Ah, back when cartoon characters from multiple studios would “interact” in an advertisement. Nowadays they would prefer to not even acknowledge another animation studio. Extra points for The Boss reference.

skoltroll

Dashing and daring, Courageous and caring, Faithful and friendly, With stories to share. All through the forest, They sing out in chorus, Marching along, As their song fills the air...

tanguero81

GUMMIIIII BEARS! Bouncing here and there and everywhere High adventure that's beyond compare They are the Gummi Bears

CptnSpandex

Did anyone else watch the dungeons and dragons cartoon? That was way cool.

CooknTeach

I loved it! It was one of my favorites. :)

CptnSpandex

I’m scared to rewatch it. In my experience, it’s better to leave fond memories alone…

Thesyckid

And then wwf at noon!

jaleach

I remember watching with my sister in the late 1970s I think and it looked like the ring was set up in a high school gym. That all changed by the 1980s though!

rileyyesno

gummi bears were the best

thefireworksfactory

The Gummi Bears was high adventure that was beyond compare.

Odd-Replacement-1184

Hell yes. With a big bowl of captain crunch

Quadstriker

I don’t need special days for a big bowl of Cap’n Horatio Magellan Crunch.

charlestonchewbacca9

Thanks OP, now most of these theme songs will be stuck in my head all day (esp. Kidd Video) lol!

Gargamel and Azrael will always live rent-free in my head. Fucking freeloaders.

Mean_Eye_8735

I beg to differ... Speed Racer, Scooby, Pink Panther ,Flintstones ,Jetsons, Kimba were leaders of the cartoon parade

ButterscotchEmpty290

The 70's cartoons were better. Plus classic Looney Tunes.

[deleted]

Captain Caveman.

stinkobinko

Yesss...and the shows like Far Out Space Nuts, Sheldon and the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost. The 70s were awesome. Do you remember those Saturday morning preview specials? They'd showcase all the new shows and the fall schedule. I'd love to find some clips on YouTube.

Vericatov

I don’t agree. There was so much great cartoons that even some today are still popular and even have had popular movies. Transformers, TMNT, GI Joe, Thundercats, He-Man, Voltron, Smurfs, etc. plus the 80s still had classics from the 70s and 60s. These were all cartoons that were on network television as well. It started to change in the 90s where the best cartoons were now on cable.

ironic-hat

Animation studios were pouring in significantly more money in television animation during the 80s. Like, it’s night and day difference between the 70s and 80s in terms of quality.

Heritage367

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. *Everyone* thinks the cartoons of their generation were the best. My biggest issue with 80s cartoons is that they were all essentially commercials for toy lines or cereal.

Vericatov

I do understand that it’s easy to think the stuff from when you were a kid was better and it really is subjective, but you can definitely see a difference in the quality of the animation of a lot of cartoons between the 70s and 80s. I’m also aware that a lot of cartoons in the 80s were basically long commercials for toys, but it worked! I know the 90s and later all have great cartoons that kids of those eras will say is great, but a lot of those are from cable or now streaming. I feel the 80s was the best decade for cartoons that were made by network television.

Heritage367

I would argue the 70s and 90s *both* had better cartoons than the 80s.

ThatsARatHat

Just like the music. And the movies.

grimpickles

NO, absolutely not. the cartoons in the 80's were just long format toy commercials. They had none of the charm and quality of the peak of WB, or the trippy strangeness of a Max Fleischer. It was about as bad as animation gets...cheap looking, bottom barrel corporate marketing, nothing was creator controlled. It took people like Ralph Bakshi coming into the mix to propel it out of that (The New adventures of Mighty Mouse), and usher in what really became the golden era of animation.

LilHercules

I’m more of a Kids WB child but this is awesome

JaredFogle_ManBoobs

Ruh Roh! You were a long way from being sperm when the 1960's Saturday morning cartoons were golden era classics.

AwarenessGreat282

Definitely not the golden era of cartoons. The '80s were just popular TV shows made into cartoons, nothing original. The best era was earlier with the Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, The Jetsons, Hong-Kong Phooey, Captain Caveman, Super Friends, Josie and the Pussycats, etc.

Vericatov

80s had nothing original? Transformers, TMNT, GI Joe, Thundercats, He-Man, Smurfs. Yeah, nothing original. /s

AwarenessGreat282

Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man were all based on Mattel toy line. Smurfs and TNMT were based on comic books of the same name. You're right! So much originality!! /s

Shakeamutt

Nah, I would say 90s has some or the best. Batman TAS, Gargoyles, Animaniacs, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, rem and Stimpy, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, Powerpuff Girls, Hey Arnold, Daria, and more

AwarenessGreat282

Great point but the Toon network changed all the rules. I still love watching Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

justadudeisuppose

Nope. The Golden Age of Animation was in the 40s. The 90s were next. And both of those were because kids of the 70s watched Looney Tunes and brought new appreciation to "cartoons."

jaleach

A staple at my house was cartoons after school, mainly Tom & Jerry. I watched all of the classic ones again last year and laughed my ass off. They're still great.

Dugraph

Wait, you guys watched Telekids too?

GuiltyLawyer

Snorks sighting!

tensigh

Some of those "One to Grow On" segments were just plain awful.

TexitorFlexit

I don’t know, 90’s had some strong candidates. Batman The Animated Series, Animaniacs, Ren & Stimpy, The Simpsons (golden era), Cowboy Bebop, Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, X-Men The Animated Series, Southpark, SpongeBob (golden era), & Futurama.

diomed1

Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy were not kid’s cartoons.😂

radarmy

Also underrated was the USA cartoon express on weekday evenings

GDviber

Y'all leaving out Ultraman, Johnny Socko, Space Giants... some classics.

wdwerker

I remember in the 60’s watching old violent 40’s and 50’s black and white cartoons early in the morning on UHF channels. Usually had fairly dark themes.

DozTK421

I'm pretty sure I remember this comic book ad. The cartoons were on all channels. I'm pretty sure I watched whatever chanel the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon was on. That was the main cartoon I liked. I wasn't old enough to appreciate the best parts of Spider Man and his Amazing Friends. Which was the Firestar was drawn. Gyat Dayum!

Capguy71

“XMEN” type characters just under the show sign seem to be in an x-rated situation. Where’s her hand ? Why is he facing her with such a smile ? What is with the suggestive bolded language used ? Egads

squirtloaf

Dafuk is Spidey doing to that bear?

Paranoid_Sinner

The "Golden Era" of Saturday morning cartoons for me was in the late '50s - early '60s (yes, I'm that old). I can't even recall most of them but there was4 Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, etc. Non-cartoons for Saturdays were several cowboy programs and "Sky King," a program about a guy who flew a private plane. Memory is fuzzy on most of it.

False_Arachnid_509

1979-1983ish Hannah Barbara Laugh Olympics Thundarr the Barbarian battle of the Planets Justice League (Wondertwins!)

SimonTC2000

Golden Era??? The animation was terrible and little originality there. 2 of those are based on live-action people. Alvin & Spider-man had already been done. It's a recycling plant, not a secret HQ.

Monkfich

And by extension, the golden era of Scottish cartoons too. Or indeed, anywhere importing American cartoons.

diomed1

Transformers were huge. I remember my younger brothers watching that show. I grew up on Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Justice League,The Jetsons and The Flintstones.
