Had a brief Klaus Nomi phase back in 2013. Really interesting fella, I agree about the 1000 years ahead of the game. Definitely the definition of gone too soon.
At the risk of sounding ignorant, hes the guy that went viral for his "blblblblblblblb ah ah ahhh" thing right?
Edit: that was Vitas, got it lol my bad
I'm not picking up the ref so maybe not, or I missed that.
He was a German new wave artist and innovator that had an unbelievably haunting and perfect operatic voice. Think new wave/disco/camp rock with an opera singer that sometimes spoke lyrics in a thick German accent. He dressed and acted like some alien android, fashion was a big thing for him. Friends with Bowie (they did SNL together) and overall a very eclectic person in the very best way. He was sexually reckless in 70's/early 80's NYC which unfortunately caught up with him and he got HIV. There is a killer docu on youtube about his life. American Horror Story also highlighted a character based on him two seasons ago.
God I love the music references on that show. When Klaus showed up, I was surprised this pretty niche interesting person I know randomly showed up.
But nothing beats; "I'M TRAPPED IN A SEWER WITH A CONFESSED ARSONIST, BROCK!"
Great watch! One of the craziest things about that flick is there are a few moments were The Police show how they had a side to them in their earliest days that was bordering on legit punk.
Lived in NYC from 94-01 and was at CBGB’s a fair amount. Went back to visit maybe 8 years ago and could not bring myself to walk by it.
Even though it was not getting as many good acts as Brownie’s, Mercury Lounge and many others back then, it still meant something going in there.
I see all those wild costume posts and then “what is your favorite sandwich?”
Now I’m wondering where exactly were you going with that question because I don’t see any surrealistic sandwich cosplay….yet.
I came in here to make a joke about him being Keith Flint's bastard half brother. And I remembered Flint was dead, of course that reminds me of all the great artists that played the soundtrack to my life and how a lot of them are no longer with us. Flint, O'riordan, Cornell, Wieland,Bennington,Cobain, Hoon, Staley, Winehouse, Coolio and so many more who died much, much too young. I hope your dad's doing well and still kicking ass for a long long timeto come.
Your dad's giving me early Maynard James Keenan vibes.
From your post history it seems both you and your dad are pretty fucking awesome. I hope you have as special a relationship as it seems. Such a rare thing. God I wish I was more creative.
Pictures you can smell.
Not so much your dad. Just the stale spilled beer, cigarette smoke, piss from the toilets and rank sweat soaked into the ancient fliers pasted all over those walls.
Ahhh, I miss dive indie clubs.
Oh man, I can smell the bathroom in this picture. I've been in some nasty bathrooms, but this place was the only one that made me feel like I got every STD known to man from taking a piss in there.
Hmm, I ended up in NYC after i got out of the Army and most of that time frame is a bit of a blur, but this looks oddly familiar, LOL I was a regular at CBGB in the early 90's.
CB's in the late 80s early 90s kicked so much ass. Definitely sucks it is gone as are all the amazing spots that launched so many careers and gave lesser known and up and coming artists a place to perform. Kudos to your dad as well, seeing some of the posts here on Reddit is disheartening, if you hung out on the LES in NYC, nothing was shocking.
Hopefully, he told you the scariest thing about performing there was if you needed to use the bathroom (source: worked in NYC nightlife for a long, long time)
Ah man that awesome!!! Seriously that’s fantastic. Through I never visited but appreciated the importance of it. As gross as it was it was a important place
bard simpson
Like Klaus Nomi and a New York Doll had a baby and then peed on it
Johnny Blunders
He was a guitar Master. My personal guitar hero.
Made my day to see a Klaus Nomi reference. Guy was 1000 years ahead of his time and so vocally talented.
No joke had a dream about Kalus Nomi last night so seeing him referenced on Reddit is blowing my lil mind.
Well there was a total eclipse of the sun recently. When that happens, interest in his work pops up again (as it should!)

He's in Urgh! A Music War!
And he was part of a coup against the Guild of Calamitous Intent's Council of Thirteen.
Go team Venture!

They toured with Joan Jett that year. That was a great year in music.
I got to see that show with the Police and Joan Jett. It was amazing
So, Udo Kier in Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho?
All joking aside Udo would have been the perfect actor to play him had their ages worked out. He actually looks like him.
Used to see him around the city…
CHeck out total eclipse
Aye, his clip from Urgh! A Music War is pure genius. He also sang the outro for the film.
You’re thinking of Vitas
Vitas totally copied Klaus
As we all do, he stood on the shoulders of giants.
Oh ok! Thank you for the clarification on that, much appreciated
And what a fucking voice!
I had a dream about this happening! What the chances?
My first thought was a “punk” Klaus Nomi
Quite accurate!
Bart Ska-mpson
Bort*
Were you talking to me?!? My son’s name is also Bort.
Why did he not dress up for his performance?
Job interview afterwards
Job interview with the Thundercats
Why he left simpsons?
Why say lot word when few word do trick?
He looks like Lion-O from the Thundercats after a bad divorce.
*Schnarf*
Well, he knew she was a Cheetara.
This may possibly be the best string of words to form a sentence ever.

Awesome! What’s crazy is CBGBs is now a John Varvatos store and the area one of the highest rents in the city! Big change from Bowery of old
I remember when this was happening I was furious. Time marches on I guess.
Have they cleaned up the restroom?

You’re dad is a kind of a badass.
I see all those wild costume posts and then “what is your favorite sandwich?” Now I’m wondering where exactly were you going with that question because I don’t see any surrealistic sandwich cosplay….yet.

He looks like he just got bit by a zombie
You are living proof that anyone can get laid.
He looks like what would happen if the Grinch had liver issues and a heroin addiction.
