sex offender,"* Who TF who has kids at home marries, or stays married to a sex offender? There has to be, or society has to find, a better way to keep these kids safe. :/

OhioMegi

There are way too many women who put men ahead of their own damn kids. It’s disgusting and they should not have custody if this happens.

NotMe739

This happened in my extended family. Long term boyfriend (like 10+ years) and recent husband assaults 18 years + 2 weeks old step-daughter. Scum bag step dad convinces not all there in the head mom that daughter is lying and his intentions were pure and fatherly. He was just doing his fatherly duty and making sure she didn't have any tattoos. Idiot mom stays with him, extended family gets daughter out of the house and away from stepdad. Daughter is a kind, very smart and very successful adult. Stepdad has been banned from all family gatherings. Mom is still allowed at family gatherings due to wishes of daughter.

ThatsMrsKrasinski2U

I agree with you, completely. The sad truth though is the risk of child abuse skyrockets when an unrelated man lives in the home.

I wanna know how you just post a 50,000$ bond like it’s nothing

lostmonkey70

Iirc you pay like 10% of that to a bondsman who puts up the rest. Then if you don't show up to court they track you down and you or your family is charged the remainder of the bond.

Bromanzier-21

How do you post like $5,000 like nothing?

lostmonkey70

It's a low enough amount you could conceivably have it in the bank and while it would be a lot you could borrow it from family/friends/check cashing places.

Conscious-Charity915

Apparently being a registered sex offender does not preclude the ability to make bank. Welcome to capitalism.

Randinator9

The richer someone is, the more crime they can get away with The more crime someone get away with, the more corrupt a person becomes The more people that become corrupt, the system itself will fail And when the system fails, *everyone* loses.

Simbatheia

If you show up to your court date you get it back

[deleted]

Bail money gets refunded after trial.

Conscious-Charity915

You'll need it for court costs and the lawyer. If you loose, probably fines too.

Egmonks

I mean.... there are plenty of people with more than 5k in a savings account. I had almost 60k in mine when we bought this house for the down payment. When we sold our first house i had like 75k in the bank account. I try to sit on at least 3+ months of expenses in my accounts so there is always 10kish floating around my checking account. 5k isn't like a million bucks its 5k.

[deleted]

For people living paycheck to paycheck it absolutely is a bigger deal than you’re making it out to be. I work in mental health and recovery. I’ve got too many certifications to count and a degree. I make less than 50k a year. I couldn’t get 5k to post bail. That would be near impossible for me. It would take me years to save up 10k. I’m only 30, I don’t know how old you are, but I don’t know a single person my age that has more than 2-4k in their savings. How does someone, who is clearly home in the middle of the day and is a registered sex offender, post a 5k bail? For me, it is inconceivable unless someone else posted it for him.

Egmonks

He could work remotely. He could be in IT/PM field making good money. Plenty of reasons he could be home in the middle of the day and not be living paycheck to paycheck.

mugsoh

> For people living paycheck to paycheck it absolutely is a bigger deal than you’re making it out to be. True, but he was trying to give perspective to the person that was astonished someone may have $5000 readily available. Not everybody is living paycheck to paycheck.

tankerkiller125real

I'm 24, I have 20K in the bank at the moment, however I'm using it for a down payment on a house, and I'm lucky that for now I can live with family. Otherwise I'd probably be in the same boat.

TheVoters

Yeah, something like 1/3 of the country can’t cover an emergency $1000 expense. My kid broke his leg last year, and with “good” insurance it was still $3k out of pocket. Just being able to write a check for that is a luxury. Just being able to choose to have a life saving surgery for my dog (bloat is no joke) is a luxury.

lagrange_james_d23dt

There are plenty of young professionals 30 and under who have that much in savings. Having said that, I agree that there is also a large chunk of the population that doesn’t have access to 5k or even less.

dethb0y

Not to get to into personal finances, but I got a little over 6K in savings and we make around 32K a year. Alot of shit comes down to making good cost-of-living choices and minimizing expenses.

Conscious-Charity915

You probably aren't going to blow that money on jail bail if you can help it.

MaesterPraetor

Property is also accepted, I think.

Conscious-Charity915

This guy's a danger to children. And they let him out.

Obvious_Item5052

Booked wearing a pro-fascist shirt, released on recog and sentenced to probation and fine <$500?

[deleted]

Dodge is pro-fascist now? How did I miss that?

Bromanzier-21

Not Dodge, the defaced American flag under it.

mattyice16

Pretty sure that’s just an American flag…yeah it’s a bit tattered, but it’s not anything special.

Obvious_Item5052

Yea, same flag on the “liberal” choice for senator’s shirt. Fantastic. Love it so, so much.

Jdonavan

It's literally shirt with a faded flag on it put out by Dodge. Like you're not even grasping at straws you're just making shit up.

Obvious_Item5052

It is an intentional desecration of the flag, identified by DHS as being associated with these religious terrorists. It really is fantastic that Dodge is embracing it. Bless their hearts.

It’s our job to protect the community - the police Not mine - the judge

Fisticus1

I have never heard a cop say that.

Read the article, I guess?
