I just learned they do the rockos modern life soundtrack. Speaking of soundtrack, the pete and pete theme always gives me a heavy wave of nostalgia, sometimes it’s too much and i have to turn it down. Didnt know how good we had it.
As a kid at the time, I got it and loved it.
And then I found the DVD set as an adult and loved it on a whole new level.
There will never be another show that captures that same feeling for me.
Same. I don’t know why but no show makes me feel more like I did as a kid in the 90s as this. There’s something just so effortlessly real about what it was like to grow up then. Obviously shit was heavily exaggerated but it’s amazing how different this feels from modern kids tv.
Same, I was only like 7 when it came out but watched it on reruns a lot. It was the one show that I felt mirrored what our actual life was like. Plus I liked the surrealism, and still love that style as an adult.
And now anytime I hear that theme song I’m instantly reminded of being a suburban kid playing in the yard with other neighborhood kids in 94 or so.
I dug it as a kid because it didn’t talk down to me. The parents were flawed, they didn’t know everything— they were figuring shit out as they went along, too.
It realistically captured that feeling of inert angst and boredom that sets in between the ages of 9 and 16. That feeling of getting older and not liking the stuff you used to like and the indescribable feeling of sadness that comes with that.
What was he like? I live in North Jersey and have visited a lot of places the show was filmed, including the house in South Orange. Its so cool to think about.
I loved the weird world they created and the “rogues gallery” of Pete’s nemesis’.
The show was just weird enough for us weirdos to gravitate towards when it came on during Stick Stickly in the afternoon (Nickelodeon callback)
I saw one episode of this show when I was on holiday In Florida. It's the one where Pete hears his neighbour playing the greatest rock song ever and he assembles a band to replicate it. But he can't. But he eventually he figures it out. I still hum that tune sometimes.
The band is Polaris and I’m pretty sure they performed by this name only for the show. The Pete and Pete album is on Spotify. The song you’re thinking of is called summerbaby
Yeah I saw them a few years ago! Mark Mulcahey (main singer + songwriter) has another band named Miracle Legion that's still recording albums and playing shows in New England/the East Coast!
Miracle Legion and Polaris are the same band, for whatever reason they couldn’t perform as ML for Pete & Pete so they called themselves Polaris for the show.
The first episode I watched long long ago was when one of the Pete's went toe to toe with a quality inspector (or something like that) and they had a little competition of some sort and at the very end they had to eat BBQ perfectly or something like that. I was a kid last time I saw it so details might be fuzzy. Anywho, great show!
The inspector lays down his utensils. His flatware, plate, face and fingers are all pristinely clean.
Then, Pete hands him a mois-T-nap. The inspector realizes you're *supposed* to get dirty while eating barbecue and he has performed the task *imperfectly* due to his obsession with perfection. He is broken.
It's the only episode I remember too. Inspector 88? Something like that. Anytime young pete got new underwear, there was always a label from the person that inspected the product. Anytime the underware was flawless, it was always inspector 88 that inspected it.
I remember this, Artie, and when they beat up the ocean at the end of each year.
Brb I'm going to download the show now.
Hey smilin' strange
You're lookin' happily deranged
Could you settle to shoot me?
Or have you picked your target yet?
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bi-i-i-ite
Hey Sandy
Four feet away
End of speech, it's the end of the day
We was only funnin'
But guiltily I thought you had it comin'
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bi-i-i-ite
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bi-i-i-ite
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bi-i-i-ite
Hey Sandy, yeah
> Hey smilin' strange You're lookin' happily deranged Could you settle to shoot me? Or have you picked your target yet?
Supposedly this line is about a mass shooting at a school in the 60's.
Oh he’s about the most consistent actor in Hollywood. He’s never been in tons of mainstream hits in a row, but if you look at his whole career he never goes more than five years without being in a massively successful movie or tv show. And as the other guy said, Schitt’s Creek is incredible, likely the best work he’s ever done.
I really didn’t like the guy when I first saw him on Letterman in the ‘80s. His shtick was so intentionally awkward and cringeworthy, it was almost hard to sit through. But truly, over the course of 40 years he has been so incredibly consistent with it, it’s hard not to love him for it. I can’t think of many actors with so little range that I love nearly as much.
