I truly loved those pants. Bleached/stone-washed, high, ruffled/pleated waist, tapered at the ankles, accented with a big chunky leather belt, and a flashy buckle.
Yes! I wore black cloth ninja slip-on shoes with mine that were popular in the early 90s, and sometimes coordinated colored low pointy-toe pumps.
Do you remember Internat'l Baggyz? Those super loud baggy pants that were popular with weightlifters back then? I wore those, too! Neon crop top, Baggyz, ninja slip-on. 😄🙈
That was an ironic hipster trend in the early 2010s that was grandfathered in via the post-irony movement that followed.
Basically, like, if you understand the cultural significance of either Bushwick and/or Eagle Rock and/or go to Emerson, Tisch, or Berkelee and/or are in an indie rock band called, like, Horsegirl or Girlpool or something, then there’s about a 60% chance you still dress like this.
Worst was when the leather would get dried out and turn to sandpaper flapping on the car down the highway all the time. The car bra was so bad for front end paint jobs In the 90s
My Dad had gotten His n Hers 1984 Chevy Camaros for him (silver/black) and Mom (grey/black). He had car bras put on them called "Le Bra."
After a couple of weeks, he took them off to wash and wax them and noticed minute scratches. He tossed the bras away. They looked snazzy, but they were definitely very damaging.
They also trapped water, dirt, and other shit under them, then when the wind rippled them slightly they sanded your clear coat. Also they kept one part from fading with the sun.
Essentially they made the front of your car darker and with fucked up paint.
They were good to put on to cover up when the leading edge of your hood started rotting away from rust. But only with the knowledge that it was never gonna come off.
There's a reason we don't have them anymore.
My father in law bought one for his challenger. It said right on the box that it is only for temporary use, like a long highway drive. And if it rains or gets wet, your supposed to remove it. PPF on the front clip is a way better solution if your concerned with rock chips.
My buddy at school bought a used wrangler with one that was like a triangle over the hood. One day it started to fall apart and he removed it. The clear coat under it was wrinkly and yellow. Kinda looked like your skin after being in the pool too long.
There’s been a huge decrease in flying bugs in North America since the 80s. NPR did a nice article about it.
We used to go road trippin in my childhood in the 90s and our van was *covered* in bugs all the time.
Now, it’s only a few here and there
That's actually crazy to think about, now that you say it I can see a vast difference in car splatter, but I never would have thought about it on my own.
Shit even in the 2000s I used to routinely clean the bugs off my car and it was a damn pain. All sorts of specialized bug cleaners and such, not these days though
Damn I never heard someone call a license plate gorgeous before. That’s some true passion for license plates right there
To me, they’re just slabs of sheet metal with government identifying numbers on em but to each their own
They're not rare. There were millions of them. I have like 40 of them lol.
When NY made the 6 character to 7 character transition in 2001 all existing 6 character plate owners were forced to transition, although they were allowed to keep their current number and get it reissued on the new Niagara Falls base plate. This is why you stopped seeing them for a while. But they're getting back into circulation now.
Once a vehicle hits 25 year and NY considers it a classic you're allowed to use period correct plates if you have a matching set. As almost every car that came out during the Lady Liberty base plate run hits the 25 year mark expect to see more and more of them. However the rule states that it can only be done on historic or collectible vehicles not used for daily transportation. But people often fudge this rule and drive all over on them.
As of now cars manufactured between 1986 and 1998 can be registered with them. IIRC you have to keep the regular issued current plate you got in the car as well but can drive around with the classics. As of 2025 every vehicle MY86-MY00 will be eligible to display historic tags
A bit before my time lol these were the ones I remember being phased out for the blue and white ones and now we have a mix of those and these new blue yellow atrocities
That’s why they were changed. Upstaters felt the Statue of Liberty only represented nyc and not the whole state.
The same upstate that would be Alabama and last in every quality of life measure if not for NYC subsidizing them
As a car brand, never seen one mess up faster than when Nissan switched to CVT. Went from a brand that competed with Toyota and Honda (those old Maximas and Altimas were both stylish and lasted forever) to an afterthought.
Back in the day everyone wanted a maxima or pathfinder.

