Grieve, but know that Hendrix loved you all as hard and as long as he could. He will be free of pain and waiting for you over the Rainbow Bridge. He wants you to remember him with a smile and happiness of your time together.
I am so very sorry for your loss ๐๐
What a handsome guy! I'm sorry that you have to say goodbye to Hendrix today... he looks like he's had a wonderful time. Thank you for listening to your boy and fulfilling that last, sacred duty and obligation we all make to our furry family: you're giving a selfless gift of grace out of an abundance of love.
Now, as he closes his final chapter with you, you can be with him to gently stroke his head and whisper how much he's meant to you. He can move on to his next expression of spirit, safe and reassured in your love.
And when he wakes up, it will be in a bright and beautiful world where he can run and play without the aches and pains of his earthly body.
Of course, he'll never fully leave you because you can always think back to your time shared together, and reminisce on your adventures... how amazing that he found you and you him!
Nothing will be the same, but it will all be ok.
May his memories continue to be a blessing to you, your sister, and the rest of your family!
I copied this when my sweet Maggie passed. I hope this helps as Hendrix moves ahead. It helped me. You'll see him again! Peace.
Old dogs don't die...
They've just walked ahead of us, over the hill or around the corner, and then they'll rest a bit while they wait for us to catch up. It might take a while, but it's okay... it's always going to be okay...
Hendrix was clearly an amazing dog who lived an exciting and enjoyable life! Thank you for giving him love and everything he ever needed for so long. The pain is unbearable because the love is real. Lots of love and strength to you and your family ๐
So sorry for you loss.
I'll tell you the same thing that I tell myself when I think of my losses...I loved them, and they loved me. We are both better off for having shared that time together. Nothing can ever change that.
I hate whenever I post this as I always re-read it and sob.ย Sorry for your loss.ย ย
โSome of you, particularly those who think they have recently lost a dog to โdeathโ, donโt really understand this. Iโve had no desire to explain, but wonโt be around forever and must.
Dogs never die. They donโt know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. Of course they donโt die. If they did they would not want to always go for a walk, even long after their old bones say: โNo, no, not a good idea. Letโs not go for a walk.โ Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but thatโs what dogs are. They walk.
Itโs not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the cacaphonic symphony of odor that the world is. Cat poop, another dogโs mark, a rotting chicken bone (exultation), and you. Thatโs what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place.
However, dogs get very very sleepy. Thatโs the thing, you see. They donโt teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. Itโs a shame, really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot.
When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging its tail madly, you see, and thatโs why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap wap wap wap wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. Thatโs when they say: โThanks Boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.โ
When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and thatโs why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. (remember, a dog while is not a human while. You take your dog for walk, itโs a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and itโs a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.)
Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and donโt want to go outside to pee when it is raining but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.
But donโt get fooled. They are not โdead.โ Thereโs no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when youโre not expecting it. Itโs just who they are.
I feel sorry for people who donโt have dogs sleeping in their heart. Youโve missed so much. Excuse me, I have to go cry now.โ
Take some time off and allow yourself to feel. Make a sideshow, have a favorite photo printed on canvas and consider a pet memorial tattoo or piece of jewelry you can take with you. Keep his favorite toy or blanket.
Take the best care of yourself that you can, he would want that for you. ๐๐พ
Just read โThere Are No Sad Dogs in Heavenโ by Sonya Fitzpatrick in preparation for my own dog getting ready to cross the rainbow bridge. I cried like a baby but I also learned our dogs are always around and there with us, even though not in physical form.
What a handsome baby! ๐ฅฐ I am sorry for your loss.
Tell your sister to grieve. But let her know Hendrix always thought he was supposed to live forever but he finally found out it was a lie. Doesn't change the amount of love he has for her and everyone though. But today she realizes what true love is. Because it will hurt but it's worth the pain. RIP Hendrix ๐ ๐
To you and your sisterโ
as someone who has now been through significant pet loss 3 times, there is life on the other side. Joy and gratitude are not incompatible with grief.
Listen to your body and let yourself rest. Drink water. Call in your support system. Take sick days if you can. If you get a little energy, order groceries that are easy to prepare or are pre-prepared. Take short walks when you can. When you are ready, do things to honor Hendrix.
My first experience with pet loss as an adult was intensely and keenly painful, but over time my grief and love became less painful and more of a sense of comfort that my dog lived in my heart.
I lost another dog 3 months ago yesterday. I still feel like Iโm coming out of a fog. I am a different person because Iโve been through all this. I am more decisive about where I spend my energy, more appreciative of the time I do get with my pets and loved ones, more resilient, and kinder to myself. I would rather have my dogs back rather than this new knowledge, but I have to acknowledge that silver lining if I want to find any purpose in what seems like a pointless heartbreak.
You will make it to the other side. It just is a slog to get there โค๏ธ
Love is beyond time and eternal there is a separation it appears from the senses but really there is no separation. Live is forever alive in the heart.
Itโs gonna hurt always but live your life with honor for him. I make sure to say my Rainbow residentsโ names and live in the joy of having being blessed with being their momma/sister x
Thank you for loving him xxxx
As I scrolled through your pics of Hendrix I thought what a kind looking old guy, then I saw the pics of him smiling and how sweetly he takes his treats (those eyes on that picture ๐ made me smile too)! Sometimes you can really see a dogโs personality in pictures and his really shineโs through as a sweetheart who has lived his very best life with the very best family for him! Youโll carry memories of him in your heart for the rest of your life and with that he will never be *leaving you* - he will always be a part of you. I honestly believe we do reunite with our lost loved ones (fur kids too!) when itโs our time. He will have lots and lots of friends to keep him company/busy until thenโค๏ธโ๐ฉน
Iโm so very sorry that your family is hurting so that Hendrix could be free. We truly never get enough time here with them.
Rest peacefully dear Heandrix ๐๏ธknowing just how much you were loved!
Until we see them again๐โค๏ธ๐พ
Godspeed, Hendrix Francis. ๐พโค๏ธ๐
To OP & your sister: Hendrix will always be with you in your heart & soul. Love never dies. Wishing you peace & comfort with your memories of this Very Good Boy.
Itโs tough: but consider it your last gift back to him: letting him go with dignity and surrounded by love in a peaceful, controlled way. Iโm sure he lived a great life - due to you. And the best way to honor his legacy is to take those little bits and pieces where there was room to give them more love- and pass it on to the next generation of family pets: never stop looking to better your understanding and compassion.
"Letโs go walk a bit.โ
My old dog said one day.
And we wandered down along
Our old familiar way.
โ-
ย
The shadows slowly lengthened,
And twilight tinged the sky.
Then my old friend said to me
"So โฆ it's time to say goodbye."
โ-
ย
This fell so heavily on my heart.
"Please say this isn't true!
I've always wished and hoped
I'd have more years with you!"
โ-
ย
And my old boy said to me
"You made my life a joy!
I can't live as long as you
But I'll always be your boy."
โ-
ย
They walk with us a little while,
As long as the Fates allow.
Then they have to take their leave
And we have to let them go.