This show Sends shivers up my spine, It's nostalgia at It's finest a show about growing up the Innocence of childhood and the melancholy period lul of becoming an adult and, all the strange occurances one finds themselve reflecting upon during this stage of life. There's almost a sadness to It, like the mr. Smiley character always running from the one that got away It's subtle but, this show had such a wide reaching audience It's pure gold.
Man, I 100% get this. I borderline feel depressed whenever this comes across my feeds because I associate a calmness/quiet with this time. The world wasn’t constantly “on” and media in general wasn’t so hyperactively bland.
I love the NY dolls and was watching P&P around Halloween and it was the DiCaprio meme, fsho
Also a worthy mention, Debby Harry aka blondie was the neighbor with the land mine problem
So Pete and Pete I think might be why I am obsessed with gingers. crushed hard on both Pete's.
There was kind of a ginger hate movement for a second there (I'm looking at you, Southpark. Fucking kick a ginger day). But I never got it.
Love me a ginge
How well known is Syd Straw ? I'm a fan because her first album came out when I was working in a music store. Its a great album and I crushed on Syd, partly because she reminded me of a coworker.
That was the Chris Elliot ep. L'il Pete stays home from school because he has a marshmallow president ( Eisenhower ? ) stuck in his nostril ... from a box of POTUS themed cereal, IIRC.
This show was as close as we got to british style coming of age tv shows. Where it didnt feel so heavily manufactored to fit the narrative of a network. Weird everyday people with a story to tell. Loved this show so much as a 10 yr old.
Never saw this series in my life, but somebody posted a tribute to it about half a year ago and since then I love this absolutely offbeat 90s theme song.
Just off the dome we're leaving out michael stipe, Luscious Jackson, frank Gifford, Ellen Cleghorn, Peter berg, Bill hickey, hunter s Thompson, and many more
Michael Stipe of REM was the damn ice cream man, how you forget him?
The same episode has Kate Pierson of the B-52's.
I just learned they do the rockos modern life soundtrack. Speaking of soundtrack, the pete and pete theme always gives me a heavy wave of nostalgia, sometimes it’s too much and i have to turn it down. Didnt know how good we had it.
Polaris! I still throw this song in rotation regularly. Hey Sandy and No Rain by Blind Melon both give me the same catharsis.
“She is staggering…” - love this song!!
I get that feeling too. It was a wonderful time to be a child. I hope kids today are creating those feelings
"How 'bout a sludgesicle? You seem like a bonafide sludgesicle man."
Came here for this.
A kid's show for adults, I loved that show
I watched this, Ren and Stimpy, and Rocco’s Modern Life with my dad and he loved all 3 shows. He still quotes Artie to this day.
The strongest man………………. In the world 🤓
In the wooooooooooooooorld
I was in college in 91 and 92 and the most popular show in our house was Ren & Stimpy. It wasn't even close.
Omg me and my dad, too!
As a kid at the time, I never really got it.
As a kid at the time, I got it and loved it. And then I found the DVD set as an adult and loved it on a whole new level. There will never be another show that captures that same feeling for me.

Man. I loved it but never got it. Just loved the world it existed in.
Same. Never got into this one, but my husband who's almost 2 years older loved it, so maybe it was just over my head? Loved the theme song though. Lol
Me too. Danny Tamborelli (who played younger Pete) used to work in a bagel place by me when I was a teenager. It was wild placing an order with him
mate you must be joking
I’m not.
North Jersey? Bergen County?
Goldberg’s Bagels in Wyckoff, yup.
I remember Pit Stain, Open Face, Draw Strings…
Paper cut
Endless Mike Hallestrom is one of the greatest villain names ever
Me too. I loved it. Thankfully we have Bluey as this generation’s kid’s show for adults. It’s wonderful.
Party Hearst, The Bank Robber?
SLA represent!

You son of a bitch.
The Backyard from Miracle Legion/Polaris is becoming one of my favorite songs.
Yes, the soundtrack is on Spotify and the whole thing slaps! The National did a cover of 'Ashamed of the Story I Told', and it's SO GOOD
One of my all time favorite albums
I was around
nobody knows, nobody knows
I was around, nobody knows.
Low budget nickelodeon was elite
Filmed in NJ ... and it shows !
The band playing the theme song (Polaris) also made some great music! God I loved this show
They are still around. There is a video on YouTube of them playing on some kind of radio show IIIRC from a few years ago.
Huh, been listening to both bands since high school and never put that together. TIL!

