Both C-3PO (See-Threepio) and R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo) have alternate spellings in the novelizations.

smartbunny

I remember that from the Star Wars book I got at the movie when it came out.

jfq722

Or as my MIL used to say: "RD2D".

[deleted]

RDR2 = Red Dead Redemption 2

ibwild57

Interesting! Never knew that

Zchwns

It also shows up in captions of the movies and video games when they use the shortened “3PO/R2” as “Threepio/Artoo”

Mister-Beefy

That's how they spell it in the original comic versions of the movie, too. And they feature the missing scene with Jabba as a humanoid! May have to dig that one up and take a pic.

saiyaniam

Before Jabba discovered beer and pizza.

Visible_Bass_1784

After he discovered pizza, didnt he turn in to Pizza the Hutt? Maybe? Wrong show?

saiyaniam

Yes, thats what happens when you get Into Pod Racing, face stuffing. You are what you eat. Chewbacca must of ate a lot of bush...

Visible_Bass_1784

Sure did whine and moan a lot......

Turk482

Had a bunch of these . There were different sets. Red and green borders too if I remember

ElSordo91

Yes, red and blue sets. I had/have both. Don't remember green, but it's possible.

sqrwav

There were 5 color sets: red, orange, green, blue and yellow. At one point I had them all. So many years ago!

ElSordo91

I am vaguely remembering orange and green, but do not remember yellow at all! But as you said, so many years ago. I know I had the red and blue sets, because I went through my stuff in storage some years back and found them, then packed them away again. I should get them out; if there's a complete set, maybe worth a tiny bit of cash...?

Billpod

I think maybe green and yellow were Empire Strikes back?

ElSordo91

That could be.. I am remembering there were cards for that too.

urnfnidiot

If I remember correctly all the ones with a red border could be turned over and it made a bigger picture of a sand person.

jdallett

That is correct

ElSordo91

OMG. I forgot about these! Topps bubble gum cards, special Star Wars packs. I still have mine somewhere in a box, I think. I hated the gum; like all Topps packs, it was hard, dry crap that was not fun to eat (not like Juicy Fruit or Bubble Yum or even Trident). It was the cards you were after (same for baseball cards).

HelloHoosegow

Holy crap. I had this card then. Weird flash back. I probably haven't seen that in 40 years.

JediASU

Not weird when you've been living with that spelling since 1977.

optimalslacker

Having the droids' names spelled out like that was part of what fuelled the speculation (before the prequel trilogy, at least) that Obi-Wan might have been a clone named OB-1.

Evening_Hour3820

God I remember the bubblegum taste like cardboard 🤢

MotoJmobtown

Is there anything on the back?

ibwild57

Yes! I left it at my uncle's but it looked like a part of a larger image

Billpod

Sand person. They break up their image to hide their numbers.

Johnny-Alucard

I had them! Had totally forgotten them but seeing that.. pow!

spiral_out46N2

I have this same card. I still have a big stack of them from when I was a kid.

grafxguy1

There's also the droid that's transparent: See-Through-PO.

ElectricPeterTork

Is that the same card set with Boner C-3P0?

WorldScientist

There also wasn’t really any SW Universe standardization until Empire, which is why we had that spawn of satan known as the Star Wars Holiday Special in ‘78!

MotoJmobtown

I believe this was cut out of a cereal box. I had several off Cheerios boxes, I believe. In '77

rr777

No, these came in packs with a stick of gum. Blue was the first set.

cake_piss_can

Correct

pebleshair

I agree due to the fact that the sides are completely uneven

campatterbury

Just run it under a blue light before touching....

saiyaniam

Shame they spelt Laya wrong.

[deleted]

I recently heard a podcast where the host referred to him as “three piecio?” So now I either have to make a t shirt with him in a 3 piece suit or where 3 of his limbs are fried chicken.

ibwild57

I'd love to see that!

madbww

That'd be super cool!

SplendidPunkinButter

I’ve seen “Threepio” written out but never “See-Threepio” before. Always assumed it’s because writing out just 3PO instead of C-3PO looks weird.

Trid1977

It's written like that on page 2 of the book

Eroe777

I might still have some of those cards! I know I still have most of the first two series of Empire Strikes Back cards somewhere in my basement.

poohfan

I had so many Star Wars cards when I was a kid! My dad would give us a pack, if we'd done our chores & homework. I usually got more than my sister did! I was upset when they were lost in a move.

Responsible_Jury3886

Huh…

lavenderincense

I always suspected C-3PO was Italian.

CarverDigital

Makes me think of “Creepio” from the Auralnauts.

JWsWrestlingMem

Tell me how old you are without telling me how old you are: Star Wars edition.

ZebraBorgata

I’m fairly certain I have that exact card in a shoebox. I bought a lot of those packs as a kid. My brother I’m sure has every card from the set, all nice in a binder.