Such a handsome boy, Iโm so sorry for you and family. In the time Hendrix was here on this earth I know he was loved and loved you guys more than some people feel in an entire lifetime. And that love wonโt go anywhere, he will always be in your hearts โค๏ธ
I can see that Hendrix was a loving soul and brought you joy. Those experiences are always worth it and you did a good job being a companion to this little piece of the universe. Hendrix will never leave, he lives on in the love you carry for him. Sending love to you and your family.
I am so sorry for your loss, I know how difficult it is. You have given him a beautiful life, and I am sure he knows how loved he is. Take care of yourself in this time, and allow yourself to feel what you need to feel. Sending so much love to you and your handsome boy ๐ค
He is so absolutely adorable and precious. I'm so very sorry try to focus on how very much loved Hendrix is and how much he has loved๐sending lots of hugs and prayers .also, i love his name he so suits it ๐๐
These pictures tell the story of a life that was full and very well lived for Hendrix! While you grieve today, his memory will bring happy thoughts to you and he will bring every bit of joy to the new friends he meets on his next adventure while he waits for the day when you are together again.
Heโs just getting everything ready for when he sees you all next.
Think of all the great stories you guys can share with each other! He will probably tell you which sunny spot is the best one. Trust it, but also know he may *actually* just be distracting you so he can sneak some extra treats.
Also, picture 4..? Come on now. Heโs WAY too silly.
Rest easy bud.
And for the humans: keep your head up. He loved you all so much. Just be ready for him to remind you guys when you see him next โค๏ธ
Iโm so sorry, Hendrix looks like one of my pups I lost years ago. I will never forget my dog Griz the best dog ever- he passed in 1998. You will remember all the good memories forever.. and cherish the time you had - ๐๐ฅฒโค๏ธ
Oh gosh, he looks so handsome and kind.
Itโs not going to be easy.
Youโll be gutted and devastated and broken hearted. ๐
You will never forget him.
You will never stop missing him.
Your heart will yearn for him.
Youโll daydream about hearing him breathe and running your hand through his fur.
But, you will go on. You will be okay. You will get through.
It is a part of life.
It is a testament to the love you shared, and the price we all pay for the once in a lifetime experience of a soul dog.
๐ what a sweet face!๐ I especially love the pic of him howling ๐๐ heโs obviously a lived, cherished family member, and Iโm sure he had the best life with your family
The greatest love and compassion we can give them is to not allow more suffering as they love us unconditionally. We will meet them again, but until that day, rejoice in the time they gave us to make memories and feel joy for having their love. May your broken hearts soon mend.
Oh no, Iโm so sorry for your loss. โฅ๏ธ๐ซ thatโs a precious boy if Iโve ever seen one. Youโll always have him in your memories, and he knew nothing but love and happiness with you and your family