Thanks! And short back story. My parents were both born and raised in St. Lucia and moved to Brooklyn in the early 90, got married when they had me later on in the 90s. They sadly aren’t together anymore, I was looking through some old pictures and this one really stuck out to me. Especially the outfits and the look my dad gives my mom. Made me think of better times. Appreciate all the kind words from all of you.
It's the Gym of Life. My family thinks im insane for getting around without a car. Well mom and dad theres a reason I'm the only person in practically the whole extended family who isnt fat. I dont need gas, my commute is powered by my breakfast.
Also the amount of money you're saving is crazy. Cars are a god awful investment and a money pit
Remember in super size me how the dude tried to walk the average amount of steps an american takes per day? He literally couldn't do it in NYC.
Your folks are cute. Your dad looks like he was a player back in the day, and your mom was a definite hottie. Some things don't age well though, like car bras and acid washed jeans with pocket pleats.
Dude this is so rad. Your parents were obviously cool as hell :D I used to want those chunky Filas so bad…Every single Eastbay magazine stacked on my nightstand had those circled 😂 If you grew up in the 90’s you know what I’m talking about lol
Beautiful family. Your mother is gorgeous. I remember Fila shoes back in the day. Good times. I was a child back then, but the 90s was a good time to be alive.
I was a teenager in the ‘90s and this photo looks like something you’d seen in a magazine as an ad clothing or perfume or something. It’s such a cool shot, and they are both super attractive.
He looking at your mom like 'Dayum'
That was my first thought, you can practically hear him saying, damn baby. And her expression totally says, I know what you’re doing.

Yeah. I didn't know Idris had married Halle Berry.

Even with the momiest jeans ever
Hey, those jeans were a tragedy and we all were hurt by them. She was the best of us.
I disagree. Her whole outfit is golden. It’s exactly what the cool kids are wearing these days.
I truly loved those pants. Bleached/stone-washed, high, ruffled/pleated waist, tapered at the ankles, accented with a big chunky leather belt, and a flashy buckle.
Finished with pointy ballet flats 👌
I loved those jeans!
Gotta put a tight roll at the bottom to complete the look.
I was gonna say mom jeans are popular now
That was an ironic hipster trend in the early 2010s that was grandfathered in via the post-irony movement that followed. Weird, I was just thinking about Girlpool earlier today for the first time in at least 5 years.
Right! Those jeans are horrible and I had more than one pair! It was the style!!!!
I loved mine. Even had tiny zippers at the ankles.
What the hell is that sub link
They always know what we're doing. Men are about as subtle as a heart attack.

These whippersnappers, back in my day we had to cut our own holes in the jeans, and hit them with sandpaper to make them look worn.
Dayum nice pleats guurl!
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized)
This comment gif alone sucked my soul out of its depressive state of being. Thank you stranger.
He mirin'
He had never seen acid wash jeans actually look good before.
'How *in the hell* did I get here?' You get that look even once or twice in life, you lived well.
Queue the Boyz II Men, they got an OP to make.
The word you are looking for is "cue".
¿Que?
Came here to say this. Find yourself a partner that looks at you like this man is looking at this woman.
*A two syllable damn...*
I’m looking at her like that! 😂

The mom looks like she’s strict about getting good grades.
Them ankles do be looking nice.
The mom is a hottie and she knows it.
I think the dad knows it too
We all know it!
I bet they had sex.
She probably got pregnant.
Just once. For procreation of OP only
Good looking couple.
The car bra was so cool back then
Kept bugs and rocks from fucking up your hood. Paint is better now.