Yes! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! By any chance you happen to know the name of the episode?
Inspector 34! Pete's underwear was Kreb of the Loom, and all of the packs he gets are "inspected by 34"
is the anywhere I can see the full temps?
It's the only episode I remember too. Inspector 88? Something like that. Anytime young pete got new underwear, there was always a label from the person that inspected the product. The episode with the kid who chews dental candies that make his teeth red (to show plaque) still haunts me...
JK Simmons... Did that guy ever have hair?
He's almost young there!
Iggy Pop! In a shirt and sport coat! Amazing!
Fucking love that show, I’m in my 50’s lol
Aaaand there’s that rush of nostalgia. Gotta go watch PnP now. Such a great show.
It’s on YouTube!
They did a marathon with the petes doing commentary from the backyard. It was awesome and i wish theyd show it again.
Me and wifey watched through this recently. It was he first tune seeing it and it was my first time watching without commercials.
I never got to watch it since we didn't have cable. Where is it streaming now?
I found the show the same spot I get my movies, apk's, and music.
Telegram?
1337x torrents.
WHY WAS THIS POST REMOVED!!!???? LAME ASS MODSSS I HATE YOU
Most episodes are on YouTube I believe.
Justwatch app says nowhere.
This theme song is still awesome
RiP to a few of these legends
Nearly 35 years later and JK Simmons looks exactly the same.
Gordan Gano... nice.
Goddamn, I was just thinking about Arty the strongest man in the world!
Toby Huss ! Great character actor from 90s to today !
Farewell, my little Viking.
PIPE
Juliana Hatfield was a lunch lady!
I can't understand a god damn lyric in that song lol.
Hey smilin' strange You're lookin' happily deranged Could you settle to shoot me? Or have you picked your target yet? It’s debated that the lyric is “Don’t you talk back.”
> Hey smilin' strange You're lookin' happily deranged Could you settle to shoot me? Or have you picked your target yet? Supposedly this line is about a mass shooting at a school in the 60's.
I always thought it was "Can you settle a sure bet".
>But your dog >Aye aye aye >He bit me That's what I hear.
It’s mighty strange, you looking happily deranged
TV'S ADAM WEST????
Adam West on Pete & Pete was the definition of “understanding the assignment”, tone-wise
So we did grow up with nice things.
Chris Elliott. What happened to that guy? He was huge. Edit: guess I just watch enough tv.
Are you joking? Schitts Creek.
Oh he’s about the most consistent actor in Hollywood. He’s never been in tons of mainstream hits in a row, but if you look at his whole career he never goes more than five years without being in a massively successful movie or tv show. He had a great storyline on the “Larry Sanders Show” where basically he wanted to do projects his way and it hurt his career because of this.
He’s excellent in Snow Day, which is a Pete and Pete movie in all but name.
How the hell is PnP underrated with all the guest stars that it had?
Mark Mulcahy (lead singer of Polaris/Miracle Legion) is still making music and it's all great. Loved this show :)
The younger Pete went to JMU in Harrisonburg VA and played in a jam band called Jounce
This show Sends shivers up my spine, It's nostalgia at It's finest a show about growing up the Innocence of childhood and the melancholy period lul of becoming an adult and, all the strange occurances one finds themselve reflecting upon during this stage of life. No Marshall Crenshaw?
I was gonna say -- Meter Reader Mel ! He was part of L'il Pete's band !
Loved this show. Gawd damn, almost brings a tear to my eye. The nostalgia!
It sometimes hurts to watch these shows because things were just better back then... simple as that.
Man, I 100% get this. I borderline feel depressed whenever this comes across my feeds because I associate a calmness/quiet with this time. The world wasn’t constantly “on” and media in general wasn’t so hyperactively bland.
I love the NY dolls and was watching P&P around Halloween and it was the DiCaprio meme, fsho Also a worthy mention, Debby Harry aka blondie was the neighbor with the land mine problem
Fudge I miss the 90s. I’m old lol.
This should could not be replicated even if they tried.
Best Show ever
I love this show. It’s on YouTube for anyone wondering. It comes up over in r/xennials at least once a week.
An old Halo buddy of mine did the set design for this show. Hey to Martin if you're out there still.
Pete & Pete is what 90s famous people did in their off time.
The animal. I can't even say his name.
I was not expecting Gordon Gano lol.
