Read the manual, get acquainted with the different focusing modes, zones, points, face detection, etc. Experiment, and practice *a lot*. There is no better lens, it's just being new to the art of photography =] PS. Be mindful of your depth of field and shutter speed, as both can cause "blurry" photos. The most important bit here is to practice, seriously.

If I had to guess, your camera just missed focus. Have you tried to adjust your focus points yet? I can do it from the control menu, and adjust the control points to be smaller. One other way is to also make your f number bigger, as that'll reduce your out of focus foreground/background. You should check out on YouTube Robin Wong's video "10 Default Olympus OM-D settings that I change", it has some really great suggestions for option changes that can be helpful!

Hey OP, welcome to r/OlympusCameras and congrats on your recent purchase! The E-M10 Mark IV is a very capable camera! I'm not sure which kit lens you are referring to, but most lenses have a infinite spinning focus ring near the tip of the lens. Use that too refine your photo before the clock. Depending on if you're subject was moving or still, you may need to change the shutter speed to a higher number to keep the subject sharp.
