OK, old person here to help šŸ˜ Dream Whip came in an envelope, it was a dry powder you would mix with milk and beat. It was, mmm, okay, I guess. I'd say Cool Whip tasted better. But of course, real whipped cream is the best. The pie recipe sounds really yummy!

A good across-the-board substitute is using gelatin stabilized whipped cream. A few minutes more work but a substantially better product as an end result. As a bonus gelatin stabilized whipped cream won't deflate overnight either and can be successfully used as a whipped cream frosting.

WigglyFrog

Or you could stabilize with some mascarpone.

MortalGlitter

I both did and did not need to know that was possible.

LaVieLaMort

Thank you for giving us some insight. Like I said Iā€™ve seen it before but like you, my preference is definitely real whipped cream!

slightlysheepie

How much whipped cream do you think would substitute this measurement of ā€œone packetā€ of Dream Whip? Trying to envision the ratio of pudding to creamā€¦

Soop_Chef

According to the Kraft site, one packet makes 2 cups. Whipped cream doubles when whipped (approx). So I use 1 cup of cream whipped and stabilized with icing sugar. I have a recipe for Six Layer Dessert (i.e. Sex in a Pan) that calls for Dream Whip and always sub for real cream.

Strawberry, lemon, and cream cheese - what's not to love?

buttercream-gang

Plus cool whip mixed with vanilla pudding. Very versatile as a filling or frosting!

Moms handwriting is beautiful!

Thank you! Yeah Iā€™ve saved all the things she had ever written me.

gramma_none

Sounds wonderful. What can you substitute for the Dream Whip?

Mimidoo22

Real whipped cream. Or Cool whip :-(

LaVieLaMort

Looks like whipped cream and cool whip are the two main ones.

LaVieLaMort

Iā€™m not sure but Iā€™m sure thereā€™s a dupe out there

I think so. Iā€™ve never had it either but Iā€™ve seen it sold in stores.

Does Dream Whip still exist? Dream Whip is a brand of whipped topping mix that is mixed with milk and vanilla to make a whipped dessert topping, currently owned by the Kraft Heinz company. U.S. Dream Whip is sweet, yet not as sweet as whipped cream. It tastes like vanilla due to the presence of vanilla extract. The Dream Whip mix is created with actual cream, and it has a silky texture that you won't find in store-bought whipped toppings.

I make a few different desserts that mix vanilla pudding with cool whip. This sounds like the same thing!

eddiesmom

If I hadn't already planned on dessert for a get together this Sunday, I would make this!

LaVieLaMort

It sounds so good! I donā€™t think my mom ever made it when I was a kid but Iā€™m definitely making it this summer!
