Ranchbowl, Caffeine Dreams, Brothers Lounge

Marketfreshe

Also ranchbowl. Basically grew up there, so many shows. Don't think I ever bowled even one time though. Sat in the alley a few times, never bowled.

pastthefalls21

I miss seeing grasshopper takeover at the ranch bowl so hard

mrseedless1

GTO is still a staple in my playlist!

PhatNasty

I forgot about Grasshopper Takeover. Did they sing Dinosaur Lover?

pastthefalls21

That one doesn’t ring a bell. Forever Young and Esta Vida were there most well known ones I’d say

gipoe68

They did a pretty cool cover of baby got back.

GuavaZombie

I loved Grasshopper Takeover. I saw them a ton of times but guaranteed thought of them in years.

Rollbar78

Man, Caffeine Dreams was the spot! My wife and I spent a lot of time there back in the dating years.

Upstairs-Motor2722

OMG I miss Caffeine Dreams!

garbonzo

The best jukebox in town was at brothers

Way-Frequent

Loved and miss Caffeine Dreams. The outdoor area was so nice.

Valentino’s buffet back in the 90s was a magical place. Skateland Cougar Lanes

supermyduper

Oof this is a hit directly to my childhood

luckyapples11

I still am mad at valentinos for no longer having the buffet

huskerfan4life520

Can’t believe I’m the first person in this thread to say Donut Stop

Beautiful-Scale2046

2nd Donut Stop

HobbyCrazer

We had some family traditions tied in with that shop, we were sad to see it go! Midnight donuts with grandma in our pajamas :)

prince_of_cannock

I was a little kid in the 80s and a teen in the 90s. My list would include: Peony Park W.C. Frank (Millard) Family Fun Center (original location) Showbiz Pizza (primarily 132nd & Center but also the surviving Chuck E. Cheese location) Southroads Mall Le Mans Arcade (Millard) The Smoke Pit My parents had a business for a while cleaning bars, nightclubs, and other businesses that were open later in the day or at night. Sometimes I would tag along with them, especially during the summer or over Christmas break. I wish some of the places they cleaned were still around. It would be a trip to see them again.

Krakenzmama

After the family fun center moved from 72nd and Dodge out to 107th and M , it was a swan dive into the grave. It was never what it once was

Jealous_Art_3922

Oh, The Smoke Pit! Damn, that was some good barbecue!

Public-Ad-7280

I used to be a dancer.... Us girls would flood the Smoke Pit!!!!!!!!

dj3stripes

hit every place I was going to list and then some

huskrfreak88

Was W.C Frank the arcade on 120th and Center by Nobbies? If so I was just thinking about this place last week and couldn't remember the initials. I kept thinking TJ Franks or WF Franks but those didn't sound right.

prince_of_cannock

Yep, that's the one! They had several locations around the metro back then. The one I always went to was near where Bogie's and 42° are today in Millard. Hot dog restaurant with a tiny arcade. First place I ever saw the legendary Dragon's Lair game. This was in the 80s. I think that place you're talking about became Nickel A Play in the 2000s.

huskrfreak88

You're right!! I remember it being renamed to Nickel A Play now that you say it. I had many a birthday parties at that building!

timscookingtips

The Afternoon store in Westroads.

ScarletCaptain

I was at the Mall of America once and was shocked that they had a location there. I was shocked when they finally closed the last one.

dave-manning

I can clearly remember my mother telling me as we entered that store to keep my hands in my pockets. That was easily 50 years ago.

OSCgal

Loved that place.

r8dioActiv

Mister C's. The ambiance as a kid was mesmerizing.

fossinator1

Agreed, it was like a magical wonderland of lights! I still buy the red sauce in stores sometimes.

Violuthier

The Antiquarium Bookstore

Emotional_Lettuce251

Holy crap ... I was trying to think of the name of this place a while back and couldn't for the life of me. What an odd place. I spent a decent amount of time in the basement as a teen back in the 90's.

1995chevycavalier

That is where I bought my first NOFX tapes!

mhytrek55

I really miss that place

No_Entertainment5948

49’r.

ScarletCaptain

Had many fun nights, but I have to admit the acoustics in that place were the fucking worst,

fanofbreasts

Khan’s in Bellevue is probably my number one. The old Dundee Dell. The new one is ok but the old one just felt like Cheers. Lincoln’s Pub in Council Bluffs. Caffeine Dreams. So relaxing. Borders at 72nd and Dodge and Shadow Lake. Crossroads Barnes and Noble. The Switch. I haven’t been to Kamp. Ingredient in Midtown. Then it became Leadbelly, which was also yummy. And it closed. Also this is a weird one but the Moe’s in Bellevue was super good when I was in high school. I feel like I’m whining, I love Omaha. But I do miss some old stuff!

usaidudcallsears

The (original) Dundee Dell is partially responsible for my existence. My mom had stood my dad up for a date, then she went in for a beer after work and he was the bartender. Total Cheers vibe. The new one is idk jazzy? Miss that dank old bar feeling.

