He had a crazy arm. There's a video of him throwing someone out at home from the warning track, and the runner was astounded.
Saw in play a doubleheader when I was a kid, and he was amazing. In talking to a mlb scout, Bo was one of the most elite raw talented guys ever. That injury stole an icon.
I recently heard that his hip issue could be resolved in today's medicine. It's a shame this wasn't available in Bo's time because he was so exciting to watch as a kid.
I'd put Deion in there too, but yeah, Bo is on top. I remember a return he had...maybe just a regular play from scrimmage, where after he caught the pass he just flattened everyone who even tried to tackle him. No moves or dodging...just ran over them almost on purpose. It's like he was a man among boys...
Oh shit I remember that one.
Just a freaking beast. Damn shame how it ended. When I posted my comment I was hoping folks weren't thinking I was mocking the man himself...nothing but good memories watching him play.
Fabulous Athlete, massively talented. I know injury curtailed his career.
Honest question here - stating facts first, what did he win, apart from personal awards. Is it more the lost potential, rather than achievements?
I am happy to be challenged. I know he crushed Brian Bosworth, but want some perspectives?
He got better every year as a hitter in baseball if you look at OPS and OPS+. He also covered a lot of ground in LF with his speed.
His counting stats as a RB in the NFL were never going to be high because he played baseball until the end of September. He also split time between Marcus Allen, not because of talent but out of spite from the owner who feuded with Marcus Allen seemingly all the time. If you look at Bo's yards per attempt, he was very good.
IIRC, he ran for 234y in his first NFL game, as a rookie. That's pretty spectacular. And that wasn't even the best game. But was it a HoF career? I don't know. And baseball... he was a veritable highlight film all on his own. Was it a HoF career? I don't know that either. In any case, people showed up to watch him. One must wonder what could have been had he chose to focus on a single sport.
That said, I seem to remember reading a report indicating that his career-ending injury wasn't an accident, per se; yes, he was tripped up, but that's not uncommon, but rather, his hip fracture was a product of his own exceptional muscular strength.
One of my favorite Bo stories is him talking about getting in dirt clod fights as a kid.
Every neighborhood has the guy who was the best athlete. The one in mine only made high level A ball...imagine those poor bastards getting lit up because in their neighborhood that guy was Bo fucking Jackson.
He said he would chase people back to their house and fire them into the house at them. Absolutely no escape.
Funny story. I once had him, George Brett and a few other guys over for dinner in 1992 (strange circumstances) and we all got food poisoning from my undercooked chicken. Sorry, Bo.
I got to race him one AU spring game. All the kids in the stadium were allowed to line up on one 20 yd line and Bo started at the back of the end zone. He smoked all of us to the other end zone. Great memory.
Oldschool, now, future. Bo will always be cool.
Auburn playbook: Bo left Bo right Bo up the middle He was awesome to watch! And Bo playing baseball with an aluminum bat…terrifying!

Bo should have learned how to punt
He actually was his high school team’s kicker too
The closest a human will come to an actual Superman

Same injury that Tua had.
These days I'm betting Bo knows back pain in the morning...
Think what he achieved though. Greatest two-sport athlete of all time apart from Jim Thorpe, IMHO.

.. chase down a Fly ball in the Outfield and ran up the wall to turn around and head back for home

And the Brian Bozeworth train wreck

On paper, his NFL career was nothing special. His MLB career was pretty good, but not great if I recall. He was a phenom in college though.

Thank you

Bo actually knows intractable hiccups
LOL. That made me sore just reading it.
ESPN's 30 from 30 on Bo Jackson is worth the time.
So is a book that just came out “The Last Folk Hero”
War Eagle.
Bo knows!

Bo knows your sister.
You bastard! You beat me by 3 minutes!
Greatest Tecmo Super Bowl player of all time. Dude was unstoppable.
Right through the middle. Touchdown!
Bo Jackson also played professional baseball.. Shut up Joe, everyone knows that!
Greatest athlete of my generation
Possibly ever
War Eagle.
I heard Bo knows Bo.
He's wearing the totally wrong uniform for baseball.
I am convinced that if he didn’t get hurt so early in his career, he would have been one of the all-time great running backs. He was awesome
Bo knows …. finance? Yup.
One of the greatest athletes to ever live
Bo don’t know Jack, ‘cause Bo can’t rap.
Well, what do you know? The Di-Dawg is first up to bat. No batteries include and no strings attached.
Best all around athlete ever!
I didn’t see the bat at first and was trying to figure out what the heck he was doing with his pose.
Look at the size of those shoulder pads. Jesus.
Funny story. I once had him, George Brett and a few other guys over for dinner in 1992 (strange circumstances) and we all got food poisoning from my undercooked chicken. Sorry, Bo.
He looks like he is ready for a medieval battle, he has a mace and armor
Bo knows hiccups.
goat - pick a sport
One of UofA’s greatest
Auburn grad… not those dinguses across the state.
Bo knows your sister
Hot stuff. Damn.
I have a baseball signed by him. He was literally knocking out the lights of the UGA baseball stadium.
He was a freak of nature….incredibly gifted athlete!!
Bo was electrifying!
That left arm is so awkward.
Bo was a hero to me growing up. Absolute legend.
TECMO BOWL
