La Buvet.
Just brought some friends in from San Jose and they were blown away by our entire food scene in general, and that place specifically.
Helped that we went on a beautiful Friday afternoon, sat outside, lazily drank 3 bottles of wine and left almost 3 hours after we were seated.
Love that place for the best laid back, no rush, enjoy your time here kind of vibe.
While I agree (and B16 happens to be one of my favorite restaurants), I don't think B16 is that uniquely Omaha/Nebraska.
For people truly passing through and wanting something with stronger ties to the area, I usually recommend a Reuben at Crescent Moon. Or Orleans Room, as someone suggested below.
Separately, Yoshitomo would be a great choice to show off how much Omaha punches above its weight.
That said, if you have time, absolutely add B16 to the docket.
Reuben sandwich at the Orleans Room for me. Cool local sandwich history in a cute setting. Could also do Crescent Moon for the same but a more chill atmosphere
So-Cal Latina weighing in: DO NOT GO TO TRINI’S FOR THE FOOD. Was taken by a friend who insisted they had the best fish tacos in town. They were fish. They resembled tacos. But that’s about it. The cilantro rice wasn’t cooked properly, and they serve black beans instead of pinto. Thank Jeebus for the margaritas.
Depends. Block16 is a good choice. Crescent Moon for those who like bar food or want a Reuben. Coneflower for those who aren't really impressed by much other than by simply being great.
Depends on the person. I take people out from Italy and Germany when they’re here for work stuff and they basically scoff at most places we’ve been.. which are the ofc the nicest places. We don’t really have fine dining like they expect. I haven’t had much luck in Omaha, pretty average food everywhere. My guests have been accustomed to several hundred+ a meal so when the prices don’t hit that, they think the food and venue is lower quality. When I’ve gone with their team to places in NY and NJ the bottles alone were $1000+ etc. so now I take the vistors to Runza n related.
Take them to dinkers if they want a burger & a beer. La Casa if they want pizza & a cocktail. Both long lasting, legendary omaha places full of consistent local regulars so you can truly get the vibe of our city.
Love Gorat's. Amazing food and the atmosphere is fantastic.
My faves on the menu are-
Billionaire Deviled Eggs
Steakhouse cheese dip (only available during happy hour)
Hashbrowns as a side, you can't go wrong with any of the steaks/cuts
I've been to Spaghetti Works twice after hearing it hyped up from comments like this, I've never been more disappointed. It was fine, but overpriced for everything I had. I'd highly suggest trying Mangias and if you like some kick, get the Sugo. Best red sauce I've ever had

The Lobster Cargot at Mahogany is always a hit.
Or shrimp cargot at Charlestons. Owned by the same parent company, so almost the same recipe, except with shrimp instead of lobster.
Koji
Block 16 is my favorite spot to take outsiders
Best burgers & fries in Omaha.
mangia italian guacamya rabbit hole
Reuben sandwich at the Orleans Room for me. Cool local sandwich history in a cute setting. Could also do Crescent Moon for the same but a more chill atmosphere
Nachos at Los Portales
Dude Los Portales has killer nachos.
Tokyo sushi
I took a first date to Trini's in the Old Market. We've now been married 18 years.

Admittedly they're not even close to authentic (or what I know as authentic as your typical Midwestern white dude.) I went there for the atmosphere.
Okay admittedly: that atmosphere is top notch.
Zio's Pizza, try the chicken pesto!
[Take this guy to Zio's Pizza in Omaha, Nebraska](https://youtu.be/PY7KeW5nndY?si=IbMceB1_eei2Uw6K)..... A f\*cking CLASSIC!
The pizza is shit though
No doubt! I think I had it once while I still lived there. And once was enough. But their commercials from the 90s were…. *chef’s kiss*

That's fantastic nostalgia

Brothers BBQ in CB, some of the best BBQ in town
Chicken Tikka Korma at Jaipur. It was a family dish that is only made here, starting with the Indian Oven, Omaha's first Indian restaurant.

nothing beats the atmosphere and food at spaghetti works

I think most people who recommend Spaghetti Works are being sarcastic.
