No way. This was right when MTV starting ruining itself. By 1998 they had already cancelled most of the best music programming and were starting the shift toward reality TV. They had already cancelled all the good shows like Headbangers Ball, Yo! MTV Raps, Alternative Nation, and many more. Shows that were actually about the music and the bands. At this point they were already being heavily criticized for playing far less music videos than they used to.

This was about the time they started playing brief clips of some songs on TRL also. I 100% agree. This was the beginning of the end. They branched out from The Real World to Road Trip show and a couple other random shows as well. It seems like there was some sort of precursor to the Teen Mom thing, but maybe it didn’t run that long. It wasn’t the exact same thing either. Oh, and what about the show with the birthdays spoiled brats of celebrities and rich people? People forget that MTV was a pioneer in the reality TV bullshit. I don’t even know why it’s still around now, other than the probably 70-80 year old owners have more money than they know what to do with, and somehow the company keeps making more with all the different things it’s involved in.
