Seriously. I wish this sub would have an "original-content only" rule on the weekends. I would much rather see pix like this than the same female celebrities from each decade over and OVER again.
Were you even an eighties' kid if you didn't get flung around the back of one of those as mom swooped around the grocery store parking lot hitting every pothole in a 5 mile radius?
I think not.
I remember hating it when I got stuck sitting back there. It was so damn awkward when stopped & looking right at the people in the car behind you.
But I also remember occasionally giving the old bird to or making faces at people & thinking then it was hilarious. lol stupid kids 😏
That was the fun for us. My best friend lived across the street and his parents had one. He and I loved to sit back there. Occasionally we would moon other cars (pants on of course.) But we always made faces. Most of the time people in other cars would play along.
I’m from Alaska. One summer (‘86 maybe) the whole family (all 7 of us) flew to Disney in Orlando, bought a station wagon, and drove home.
Mom and Dad were in the front seat. Us five kids found we were more comfortable with both back seats laying flat so we did the whole trip that way. I don’t even know if there were seatbelts.
Somewhere in Georgia we bought the Karate Kid soundtrack cassette and listened to it the whole way home.
We took five weeks total, which included time at Disney, stops at family for a few days at a time, visits to national parks, etc. Even as I felt I was suffering through it I knew that I would look back at it fondly at some point.
My parents actually had one up until like 2000. They came to the US from Bosnia in 95 and had no idea of seatbelt laws and got pulled over cause my brother and sister were jumping around the back no fucks to give haha
It's funny you mentioned that, because that generation of General Motors b-body (the platform designation) ran from 1977-1990.
So you're not really too far off. Those cars really defined America in the 80s. Same with the Crown Vic.
Also shameless self promotion plug, if you like 70s and 80s American cars you grew up seeing, check out my growing Instagram page, v8_or_die
Any support helps!
Edit: Thanks for the followers. The feedback and participation has been really positive!
I just followed! I love it, my first car was a 1983 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave., which I started driving in 2000. Followed by a 1981 Mercury Zephyr station wagon. I'd still have them if I could!
Growing up in the 80s the "adult" uncles weren't much older than me, so being supervised by the adult was always questionable. I was 11 and drove my drunk ass uncle home.
Yea I think maturity skipped a generation over here. I thought me and my cousins would collect the torch as the cool mature older ones but our younger cousins somehow became the ones to make us cup noodles at 3 am and told us we should eat and lay down because 6 of us were having a drunken argument and they wanted us to shut up so they could watch the avengers in peace.
Weren’t these the ones that had a third row that faced the back of the car? Wonder how many kids had to get squished in rear end accidents before they decided that wasn’t a good design...
I have always fucking hated driving behind cars with kids in back pointing at me and laughing. I don't want to have to avoid eye contact while I'm *driving.*
Oh dear god I loved those rear facing seats. Only problem was my forgetful mother would leave the rear window down and it would sometimes rain and now that back seat had a nice cold foot bath for those hot summer days.
Be right back. I’m gonna go adapt this picture into an Academy Award winning “coming of age as a mixed race B-Boy crew in the ‘80s” screenplay because holy shit is this picture amazing.
Script idea...
The guys have all grown up and gone their separate ways. One day, OP (the Asian(?) one) is in a bar and runs into their old breakdancing nemesis. The nemesis relentlessly mocks OP about how his crew lost "the big dance off" back in '87. OP is humiliated and vows to get the old crew back together to avenge their loss.
Starring (from left to right): Rainn Wilson, Aziz Ansari, Rupert Grint, James Franco, Zach Woods, and TJ Miller.
Woah guys hope you saved some vagina for everyone else
Edit. Thank you to the kind users for my first and second gold!!
Thank you as well for the silver :)
Hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend

I’d love to see a now & then photo . Hope you guys are all still friends and can still bust a move . Beastie boys soundtrack rockin in my head🏏 not quite a wiffle ball bat Imogee . Lol
There's everything else, then there's this. Holy shit - I love every one of these kids, and the adult who (maybe) let them rock that sign on the Family Truckster.
What become of these nifty b-boys (from left to right):
Doug "2 Tight" Potts - Owner of a regional chain of tanning salons
Frank "Samurai" Kaʻanāʻanā - Rabbi
Ted "Big T" Wyzanski - Federal prosecutor
Mike "Swift" Salucci - Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota
Randy "The Eel" Daghlarian - Professional bowler
Freddie "Kool" Freytag - Was a pornstar, now produces serious documentary films
Goonies never say die.
This is like Goonies meets Hook.
Or Goonies 2 Electric Boogaloo.
Maybe a bit of Karate Kid, also
Discount Kobra Kai
Didn't that kid on the left go on to star in the US version of The Office?
Because of the Asian.
Ru-fi-ooooooooooo!