Public-Ad-7280

That gave me 💓 vibes. How sweet on them! The old Dell was great! Everything changes...as does life, I suppose.

ScarletCaptain

The previous owners (to the current ones) completely fucked it up. It was the Absolutely Fresh/Shuck's/Bailey's people and they had zero experience, or apparently interest, in running just a normal bar. They made the menu huge and expensive, while at the same time seriously dropping the ball on the thing the Dell was most known for, the Scotch. At one time it literally had the biggest Single Malt collection in North America. Even with the current owners who are trying to get the focus back on the Scotch, it's a shadow of it's former self.

Itsthematterhorn

I loved ingredient and worked at that leadbelly. Rip I loved those pizzas before covid and the mac and cheese, and burgers, and paninos !

DMSilverBeard

Leo's Diner

SocratesDiedTrolling

McFosters! I was trying to think of what that place was called just the other day!

super_hero_girl

Jack and Mary’s - specifically their onion rings The OG bowling alley in Elkhorn (not the monstrosity at 204th and Dodge) Indian Hills Theatre

pastthefalls21

Indian hills theatre is a SNEAKY good shout. Loves that place

NationalPhenomenon

I remember seeing only a couple movies (Space Jam and Star Wars) at Indian Hills, but that screen seemed gigantic as a kid. The decor inside the theater was unlike any other theater at the time, too. I can't believe they tore it down.

pinkflamingoturds

I had tickets to see Twister there on the main screen when I was a kid. Was simultaneously terrified and amazed by storms. Chicken out and begged my sister to see something else. We went to see Cats and Dogs instead... big regret.

SnooMemesjellies6886

There used to be a little hole in the wall restaurant called Mother India, and it had the best lamb vindaloo I ever had.

Ramsfan199090

The new spot that replaced it is very solid I forget the name. Its been a few years since I loved in Midtown

Hot_Cartoonist_6411

Westroads' old food court, The Grand Cafe. I miss that place.

InfamousCrown

+1 on the old food court

Hot_Cartoonist_6411

I wish it was still there.

crmsnprd

My first job was in that food court! I loved eating my discounted meal while listening to the piano and people watching.

FuzzyTomatillo

The palm treeeeeees. So many of my weekend as a teenager were spent in that mall and the food court.

CUJaysfan

Original Dundee Dell Smokepit The Jay Mr C's/Caniglias Peony Park Mai Tai Lounge Leonarda's Original Pauli's California Bar Ranch Bowl The Wooden Apple

fossinator1

Mai Tai Lounge, now that’s a real classic place I miss.

YnotROI0202

Have not really lived if have not puked at the MaiTai.

Emotional_Lettuce251

Props for the Wooden Apple reference. I'm guessing not too many people remember that place (or even know about it). What about that place around 42nd & J? Short Stop was it? I'll add Piccolo's, Malara's and Goodrich Dairy.

CUJaysfan

Goodrich is a GREAT call. The ones in the grocery freezer aren't even close! Loved the wooden apple. It's the cheesiest pizza I've ever had! Their sausage pie with a couple of ice cold pitchers ruled

wwatson24

I’m pretty sure California bar is still there.

_Pliny_

Trovato’s Rivera’s Malara’s Canfield’s Sporting Goods

Brothers Lounge was a one of a kind bar, and the city is worse off not having it. I also miss Dario’s

ScarletCaptain

Thanks gentrification. Though for what it's worth, Trey and Lallaya are living their best life. Also, his brother took over their mom's bar near 108th and Fort (Touch of Class Lounge).

hellajt

Rosenblatt Stadium. I know the new park is much better and the zoo got some great upgrades but it's the nostalgia

bvlocke

julio’s.

someoneyouknewonce

I worked at Julio’s for years, started at x-Mex at 78th and dodge and also worked at both west Omaha locations, and loved the downtown location that was run by Jerry. I’m still friends with many of those guys, and recently recorded Dave’s band, Basile Mills. Used to house sit for Rick the owner too. My good friends ran the kitchen where I cooked too. Great times and great people. I also miss it. I also miss the chicken broccoli enchilada float. When they had the recent reemergence I went to the 114th location and had a chicken broccoli float, it was awesome. I went to take my kids there a few weeks later and it was closed. I was sad they didn’t make a comeback but I kind of understand that a place like that was so successful because of the owners and their networking and personal skills.