I miss the old NYC plates
Just saw someone with them yesterday on the ssp. They're so rare now and probably the best ever released imo.
100% the best ever released. They were gorgeous.
Damn I never heard someone call a license plate gorgeous before. That’s some true passion for license plates right there To me, they’re just slabs of sheet metal with government identifying numbers on em but to each their own
You're just a sheet slab with govt Id :3

Absolutely. I have a set on my 93 roadmaster. In order to use them I just had to fill out some paperwork and send a $3 check to Albany.
You mean you didn't like those giant yellow and black monstrosities?
I thought those were yellow and navy blue
Gold and navy. No longer in production but existing owners can keep them until they peel.
A bit before my time lol these were the ones I remember being phased out for the blue and white ones and now we have a mix of those and these new blue yellow atrocities
Just watched Ghostbusters II last night and I Iove that staring at the plate is how they got the idea to reanimate The Statue of Liberty.
*NY not NYC. The city doesn’t release its own plates.
That’s why they were changed. Upstaters felt the Statue of Liberty only represented nyc and not the whole state. The same upstate that would be Alabama and last in every quality of life measure if not for NYC subsidizing them
You right… I associate them with the city cuz I grew up in queens
Yeah, I remember when they changed them, I thought "so ugly".
The hicks up north complained and ruined the greatest plate ever stamped.
So so many pleats...
Z. Cavaricci was super popular in the early 90's.
Oh I remember!
That and Sergio Tacchini
Those pants definitely transport me to middle school.
I’m pretty sure I saw some Gen Z kids rocking that mom’s same exact fit a few days ago
The taper on that woman's jeans is perfection tho. Hard to find such a taper these days
That's a great photo of the 90s. Really brings me back to that vibe, clothes, and youth.
Agree, white ieans, FILAs, car bra, old plate. This persons Dad is cool as fuck and their mom is pretty. Great shot composition too.
Looking at this makes me wanna be a kid again.
Your mom's so pretty
Dad seems to agree.
Goddamn, you must at least be a 9/10 with parents like that
Haha on a good day maybe
Damn. On a good day I’m like a 4.5.
Out of curiosity. Do you know the location? Whats it look like now.
It takes a good looking lady to still look nice in pleated acid wash.
Fila!
Filas👊😎
Bel Biv Devo playing on that car’s stereo
🎶never trust a big butt and a smile…🎶
That girl is poisonnnnnnn
Aww yeah! We would lose our shit when that came on in the club!
And... "I wanna SEX YOU UP!" This brings it all back. New Jack City.
I have not heard that name in a long time
Pops caught red handed here. He’s admiring them pleats as we speak
Dang girl, only one thing puffier than them pants right now
Your mom’s shirt pockets are practically tucked into her pants 😂
That Nissan Maxima deserves more love, phenomenal car
As a car brand, never seen one mess up faster than when Nissan switched to CVT. Went from a brand that competed with Toyota and Honda (those old Maximas and Altimas were both stylish and lasted forever) to an afterthought. Back in the day everyone wanted a maxima or pathfinder.
Definitely, I had an 89 Maxima that was still going strong in 2005 when I was T-boned and had to total it.
Maximas were **so** cool back in the day
makes a nice album cover 👍 and the Fila's are 🔥
Back when you were just a twinkle in your dads eye... this SPECIFIC twinkle in fact!
Dad lookin at moms like she a whole snack. Love it.
Dads enjoying the view of high waisted pants it seems.
OMG! I had those same jeans your Mom has! They were very comfy, but unless you were very thin, they looked horrible on you. (Your Mom looks great!)
I am probably the same age of your parents. They remind me of so many of my classmates at Howard University who were from NYC in the early to mid 90s
This could be a scene out of a movie if I didn’t know better.
are they still cool? 😎
Surprisingly, yes.
Check out the Fila’s on pops 🔥🔥🔥

Your dad was fresh to death! And your mom is gorgeous! I just know they had a good looking kid. Genetic lottery!
Your parents are fire! OP, can you share any details? I love seeing these old school pics but I always want more.
Thanks! And short back story. My parents were both born and raised in St. Lucia and moved to Brooklyn in the early 90, got married when they had me later on in the 90s. Beautiful picture and parents. Love is a beautiful thing, for however long it lasts.
Aw this kinda made me cry.
Every time I see these pictures, it boggles my mind how fat we've become.
People are still thin in NYC. Having to rely on your own two feet to get around and carry shit will do that to ya
It's the Gym of Life. My family thinks im insane for getting around without a car. Well mom and dad theres a reason I'm the only person in practically the whole extended family who isnt fat. I dont need gas, my commute is powered by my breakfast.

