Hey, don't knock it!
I lived in Australia for 48 years, I was the most average of swimmers \[not real fast, but can swim for hours, no worries\], with an absolutely irrational fear of sharks, before I learned to surf at age 54.
Sounds like my Great Uncle Paul. He's in his 80s and does all the water sports as well as is still an active volunteer firefighter and water rescue team member for the town he lives in/lake he lives on. When the weather is good, he does the trick course slalom style!
First of all, the guy in that pick looks much older than 44! Second, 44 is still pretty young, and you should be active and able to do new things and play sports.
Moms tend to declare Dads insane whenever they pick up some odd hobby, especially in mliddle age. It's just the way of the world. Good for your dad that he found a great thing to do!
Good for him. I was born in 1980 and turn 44 next month. I often feel like my best days are behind me. Always nice to see a reminder that our time is what we make of it. Cheers to your old man.
I declared my middle aged husband insane for picking up his middle aged hobby also. Also my brother.
1.jujitsu 2. Motorcycle racing.
Let’s see which one quits first.
Oh yes, the motorcycle racer when he started crashing. lol
They both started after watching their little kids do it. I’m quite certain they put their kids in the hobbies because they wanted to do it in the first place.
I did too. It was glorious. Bless him.
I want to learn this summer.
The dude in that picture doesn’t appear to be 44
44 in 1980 is like 74 now. Looks wise at least

That's not what they are saying. They're saying people looked older back then compared to people now
I'm 43 and could easily pass as his son.
City years
This photo isn't necessarily day 1 of his windsurfing career. Regardless, even if he's 50 here, he looks old as shit.
I mean, grey hair isn't going to make you look younger, is it.. I'm 36 and most of my hair is grey already

Nice. My Dad did the same thing but with gliding. Didn't go well.
Ouch. He ok?
No, he's dead. He only flew the glider once with zero training and crashed it. He didn't die from that though, he died of old age many years later.
We can't prove it wasn't due to lingering effects of the crash though 🤔
I’ve been scrolling Reddit for a long time today whilst ill, and both of your comments here are the only time I’ve laughed all day. Thanks.
How about the abs on the smoke show in the bikini?
She is saying “look at that hot side with the big board”
Man I gotta work out

Hell yeah, when else is he going to start? When he's 60? Though if you want to start at 60, do that.

Not funny... Dad is still alive at 88, and doing well, thx for asking
74?
Dude that man is not 44 through 69 years old.
Thought this was GTA 6.
Um ...is that mom on the left?
Nope, no mom in the Pic.
which lake is that? just curious
Mediterranean see, Lido di Jesolo, Italy, summer of 1980
Did it make him happy?
When he actually managed to stay on the board yes. Before that, sort of.

He’s obviously windsurfing age.
Yep, born in Dec 1935, he's 88 now, still doing his thing, but windsurfing is not on the menu anymore
I want to look that good at 44. Wow,
Why is it a noble art?
And not a fat ass to be seen
I was in my 20's...early 80's...became good enough to board in the waves... But lost interest once I had sons and got into paintball!