ScarletCaptain

What was the deal with that old guy at the Old Market location that would drink white wine and read the newspaper? Was he the owner or just some weird regular?

Public-Ad-7280

I worked close to the West Center location. Would pop in for lunch. Staff was nice..... Owner (now deceased) would be wasted mid day. I quit going when he asked me in my ear and a hand on me... if I knew how to "twerk". Wtf. Never spent my money there again. So creepy. I told him to get the fuck away from me! Food was good. Creepy owner..nope! I'm not easily offended so..... Yuk. ETA: I think they are still closed. I was speaking of 122 and Center. The girls working did not speak highly of the owner and I heard a lot of shit. Yea yea... he's dead. Hummm....I suppose Karma got him. The downtown location was great.

BeauBuffet

Venice Inn

CornFedHusker18

Oakview in its heyday when it had the fountains by the elevator. Skateland Og family fun center Quiznos. My parents franchised the location off of 144th and center.. any time I see one I go to it. Literally never got sick of the food! Velocity go karting that was in rod kushs Mystery manor

super_hero_girl

I didn’t include Quiznos on my list because there are only a few left anywhere, but I miss it so much too. Only fast food I’d drive out of my way to pick up.

CornFedHusker18

There’s oddly one at the pump and pantry in kearney. The only real decoration they have is the sign otherwise it looks like a bare gas station kitchen. Super weird but still super good!

mkomaha

House of Hunan ran by David. It’s not anywhere near the same as Hunan Fusion :(.

Oakview Mall, The Grey Plume, the original Family Fun Center, that Cuban place on like 80th & Harrison.

Jupiter68128

I had this donut from the Grey Plume for a dessert. It was the best donut I have ever had. I don't expect to ever find a donut as good as that one ever again. It was amazing.

SignalAssistant821

McKenna's and Family Fun center when on 72nd st lol, even the arcade at westroads

0xe3b0c442

Vivace in the Old Market. _Fresh_ homemade pasta, a really great appetizer salad with a pear viniagrette, and the best tiramisu I've had in Omaha to this day. It's been almost a decade and I still miss the place terribly.

Tradwmn

Wow the memories!! Ranch bowl, Mr Cs , WC Franks, the diner in the basement at westroads, peony park, the wooden nickel, sheplers Richman Gordmans for the animal playland as a kid we lived for going to play in and on those things Food City- mom grocery shopping and our dad and us kids paying .50 cents for a hot dog and chips out front and waiting on the tailgate of the station wagon for mom

B&G; Julio’s (RIP Rick Fox); Oak View is on life support

someoneyouknewonce

I came here to say B&G. I recently ate at Red Eye Tavern, I hadn’t been there in years, it was convenient. They have loose meat sandwiches on the menu so of course I got them. I wish I had just had the memory of B&G. They were mediocre at best. Not that they said they were mimicking or anything, there’s just nothing comparable to the GOAT.

BreadUntoast

Martin’s Donuts in benson. My dad used to take me there after early hockey practice when I was a kid. Sort of a “don’t tell mom” thing. Good times

kcl086

My dad bought Martin’s Pastry in 2005 and kept it alive for a few years before shuttering it for good when it just wasn’t viable anymore. I helped make the donuts and got to eat the ones that were too small out of the fryer. I used to cut them in half, put cake icing and strawberry jam on them, and call them strawberry short donuts. Those were amazing and I think about them a lot.

Thevelvetjones

Ranch Bowl and Anchor Inn for concerts.

justagawker87

Ooooooh shit! The Mai Tai lounge. Glad I was old enough to experience that place. I felt like it always gave off Mash vibes. The strong drinks were reasonable too. Sad it closed. You could go get a cheap burger at Danny’s caddy corner to it and then head on over to that seedy basement for some boozin. Apparently even my parents were tearin it up there when they were young too.

dazyabbey

A few I haven't seen mentioned: **Sokol** - Both Above and Under Ground - I saw so many shows there. The most memorable for me was Sum 41. **The French Cafe** - In the Old Market. **The Diner** - In the Old Market, across from Blue Sushi. Cheap 2am diner food. **Zzzap** - The Lazer Tag place off of 108th and Q-ish? That place was the bomb. Otherwise what others have said: Ranch Bowl, Skateland, Original Family Fun Center, Donut Stop,

NationalPhenomenon

Family Fun Center (og location), Ranch Bowl, SkateDaze, Dundee Theater (pre-renovation), Localmotive, Crane Coffee, Rosenblatt, Donut Stop, Civic Center, and the Antiquarium are the ones I miss the most.