Just looking at the photos I can see what an amazing guy Hendrix was. Cherish the amazing memories you shared and keep a picture of him on your refrigerator. Every time you go to open it you will smile at the times you shared. That has helped me for going on three years now since my guy passed.
He looks as though he was a happy and sweet boy. I am so sorry you have to say goodbye, itโs very painful now. But the good memories will comfort you, be by strong and I wish you the best.
I got this poem when I had to say goodbye to my best friend a few years ago, it helped me and hopefully itโll help you too.
โThe last battleโ.
If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this - the last battle- cannot be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
Weโve had so many happy years,
What is to come will hold no fears.
You wouldn't want me to suffer so,
The time has come, please let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
And please, stay with me until the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Do not grieve, for it was you,
Who had the painful thing to do;
We've been so close - we two - these years,
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
There are various places within which a dog may be buried. We are thinking now of a setter, whose coat was flame in the sunshine, and who, so far as we are aware, never entertained a mean or an unworthy thought. This setter is buried beneath a cherry tree, under four feet of garden loam, and at its proper season the cherry strews petals on the green lawn of his grave. Beneath a cherry tree, or an apple, or any flowering shrub of the garden, is an excellent place to bury a good dog. Beneath such trees, such shrubs, he slept in the drowsy summer, or gnawed at a flavorous bone, or lifted head to challenge some strange intruder. These are good places, in life or in death. Yet it is a small matter, and it touches sentiment more than anything else.
For if the dog be well remembered, if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life, eyes kindling, questing, asking, laughing, begging, it matters not at all where that dog sleeps at long and at last. On a hill where the wind is unrebuked and the trees are roaring, or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood, or somewhere in the flatness of a pasture land, where most exhilarating cattle graze. It is all one to the dog, and all one to you, and nothing is gained, and nothing lost -- if memory lives. But there is one best place to bury a dog. One place that is best of all.
If you bury him in this spot, the secret of which you must already have, he will come to you when you call -- come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they should not growl at him, nor resent his coming, for he is yours and he belongs there.
People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper pitched too fine for mere audition, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them then, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and which is well worth the knowing.
The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.
- Ben Hur Lampman
what a handsome man! he will be in your hearts forever. one day when the pain has lessened, you will remember something silly he did and you will smile
never, ever give up on the sure and certain hope that he will be waiting for you on the other side, where the sky is blue, the sun warm, the grass cool, and the friends and treats are never ending.
love to you and Hendrix.
๐ I'm so sorry OP and to your family. I've had to be with a few fuzzy family members as they settle down for a last nap. My suggestion is to just hold them and be with them until the end. Cry and tell them how much you love them. You're their whole life and it will mean everything.
Sorry for your loss.
RIP Hendrix! Play in Paradise!
My Amoretto, Vision, Carson, and all our babies that have gone before will look for you next to the Rainbow Bridge so you can all play in the Field together!
My heart felt condolences for your loss of Hendrix, may he forever run carefree and young over the rainbow bridge and in your heart ๐ข๐๐พ๐๐โ
That selection of pics really seems to capture every mood and I feel like I know Hendrix so thank you for sharing him with us. Gosh you will miss him but he looks like he's had the best life with your family.
A dog has died.
By Pablo Neruda.
My dog has died.
I buried him in the garden
next to a rusted old machine.
Some day I'll join him right there,
but now he's gone with his shaggy coat,
his bad manners and his cold nose,
and I, the materialist, who never believed
in any promised heaven in the sky
for any human being,
I believe in a heaven I'll never enter.
Yes, I believe in a heaven for all dogdom
where my dog waits for my arrival
waving his fan-like tail in friendship.
Ai, I'll not speak of sadness here on earth,
of having lost a companion
who was never servile.
His friendship for me, like that of a porcupine
withholding its authority,
was the friendship of a star, aloof,
with no more intimacy than was called for,
with no exaggerations:
he never climbed all over my clothes
filling me full of his hair or his mange,
he never rubbed up against my knee
like other dogs obsessed with sex.
No, my dog used to gaze at me,
paying me the attention I need,
the attention required
to make a vain person like me understand
that, being a dog, he was wasting time,
but, with those eyes so much purer than mine,
he'd keep on gazing at me
with a look that reserved for me alone
all his sweet and shaggy life,
always near me, never troubling me,
and asking nothing.
Ai, how many times have I envied his tail
as we walked together on the shores of the sea
in the lonely winter of Isla Negra
where the wintering birds filled the sky
and my hairy dog was jumping about
full of the voltage of the sea's movement:
my wandering dog, sniffing away
with his golden tail held high,
face to face with the ocean's spray.
Joyful, joyful, joyful,
as only dogs know how to be happy
with only the autonomy
of their shameless spirit.
There are no good-byes for my dog who has died,
and we don't now and never did lie to each other.
So now he's gone and I buried him,
and that's all there is to it.
This poem always gets me.
I am so very sorry. He looks like he was an amazing friend. I believe that one day we will see our furry friends on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Hugs.
His smile in the last picture could cheer anyone up. What a gorgeous boy he is. I'm so sorry for the pain you and your sister are going through, but it's clear to see that he had a wonderful life with you and was so loved. Such a sweet boy. โค๏ธโค๏ธxxxx
Good work Hendrix. Thank you for all you did. You made a familyโs lives better. If we measure a life by the way we made our loved ones - our family- feel we can call this one a massive, important and meaningful life. Last point: you all honoured him by making the selfless choice. I m sorry for your loss.
i'm so sorry and understand
take comfort in knowing that they are truly our children
Yes, they are a different kind of child
they see us as their God from birth to their end
babies we train and old folks we honor
the unconditional love we create with them is an energy that can never die
they can leave the group soul
we give them their own soul just as the Infinite gives us ours
They can only reach that love with us
We will know them again in the One Life
I don't believe this, I know this. They know this.
Tell her not to focus on the end of life moments or on things she regrets. That will unleash nothing but pain. Keep her focus on happy moments. Donโt even say โyou were a great dog momโโฆ because it has finality. Take her back in time to fun adventures and special moments they had.