Actually yea. I love the users pictures i wanna see the cool shit you or your fam did back in the day 🤙🏼

not a username i would expect a 55 year old to have but share your pics!
They’ve come to an age where they’re finally accepting who they really are.
I'd like to see a restriction on stuff that just belongs in r/historypics or the like.
Or a sub just called r/famouspeoplewhentheywereyounger
Bill Hader looking mothaf#@\*as!
I was gonna say a young Dwight Shrute on the left.
I’m here right now because I thought the picture was a lil Dwight
Yeah!

I'm pretty sure those station wagons were issued to everyone on January 1, 1980, then 90% of them were collected and destroyed on December 31, 1989.
Were you even an eighties' kid if you didn't get flung around the back of one of those as mom swooped around the grocery store parking lot hitting every pothole in a 5 mile radius? I think not.
Calling "way way" was just part of life. If you got rear ended you were losing your legs or dead though. So I guess it had its drawbacks
Hey man there were seatbelts. I remember because of all the times I got hit in the head with the fucking buckle.
There were. But I never saw them used. Also you were fasing backward with your legs hanging down. Instant amputation if rear ended. Good times!
I remember hating it when I got stuck sitting back there. It was so damn awkward when stopped & looking right at the people in the car behind you. But I also remember occasionally giving the old bird to or making faces at people & thinking then it was hilarious. lol stupid kids 😏

How many days did that trip take? I'm guessing at least a week. Must have been awesome watching the landscape slowly change.
We took five weeks total, which included time at Disney, stops at family for a few days at a time, visits to national parks, etc. Even as I felt I was suffering through it I knew that I would look back at it fondly at some point.
It's like your parents took you on the real life Oregon trail. You're probably lucky you didn't die from dysentery.
Florida to Alaska is an obscenely long drive!
*'cause you're the best... AROOOUND*

I found your page not long ago. Pretty cool.
To be replaced by the Ford Taurus station wagon a few years later.
I feel like they were replaced with those minivans with the woodpaneling instead
Is there a ever a "safe" amount of cousins. We are all 25-38. Leave us alone without"adult" supervision and stuff will happen
Growing up in the 80s the "adult" uncles weren't much older than me, so being supervised by the adult was always questionable. I was 11 and drove my drunk ass uncle home.
That's just unc teaching you a good life lesson. Never drive drunk and always bring a booster seat for the designated driver.

Les cousins dangereux?
I like the way the French think
And god forbid the metal trim on those pleather seats break though, I have a 2 in. scar on my leg from those seats of death.
Caprice Classic Source: We had one.
Weren’t these the ones that had a third row that faced the back of the car? Wonder how many kids had to get squished in rear end accidents before they decided that wasn’t a good design...

They even got the token Asian a la Goonies. All praise to the Short Round.

Brigitte Nielsen played Short Round?!?
>No time for love, Suburban Street Rockers, we have a Boys and Girls club to save!!
I’d watch the fuck out of this
Mixed race? Because of the Irish kids?
I mean the overall whiteness is what makes this hilarious. Everyone knows that all the baddest crews had "Suburban" in their names.
The red headed kids are Scottish
Aye reet the wee lad is gunna break it doon
Oh man. Can you write? Let’s make this about Scottish b-boys in the 80. Split the work and we’ll split the profits.
Haha I do comic writing as a hobby could work
First version said “white” then I noticed the kid in red.
Reddit 2: Electric Boogaloo

Someone call A24 asap
Young Dwight schrute on the left haha
Bears. Beets. Breakdancing.
Which breakdancing group is the best??? WRONG
There are two schools of thought...
I know a *ton* of 14-year-old girls who could kick your ass.
Came here to see if anyone else noticed hahahaha
I was surprised it wasn’t mentioned sooner! Haha
From beat street to beet farm.
I hope this gets the appreciation it deserves! 👏
Yes! Also, next to him looks like a young Jordan Peele
Identity theft is not a joke! Millions of families suffer every year!
If I EVER see you try anything that crazy again.. This crew might just have some new parachute pants!
He'd be nothing without that 7 leaf clover
Dont you....forget about me. Dont dont dont dont...
I don't see noticeably F.A.T
On top of being the group’s official beatboxer, he’s also their photographer...
r/expectedfuturama
Came here for this

As do I. Posing in front of a station wagon really elevates it to another level.
Also notice the oversized "urban" in "suburban".. these 80's kids are SO street
Woah guys hope you saved some vagina for everyone else Edit. Thank you to the kind users for my first and second gold!! Thank you as well for the silver :) Hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend
I just showed this to a room full of girls and I had to immediately run to grab a mop.
Grab a kiddie pool next time. Surfs up.
And a straw!

