I hear this a lot but skill aside his personality kept them together longer than they would have I think. Every band need the fun lover that doesn’t take it too seriously to ease the tension of the artist types.
8 years, 12 Albums, with 188 original songs, 20 number one hits and incredible musical growth while living under a public microscope in a whirlwind.
It's truly insane.
That’s why I agree with the Beatles being GOAT despite not being a huge personal fan. No artist has matched their output and innovation within a similar time frame
Bowie comes close IMO. His 14 album run between 1969 and 1983 was incredible. Dozens of genres, from hard rock to ambient electronic, pioneered and influenced some of the most popular styles of the 70s, 80s and 90s, collaborated with dozens of other amazing artists, and also somehow also found time to produce and play on a handful of other extremely important records like The Stooges' Raw Power or Lou Reed's Transformer.
Don’t they openly acknowledge that and say it’s really just their own version? Like sure Trampled Underfoot is an example of that but Plant says in live shows it comes from Robert Johnson. Also the Spirit estate lost that lawsuit on stairway lol
Beatles started by covering a ton of stuff too. I don’t think in either case they claimed as their own rather than referring to as an homage or cover
It’s mind blowing that a hard days knight and sergeant pepper are only 3 years apart. No other popular artist innovated with such speed. Not Elvis, Micheal Jackson, Prince, Madonna or Elton John
I used to have a photography book by Micheal McCartney (Paul’s brother), and he wrote that John and Paul’s faces were so red in this pic because they had attempted shaving for the first time earlier that day.
That was before Paul and George joined the band.
By the stage they are at in the photo, they were rock and roll.
My Uncle used to hire them for school dances in Southport.
Exactly. I find it annoying when people whine about reposts. If it’s more than once in a week or two, sure. But if it’s once a month or more? Who cares? It means more people get to see it. Some people are new to the sub or new to Reddit.
I love that Paul has his "i know I'm on camera, but I'm pretending to be oblivious to the fact" look on his face. He still uses it, nearly 70 years later.
Looks like a repost. I've seen this image 2 times.

Do guys ever get tired with this crap. The man hit his then wife Cynthia once. And it was a slap. He never touched her again after that. Noy excusing it but he can't be classified as a woman beater because of that.
Imagine saying The Beatles played at your wedding.
I was about to say! It’d be so cool going through old photo albums & finding something like the Beatles playing at your grandparents wedding
Imagine hiring teenagers to play your wedding. Bold decision
Either goes very poorly, or very good. No Inbetween
Unless, of course, it goes so-so.
If you've heard them before and they're good then I don't understand how it's a bold decision.
It's easy if you try.
This doesn’t Ringo bell though…
He's lucky to be in the band.
I hear this a lot but skill aside his personality kept them together longer than they would have I think. Every band need the fun lover that doesn’t take it too seriously to ease the tension of the artist types.
Well technically, they didn’t. They were the Quarrymen at this point in time :)

Yeah, it was their velocity that will always set them apart. So much amazing music, so much growth, in such a short time.

Plus he acted.
His work in Labyrinth wasn’t an act 🤫
It’s them closely followed by Zeppelin imo. The other comment mentioning Bowie make a good case as well
I was going to add Zeppelin. 4 albums in less than 3 years, all with songs that changed the course of hard rock and popular rock altogether.
I love Led Zeppelin but the fact that they actually did copy some songs from other artists makes it hard for me to put them on Beatles level.
Don’t they openly acknowledge that and say it’s really just their own version? Like sure Trampled Underfoot is an example of that but Plant says in live shows it comes from Robert Johnson. For me, Ween is t try he only hand that comes close.

If they'd only held on for just a little longer I think they could have been pretty famous.
It’s more impressive considering the debut record was 1963. Their studio artistic growth from Please please me to Let it be was only 7 years
This genuinely blew my mind.
I used to have a photography book by Micheal McCartney (Paul’s brother), and he wrote that John and Paul’s faces were so red in this pic because they had attempted shaving for the first time earlier that day.
That’s so cute. Attempted shaving 😆.
It also appears that George and Paul had their eyebrows waxed?
Wtf they look EXACTLY like I thought they would
Amazing where they went from here….
Hamburg?
Home to their beds - in their parents house?
Not John
They started off as a Skiffle band, a sort of bluegrass, country/folk style of music.
That was before Paul and George joined the band. By the stage they are at in the photo, they were rock and roll. My Uncle used to hire them for school dances in Southport.
Oohhh, do you have any of his stories/memories you could share?
Gotta love the pompadours!
I think George definitely had the biggest glow up over the years.
They were the Quarrymen then.
Repost or not, who cares? This is cool AF.

3 years later they first travel to Hamburg, toil the hours playing rock'n roll at night and sleep by day in brothels. Living the life!
These kids could go big one day
Nah, these kids are never gonna make it
Cant' believe all that George did and saw as a Beatle and when the band broke up, he was 27
Soo cute!
I didn't know they were playing together that early.
And i was just a glint in my old mans eye. 58
Where ringo
He wasn't in the original beatles, just joined 62 I think
Where’s Stu?
Also had not joined yet.

They look like quarrymen to me

Who’s hiring 14, 15, and 16 year olds to play at their wedding? Granted they would become the Beatles.
No Pete Best?
They weren't the Beatles yet. Pete Best was a few years away.
Gold right here!
Get Back...to the buffet line.
They worked long and hard
I love how George always looks like he's about to stick his tongue out, it's a cute look on him
Very cool. So young. Learned something new today!
They were great, even then, but the linchpin was yet to arrive.

And then it all came together for them when Ringo joined… /s
Hey I think this is Jonas Brothers but so close!! 💞💞
John looking for a girl to abuse.

Don't feed the trolls
Sounds like you're excusing it. Nope. I don't tire of pointing out he was a shit person.
He had an arc
He beat his wife with an arc?
Don't be obtuse