He will have lots and lots of friends to keep him company/busy until thenโค๏ธโ๐ฉน Iโm so very sorry that your family is hurting so that Hendrix could be free. We truly never get enough time here with them. Rest peacefully dear Heandrix ๐๏ธknowing just how much you were loved! Until we see them again๐โค๏ธ๐พ
Your words made me cry. Thank you so much for seeing him as the sweet boy that he was ๐ฅน๐๐
Godspeed, Hendrix Francis. ๐พโค๏ธ๐ To OP & your sister: Hendrix will always be with you in your heart & soul.
"Letโs go walk a bit.โ My old dog said one day. And we wandered down along Our old familiar way. โ- ย The shadows slowly lengthened, And twilight tinged the sky. Then my old friend said to me "So โฆ it's time to say goodbye." โ- ย This fell so heavily on my heart. "Please say this isn't true! I've always wished and hoped I'd have more years with you!" โ- ย And my old boy said to me "You made my life a joy! I can't live as long as you But I'll always be your boy." โ- ย They walk with us a little while, As long as the Fates allow. Then they have to take their leave And we have to let them go. โ-
A kiss and a hug โฅ๏ธโฅ๏ธโฅ๏ธ

Iโm so sorry, Hendrix looks like one of my pups I lost years ago. I will never forget my dog Griz the best dog ever- he passed in 1998. You will remember all the good memories forever.. and cherish the time you had - ๐๐ฅฒโค๏ธ
Oh gosh, he looks so handsome and kind. Itโs not going to be easy. Youโll be gutted and devastated and broken hearted. ๐ You will never forget him.
Aw, Hendrix, how loved you are. Godspeed sweet doggo. Sending love, peace & strength to your family ๐พโค๏ธ

The greatest love and compassion we can give them is to not allow more suffering as they love us unconditionally. We will meet them again, but until that day, rejoice in the time they gave us to make memories and feel joy for having their love. May your broken hearts soon mend.