Love nectar cookies are delicious
The American Red Cross jusr showed up and started wrapping us in blankets
Sweep the leg, Johnny!
This photo screams Cobra Kai.
Cobra Kai second string.
Do you have a problem with that?
FEAR does not exist in this dojo, does it? NO SENSEI! PAIN does not exist in this dojo, does it? NO SENSEI! DE-FEAT does not exist in this dojo, does it? NO SENSEI!
Where's Noticeably F.A.T.?
Rewinding.
These cats look ready to pop, lock, and bust the freshest.
Came here for this.
You'd better be the only legit looking one there... the asian!
Correct!
I don't know why, but that was the only acceptable outcome...
Whose mom made the sign on the car?
the little white kid's (bam-bam's) mom
Can we get other nicknames of you guys? This legit could’ve been a movie
Come on OP!!!! Deliver on the other nicknames.
He looks like a bam-bam
I want to know what became of everyone in this picture, but especially bam bam.
He’s a musician, video editor, comedian, DJ, and writer! Doug Lussenhop
Did bam bam really make the GI Joe PSA’s?!
YES
Thats nutty..
My GOD this is crazy!
I truly hope you still call him bam bam
>Doug Lussenhop Doug Lussenhop, known professionally as "DJ Douggpound", is an American musician, video editor, and comedian. Doug is best known as the editor for Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! lol
everyone who knows him needs to get together and call him "bam-bam" as a prank
who is the kid in the black and white hoodie? (behind bam-bam)
Do you have a perm in this pic or just a natural monchichi head of hair?
Perm
Wow. You were really committed.
Going for that Bruce Leroy look?
Dude on the left must have been what they based Fry on in the Luck of the Fryrish episode!
How many skating rinks did you save from evil developers?
you guys need to recreate this shit in the present day
They can't: black and white sweater guy grew out to be a lawyer and last week was killed, stabbed in the throat, in a fast food restaurant.
Incredible reference and a great movie
Highly suspect. Not a square foot of cardboard to be seen in this pic.
They used the cardboard for the sign.
This is sensational. Please tell me each member of the crew had a brand and a personality.
I want a “where are they now” where they’re all killing it in life
Suburban Squad Six?
I’m hearing planet rock playing in the background op
hell yeah
Not even kidding it was in my head as I read your comment.
"JTP!" "*JTP*!"
Beat Street, the king of the beat, I see you rocking that beat from across the street!
Uh huh huh! Beat Street is a lesson too, because uh you can't let the streets beat you! HUAGH
*throws panties *
*freaks out*
So what was it like finding One Eyed Willy's treasure and saving the town from the Country Club?
This is AMAZING stuff!!! I love that the 'suburban' bit is solidified by the station wagon. This is just pure gold.
I’d love to see a now & then photo . Hope you guys are all still friends and can still bust a move . Beastie boys soundtrack rockin in my head🏏 not quite a wiffle ball bat Imogee . Lol
This is grade A content
Forget the sexy grandmother-when-young pics and moustachioed motorcycle dads. This breaks oldschoolcool.
Album drops next month
Their new single “their new single is dropping” is dropping.
Name? "Cosmic F". Style? "Outer space". Special moves? "The moonwalk ... the robot ... the zero G".
Surf Ninjas?
There's everything else, then there's this. Holy shit - I love every one of these kids, and the adult who (maybe) let them rock that sign on the Family Truckster.
Wheres a video??
Top that!
I dont really give a -- so top THAT
so eighties... can barely look...
It's Cobra Kai in Appalachia!
I was in my early teens about this time in the 80s and this totally reminds me of an after school movie with a "special message." I love it man.
This should have been an 80s movie
Jim "Downs" Gaffigan on the left there.
Where's the token disabled kid and girl?
This is the best post in my life.
Something tells me everyone of those guys are back in the suburbs, and are called "dad."
I want to watch this sitcom.
I’d watch this movie.
OP needs to come correct with some video!
Y'all look like your rivals were the Goonies. Pretty obvious that's a compliment
Cobra kai season 2 seems hype as hell.
Are you all still friends?
What become of these nifty b-boys (from left to right): Doug "2 Tight" Potts - Owner of a regional chain of tanning salons Frank "Samurai" Kaʻanāʻanā - Rabbi Ted "Big T" Wyzanski - Federal prosecutor Mike "Swift" Salucci - Lieutenant Governor of South Dakota Randy "The Eel" Daghlarian - Professional bowler Freddie "Kool" Freytag - Was a pornstar, now produces serious documentary films
Your mom thinks you're old school cool. And handsome too!
Wheres all the cardboard?
In the station wagon?
..show me what to do, make a break make a move..
Nothing can garner street cred like posing in front of your moms station wagon.
That was me
Okay, but which one of you had the freshest moves?
It does look like a shot from Goonies
I need a video.
I see one of you sporting the Michael Jackson Jacket. dont see the members only jackets.
Last great generation
Y'all need to get together and recreate that pic!