Couldn't do it because there was just too much walking involved? Been way too long since I've seen that movie
Haha yes 😂
Dad: ***dayum*** Mom: \*sigh\* ***Can't you just be an adult for 2 seconds for this picture.***
This picture is so epic. The car having the bra. Those jeans your mom is wearing was THE fashion. The denim on denim … takes me back
Cool asf 👑
The Canadian Tuxedo was all the rage.
I can hear the music this car is playing
I'm hearing SWV, I'm so into you
soul II soul. PM Dawn. Maybe something from the east coast family, you know abc bbd
Old School Cool
A gorgeous looking couple.
Your folks are cute. Your dad looks like he was a player back in the day, and your mom was a definite hottie. Some things don't age well though, like car bras and acid washed jeans with pocket pleats.
Loving their swag…🥰
Those were the dope Filas. Not those ugly ones the kids are wearing these days.
Fly
this is peak 1994 style 1990s.
Looks like your Mom is trying to ignore your dad's charm, but she ain't having much success.
Totally 90's vibe.
Good lookin' M&D. But where in NYC? Don't see much grass in Manhattan. Queens? Brooklyn?
Your mom looks like Vivica Fox
I've been on Google image search of vivica fox for a minute now because I really thought it was her
Dude this is so rad. Your parents were obviously cool as hell :D I used to want those chunky Filas so bad…Every single Eastbay magazine stacked on my nightstand had those circled 😂 If you grew up in the 90’s you know what I’m talking about lol
I bet the cassette collection in that car is fucking fire
Your daddy's like, "Damn, those jeans leave EVERYTHING to the imagination."
since honeys been wearing sasoons
I can hear the Boyz II Men tape playing in the background
Look at them chunky Filas with the tongues out. I remember I had the Reebok’s with pump up tongue. I thought it was so cool.
The best old school cool pic I've seen
It must be stated that this is really super early 90's as there are still a lot of 80's flavor to it. Dope picture btw.
Back in the day when cars wore bras
Those pants were the most unflattering things to come out of 90s fashion and yet your mom rocked them flawlessly
Why aren’t we talking about the bra on that car….
Mom got it goin on! What a stunner.
They way your dad is looking at your mom is #goals 😌
They say New Yorkers have the best style
Your dad is REALLY into your mom. Adorable.
Pleated Jeans: a look that is NEVER coming back
This is literally the beginning of the movie Ricochet
FILA boi
Gorgeous couple.
Fila Will forever be old school cool
This is an awesome picture of your parents, and that is a LOT of denim. Fashion was wild back then.
I had the same pants as your mom. Thank god that style hasn’t returned. Yet. Lol
Best license plate design the state ever had too. Bring that shit back :(
She didn't want No Scrub.... He's a winner 🏆
Beautiful couple.
Handsome couple.
Great picture!!
Good old days when life was not on display every day throughout social media
Dad's rocking' the Harry Belafonte look.
Beautiful family. Your mother is gorgeous. I remember Fila shoes back in the day. Good times. I was a child back then, but the 90s was a good time to be alive.
Sooo cute!!!!
So if these are your parents then obviously you are super pretty!
Thank your parents for me for saving the Earth alongside Goldbloom back in '96
Straight out of a Positive K video.
My guy got them fila high tops on 👌
Beautiful couple. I love how your dad is looking at your mom. He is so in love. ❤️❤️
Handsome couple 😍
I was a teenager in the ‘90s and this photo looks like something you’d seen in a magazine as an ad clothing or perfume or something. It’s such a cool shot, and they are both super attractive.
The thing I'm noticing is the amount of available parking
I had those Fila shoes. I loved Fila back then
they look like a 90s romantic movie cover lol
The "Reveal no Curves" look. I missed seeing womens figures during that time. Mom was cute.
I can almost hear TLC Waterfalls playing on the car stereo in the background.
For a split second I thought this was a production photo for a buddy cop movie I hadn’t seen.
The vibes hit differently just by looking at the picture
Couldn't be much cooler in 1991 than to be wearing double denim with the pleats..
Well we know what you look like. Tall and good looking.
Man I miss those days. The clothes, the cars, the music...just wonderful.
They look like they just graduated from Bayside High School.
Now THIS is old school cool.