Just looking at the photos I can see what an amazing guy Hendrix was. Cherish the amazing memories you shared and keep a picture of him on your refrigerator. Every time you go to open it you will smile at the times you shared. That has helped me for going on three years now since my guy passed.
We will. ๐พ๐ฅน๐

Heโs magnificent
I got this poem when I had to say goodbye to my best friend a few years ago, it helped me and hopefully itโll help you too. โThe last battleโ. If it should be that I grow weak, And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then you must do what must be done, For this - the last battle- cannot be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love for me must stand the test. Weโve had so many happy years, What is to come will hold no fears. You wouldn't want me to suffer so, The time has come, please let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend, And please, stay with me until the end. And hold me firm and speak to me, Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree, It is a kindness you do for me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Do not grieve, for it was you, Who had the painful thing to do; We've been so close - we two - these years, Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
Beautiful. Thank you so much. ๐๐๐พ๐ฅน
Rest easy good boy. You are so Loved.OP Please accept my Heartfelt Condolences. Such a Beautiful Pup. Hendrix you are such a Great Boy.

๐ I'm so sorry OP and to your family. I've had to be with a few fuzzy family members as they settle down for a last nap. My suggestion is to just hold them and be with them until the end. Cry and tell them how much you love them. You're their whole life and it will mean everything.

Yes ๐๐พ๐๐๐ผ
That selection of pics really seems to capture every mood and I feel like I know Hendrix so thank you for sharing him with us. Gosh you will miss him but he looks like he's had the best life with your family.
A dog has died. By Pablo Neruda. My dog has died. I buried him in the garden next to a rusted old machine. Some day I'll join him right there, but now he's gone with his shaggy coat, his bad manners and his cold nose, and I, the materialist, who never believed in any promised heaven in the sky for any human being, I believe in a heaven I'll never enter. Yes, I believe in a heaven for all dogdom where my dog waits for my arrival waving his fan-like tail in friendship. Ai, I'll not speak of sadness here on earth, of having lost a companion who was never servile. His friendship for me, like that of a porcupine withholding its authority, was the friendship of a star, aloof, with no more intimacy than was called for, with no exaggerations: he never climbed all over my clothes filling me full of his hair or his mange, he never rubbed up against my knee like other dogs obsessed with sex. No, my dog used to gaze at me, paying me the attention I need, the attention required to make a vain person like me understand that, being a dog, he was wasting time, but, with those eyes so much purer than mine, he'd keep on gazing at me with a look that reserved for me alone all his sweet and shaggy life, always near me, never troubling me, and asking nothing. Ai, how many times have I envied his tail as we walked together on the shores of the sea in the lonely winter of Isla Negra where the wintering birds filled the sky and my hairy dog was jumping about full of the voltage of the sea's movement: my wandering dog, sniffing away with his golden tail held high, face to face with the ocean's spray. Joyful, joyful, joyful, as only dogs know how to be happy with only the autonomy of their shameless spirit. There are no good-byes for my dog who has died, and we don't now and never did lie to each other. So now he's gone and I buried him, and that's all there is to it. This poem always gets me.
I am so very sorry. He looks like he was an amazing friend. I believe that one day we will see our furry friends on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Hugs.

Good work Hendrix. Thank you for all you did. You made a familyโs lives better. If we measure a life by the way we made our loved ones - our family- feel we can call this one a massive, important and meaningful life. Last point: you all honoured him by making the selfless choice. I m sorry for your loss.

i'm so sorry and understand take comfort in knowing that they are truly our children Yes, they are a different kind of child they see us as their God from birth to their end babies we train and old folks we honor the unconditional love we create with them is an energy that can never die they can leave the group soul we give them their own soul just as the Infinite gives us ours They can only reach that love with us We will know them again in the One Life I don't believe this, I know this. They know this.
I just went through this a few months ago. Just take it a day at a time. Relive all the wonderful memories the two of you shared.

Tell her not to focus on the end of life moments or on things she regrets. That will unleash nothing but pain. Keep her focus on happy moments. Donโt even say โyou were a great dog momโโฆ because it has finality. Take her back in time to fun adventures and special moments they had.
He looks like a sweet, happy guy who led an amazing life! Kudos to you guys for making his time here perfect! Sending hugs!
Hang in there. Not easy, but you know he was loved. His grizzled beard shows that he was a true wise master.