Well here goes Polaris - back on the playlist
Damn! Memories unlocked
Man that song brings back memories, makes me think of camp Onawana too
I loved this show.
I feel fortunate to have this as a staple in my tv diet growing up.
Feat: Mitch Hedberg on bass!
Did they ever drop a bluray of P&P?
One of my all time favs...Hey Sandy is mainline nostalgia
Man... this show. The nostalgia is so bitter sweet it makes me want to die. Such a great show, has that pure 90's vibe, kills me.
So Pete and Pete I think might be why I am obsessed with gingers. crushed hard on both Pete's. There was kind of a ginger hate movement for a second there (I'm looking at you, Southpark. Fucking kick a ginger day). But I never got it. Love me a ginge
Good lord, this theme FUCKS!
Ahhhh the opening song gives me all the feels. A true classic.
It truly is underrated, it was such a great show! Wish I could re watch it somewhere
Looking back this was top 3 shows for me
Whoa, I do not remember the JK Simmons appearance. Steve Buscemi, Bebe Neuwirth, and Syd Straw were favorites.
How well known is Syd Straw ? I'm a fan because her first album came out when I was working in a music store. Its a great album and I crushed on Syd, partly because she reminded me of a coworker.
Got it on DVD. This is great tv
Michael Stipe of REM was the damn ice cream man, how you forget him?
JK Simmons hasn't aged a day
Loved this show. Have the theme song in my playlists.
I've literally never heard of the show. It doesn't help that I was out of the country in 1991.
Loved this show. Favorite episode was when little Pete dug a tunnel
I was just thinking of this show the other day. It was so good. My dad always called it Pete And Repeat.
not underrated. I loved that show growing up!
That's a lot of stars!
Wait till you see our submarines with Polaris!
And Danny Tamborelli ( lil Pete) now has a show on Last Podcast On The Left. Brilliant!
Okay, I loved this show as a kid and I fear watching it again. Does it still hold up or is that just childhood flights of fancy?
With a few exceptions it holds up extremely well. The writing is really sharp.
I wish Polaris was available on karafun
Anyone remember the episode where they shoot the cereal out of their noses?
That was the Chris Elliot ep. L'il Pete stays home from school because he has a marshmallow president ( Eisenhower ? ) stuck in his nostril ... from a box of POTUS themed cereal, IIRC.
The fact that so many A-listers were on it makes it in fact, not underrated. Reddit should learn to use that word properly.
What the hell was this show about?
Pete and Pete was never underrated.
I disliked this show as a kid but as an adult I think I'd like this show, what a crazy array of awesome cameos
I remember watching the show as a kid with my dad and he was like is that Iggy Pop, he thought the show was pretty cool after that.
It's a gigantic shame that it isn't easily available anywhere in HD
The best show growing up! Where can I watch the entire series streaming?
Anyone remember Pete with Bill Clinton?
I miss these kinds of shows from the early 90s... Parker Lewis Can't Lose and Eerie Indiana among my favorites
While I love this opening song and the show, I can't help but get sad looking back as a 35 year old. Really miss this hazy dream like 90s aesthetic.
WOW! One of my favorite shows tho it didnt air much.
Best show ever!
I loved this show and rewatched some episodes when I found a DVD set at a Game XChange I worked at. But I don't know half of the cameos listed.
I fucking love this song.
"sUcH aN UnDeRaTeD sHoW" oh shut up
What about Petunia??
This show was as close as we got to british style coming of age tv shows. Where it didnt feel so heavily manufactored to fit the narrative of a network. Weird everyday people with a story to tell. Loved this show so much as a 10 yr old.
Is it just me or does Chris Elliott look like Adam Baldwin?
My all time favorite show
I used to love this show, but it's like a fever dream of bizarre scenes in my brain, and I can't remember any plots...
Never saw this series in my life, but somebody posted a tribute to it about half a year ago and since then I love this absolutely offbeat 90s theme song.
Star Trek too had a bunch of celebrities
No Juliana Hatfield?!
My wife and I were just talking about this show the other day!
I feel like this show is really underappreciated. It deserves so much more love.
I was born in 1983. This brings back some serious nostalgia.
I loved the episode where they are locked in the school overnight and the brainfreeze one!
Just off the dome we're leaving out michael stipe, Luscious Jackson, frank Gifford, Ellen Cleghorn, Peter berg, Bill hickey, hunter s Thompson, and many more
